Rebecca woke up the next morning to find her mom in her room, tidying up her dressing table. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Her mom’s gaze moved to her as the sheets ruffled.
“Mom?” Rebecca called, rubbing her eye slowly.
“Oops. Hey..did I wake you up? I thought I was quiet enough” she said with a placating grin.
“You didn’t. What’re you doing?”
“Tidying up your room. It was a little untidy” she said.
“Okay,” Rebecca said, rolling the duvet off her body. “Can you tidy my bed too while you’re at it, please” she said, giving her mom a pleading eye.
“I need to get ready for school” she added. Standing up and slipping her feet into their wears.
“Oh..I was thinking you might want to take the day off from school” she said.
“No. Why would I do that?” She said, giving her mom a questioning look. “Is it dad?” She added and her mom nodded slowly.
“I told you, I’m fine. It was my fault anyways, I made him angry. It’s been quite a while since he got so furious at me, so I perfectly understand his action and we both know he’s right. I slacked pretty much off and to someone new?, tch!
I’ll make it up to him, I have to. It was a promise and skipping school won’t fulfill it. To be honest, I feel very mad at myself too” Rebecca said, releasing a brief hysterical laugh.
“Hey, you tried your best-
“But it’s not good enough. I need to focus fully on my school works now, at least until dad calms down. I’ll never be myself until I get it right!” Becca smiled at her mom who lopsidedly returned it and dashed off to the bathroom..
“Mom?” Rebecca called from the bathroom when the shower began running.
“Yes honey?” She answered.
“My shoes; will you please clean them for me, I totally forgot-
“Did that already!” Her mom yelled back, interrupting her. “I changed your socks too!” She added. Becca sighed in relief, she was just about inquiring that.
“Double thanks!” She yelled and Tess giggled, shaking her head lovingly.

Jeremy got to school, getting to class he found his seatmate on her chair and the bustles in class as some student struggled with their unfinished assignment while some stayed unbothered.
Jeremy walked to his seat, brought out his note and walked to the desk where the other submitted notes were. His gaze subconsciously found the previous book submitted to be Rebecca’s, he placed his on hers and returned to his seat.

Class started after an hour and their homeroom teacher’s address.
“Jeremy Harris!”
Jeremy stood up and picked his notebook from the teacher at her stand, a smile on his face at his score, while he walked to his seat.
On impulse, his gaze shifted to Rebecca and her brows were raised while she frowned at him. She looked away after meeting his gaze and stood up to pick hers
The teacher rounded up with sharing the notes.
“Apart from a few obnoxious and un-serious student,” she started, eyeing the last row seaters and they grumbled mindlessly. “you all did well, yet I must not forget to commend the best,”
Unlikely, the class didn’t call out Rebecca as usual and she felt a stab at her chest, at that.
“Jeremy Harris and Rebecca McCoy. It was a tie between those two and then Jess, Luke, Alicia and some others.
It was obvious, everyone did their best and I’m glad, still I hope to see more of this in your exam” She added.
“Yes ma’am!” The class chorused.
Rebecca gruffly put her book into her bag.. her gaze dart to him, her face wearing a frown.
A tie?!
Who the heck is he?
Jeremy noticed her stare on him, he could see the pitchfork she carried with it; hoping to stab him.
He sighed softly and pretended not to notice it, his gaze ahead.
..
The day went by with few more subjects and then it was lunch break, Jeremy walked to the cafeteria with Harrison who came to meet him.
“Did you see how McCoy stared at you in class? If looks could kill, you’d definitely be dead” Harrison said.
Jeremy sighed slowly. “I did and yeah, I don’t care anymore. I’m starting to get irritated by that attitude of hers” Jeremy said.
“Everyone is!” Harrison chuckled.
They both got their meals and picked seats.
“And here she comes” Harrison scoffed, staring ahead and at the cafeteria’s entrance.
Jeremy followed his gaze and as expected found Rebecca walk into the cafeteria.
“Such a show off!” Alicia joined their table, huffing as she stared at Becca.
“Yeah, we all see her colorful socks!” Brianna added as she joined the crew.
“It’s not even that pretty!” Fiona added, rolling her eyes. “Hey J!” She smiled at him, adjusting the chair.
“Hey!” Jeremy replied, staring at the companies.
He faced his meal and wasK about grabbing the burger when Alicia took it, taking a bite from it.
“Thanks!” She said.
“Hey! I’ve got two, you could’ve just taken mine!” Harrison protested and Alicia gave him a frown.
“Jeremy’s looked tastier” She said, giving Jeremy a smile. He sighed and picked a smoothie from his tray.
