Being the only son in my family, I was treasured by my parents and was given everything that I needed. My 2 sisters used to complain a lot about it
but as far as I was concerned, they had all they wanted.

It was fun being the only son and I used to spend money without been scolded for it. We were a happy family and had each others back always. Dad always encouraged us to be each other’s keeper.

When I was in grade 10, mum fell ill. She spent 2 weeks in hospital and we were told that she had malaria. I didn’t believe it but dad kept on telling me that she only had malaria.

After 2 weeks she was discharged from the hospital and came back home but there was no improvement. One day she called me and my sisters Mirriam, and Recious to her room.

“My children,u know that I love u ryt”, she started.

“Yes mum”, we all answered

“I love u all very much and I know u love me too. I want u to continue loving & supporting each other like u have always been doing”, she said as she pulled Miriam the youngest closer to her.

“But mum y are u saying all this? What’s wrong”, Recious asked emotionally

“Nothing is wrong dear,it’s just that I might not always be with u. And Recious u are the eldest so please stop being too emotional over everything, learn to control your feelings”, she continued talking. ” Make sure Ken is more responsible “,she added

“U know how this your son is,he is stubborn and won’t listen to me”, Recious replied. ” u just have to discipline him yourself “,she added

“He has to listen to u”.

“Yes mum I will listen to her”, I responded with a smile.

Mum talked for some time then she said she needed to rest before dad came back. We went out and left her to rest.

Recious was upset and had tears in her eyes .” y is mum not getting better? This can’t be malaria, dad is lying to us all”,she said as she rushed to her room and locked the door.

I couldn’t cry in front of Miriam but I was hurting in,side.

I could see that even Miriam was about to cry so I pulled her close then hugged her. “Don’t worry dear, everything will be fine. Mum will be alright soon”, I told her as I tried to convince myself the same.

It was long week and we were all there watching mum slowly loosing weight and getting more sick each passing minute. I was helpless and heartbroken cause I didn’t think a day like this was going to come soon.

On the unfortunate Saturday when dad was out,mum started vomiting blood clots. We were all scared and didn’t know wat to do so Recious quickly called dad and told him but before he could even reach home,mum stopped breathing😥😭😭.

Recious was the first to realise that mum had stopped breathing but she couldn’t tell the 2 of us.

“Please take Miriam outside and stay with her as I clean the vomits😖”, she said while trying to hide her sad face with teary eyes

“Ok let me go and buy her something at the road side”, I responded

” do that please “.

My heart was bothered and I was certain that something was wrong. Dad got home before I returned with Miriam and as I returned home, I saw an ambulance and some police men coming out of the house with mum’s body fully covered.

I felt powerless and confused, nothing seemed real at that point. Recious was in tears,she was bitterly crying😭😭😭.

Life changed after mum’s departure from us. I realized that life was not a fantasy even though dad continued spoiling us but from time to time we all needed a mother’s love but mum was not with us so we had to learn to survive without her.

3 YEARS LATER
I was now in grade 12 and doing well while Recious was in college studying law. Dad seemed lonely most of the times.

” My son, I want to talk to u about something”,dad started a conversation one night after work

“Yes dad,wat is it? U can talk to me”.

“I know we loved your mum very much……but I think I can’t continue staying alone like this,I need a partner”,he said

We talked for a while then I left him and went to Miriam’s room to make sure she is alright. After that I went and slept.

Weeks passed and dad was getting along with the lady and he sometimes brought the lady home so that we could be familiar with her.

She seemed to be a caring lady but I just didn’t like her that much. Recious was told about everything and just after I wrote my grade 12 exams,dad married the lady. By the way,her name is Natasha.

We were getting along and she was taking good care of Miriam and over friendly with me. She was just 2 years older than Recious so it was hærd to call her mum. I preferred not calling her

One day we were sitting in the living room watching TV with Mimi and Natasha. We were watching a rom-ntic movie but Mimi wasn’t interested so she said she wanted to go and see her friend so she left.

A few minutes after she left,Natasha went to her bedroom too and came back with money. She came where I was sitting and handed me the money. I reached out to take it,then she rom-ntically touched my hand,smiled and winked at me.

I was surprised and speechless, so I just took the money and went to buy wat she asked me to buy.

She was always looking for a reason to talk to me and sometimes to touch me. I was really getting annoyed with her.

I became uncomfortable in my father’s house because of Natasha, she was an immoral woman and her display of affection towards me was just gross.

3 months later I decided that I will just go for holiday at my grandmother’s place but I had to ask dad first.

“Dad I think I will be going to see granny coz she has being telling me to come for a while now”, I started the conversation and Natasha was there too as the wife.

