Carly stood in the middle of the road, thinking which way to go.

She decided to take the one on her right cause anything “right” seems to be good she thought.

She kept walking till she got tired and the wa-ist pain she had added more salt to her injury.

She’s been walking for minutes now and there’s nothing familiar in the road so she turned back.

She went back to the middle where she got stuck and sighed.

Now she already took the right so maybe she could try the left.

She took the left one and after minutes, she turned back cause there was nothing familiar.

She then took the straight road.

She met another two junction and she cussed.

She went to a corner and plumped down on the floor.

She’s not going again.

After resting for minutes, she decided to go back home.

She didn’t even know the time she had wasted trying to find the school.

She finally reached home after walking sluggishly.

She was shocked to see Brett at the dinning, eating.

‘ when did he get back from school ‘ she thought to herself.

She looked at her wrist watch that Kyle bought her and sighed.

Meaning she’s spent hours in vain.

She took a deep breath and went up to her room.

She freshened up and dressed up.

She went down stairs and made herself lunch or dinner, whatever it is.

Brett was nowhere to be seen so she ate freely.

She was done so she went up to her room.

The day went by and she kept wondering why Amber never came again.

She thought Amber didn’t like her as well.

It was morning and Carly got ready very early so she would trace Brett to the school.

After she had dressed, she made tea and ate with bread.

She went out and stood outside, waiting for Brett.

She sighted Brett’s car and got ready for it.

Her plan was to run after Brett’s car like she did with Kyle the first day they met.

Since she’s a good runner, she’s might make it to school.

Once the car drove out, she followed as fast her legs could carry her.

Brett sighted her running from the rearview and felt pity but then again, you’re not suppose to feel pity for women she once you do, they use it against you.

That’s what Brett thought so he increased his speed and Carly did too.

Carly had luck cause the…….. Showed red and Brett’s car stopped.

She ran after and caught up with it.

She squatted with her hands on her knees as she p-nted.

Brett looked at her with pity as she p-nted but he quickly looked away.

No no no, he doesn’t care.

‘ I don’t care, I don’t wanna care ‘ he muttered under his breath.

The light showed green and Carly had already gathered up some strength.

Brett started and Carly followed.

Though she couldn’t beat the car, she marked the way he passed.

Mins later, she arrived at a road where the schools name was written on a sign board with an arrow pointing the direction.

She heaved a sigh of relief and followed the way.

She sighted the school building and got happy.

She reached the school and headed straight to the restroom where Kyle had taken her the other day.

She dried up the sweat on her body, watched her face and went to the class.

That day, school wasn’t easy for Carly cause she was mocked that she couldn’t talk.

When she was being asked questions, she neither talked nor showed any signs so that made them call her a dummy.

She already had a nickname in the school.

She reached home and collapsed on her bed.

She had ran to school and walked back home and that’s very tiring.

After she had rest for a while, she got up and freshened up.

She ate and came back to her room.

Days went by and the way which Carly went to school was like hell.

And the students are not adding anything good to it.

It’s been weeks and Kyle ought to have come by now but he isn’t.

She missed him so much.

Brett on the other hand has turned her to a slave.

She cleans the while Josue though it’s not dirty.

She even rakes the garden and trim the flowers.

Brett found all the way to make her life hell and he succeeded cause her life now is indeed hell.

She just wished for Kyle to come back.

She laid on her bed and wished she could sleep.

I was so excited to go back home.

I miss my brother so much and especially Carly.

Wondering how I knew her name?

Yeah you have to wonder cashed she never talked so how the hell did I know?

Well I saw it in her diary.

I kinda sneaked in actually and twas like she was taking her bathe that day.

I saw it, “Carly’s diary “.

I’m catching the next flight tomorrow morning back home.

I just can’t wait to see her.

I laid on my bed and slept off.

I work up early the next day and my manager drove me to the airport.

I boarded the flight and waited patiently for me to reach home.

It’s a surprise cause even Brett doesn’t know I’m coming.

Hours later, the plane landed and I alighted.

I boarded a taxi and headed home.

I arrived home, paid the cab man and went in.

It’s Saturday so they’re obviously be home.

I rang the doorbell and it flew open, revealing Brett.

His eyes lit when he saw me and I embraced him.

I’ve missed him so much.

He hugged me back and ruffled his hair.

He stepped aside and I went in.

I looked around the house and noticed it was more beautiful and it was just been cleaned.

“Kyle ” I heard a strange but beautiful voice.

The voice seemed calm and angelic yet so sad.

I turned and saw Carly standing behind me, looking so tired.

But what! Did she just speak?

~ Kyle ~

I stood frozen on my s₱0t as I stared at her.

“Kyle ” she called again and ran to me.

She flew her arms around me and hugged me tight.

I was still stunned at her.

She can talk now.

I slowly wrapped my arms around her and buried my head on the crook of her neck.

I’ve missed her so much and looks like she missed me too.

I sighted my brother walking up the stairs.

I pulled away from Carly and took her to sit down with me on a couch.

“tell me, when did you start speaking ” I asked as I ran my hand down her soft cheek.

“please talk, I love your voice ” I said.

“today, your name was the first thing I spoke” she replied lowly.

My name?

Wow! I’m honored.

“tell me why you look so tired ” I asked.

“tell me ” I asked and she sniffed.

Slowly tears ran down her cheeks.

“I just missed you ” she said.

“are you sure that’s all? Did Brett do anything to hurt you ” I asked and she quickly nodded no.

