THE HALO BREED
SEASON 4
RAGE
EPISODE 12
“Father!” Kharisa and Obed said in unison and ran to his side as his eyes bulged out dangerously as if they were popping right out of his head, and his body continued to vibrate and thrash severely!
There was look of pure horror on Gus Kukah’s handsome face as he drew near the portal and put trembling fingers to his l-ips.
“Kobby?” he asked in an unsteady voice. “Is that Kobby, my brother?”
There were tears in Mavis’ eyes as she extended her hands towards the portal, but wisely did not touch it.
“Gus, oh, Gus Kukah, our bravest, wonderful warrior!” she wept softly. “It does not surprise me that you still refer to him as brother after what he did to you!”
“Representative Mavis!” Gus Kukah cried. “Oh, dear spirits! What happened to you? Why do I see you in the forest? And the House of Representatives? Don’t tell me the Armageddon is already on Densua!”
“It is, my love, my only love!” Sarai said as she knelt in front of the portal. “My darling, can you ever forgive me? Can I just touch your hand for a moment, k-ss you for a second?”
“Sarai!” Gus whispered in agony, and as he reached out his hand, Queen Derbie Gyeshie of the Halos took his shoulders and drew him back fiercely, quite alarmed by the tender look on his face.
She could not understand the language of the Earthlings, but she saw just how this woman was affecting her husband, and she knew without a doubt that she was the woman whom her Gussy had loved so dearly in his land.
“Why are you doing this to me, my Lord?” Derbie asked, and Gus noticed that her eyes were a cross between red and warm purple, an indication that she was both furious and scared, very scared. “I have not wronged you! You have pledged undying love to me, my King! Why then do you want to leave me, leave our children, and kill my very soul?”
Gus Kukah took his wife’s face in his hands, and he leaned forward and k-ssed her tenderly, and then he spoke with tears in his eyes.
“My love for you is granted, dear Derbie. I cannot ever leave you even if my mind wants to, for my heart beats only for you now, and what I do here is important to me. What lies beyond is no longer my responsibility or destiny, but the destiny of our son. But, my love, these are my people, and she is a woman I cared about. I might not ever see them again, so please, I beg of you, do not fret your spirit. Let me say my goodbyes.”
As her eyes roved his face frantically, she saw his sincerity, and heard his honesty, and so the great pain in her eyes quietened, and they turned a warm white and black again. She took his right hand and k-ssed his knuckles desperately.
“Forgive the whining of a jealous, silly wife, my Lord,” she whispered tenderly with tears in her eyes. “Go. I wait for you.”
Gus nodded tenderly and turned to the portal again where he noticed that Kobby Obeng had joined Sarai, and was kneeling in front of the portal as tears flooded his face, and he spoke in a most horrible, guttural voice that was barely discernible.
“Gushyyyyyy! Gushyyyyy! Forgishhhh meeeesh! Gusshy, Gush, Gush, yam yam shoooo virish shoryyyyyyyy!”
And as Gus stared at this man, reduced to what resembled a beast, his kind heart was kindled, and tears fell down his cheeks.
“What is this?” he asked in a wail. “Who did this to him? What infernal evil is this?”
“The Hadeshians, my Lord,” Mavis Antwi wailed in a broken voice. “They betrayed you, and left you for dead, and we could not get the Golden Elemental Totem to tighten the gates of Hades… and so they spilled in, and wasted your Densua, killing the people, maiming them, turning them into hideous monsters called Hazies and horrible Hunters like Kobby! Oh, Gus Kukah, are you the Breed of the Halos we’re waiting for to redeem our land? We die, we perish… we’ve been reduced to food to feed devilish monsters!”
“Get up, both of you!” Gus said as he wiped tears from his eyes. “I’m but a mere mortal. Kneel not to me! Please, get up!”
“But we wronged you, Gus, my darling!” Sarai wept bitterly now. “Oh, Gus! In my blindness for power and revenge I hurt you, and destroyed you! Forgive me, my love! Please, forgive me!”
