THE HALO BREED
SEASON 3
ARMAGEDDON
EPISODE 12
Densua was now a den of horrors!
The Heavils – Hazzies, Hunters and Hadesians – roamed the land to the farthest reaches of the land.
Survivors mostly moved from their homes and formed themselves into tiny clusters in the mountains and in the bushes. It was a raw, violent, horrible time in the annals of the great city.
The red mist persisted, perhaps even got thicker, making breathing really difficult for the indigenes.
Perhaps, one thing worth noting in this rather macabre development in Densua was what happened after Kobby Obeng saved his children from the ruthless attack of Dan.
The confused Hunter followed his children for a while, and stood outside the forest and watched them linking up with a group of people. He stood there for a long time, a confused hulk of a man who was aware that those two needed his protection, and yet he did not know exactly why he had to protect them.
His dim mind, dulled by the hot virus of the Hadesian bite, only made the connection that those two, and the woman who had been captured, were a part of him.
The woman!
Yes, the poor woman whom the dog had saved!
She was also a part of him, and needed to be saved from the clutches of his deranged partner!
Kobby turned from the woods with great growls and retraced his lumbering steps back through the fields with a single purpose in his heart: save the woman!
He broke free of the marshes and came to a confused stop.
Daniel was slobbering in the mud, eating grass voraciously and with great relish. Standing on the dry ground was Araba, but she was not alone.
She was with Lord Lastor and Grace Klubi.
The princess was wearing a long, beautiful white dress, and her wings fluttered gracefully behind her. One of her arms was around Lord Lastor’s wa-ist.
Lord Lastor was wearing a long black cape-like shroud, and as he looked at Kobby Obeng, there was a slight smile playing along his l-ips.
Kobby felt fear when he saw Lord Lastor gently touching Araba’s hair. The woman was still trussed up with the ropes Daniel had used, and there was terror on her face as she stared helplessly at Kobby with tears raining down her face.
And there was something different about Lord Lastor.
His two horns – which had always been curled over his forehead, head and down his pointed ears – were now standing straight, and they were bristling with a strange humming sound.
His eyes which always blazed green, were now just inky orbs of blackness as he fixed them on Kobby. He snarled ominously, and Kobby shivered when black smoke billowed from the monster’s nostrils and ears.
Even in the confused state of his mind, Kobby Obeng became afraid.
Lord Lastor pointed a forefinger that was black and gnarled at Kobby, and the hunter saw blue flames glowing on the Hadesian’s finger.
“You denied me food!” Lord Lastor said in a very low voice.
“He gid! Yahsh, he gid!” King Dan said with his mouth filled with juicy grass.
“I decide who lives!” Lord Lastor said, his voice still soft, and more smoke billowed out of his nostrils and ears. “You dastardly humans! Always so unpredictable, so undisciplined, so filled with dirt because of your hearts!”
He grabbed Araba by the scruff of the neck and lifted her.
She scre-med with terror.
“Kobby! Help me, Kobby, please! Kobby!” she cried stridently.
Kobby growled and raised his sword. With a look of sheer distress on his face he rushed forward frantically with his arm drawn back to strike his master.
“Fool!” Lord Lastor hissed and pointed.
The ground cracked with w-t, plopping sounds, and rotten hands appeared from the ground and grabbed Kobby’s legs!
These fiendish hands were from Kobby’s worst nightmares.
Over the years, fighting with Gus Kukah in battle after battle had taken a toll on Kobby. He had tried to hide it, and had managed to keep it from himself. Only his wife, Araba, knew that Kobby sometimes woke up deep in the night scre-ming, but he always told her that he had a nightmare he could not remember.
But he remembered every single gory image!
In his nightmare, he saw people he had killed, hands he had severed, torsos he had laid wide open, all creeping from the ground and chasing him, killing him, torturing him!
And that was exactly what was happening now!
Rotten, gory, bloodied hands, heads, intestines and other creepy human body parts were all creeping out of the ground and wrapping around his legs.
“Koooooobyyyyyyy!” they mo-ned. “Kooooobyyyyyy!”
Kobby Obeng could not move.
He stood still as the hands crept all over him!
