THE HALO BREED
SEASON 3
ARMAGEDDON
EPISODE 14
Sena, now clad in clothes and boots, walked fast towards the golden door that had appeared suddenly in front of him.
He had left the igloo early in the morning as he had promised with no word to any of the inhabitants. It was snowing heavily, the icy particles slanting diagonally towards the face of the boy. He kept his head down against the biting icicles but he did not slacken his walk.
Behind him floated the two assassins of the spirits, and high above him was the spectral form of the Sage of the Spirits as he followed his progress in the Walk of Life.
When he came to the golden door, it opened for him, and he went through. Immediately, the door shut behind him, and when he turned, he saw no door.
Sena Kukah stood still for a moment flexing his numbed fingers to improve the blood circulation. His bleak eyes surveyed his surroundings carefully.
He was standing on a rocky mountain, and in front of him was a long rope bridge with wooden planks that spanned the gulf between him and the other side.
Beneath the rope bridge was a cauldron of yellow and red molten lava that emitted a horrible crackling heat, spluttering and shooting high round blurbs of molten horror high into the sky.
There was a vast temperate difference between this place and the freezing environment he had just emerged from. The heat here was so intense that he could sweat on his face immediately. The air here was steamy and hot, and he knew it would be almost suicidal to dally in this terrible place.
In front of him were two warriors standing on each side of the bridge and holding scythes. Sena noted how cold their eyes were, and how perfectly their bodies were conditioned, and he knew that these men were good with the scythes, and could be of great danger.
He walked fast towards them and he was not aware that the assassins of the spirits had drawn their swords and were hovering over his head now.
“You do not pass,” said the young man on the right.
“Go back the way you came from,” the one on the left said as they suddenly brandished their weapons. “Another step and we’ll kill you.”
Sena’s cold face did not change as he advanced on them steadily, and then he made a sudden dash towards the bridge. The two warriors instinctively turned their scythes sideways to block his sudden rush forward.
At the last moment, Sena spun to his right and reached for the collar of the warrior on the left and yanked him back and over, throwing him bodily across the mountain face.
As the agonized scre-ms of the warrior began, Sena kicked savagely into the belly of the warrior on the right. It was a savage, cruel blow that thr-st the warrior backwards, lifting him off his feet, and then he also scre-med as his body hurtled over the edge.
“Dear Spirits!” Prosper whispered with awe as he gazed down from high up, then he watched Sena moving quickly across the wooden bridge. He broke into a fast trot, and the assassins followed with their swords still drawn.
“Why?” Prosper asked aloud. “He did what he had to do to get on the bridge! Why are you still following him with swords?”
The roiling lava below was getting angrier!
It began to roll like sea waves, bunched up high just below the rope bridge and crashing down with a horrible spluttering roar, sending blasts of heat to rock the bridge.
Sena ran faster as a mist swirled around the bridge.
Suddenly, he came across a very old woman whose foot was trapped in one of the wooden slabs lining the foot bridge. She was sitting down with tears spilling down her cheeks as she yanked at her foot. That particular foot was chaffed sore and swollen, a clear indication that she had been trapped for quite a long time.
“Young sire!” she cried pitifully as she held out a wrinkled hand towards Sena. “I beg of thee, sire! Doth have the mercies on a poor widow!”
She looked so crushed that Prosper felt a twinge of pity for her.
“Help her, Sena,” he whispered from high above the Halowan prince. “Help the old lady!”
Sena jumped over the old lady and continued to run.
Prosper gasped with horror as the assassins raised their swords and followed Sena. Surely, such wickedness could not be accepted from a prince in whose hands lay the destiny of the Earth!
Sena came to another part of the bridge where the wooden rungs had broken off and a little boy was dangling over the edge. His father was lying halfway on the bridge. Half of the man’s body was on the bridge whilst the other half – from his wa-ist upwards – was in,side the huge h0le as he held his son’s arms.