“Oh really? That’s good u shud go and see her”, he responded with happiness

“U are allowing him to go just like that?”, Natasha interrupted the conversation

“What do u mean let him go just like that? He is going to see his granny it has been long since they saw each other”.
“So he is going right? Who will be helping me out at home? And what about Mimi?”

“She is more comfortable with his brother than me and she can’t do all the work alone”.

But she didn’t go direct to her room, she stood behind dad for some few seconds and blew flying k-sses to me while dad wasn’t looking.

I was very upset and without dad saying a word,it was evident that he accepted wat his useless wife said. I just went out and went to a friend’s place.

“Am not sure wat to do man,that girl is getting on my nerves”, I told Peter my friend

“What do u intend to do now?”

“I really don’t know,I think I shud just leave the house for now”.

‘Leave the house and go where?”

“Anywhere man,anywhere”.

“But u know wat the young lady wants so just give it to her”.

3 days passed from the day Natasha said I should not go to see granny and this time something worse happened.

I was in my room when she came in uninvited. I had locked the door with a key not knowing that she has a duplicate key. I was shocked wen she entered and she was wearing a see through night dress and it wasn’t even evening yet.

“Wat do u want here?”, I furiously asked as I stood up from my bed

“U know wat I want so stop pretending”.

“Are u not even ashamed of doing this? U are my father’s wife”.

“So wat? Yo father is old and he is not my age mate but u are”.

“U must be foolish, get out of here before I do something I will regret”.

” u can’t do anything. Ken I love u,just accept me and u will be happy. I promise yo dad won’t know about this”,she said as she came close to me and touched my l-ips.

“u are the biggest fool I have ever met. GET OUT!!”, I shouted and she got a bit scared so she left.

It wasn’t easy to avoid the Jezebel dad brought to our home as a wife but I had to resist that devil.

“No,noooo sis,I just made a mistake. Talk to u later,I have work to do”, I ended the call.

I was afraid to tell her that wat I told her was about me coz I knew she would come back without writing her promotion exams. I just had to handle all this alone even though I didn’t know wat to do.

“I wish mum was still alive then all this wouldn’t be happening”, I thought to myself as tears dropped from my eyes😢😢😥. I now missed mum more than ever.

A FEW WEEKS LATER
“Son am going to another town for some work and u are remaining as the only man in this house,so u shud take care of yo mum especially yo sis”, dad told me.

“Ok dad,don’t worry I will take care of Mimi and I won’t give u a reason to complain”.

“That’s my son”.

That same afternoon dad left and it was only me,Mimi and Natasha in the house.

I knew that Natasha now was going to take advantage of dad’s absence so I had to be careful. I told Miriam to be sleeping in my room coz she was scared especially that dad was away, so I used that to my advantage. She wud sleep on my bed and I slept on the floor. That made me a bit safe from Natasha but not for long.

At first I didn’t see her coz I was busy dozing then she touched my feet,that was when I woke up.

She came wearing a short towel and it made me uncomfortable so I stood up.

“What have u come to do here again?😤😤”

“U know y am here,am here for u”.

Before I could say anything else,she went to the door locked it and kept the keys.

“And I Ken don’t want to touch u,I don’t even know wat dad saw in you coz u are a loose girl and heaven knows how many men u have opened yo legs for”.

“Am here for u my boy,so just make me feel happy”, she said as she came closer to me and this time I didn’t push her away.

She started playing with my beard while leaning on my chest and I did nothing to stop her. I just let her go on with her nonsense for a while until I made her believe that I was also now comfortable.

I pushed her on my bed then went closer and closer to her. It was evident that she felt as though she was on top of the world.

She closed her eyes while sleeping on the bed and slowly I touch her hands,got the keys and then whispered in her ears ” U ARE A FOOL NATASHA”. I stood up,opened the door and left her lying on the bed.

She was really upset and that day in the evening, I wasn’t given food to eat and I didn’t even complain.

Everyday she would try and she once even tried to break the bathroom door wen I was taking a bath but luckily, the door was strong. I just couldn’t understand her way of thinking and her shameless acts.

Dad finally came back and I thought things would get a bit better not knowing that Natasha had a surprise for me.

That evening dad sent Mimi to call me.
“Ken, dad wants to see u in the sitting room and am sure he is not happy with u”, Mimi said as she stood at the door

I was heartbroken cause Natasha had succeeded to turn everyone against me but Mimi was always there for me.

The following day,I went to Peter’s place and invited him over.

Natasha was worried that she might be caught so I came out of the door and opened the door.

I switched on the lights and Natasha was surprised upon seeing Peter.

