(The Break-up)

Episode 28

Sophia walked into the hospital building and

went over to the receptionist.

“hi, good morning”, she said to be the nurses

standing there. “please, I’m looking for the ward

of Lily Martins”.

“go over to the straight corridor by your left.

Room 27” one of the nurses replied with a warm

smile after going through a register.

“ok. Thanks”.

Sophia sauntered through the corridor, watching

for room 27. As she walked along, she thought

about why Lilly could had possibly request for

her. She couldn’t wait to find out.

She finally arrived at room 27 and slowly, she got

in.

Luckily for her, Lily was awake and Stacey was

the only one with her at that time.

The moment Lilly saw her, she seemed relived

as her face brightened up with a smile.

“Sophia, I’ve been expecting you”, Lily said

excitedly. She held a small cup of coffee which

she sipped from and placed next to herself on

the bed.

“good morning, Lily. Hi, Stacey”, Sophia greeted.

“hi, ” Stacey replied and turned to Lilly.” guess

I’d have to excuse you guys. Take care “, she

continued and left the room.

” uhm… Lily, how’re you feeling?” Sophia asked,

sitting on a seat close to the bed.

“hm. Should I feel surprised you only cared to

ask about that just now?” lily also asked and

scoffed. “well, as you can see, I’m feeling

better.”

“ok. Uhm… Gwen told me you… ”

“I sent for you”, she cut in, sipping from her cup

of coffee again. “yes. That’s the only reason

you’re here, right? Else, why would Sophia pay

poor Lily a visit at the hospital?” she paused and

sniggered.

“anyway, never mind. I have a gentle soul, you

know? Well, the reason I called you here was to

talk about Steven. There’s something important

you need to know about him; especially about

the reason he had to break up with you”.

She took her cup of coffee and this time around,

starred at it for a long time before sipping from

it. And then, she looked back at Sophia who was

being eaten up by curiosity.

“he’s being blackmailed”, she finally said,

releasing the shock on Sophia’s face.

“what?” Sophia shrieked. “blackmailed? What’re

you talking about?”

“he’s being blackmailed by Michelle. I don’t know

exactly how, but he is. And I’m suspecting it has

to do with the day you paid him a visit at home.”

Sophia was beginning to feel muddled.

Steven was forced to break up with her? But

how?

“listen to me, Sophia. I didn’t just tell you this to

entertain you, but I told you so you could do

something about it. Michelle doesn’t deserve

Steven and I want you to take him back. You

need to fight for him, Sophia.” Lily said.

Sophia didn’t know what else to say. She didn’t

know if she were to thank Lily or get mad at her.

She was having a mixed feelings of anger and

confusion.

She took her bag and hurried out of the hospital.

She dialled Steven’s number and it went through.

It was a good thing she hadn’t deleted it.

The call was about coming to an end before he

picked up.

“Sophia?” Steven called on the phone. He

sounded surprised.

“Steven, we need to talk. Now!” she replied.

They fixed a location which was close to

Sophia’s apartment and in less than thirty

minutes, they were both standing in front of each

other.

Curiosity and surprise was large writ on Steven’s

face as he plundered over Sophia requesting to

meet with him.

She had sounded pretty urgent and important.

Sophia, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to have

that conversation with him.

She really needed to know the truth.

“Sophia, is there a problem?” Steven asked.

Sophia stood in front of him and Steven could

notice her almost whimpering.

“why didn’t you tell me, Steven?” she finally said,

tearfully.

“why didn’t you tell me the truth?”

“what truth?”

‘the truth behind the reason you broke up with

me!”

There was shock on Steven’s face.

“B…”

“don’t even lie to me, Steven!” she cut in. “Oh,

my God! I can’t believe Michelle had you break

up with me and you couldn’t tell me about it.

Why did you, Steven? Why?”

There was a dimuniting boldness on Steven. He

couldn’t think of any other thing to defend

himself.

He became weak and plunked himself on a

pavement nearby and then, he reflected his mind

back to the past, just a few weeks ago; when it

all happened.

<<>>Back to Present>>>

Sophia was already in tears by the time Steven

had finished his narration.

She felt so angry and depressed.

“So,” he said. “I’m sorry, Sophia for the pains

I’ve put you through. It was only for the better.”

“but Steven, there was no need for that. You

should’ve confided in me”.

“seriously?” he scoffed. “tell me you would’ve

stayed away if I had told you about it”.

“I would’ve fought for you!”

“fought? There’s nothing to be fought about.

Michelle still has the photos and…”

“I don’t care about the photos, Steven! You’re all

I care about. Michelle can go to hell with the

photos”.

“what’re you saying? Do you want her to carry

out her threats?”

“I don’t care!”

“well, you should!”

There was a pause.

I’m sorry,, Sophia. But we have to stay this way.

Trust me, it doesn’t hurt you more badly than it

hurts me, but it’s the best we have to do. We

have to stay away from each other”, Steven said.

Sophia threw her hands over his nape and

embraced him.

“please Steven, don’t say that. I’m tired of

staying away. I want to be with you, Steven.

Please!”

Steven withdrew her hands from his shoulders.

“please, don’t make this more difficult than it

already is. I… I have to go”.

“don’t you dare leave me, Steven”, she cried.

“don’t you dare leave me. Please!”

Steven forcefully left her and tried walking away.

“how am I sure you’re doing this because

Michelle’s forcing you to do it, or because you

really want to?”

Steven stopped, but didn’t turn around.