Stinking, rotting, bloodied hands!
Heads were jumping out of the ground and bouncing up at him! Heads with no bodies, bodies with no heads… dead people, slain people! People with half of their heads gone, their brains spilling out and reaching out for him!
Dead people with their intestines gushing out of their stomachs and reaching for him!
“Kooooooobyyyyyy!” they gro-ned in fevered cadences. “Kooooooobyyyy!”
“Shhtop!” Kobby wailed in anguish with his new old croaky voice as his body shook uncontrollably with terror. “Pleassshhhhh! Makesh it shhtoooop!”
“I decide who lives and who doesn’t!” Lord Lastor hissed as he grabbed Araba’s neck.
“I love you, Kobby!” Araba wept bitterly. “Mama Janice where are you? Gus Kukah where are you?”
Lord Lastor was gazing at Kobby as he lifted Araba’s arm at the elbow, and then he pulled it right out of her body!
“Noooooooosh!” Kobby Obeng scre-med in anguish.
There was a bloodied h0le in Araba’s shoulder now as Lord Lastor dropped her arm.
The woman clamped her mouth shut tightly as she gazed at her husband, refusing to give in to her horror and pain.
“I love you, Kobby, my husband!” she whispered.
Grace looked at Lord Lastor, obviously startled by this heinous brutality.
“I decide who lives!” Lord Lastor scre-med as he grabbed Araba’s other arm… and pulled it out too!
Kobby crashed to his knees, no longer minding the body parts that swamped him. His heart was shattered, and he bowed his head as he wept bitterly, unable to watch the brutal slaying of his wife.
Grace took steps backwards as she saw the torture on the face of Kobby, and the mo-ning piece of meat that was Araba.
Deep down in her some voice cried. Even she was sickened by this brutality, and for a brief pause of time she looked the young teenager that she was.
Lord Lastor’s face had now transformed from its handsome plains into the face of a horrible, green monster! His tongue was huge and forked as he looked at Kobby.
“Next time, you will do as you’re told!” he growled.
He held Araba’s shoulders, and then he simply tore that poor woman’s body into two!
Lord Lastor ripped her down right through the middle, almost symmetrically, and then dropped the body parts!
Blood poured out everywhere, forming a slick pool on the grass!
Grace suddenly mo-ned with horror as her hands flew to her chest, and this time she looked really horrified as she watched the demonic face of Lord Lastor!
His horned head, his face craggy and broken, his l-ips huge and parched, his tongue long and forked, his teeth long and crooked like fangs… he was a demon, not the handsome prince she had grown used to!
She saw Kobby Obeng’s anguish as he crawled towards his wife’s head which was still attached to a piece of her trunk.
Grace could not take it!
She began to ran furiously away from Lord Lastor.
“Gracieeee!” the demon thundered, but Grace was still running!
His face was once more compased into that handsome god-like looks, and then he took great lumbering steps and jumped into the air.
Lord Lastor soared into the air suddenly and moved with great speed above Grace, and then he swooped down like a hawk and plucked her up!
Grace scre-med and struggled but when Lord Lastor growled at her, she remained still in his arms and allowed him to hold her till they reached the palace.
And suddenly, all the horrible zombie parts emerging from the ground simply vanished, and Kobby could not see them again!
Even in his anguish he marvelled: this Lord Lastor had been able to unearth his horrible nightmare and used it against him!
King Daniel had stopped eating and sat in the mud looking at this horrid spectacle with his mouth open.
Kobby held the bleeding half of his wife and wept bitterly.
“I love you!” she whispered painfully. “Dear Spirits! What was that thing, Kobby? Fi-fi-find Gu-Gus if he li-li-lives!”
And when she died, it snapped Kobby’s heart!
Throwing back his head, he scre-med and wailed into the sky!
Sensibly, King Daniel Baffour-Koduah picked up his sword and began to flee furiously from the place.
Suddenly, Araba’s body parts burst into flames in Kobby’s arms and around him.
When Kobby stood up, his eyes were no longer sparkling green, but they were the normal eyes of a person filled with bitter gall.
“Gus!” he whispered. “Find Gus!”
He headed into the trees where his children had earlier entered.