She hugged me and rested he head in my chest.

“with you, I feel safe ” she said softly and I smiled.

I hugged her and car-ssed her hair.

“so today is Saturday and I’m gonna take you out ” I told her.

“now go dress up and I’ll take you out ” I said and she got up.

She sluggishly walked upstairs and I wondered why.

There’s something wrong.

I climbed the stairs and went to Brett’s room.

I went in without knocking and met him seated on his sofa.

“what did you do to her ” I asked bluntly but he didn’t even look to my direction.

“I’m talking to you ” I half yelled.

“I just made her stop roaming round the house

I made her clean the second sitting room ” he blurted out.

“you what ” I yelled.

I can’t believe he made her work like that.

“yep! I made her brush it, wash it and clean it over and over again ” he added with a smirk.

“you… ”

“that’s not all ” he cut me short.

“she ran to school every day and walk back home. Every one in school mocked her and called her a dummy ” he added still smiling.

“I made her clean the garden. In short, she was my slave ” he blurted out and crossed his leg.

I was so furious, so angry at him.

“I really can’t believe you Brett, you’re turning into a monster ” I said calmly trying to suppress my anger.

He just smiled and stared at me.

“you’re turning into him ” I blurted out and he flared up.

“take it back ” he said, coming toward me.

His eyes now dark with anger.

OK, what have I gotten myself into?

I really don’t wanna get on his bad side.

“you don’t wanna be like him? Then don’t act like him ” I said calmly.

He folded his fist in a ball with clenched jaw.

“OK OK OK! You’re not like him ” I quickly said.

“you’re my cute kid brother, so nice like an angel ” I said with a chuckle.

“but that doesn’t mean I liked what you did anyway ” I said and walked out.

The door bell rang and before I could get it, Carly beat me to it.

She wore a short fled gown that reached above her knees.

She’s just too beautiful and cute.

I think I’m in love already.

I’m never gonna let her slide away from me.

Amber walked in and flew her arms around Carly.

Carly hugged her back and I could see she was happy to see Amber.

Amber pulled away from Carly and ran to me.

She jumped on me and hugged me.

“I missed you so much ” she whispered and I smiled.

“I missed you too ” I said and k-ssed her forehead.

The three of us went out and caught fun.

We went to the park and different places.

It was finally time to come back home and Amber said she’d come with us too though it’s kinda late.

We arrived and Carly ran up to her room to freshen up while Amber followed me to my room.

She plumped down on the bed while I took of my shirt, leaving my singlet.

“so tell me, did Carly tell you anything about Brett cause he’s going crazy ” she said.

“nope she didn’t but Brett did ” I said.

I told her everything Brett did and she was very upset.

“and what did you do to him ” she asked and I sighed.

“nothing, I got him angry and calmed him back” I said and rolled her eyes.

“you’re spoiling him more, you’ve gat to make him realize his mistakes, don’t let him then into a monster cause of what happened to you guys ” she said and sighed and went to sit beside her.

“I want to so badly but I’m afraid that will distant him from me. Amber, he’s the only I have left, he’s my little brother and I’m to take care of him not push him away ” I said.

“Yeah I know but he’s turning into something else, I mean the incident that happened, happened to both of you and here you are, moving on but he’s not, he’s changing into a monster ” she half yelled.

“amber, I want to discipline him so much but he’s 19 not 16. The best I can do now is be with him in his difficult times, it’s to show him that I’m always here for him, it’s to make him move on from the past ” I said.

“Yeah you’re right and you’re not alone in this, Brett is like a brother to me too so you’ve gat me in this ” she said and I nodded.

“thanks ” I said and hugged her.

She left mins later and I freshened up.

Carly wanted to prepare dinner but I didn’t let her, she needs to rest.

“Carly ” I called just as she was about leaving the kitchen.

“I’m sorry for whatever Brett did to you ” I said and she bowed her head.

“please try to forgive him ” I added.

“I’m not angry with him” she said and my eyes slightly w¡dened.

“you’re not ” I asked and she nodded no.

“thank you so much ” I said and she smiled.

“you know, something happened to this family and Brett find it hærd to let it go. It’s changing him ” I said and I could see the look of fear in her eyes.

Her eyes got w-t and slowly turned tears flow down.

“something happened to you too, isn’t it ” I asked and she nodded in tears.

“that was why you found it hærd to talk ” I asked and she nodded.

“the night I found you, you were running from someone ” I asked and she nodded.

“oh my God! ” I said and hugged her.

“ssh it’s OK ” I cooed.

She sobered up and helped me set the table.

I served food on a tray and took it up to Brett’s room.

He was not in his room and I didn’t see him leave the house which means he’s in the other room.

I dropped the food on the table and went to get him.

I entered the room and immediately, the memories of the past rushed through me like a wind.

Brett was drawing another picture of Riley, our baby sister.

Pictures and drawings of our mom and sister filled the room.

“time for dinner Brett ” I said and he got up.

He walked past and went to his room while I went back to the dinning to eat with Carly.

In the middle of our dinner, the doorbell rang and I cussed.

Who could it be by this time?

Did Amber forget anything?

Carly noticed me and smiled.

“I’ll go get it ” she said and went to the door.

She opened it and seemed shocked.

She stood frozen, her body shaking with her hands straight beside her like someone being electrified.

Who the hell is that that she’s acting like that?

I got up and went to check it.

My jaw dropped and I seemed shocked and frozen toy s₱0t just like Carly.
