MATILDA’S POV
I don’t think you understand what let’s give ourselves distance means. I literally said we should never cross path again and here you are blurting nonsense about picking me up. Do you even have conscience at all? I asked.

Look! I know you’re still angry at me, but… Of course I am and that’s why you need to learn how to be obedient and stop being a disturbance in people’s lives… I said after cutting him short of his words. “I won’t take it lightly when next you try this with me” I added and left his front.

I was walking away angrily when a car suddenly drove past me and parked. I was still wondering why the driver did that when my phone started ringing.

Hello! I said to Chris who happened to be the caller. “Hey babe! I’m so sorry I couldn’t get you out of there in time, I sent that driver to pick you up so please hop in and let him drive you home, I’m very busy at work right now” He said

You should better be sorry, because if you hadn’t kept me waiting, I wouldn’t have been embarrassed by that annoying John who showed up out of nowhere and asked to drive me home… I said pretending to be angry.

C’mon, I’m so sorry dear. I did that because unexpected things came up at the office which I had to do personally and I have to travel out of the country in few days time to attend to some other businesses and to conclude the ones I’m doing right now.. He said

Alright! take your time dear, I’ll be waiting at home, though I have to stop at my Mall now… I said and ended the call.

“Babe! I can’t believe we will be clocking twenty years of age in a month’s time” Anita scre-med in my ear as she wished me a happy new month while on call.

I really have to inculcate the habit of using my airports whenever I wanna receive a call from you or else, you’re gonna make be go deaf with your loud voice… I said

Whatever! but come to think of it, is that how time flies? I can’t believe a year has passed already since we’ve been going through all those tough situations… She said

I’m really excited about it. I wanna know how it feels to be an adult and I wanna start experiencing how adulthood is like… I replied

We gotta start planning how birthday party now and please don’t say no to my opinion because I’m not gonna take that from you. We both share the same birth date and month, so we have to make it memorable… She said and I remembered my deceased twin sister

You want me to celebrate my birthday in the absence of my sister? Do you know we both would have been so happy to turn two decades old if she had been alive? C’mon I can’t do that and I won’t.

Yeah! That’s the point. She’s dead and she would be so happy to see you’ve moved on with your life and have stopped mourning her death. Don’t you think you’re putting yourself in danger zone as you keep her memories fresh in your head? Take it or leave it, we’re gonna celebrate our birthday and that’s the final… She said and hung up.

I took my time to ponder over what she said and I finally made my decision to let go of the past and focus on the present and work towards the future.

I texted her to take care of the venue and the invitation cards while I take care if the rest.

Days rolled over weeks and before I knew it, weeks turned to a month and I must confess, the previous month has been one of the best month I’ve ever witnessed alive and that’s because Chris whom had always had feeling for me confessed his feeling to me and I confessed mine after some weeks even though it’s really a hærd thing to do.

I was working in my office one afternoon when I felt a knock on my door and my secretary came in afterwards. “You have a visitor ma’am and I can’t allow him into the office” she said

Why can’t you allow him in, is it any of the people I forbade from entering my office? I asked and she tutted. “He’s been constituting nuisance outside claiming he wants to see you, so please come attend to him” she answered “Alright! Let’s go” I said and closed the file I was working in before leaving with her.

Where is he and why is there no sign of disturbance here? I asked as we reached outside and she pointed at a car that was parked in the parking lot.

Can’t you talk? Why are you just pointing instead of talking? I asked as I moved further, but she isn’t behind me any more.

I saw Chris alight from the car and a smile crept on my face. I’m sorry to interrupt, I’m the so called person causing the disturbance. I didn’t want you to argue with me while in your office, won’t had to tell your secretary to lie to you. I’m sorry but you have to come with me now, we have somewhere to go… He said

“You deserve some punishment and trust me, I’ll give it to you later” I said and walked to the car. He drove to a s₱0t and blindfolded my eyes before taking off again.

C’mon! Where are we heading to that you have to blindfold my eyes before getting to? I asked as we walked around a place I don’t even know about.

OMG!!! I exclaimed as I saw the beautiful dresses being displayed before me. “I want you to pick out of these, the dresses you would like to wear on your birthday. Please don’t tell me you would pick one, because I wouldn’t want you to wear just a dress that day.

You know I sell dresses and dressing up wouldn’t be a problem for me, so why did you come to spend the money you’re supposed to spend on my business here? I asked in a whisper.

“I know you don’t have these particular ones, so that’s why I brought you here. Don’t worry, imma pay you the amount the dresses cost” he said. “You better do” I replied and went forward to lick the ones I love.

The D day finally came and I began getting birthday wishes from people at exactly 12:00am. Anita and Chris who had been competing for the first person to send me their birthday wishes were disappointed when i told them it was John that sent me a wishes first, even though it ruined my mood.

The party started and everyone sure enjoyed themselves till the party ended. I was going to go to the stage to give my vote if thanks when I noticed everyone had become silent all of a sudden.

Confused as I am, I looked at everyone’s faces and traced the direction of their gaze till it got to the stage where i saw John and Gabriel standing next to each other, looking so serious and determined. I’m sure they wanted to make a public apology. I was moved by their words. After giving it much thought, I decided to forgive them though I can never forget what they did.

“I forgive you both” I said and they walked up to me to thank me. John wasn’t willing to disengage from the hug, so the jealous Chris came to assist him in doing that which made John and I laugh slightly at his actions.

Thanks for deciding to let go of the past and not hold any grudge on the again. I love you and will always do… He said and k-ssed me, while everyone clapped.

I did that to make my parents happy because they trained me to be that type of person. I wouldn’t have been able to forgive them if not for the grace of God and my parents… I said.

“Thanks for doing that my daughter” their mom said. “How I wish you had been my sister in law today, I would’ve kept the story of how you met my brother and how you forced yourself into his house in a recording tape for you children, but too bad we both f-cked up by letting our emotions get over us”… Gabriel said and I smiled

I looked at them all and said, “I seriously can’t believe I would no longer be the CRAZY BEGGAR”
