I slowly opened my eyes and my eyelids felt so heavy
Alex bought me a sleeping drug yesterday and I slept off on the couch
I managed to sit up and looked at Alex
He’s sitting on the floor with his head on the couch beside me
He must have fell asleep while looking after me
How can someone be so handsome and caring at the same time
I brought my hand closer to him and moved some strands of hair falling on his face
“If you continue staring at me that way you might just fall in love with me” Alex said and I flinched
“You aren’t asleep?” I asked
“How can I sleep when am sitting on a cold floor” he said as he sat up
“Then you should’ve gone to your room”
“I couldn’t, I was worried about you” he said and I couldn’t help but smile
Gosh
“What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly blushing?” Alex asked
“What?!….. Am…..am not blushing, am really not blushing” I said as I quickly shook my head
“Okay, I’ve heard you, why are you getting so worked up” Alex said
He’s right, why am I getting so worked up
“I’ll go and take a bath and dress up, we have a meeting today and am already behind schedule” he said as he started walking towards his room
“I guess I’ll have to go get ready too” I said as I stood up
“No” Alex quickly turned back and faced me “You’ll stay here, I won’t allow you to go anywhere”
“But…. But what about the meeting? We have to go together”
“Ryan will be at the meeting and there’s no way am letting you closer that son of a bitch so stay here till I come back” he said and walked away
I sighed and sat back on the couch
💊 Alex’s POV 💊
I left the suite to the hotel lounge and met Emma there
“Come on let’s go, I’ll be the one to take you to the venue today” Emma said as she walked out and I followed her
“What are we going to do about Ryan?” Emma asked as she drove
“We?”
“Yeah, I just want to help that’s all” she said
“I feel like you know something about me Emma, something that I don’t know” I said
“Come on, the only thing I know about you is you’re one of the best Neurosurgeon in the world, nothing else” she said and I sighed
“So tell me, what are you going to do with Ryan and the recording you made?” Emma asked
“I really don’t know, I can’t report to the police since we have no evidence so I have no idea Emma, I have no idea on what to do”
“Then you shouldn’t have made that recording in the first place!!” Emma yelled “By making that record, you’ve jeopardize your career and my plans, I won’t ever forgive you Alex if anything goes wrong in my plans cause of your stupidity, I won’t ever forgive you”
“There you go again, saying things that I don’t understand, for God sake what plan are you talking about?!” I asked but she kept silent
She didn’t reply me and just focused on the road till we got to the venue

I showered, wore a casual wear and came to the sitting room to maybe watch a movie
I sat on the couch and then saw Alex’s jacket on the couch
He must’ve left it here when he came back with me last night
I took the jacket and went to his room to return it
I placed the jacket in his wardrobe and I was about leaving when I saw something on the table and I turned back
It’s the drug I saw on his office the other day, Lovenox
I took the drug and opened it, the pills are half gone which means he’s taking them

Lovenox can be taken by patients with heart attack, stroke patients, tremors and patients undergoing any abdominal treatment so what sickness could Alex possibly have that will make him take Lovenox

“Come on Jasmine” I said to myself “What the heck are you thinking, it’s not possible for Doctor Alex to have tremors, if he did then he wouldn’t have been given the medical license”
But what about his hands that do shakes sometimes
I guess it’s just because of stress, it can’t be tremors
But why is he taking Lovenox then?
Could it be that he has some kind of abdominal sickness?

