~ NEXT DAY ~

Beth woke up to get ready for school and as she prepared Calvin words came back to haunt her.

What does he intend to do? She thought as she left their room after saying goodbye to her mom.

She shake her head trying to get rid of the thought and as soon as she got outside, she expected to see him waiting by his car for her and there was a car there but there was no sign of him.

The chauffeur who had been waiting for her quickly move towards her to get her bag.

“What’s wrong?” She asked.

“The boss told me to bring you to school” the chauffeur said referring to Calvin.

” Am sorry but I can get to school on my……”

“Please don’t say no, if I don’t bring you then I will get fired” the chauffeur said.

“What?”

“He said that if I didn’t bring you to school then he will fire me. Please I don’t want to be fired, I still have three little kids to support” the chauffeur pleaded.

“That guy is just some thing!” She muttered under her breath even as she went into the car and quickly the chauffeur got in and drove her off to school.

As soon as the car drove into school, she could see some students lottering around wondering who was in the car, they will be shocked to see that it’s just the loser Beth that is in the car.

She got out of it and like she expected, they wondered how she got a hold of the car and their murmurs followed her all through the way to the staff office.

Just that morning, she had gotten a message from one of the staff to come see her and she knew that it had to do with her school tuition.

Karina father must have obviously stop paying her fees since she no longer work for them, she thought as she got to her home room teacher.

“Mrs Briggs” she greeted as she took her seat In front of her.

“You must know why I called you here?” Mrs Briggs asked and she nodded.

“Karina’s dad has stop supporting you and as I can understand, you don’t have the means to pay your tution and other stuff, what will you do?” Mrs Briggs asked.

“I can work to support myself” she replied.

“You can but you…..”

“Mrs Briggs”The principal called as he walk into the staff room which got all the teachers getting up at his arrival.

“Good morning sir” Mrs Briggs greeted.

“I heard about her situation and you don’t have to worry” the principal said starring at Beth.

“But her tuition and….”

“Has been payed already, so she can continue her studies here without a problem. Now hurry on to your class or you will miss your first class” the principal said pushing Beth gently out of the room.

Beth was still wondering what he meant when she walk into the class and the students who had been talking all kept shut when they saw her arrive.

They must obviously be talking about her, she thought as she went to her seat.

👤 “Heard she arrived in a posh car”

👤 “Maybe her sugar daddy gave it to her”

👤”A sugar daddy? But that’s detesting”

👤”She’s poor and obviously will do anything to own a bit of some thing in her miserable life”

👤”If I had known she was that easy, I would have had a go for her”

Beth sighed and switching on her head set, she put it on while she lay on head on the desk hoping the teacher will arrive soon.

Just then she felt someone pull off her head set and when she look up wanting to make the person who pulled it off pay, it was to see Calvin seated beside her.

“Hello” he greeted softly.

“Why are you here?” She asked referring to him seating by her side.

“Didn’t you hear? This is my new seat from now on” he muttered as he pulled out his books.

👤” What’s going on?”

👤”Why isn’t Calvin seated by Karina side?”

“Why don’t you just go back to your seat. The students are talking” she murmured.

“I got tired of seating beside Karina, I wanted to try out some thing new and that’s why am here” He said aloud to everyone whose gaze went to Katrina who focus her attention on her book, ignoring the murmurs and stares coming her way.

“But still, seating beside Karina’s messenger is like telling her something” Dexter said out while the others echoed.

“What’s it telling her? I just changed seat, what’s the big deal there?” Calvin asked and that shut their mouth up.

“So, did you enjoy your ride to school today?” He asked turning his attention back on Beth.

“It was more like hell, I would have preferred my bus” she said.

“Well since that didn’t impress you, what about the tution fee? I was walking past the principal corridor when I heard about them dismissing you and so like the hero I am, I decided to step in ” he said looking triumphant.

“Do you really think that by doing this, I will say yes and help you?” She asked and the teacher chose that moment to walk into the class dismissing further talk.

A while later, Mrs Briggs arrived, telling them what duty to do after school and everyone was given a task except for the RFR and Calvin.

“Excuse me but I haven’t been tasked” Calvin said bringing everyone attention on him.

“Well since you are part of the RFR, you don’t need to …..”

“Common! Isn’t that discrimination? Everyone has got a task while the six of us doesn’t haven’t a thing to do, that’s what I call discriminating ” Calvin said while the RFR all stared at him.

“Speak for yourself Calvin” Willow who hated school chores said.

“Well then, am speaking on behalf of myself. If you must know, I love doing chores and I wouldn’t mind if you give me some of the other students task” Calvin said to Mrs Briggs.

“Do you agree on that?” Mrs Briggs asked the other students and they all quickly said yes giving him an applause for his good deed.

“Not so fast guys! I will only do your task if Beth and I do it together” he said which got Beth starring at him.

“No way in hell!” Beth yelled at him.

“If that is so then I won’t do it” Calvin said which got them all grumbling.