I didn’t know how talkative Mimi was and that shocked me a lot. Her school friends always said she was talkative but at home she was a quiet type.

Natasha was scared and she went straight to her room and locked it.

We all slept peacefully that night but I doubt if Natasha had any sleep.

The following day wen dad came back home, Natasha made sure that he didn’t talk to me or Mimi but Mimi knew how to scare Natasha.

“No please don’t do that”, she grabbed the phone from Ken and just then Recious called me.

“There is nothing to be sorry about”.

“Pliz give Natasha the phone”, she asked me and I gave it to her

“I know everything u have been doing and am coming for u. Don’t think u can get away with such disgusting acts u pr-stitute”

“Ken take back yo phone now”, she gave me back the phone and went to bed.

Dad followed Natasha to the bedroom and we could here Natasha shout at dad wen he tried to ask her wat Recious said which upset her that much.

But one day,I just saw granny and aunt come to the house. And shortly dad was home,so was Peter,dad’s 2 sisters and his brother.

I didn’t know wat was happening and I was curious to find out. Dad told everyone to gather in the sitting room and we did including Natasha.

“If I say i know y this meeting is called,then I will be lying. Am sure u all know that am not the one who called this meeting so am not the chairperson”, dad said.

“Yes we all know that and we are waiting for Mimi to tell us wat is so urgent that she had to call us all”, granny said.

I was shocked to hear that it was Mimi who gathered us all for a meeting and before I could say anything, Mimi came in.

U could tell that Natasha almost died with fear and am sure she prayed for the ground to swallow her.

“Welcome everyone, am sure u are all wondering y I called this meeting and I will tell u but firstly I want to make it clear that no one and I mean no one is allowed to go out of this room until I finish talking”, Mimi narrated her instructions to us all.

“Mimi be remindful that u are taking to yo elders”, granny cautioned her.

“Am sorry granny if I have offended everyone but all the same,I want u all to watch a movie together. It has been long since u did that”,she said and turned to the TV.

At this point I just had to step in and help my sister coz she always helped me as well.

“You see what I tell u Darling? I always tell u that u have spoiled these children, now look at wat she has done. Gathering all of us here for nothing, she is just making a joke out of everyone here”, she added fuel to the fire.

Mimi was really upset and I could tell that she wanted to water Natasha with harsh words but luckily, she held herself back.

Dad just looked at Mimi,shook his head and stood up to leave and so did everyone else. But before they could reach the door leading outside, Mimi played the video and the volume was high.

“So Ken,are u ready to do what I asked you? You know am the only one who can change your father’s opinion about you”, the video started to play and everyone got interested so they came back to the sitting room.
Everyone failed to sit, they just stood and watched the video until the end.

“Now please tell me wat wrong I have done. Was I wrong to call u all here to tell u the truth about this bad woman dad brought as our mother? She made my brother uncomfortable in his own house “, Mimi cried out.

“I can’t believe this, Natasha seemed to be a honourable person. I didn’t know u can do this young lady”, granny told Natasha.

Everyone was busy murmuring to themselves wen we just heard a loud sound. ” PAAH!”. It came from dad’s direction. Dad slapped Natasha in the face and this surprised all of us especially me coz dad always told me not to ever hit a woman but that was wat he did.

“I trusted u with my kids and this is wat I get. U know what? You are leaving this house this minute,you are not worthy of been my wife later on a mother to my kids”, dad hurtfully and angrily made his decision known there and then.

“I don’t know what to say to you Natasha. You are a disgrace to womanh-od, please leave this house”, granny also told her and she came to me and hugged me. “Am sorry we didn’t realize all this, am sorry”, she hugged me and dropped tears.

It was heartbreaking seeing granny cry because of what that Jezebel did and surprisingly, she didn’t say a word to defend herself. The only thing she said was ” baby please let me stay,am caring yo child”.

“Whose child?😡😡. Don’t even go there coz u well know that the child you are caring is not dad’s child”, Mimi responded to Natasha’s claim.

“It is his child, just shut your mouth. You are even too young to talk about this”,Natasha tried to shut Mimi

They both explained how they came to know about that fact and Natasha was left with no choice but to leave the house.

She went to Mr Banda’s house but Mr Banda denied the pregnancy and right now as this story is been narrated, Natasha is going round houses washing people’s clothes just so she can feed her child and take care of herself as well.

I feel bad for her but I can’t do anything, she brought all this upon herself. She had an opportunity to live a good life with dad but she blew it away.

Right now Recious is happily married to a doctor,Mimi is still in school and I am completing my tertiary education as an engineer.

Dad has not remarried but he is happy and still going strong.