We were done with the seminar and I came out of the hall speaking with Doctor Oliver Gonzalez and some other Neurosurgeon
“Hey” Ryan said as he walked up to us
“Good afternoon doctor Ryan” the other doctors greeted
“You look really happy today, did something happen?” One of the doctors asked
“You are right doctor, something did happen” he said as he brought out the recorder “You guys should totally listen to this”
He was about playing it and I quickly held his hand
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked as I held his hand
“What else? Am trying to play whatever is in this recording device to them” he replied
“We need to talk, follow me” I said as I left to a private corner and he followed me
“Give me back the recorder” I said and he laughed
“I’d be a big fool if I do that” he said
“What do you want? What’s the price for you to give me that recorder?” I asked
“Woah, why are you so serious?” He said and laughed again “There’s no price Alex, am going to send this to the police when we get back to London, but out of my kind-heart, I could do you a favor, resign willingly, quit being a doctor and I’ll not have to release the recording to the public”
“What!”
“Come on, why do you look so surprised, don’t tell me you really thought I was gonna just hand you the recorder. You should be grateful am doing you this favor, at least this way, your reputation will still be intact and you won’t have to go to the police station, so it’s your choice, this Seminar will end tomorrow and by next tomorrow we’ll be back to London, if I dont see it on the news after two days we’ve gone back to London that you’ve quitted your job, then I’ll have not choice but to release the recording, good luck Alex” he said and walked away while I just stood dumbfounded
This can’t be happy
I’ve worked so hard to come to where I am now
While I was still in medical school, hiding my tremors from my medical supervisors was no easy task, sometimes I have to struggle through a surgery with a shaky hand
There was a time I was so stressed up that I got a full tremor arrest, where I almost died
Am not gonna let all those struggles be in vain, am not

Hours passed and I just sat on the couch while my thoughts revolved round Alex
Why’s he taking the Lovenox?
I’ll just have to ask him when he comes back
Moments later, the door opened and Alex walked in but he was not looking happy
“What’s wrong Alex?” I asked as I quickly walked up to him
“It’s nothing, let me be” he said
“What’s wrong? Talk to me Alex”
“I said let me be!!” He yelled and I flinched
He went to his room angrily and I just stood transfixed
Could something have happened during the meeting?
Did Ryan do something again?
“Alex!” I called as I knocked on his door
“Did something happen at the meeting?” I asked but there was no answer
I guess I should just give him sometime alone

Days passed and Alex remained reserved and moody
I tried asking him about Ryan and the recording but he won’t even talk to me
I also tried asking Emma for help but strangely, I looked for her everywhere but I couldn’t find her, it’s like she’s no longer here in the hotel
We’ll be going back to London today
I parked my luggage and went to the sitting room
Alex was already there with his luggage
“Let’s go” he said and walked out and I followed him from behind
We said goodbye to all the other Neurosurgeons who were about to leave too
“It was nice meeting you Doctor Alex, I hope to see you in the future” Doctor Oliver Gonzalez said as he shook Alex’s hand
We entered a cab to the airport and soon we were on the plane back to London
“The director just texted me, we’ll have to go straight to the hospital first before going home cause today is the inauguration if the new deputy director and he wants us to be there” Alex said
“Okay” I replied and he closed his eyes again pretending to be asleep
“Ummm….. Alex, what about Ryan? What’s he gonna do with the recording?” I asked but he remained silent yet again
God, what’s going on?
Why won’t he talk to me?
Hours passed an the plane landed
Alex brought had parked his car at the airport and we got it back and he drove us straight to the hospital
“I guess I have to start calling you Doctor now” I said hoping he would at least reply but as I expected, he just ignored me
We got to the hospital and we walked to the reception
“Jasmine, it’s nice to have you back” Nurse Chloe said as she hugged me
“Welcome back Jasmine” Susan said as she hugged me too
“I’ve seriously missed seeing your pretty face” Andrew said and hugged me
I went to my locker, wore my white coat and followed the others to the hospital conference room
All the doctors in the hospital were present both the senior and junior doctors
The director came to the podium and spoke
“I called this emergency gathering to inform you all that we have a new deputy director, She has almost the same authority that I have and I hope you all will show her that respect. Now I’ll introduce you all to the new deputy director, Miss Emma Griffin” the director introduced and she walked elegantly to the podium
What the hell is Emma doing here?!!