“Who would’ve thought Becca could be so easy to top in our class?” Fiona added, ins**ting a straw into a juice box. “Jeremy hasn’t spend up to a week here and he has beaten her TWICE!” she added, emphasizing on the last word.
“Yeah.. yet she acts like a god. She’s not even that smart!” Brianna added.
“And why are you both surprised about that? I topped her in a test! You should already that she’s not that smart!” Alicia put in.
“But your score went a little down today” Brianna told Alicia.
“Yeah, thanks to someone!” She said, giving Jeremy a look.
“Wait..me? How’s that my fault” He asked.
“I video-called you yesterday but you wouldn’t pick my calls after you promised me you would!”
“I didn’t promise you and I explained to you why I couldn’t answer. Yeah, I know it was impromptu but it was urgent for me too” he said.
“At least you should’ve called back. My score went down because you didn’t” Alicia said and Jeremy frowned.
“Okay, what’s going on right now?” Harrison ch¡pped in before Jeremy could talk. “Alicia video-called you?” He asked.
“Yeah” Jeremy answered.
“You video-called him and you didn’t even answer or return my calls yesterday” Harrison said to her.
“Oh please Harrison, you knew I wouldn’t”
“Ouch!” Harrison feigned hurt.
“Well, how’s it Jeremy’s fault that you score got lesser?” Fiona asked.
“I called him to ask about some questions I didn’t understand and then he stopped taking my calls- look, I don’t want to talk about it anymore!” Alicia said, taking another bite off her burger.
“Calls? You called him more than once?” Harrison asked and Alicia gave him a frown.
“I had to do something, it was urgent and I informed. Yeah, I admit I was wrong, hanging up on your call. and I wanted to call again but it was late and I assumed you might be asleep and didn’t want to disturb” he said.
“Okay, now I’m really curious” Harrison said, giving Jeremy a fishy look.
“Okay, maybe I was asleep truly. Why didn’t you text?” Alicia asked.
“I didn’t think of that” Jeremy said truthfully.
Alicia smiled. “Just give me an apology call later, okay?” she said.
Jeremy was about replying back but kicked against it. He wasn’t in the mood to prolong the issue.
Harrison gave them both a fishy look and slowly lookked away.
~
Class went on after lunch break, they had a free period before school would end. Student moved out of the class to the hallway and Jeremy stood up to return his book and get his backpack ready for closing hours.
He shut his locker and turned to head to class.
“Ouch!” He turned to find a student on the floor, few steps away from where he stood. Obviously, she had fallen and a small blue purse dropped in front of her.
“Hey! Are you okay?” He aksked, squatting to her level.
Becca stared up at him and a smug look curled onto her face.
“Don’t touch me!” She said, pushing her hand off before his palm could reach it.
Jeremy frowned. “I was only trying to help-
“I don’t need help, especially not from you” she cut him off, standing up.
“Seriously,” Jeremy scoffed. “Do you know me from the past or something, was I a bad person to you cos you totally act like it?”
“Know you? Eww!” She frowned, disgusted.
Jeremy scoffed, bewildered at her attitude.
“You should appreciate when someone tries to help you-
“And you should mind your own business, like everyone else!” She retorted.
“Okay to be frank, I think there’s more to your hatred towards me” he said.
“Well, I’m glad you know I hate you and I wish you’d just stop crossing my path and I never get to see you again!” She spat at him angrily before walking away.
Jeremy stood frozen in his s₱0t. He was convinced that she just plainly has a disgusting attitude and he is done talking to her.
He turned to head back to class when he saw her purse still lying on the floor, he bent and picked it up.
He stared at it for a while and almost immediately it got snatched from him.
He turned to see an furious Rebecca staring at him.
“Are you trying to steal from me now? Acting like you wanted to help so you could steal my purse?” She fumed, creating a scene.
“What! I’m not a- why would I even want to steal from you?!” He scoffed, surprised all-over.
Becca laughed hysterically. “You tell me” she said.
“Hey. You dropped your purse and I picked it up. I was going to return it-
“As if!” She scoffed.
“Okay, I can take any other of your shits but not you calling me a thief. You’re mad at me for being first? Well, s-ck on that. Sometimes you should be appreciative for where you are, a lot of people would give a lot to be there! You can’t always be perfect” Jeremy said.
Ignoring the little gathering of students, he pulled closer to her and she moved backward.
“And I once saw that if you’re mean to good people, you get wrinkles and turn to an ugly-looking grandma overnight!” He whispered to her and she gasped, staring at him with a shocked and stale look.