” If you can persuade Beth then, I will” Calvin said enjoying the moment and immediately all the students in the class began to beg her.

Through her days in school, she’s been snobbed, insulted and ignored by the students in the class but having these same students pleading in her front got her feeling a bit weird.

“So it’s settled, Beth and I will do the chores” Calvin declared which got them clapping again while Beth silently curse him.

~ LATER THAT DAY ~

Calvin could been seen munching on a pack of popcorn while Beth cleaned the school hall.

“You are doing a nice job” he said starring at her.

“And that’s only because someone refuses to do a thing after promising he would” Beth retorted.

“Have got several maids working for me, do you expect me to do the cleaning?” He asked.

“If you didn’t had cleaning in mind, why promise to do it at all also putting me in jeopardy?” She asked throwing the mopping stick away.

“Now don’t get angry at the mop, it did nothing”he said picking the mop up.

“And besides didn’t it give you a thrill to have those snobbish students begging you?” He added and she thought about it for a while.

It did made her feel good to have those snobbish brat begging her for some thing but that didn’t get rid of the fact that he gave her a lot of work to do.

“Put that aside and tell me how you are going to help get this work out of the way” she said.

“I don’t have to do a thing cause you will finish it all for me” he said moving towards her.

“I thought that you wanted my help but you being this way won’t earn you a thing” she declared.

“You are right, it won’t but it sure got you talking to me” he said smiling just as walk past her.

“Where are you going?” She asked.

“Home, am tired as you see”

“So you won’t help me? I still have some chores to do at your house !” She yelled after him.

“Then finish this on time and come do your task at my house too” he said waving her off and feeling angry by the casual way he was acting, she carried the bucket which had dirty water in and poured it on the floor.

The water slid down to where it and it being slippy and soapy, it got Calvin losing his balance and falling on the floor heavily.

On seeing that, Beth quickly went to him to help him up.

“You did that on purpose right?” He asked starring at his trouser which was now wet.

Beth couldn’t hold it back in and she burst into laughter some thing which got Calvin starring.

She does have a beautiful smile if she isn’t screwing up her face in anger.

“Do you know that you look cute when you smile?” He asked and that got her sobering up.

Ending the smile, she push away from him and went to her mop.

“I will go and refill this” she muttered walking out of the hall while Calvin followed and unknown to them Katrina stood hidden some where watching the both of them.

Beth was done with cleaning the hall when suddenly five women approached her.

“You must be Beth right?” One of the lady asked and she nodded.

“Good then, we’ve been told to come relieve you of your work” she said.

“By who?”

“By Mr Calvin. You see we are a cleaning agent and so whatever task you are yet to do have been payed for by Mr Calvin for us to do it, so you can leave now, we will handle it” she said taking the cleaning equipment from Beth.

Beth was still wondering why Calvin change his mind and sent someone to help when she saw the same chauffeur from earlier waiting for her.

“If you don’t mind, I will like to take the bus and….”

“Mr Calvin told me to get you from school and take you to the boutique” the chauffeur said.

“Boutique?” She asked and he nodded.

“Get in miss” the chauffeur said and she went into the car wondering why Calvin was asking her to go to the boutique.

They got to a well known boutique in town and slowly she got out of the car.

On getting into the boutique she was surprised not to see a single customer apart from Calvin who was dressed in a new pair of uniform.

“What am I doing here?” She asked.

He didn’t bother answering but instead nodded to the attendant who quickly came to give her five carrier bags to carry.

“Don’t tell this is for me? Are you crazy! Must you persuade me with…..”

“Those bags are mine, am not here to shop on you are here to help carry my bags” he said checking out himself in the mirror.

“I should have known you were up to no good by asking me to come here” she yelled at him.

“You ruined my uniform and it’s only right you pay by working for me” he said as he went on to buying other stuffs which was given to her to carry.

She was silently cursing him as she put the bags in the back of the car.

He was in the car already and when she was about to get in, he gently pushed her back.

“Go and find a uniform for yourself too” he said.

“My uniform is good enough” she retorted.

And he pointed to her armpit where her jacket had a huge hole. To be sincere, she’s been saving to buy a new uniform but she hasn’t saved enough since a uniform from that School cost a fortune and how he manged to notice that got her surprised.

“Get the best one cause I payed a fortune for it” he said shutting the door even as the driver drove off while the attendant ushered her back into the boutique.

Beth walk into Calvin’s home thinking about her day and what transpired between her and Calvin.

He had accepted to do the other students task and in exchange, he had got the snobbish brat grovelling at her feet and even though she had pulled a prank on him during her cleaning task, he had sent some cleaning agent to relive her and he had noticed her torn uniform, some thing her mother hadn’t even noticed.

Unknowingly she let out a slow smile and at that moment Lily ran to her looking worried.

“Beth! Your mom”

“What happen to my mom?” Beth asked looking very serious, the smile vanish from her face.