“I’m sorry”, he muttered and left.

Episode 29

Michelle was sitting by the pool, playing with her

legs in the water. Patricia was the one swimming

in the water while Michelle just sat down and

watched.

The pool was in an hotel close to the school and

Michelle always enjoyed spending most of her

free time there, especially when the weather was

hot.

She was jisting and natterimg with Patricia, but

not until Sophia showed up with an angry look.

“Sophia, are you…”

Before Michelle could say a word, Sophia had

given her a hærd slap and pushed her into the

pool.
She also jumped into the pool with her and

continued beating her up. Patricia couldn’t even

interfere.

Sophia held Michelle by the hair and stucked her

hair into the water, as if trying to drown her.

Patricia finally interfered and pushed Sophia

away to save her friend from drowning and

Sophia also threw a slap at her face.

It was the presence of some few students and

Oliver who happened to be around that separated

the angry ladies.

Oliver aided in bringing Sophia out of the pool

while Michelle and Patricia were helped out by

some of the students.

“how dare you, Sophia? How dare you?” Patricia

shouted at her, pointing an angry finger.

Michelle was still coughing up water and Oliver

was just the only one holding Sophia back from

resuming the fight.

“drowning isn’t enough for both of you!” Sophia

shrieked. “you deserve to die horribly. You know

what, Michelle? Why don’t you just let Steven

chose between both of us instead of

blackmailing him? Or, are you scared he’s never

going to chose you because of how ugly you and

your personality are? You’re such a demon”, she

conclude angrily and walked away while Oliver

followed her behind.

“oh, my God! I can’t believe Steven was being

blackmailed by Michelle”, Treasure said as she

gave a towel to Sophia.

Oliver was also there with them.

“I wish you had ended up drowning her to death.

That would’ve served her best”, Treasure

continued.

“Sophia,” Oliver called. He had been really quiet.

“I think you need to do as Steven said and stay

away from him for now.”

“but, I can’t!” Sophia replied. “I love Steven and I

can’t let that bitch just take him away.”

Oliver bent his head in silence for a while.

“excuse me”, he said and left.

“what a glorious day!” Lily said as she walked

into the school building, being accompanied by

her three companions as usual.

“it feels so good to be back In dfy”.

They walked into a lecture hall which was scanty

and found a place to sit.

“welcome back, Lily. We really missed you”,

Chinwe said to her.

“Oh, dearies. I missed you more!” she replied and

giggled.

“So,” she continued. “what’s new? Has Steven

broken up with Michelle yet?”

“absolutely not”, replied Stacey. “Steven’s still

with Michelle. But you know, the other day I

overhead Sophia talking to Oliver and Treasure

and I heard her say something about him really

being blackmailed. And I also heard her say

something like… Michelle was in possession of

some nude photos of Steven and Sophia and that

was what she was using to blackmail him.”

“hmm”, Lily sighed and thought for a while.

“do you have any idea where these photos might

be?”

“well, I heard she has some copies of it in her

phone”.

Lily tapped her legs on the floor for a while,

racking her brain.

“I think I’ve given Sophia enough time”, she

replied and turned to Gwen”.

“Gwen, could you carry out a little task for me?”

she asked with a smile.

Episode 30

Michele walked into the eatery with Patricia,

looking sad.

They sat on a table, but Michelle refused placing

any orders.

“Michelle, you really need to brighten up.

Keeping a straight face won’t do you any good.”,

Patricia said as she ordered for a meal.

“how can you tell me to calm down, Pat?

Steven’s been ignoring me for sometime now. He

doesn’t pick my calls and he’s barely even at

home. I haven’t seen him in two days!”

“maybe he just needs to be alone for now . I’m

sure he’ll come around.”

“no, Pat. This isn’t right. Why would Steven keep

treating me this way? What have I ever done to

him?” she asked and sighed.

“I think I need to call him – again.”

She reached for her bag and searched for her

phone, but couldn’t find it.

She almost emptied her bag and searched

thoroughly, but still couldn’t find it.

“Patricia, there’s a problem.” she said to Patricia,

her eyes becoming sore.

“I can’t find my phone”.

“what?”

“good job, Gwen”, Lily said as she collected the

phone from Gwen.

She unlocked it and carefully went through her

gallery and found what she was looking for – the

nude photos.

“but, Lily,” Michelle said. “you should know that

wouldn’t be the only copy Michelle would be

having. I’m sure she’s got duplicates of it.”

“well, I know. And that’s why I came up with this

plan”, replied Lily.

“and what exactly is your plan?”

She paced around for a short time and smiled.

“I’m making the photos go public”.

“what?” her companions shrieked at once.

“B…but Lily, don’t you think that’s too drastic?

You’d be taming the image of Steven and

Sophia. I thought you wanted them back

together?” Chinwe asked in a fuddled manner.

“mind you, dear. I never wanted them back

together. I only wanted Steven away from

Michelle and I’ve given Sophia an opportunity to

do so, but she wasted it!

Think about it; if these photos goes public,

Michelle wouldn’t have a hold on Steven anymore

and Steven would definitely leave her. So, I think

my plan’s just perfect!”

“but, Lily…”

“come on, girls. Stop arguing with me. You

should be encouraging me on this. I promised

never to let Michelle have Steven and that’s

exactly what I’m trying to do. You’ve got my

back, right?” she asked with a smile while her

friends kept starring at her.

Of course, they couldn’t say ‘no’ to her.