The boy could not be more than three years old, and he was bawling with terror. The boy’s mother was holding the legs of her husband tightly to give him anchor, but the man could simply now pull his son out of the h0le because he had no leverage. Instead, the combined weight of father and son was dragging all of them into the simmering cauldron below.
“Please, please, please!” the woman scre-med with terror as her tears fell. “Please, stranger, help us! We beg of you help us!”
Prosper Freeman watched with horror as Sena bent slightly without pausing, grabbed the woman by the collar of her dress, and pulled her away as he vaulted the yawning gap.
The woman scre-med with horror as her husband and son plunged into the fiery lava below!
“No!” Prosper gro-ned with despair. “Sena! What cruelty!”
Sena carried the woman forward a bit and dropped her.
He continued running faster now.
The assassins chased him with raised their swords higher. Prosper expected the blades to fall on Sena but the assassins continued to hold, and on their faces were looks of chagrin and confusion!
This boy must be killed, they thought!
But somehow, it seemed Sena’s imminent execution was being delayed!
And they all could not understand why!
Sena was running with great strides now, and suddenly he was faced with a crowd of old men and women on the bridge! They were many and they were so old that they were moving slowly and packed on the bridge.
Prosper expected Sena to slow down and courteously ask for a way through.
But this wicked boy did no such thing, alas!
He raced right through them, pushing them out of his way in his wish to get to the other side of the bridge! The senior people cried with alarm as they fell one after the other, dropping their walking aids pitifully!
“Sena!” Prosper shouted. “Are you mad?”
But of course, the boy could not hear him, and he continued to mow down the aged people until he was free and running on the bridge!
Then suddenly, Prosper saw that the bridge had caught fire near the post at where one of the warriors had been guarding, and now it was burning through the middle furiously!
“Dear Spirits!” Prosper whispered with horror!
He watched as the horrible fire consumed everything in its path as it raced towards Sena.
The boy did not pause to look back. He just continued to ran hærd as the raging inferno roared down the bridge. Suddenly, it was right behind Sena, almost zipping at his heels! The wh0le bridge began to collapse now, spilling burning wood into the lava.
All the people on the bridge had just vanished, and finally Prosper understood. The scenarios had been enacted by the spirits, as part of the test as Sena took the Walk of Life!
With bated breath, Prosper saw Sena leaping high off the bridge! He soared high like an eagle, graceful and powerful!
No ordinary man could achieve such jumping ability if he had not been trained by the gods. For a minute, Prosper thought Sena would fall back into the violent lava.
Then, incredibly, Sena landed on the other side and rolled once before gaining his feet. He stood, tall and proud, dark-faced and calculating. Every inch a man, and every inch a devil!
Prosper knew that if Sena had stopped to help the old man and the boy, and had taken his time with the crowd on the bridge, he would have suffered a painful death! He had seen the broader picture: somehow, he had known the hot lava would eventually burn down the bridge, and he had acted in the only way that could save his life!
That a man could focus solely on survival and not be moved by the plight of others was both horrifying and disgusting, in a way. But it also pointed to the sort of man the Spirits had created: a wicked, cold, calculating devil who would always look at the broader picture!
And so, Prosper sighed with relief and wonder when he saw the assassins sheathing their swords and floating above the Halowan prince who had come to a silver door hovering on the rocks.
The silver door opened, and Sena entered and almost paused immediately!
The place he was now was a green paradise!
It was filled with green vegetation and fruits.
There was a serene little pool just in front of him.
And in that pool was a stunning woman!
Her beauty was flawless, and her dark skin shone like an ethereal being!
Her skin was silk, gleaming as she splashed water on her. That shape was heavenly, from the gently arcing br-asts to the wonderful wide h¡ps, glorious thighs and blissful legs. That derriere was so wonderful to look at, so gleaming!
She smiled shyly at him as she stood up fully and faced him with that amazing nudity, the juncture of her thighs framed by soft, dark hair. She smiled at him again and slowly ran a tongue across her l-ips.
“Oh, no!” Prosper whispered when he floated into view.
Sena stood still.
The beautiful, unclad woman approached him slowly.