Gus Kukah took a deep shuddering breath and wiped tears from his eyes.
“Nothing happened that was not supposed to happen,” he said gently. “I was hurt by your betrayals, yes, but I came to realize that it was necessary, and that whatever happened was planned by forces higher than us, and I was needed here to be the father of a liberator! I forgive both of you, unreservedly. My son comes through, Kobby, and I pray you show him dedication which you could not show me. Stand up, because I have forgiven you, and I love you, and I wish above all else that I could embrace you!”
And then something amazing happened!
The lake swirled high behind Kobby Obeng, and then it dragged him under. He struggled and spluttered! His children reached into the lake to draw their father up, but it was impossible as he thrashed around.
They thought he was drowning, but suddenly he was pushed up from the lake again, and there he was, his hideous features gone, and he was restored to the human he had once been!
“Father!” Kharisa scre-med and burst into tears of joy instantly.
“Gus!” Kobby whispered as he stretched out his hands towards his former commander. “My brother! I thank you for your mercies! But then again, your heart had never known guile! Thank you, my brother!”
Gus Kukah smiled with relief and held out his hand too.
“It is well,” Gus said shakily. “It is well, my brother!”
“I carried your daughter, Gus,” Sarai said suddenly with her hands across her heart.
Gus Kukah looked at her as if he had been hit physically.
“What?” he whispered hoarsely.
Sarai nodded, still weeping.
“Our last time together fertilized my eggs, Gus, the only man I have ever loved,” she said. “We have a beautiful daughter. I named her Dawn, after your mother!”
“Is she here?” Gus asked shakily, his face tortured. “Oh, Sarai! You’ll always be the death of me! How do you give me such news when I cannot hold her and worsh¡p her? Where is she?”
“The Hadeshians took her, bit her, changed her into a creature like Kobby used to be!” Sarai wailed. “I told her about you, what I did to you, and she hated me! I haven’t seen her since!”
Gus Kukah’s hands turned into great fists, and his face was filled with sudden fury and misery, and then he fixed his eyes on the magnificent boy beside him and put a hand on his shoulder.
“Your sister is out there, Sena, my son!” he whispered tightly. “Find her. Save her!”
Sena’s face was grim.
“She will be found,” he said quietly.
The portal began to tremble suddenly, and its edge erupted into fire.
“The time is now!” cried Sage Simpson in alarm. “My Lord, the boy needs to cross over!”
Tears welled up in Gus Kukah’s eyes as he gazed at Sena, and he knew that this could be the last time he saw him. He swept his son into his arms and squeezed him tightly.
“Spirit speed, my son!” he gro-ned painfully. “Fulfil your destiny, and if it pleases the Spirits, I’ll see you again.”
Sena squeezed his father tightly, and as he stepped back he felt his forehead tightening, and suddenly the Golden Elemental Totem flew with blinding speed from Gus Kukah’s forehead and slammed into Sena’s forehead so that only father and son, and the Sages, saw its transfer.
“It chose you,” Gus said with a sad smile. “You’re the One.”
Derbie, wailing pitifully, swept Sena into her arms, and she would not let go of him as the portal shimmered dangerously.
“He needs to cross!” Prosper scre-med.
“My Lady, the boy must cross!” Sage Simpson scre-med.
Still she would not leave him, and so Gus grabbed her arms and pulled her free from Sena.
“Gus!” Sarai scre-med as the portal began to turn black. “I love you, Gus. I’ll always love you!”
He only smiled and nodded, and held her gaze, and she saw the old look in his eyes again, that look of love and adoration, that precious look only he had ever had for her, and it broke her heart once more that she had let such a man go, and as she wept, the wh0le portal burst into flames, and just as it began to disappear, the wonderful son of Gus Kukah appeared beside them!
And then the portal was gone!
He turned and faced them, and they noticed the diamond circles around his irises, his incredible beauty, his inherent strength, and they all breathed with silent relief.
They knew he was the chosen one.
The one they had been waiting for!
The one that had been promised…
