The next morning, I was in a hurry to get to school, Nancy had tied me down with gossip, telling me how all my buddies are missing me, by the time I left home, time has already gone.
I stood there contemplating, listening to the trash that this bike man is telling me.
” I said I can’t take you to the school, there are police officers patrolling around that area, do you want my bike to be seized ”
The man was adamant, after collecting his
full payment, he couldn’t take me to the school, instead he drops me a few streets away.
” ehn, give me my change if you know you can’t take me to the school ! ”
He didn’t even listen, he starts the ignition of his bike and leaves me there
” it will not be well with you, useless thief!!!
I began to walk fast and I have this feeling that some people are following me.
I increase my pace but the people increased thier pace too.
They make a whistling sound with thier mouth
” heysss ”
If there’s one thing I hate in this life, it’s being addressed as ‘heysss”
I ignore them and continue walking 🙄
” are you dumb! We are calling you since morning, we’re going to kill you today, you dey form undertaker for school, you know how to slap guys right? , we’re going to teach you a lesson you’ll never forget in your life ”
I turn back and saw three notorious looking guys, I recognize one of them as the guy I slapped on my first day at school.
I think Jayne called him Azeez 🤔
Why is trouble looking for me very early in the morning!
” you know what, you are so stupid, a girl beat you up, instead of you to hide your face in shame, you decide to call your friends to fight for you, if not for the fact that I’m late for school, I’ll make your lives miserable for you ”
I hissed at them and continue walking when one of them slaps me at the back of my neck.
I wanted to strike back but I saw them bring out a knife and smile maniacally
” , radio Lagos, Mrs tap mouth, continue talking ! ”
One of them barks angrily .
Oh no!
This is cheating !
You want to fight with me and you’re holding knife, do you want to kill me !!

My mind gives me a warning but I’ve never heeded any advice warning me to stay away from trouble
I make sure I slap him hærd on the face before taking to my heels, p-nting heavily as I ran
I remove my shoes and flings it at them
It landed on one’s nose. 😁😁😁
I cheered myself before realizing that I just did a stupid thing
My school shoes! 😨😨😨
They started chasing me
Oh no! They’re going to catch up with me!!
I was grateful when a red SUV parks and whines down the glass, I peer into it and saw a middle aged man.
” hey why are you running, lemme give you a ride ”
” thank you sir, God bless you sir!”
I quickly enter the car, and the stupid boys swears at me from a distance.
Instead of the man to focus on the road, he was busy looking at me,
Better don’t let us have accident 🙄🙄
He asks for my name and I told him I’m Ifeoma
! Am I not Ifeoma 😏
I gasp in shock as he suddenly grabs one of my br-ast and squeezes it so hærd.
What the hell!
I didn’t waste time, I slap him immediately
He even had the guts to smile as he rubbed his cheeks with one hand .
” that was uncalled for you know, ify baby, you’re a pretty girl , as you’re looking at me, I’m a very rich man, let me take care of…
I gave him another slap
” you’re a very shameless man, I’m sure you’re married, and you have kids, one of them could be almost my age, before you go around harassing young girls, think about your own children, (oloriburuku man), (Yah iskah), (onye ara) ”
I said before realizing that I have insulted him in four different languages.
” park this car and open the door before I start scre-ming!!!!
He opens the door and throws me out with so much force that I lost my footing and fall down on the floor, I grazed my arm and blood trickled slowly
My God will punish you!
I willed myself not to cry!!
My uniform was stained, I look like a mess.
I got to the school minutes later and I meet that stupid Viktor standing at the gate.
I notice the red SUV leaving the school premises
So that useless man’s child is in this school!
Who can it be? 🤔
I really pity the child for having such a useless father
” beautiful angel, you’re late already, but you may go, I won’t punish you for late coming ”
Viktor says to me
So he has forgotten the insult I gave him yesterday!
He smiles at me but unfortunately the effect of that smile was lost on me.
I march into the school and he yells at me from behind
” hey come back! You’re dressed improperly, where are your shoes! ”
My eyes went to my white socks that are now dirty and my brain did a quick reboot
It will not be well with those guys!

I made a bad mistake by accepting to be Erica’s friend.
Immediately it’s break, she walks over to my seat
She is so different from other girls if I must confess, she has a plain face, she doesn’t really fuss over her appearance like most girls, I can almost even call her a tomboy, but when she smiles, her face lights up and I became entranced
” hey Keith, please help me with my maths assignment ”
She said with that beautiful smile plastered on her face.
I couldn’t dare to refuse, she sat down beside me even before I offered.
” alright”
It was actually a very simple equation, it may only look difficult to her because our mathematics teacher isn’t very good with explanations.
I made sure I explained the formula and she is actually a very fast learner, by the time I explained, she understood it and thanks me , she winks at me and heads to her seat before I notice she isn’t wearing shoes.

Am I crushing on Keith Merrick?

And who else would I have asked to help me with my maths assignment if not him.
In case you don’t know, most of the girls in this school have learned to fear me, others are even envying me because of Viktor’s sudden interest in me.
I notice that everyone are already preparing for thier practicals
Except me and my team!
I notice they weren’t even making any attempt to talk about it.
By the time the bell rings for the closing, all the students leaves the class for thier homes and the four of us were remaining, no one said a word and I couldn’t take it anymore.
” unlike some of you, I actually care about my grades, let’s talk ”
Sasha huffs in disgust and Tori only squeezes my arm tightly, Shanaya doesn’t say a word, she just moves over to me like a zombie clutching three different dolls in her hands, Sasha glares at me before catwalking to my seat.
” I blame that stupid teacher for putting me in a team with Vermins like you, if you want to talk , talk I’m listening!! ”
Sasha said chewing a bubble gum noisily.
” do you think I like being in a team with a deranged idiot like you, how are we going to get the materials for our practicals, should we give one of the teachers money to buy it for us ” I said angrily
” ugly duckling, we’re going to get our materials at Lagos market ”
Sasha said with finality, her eyes were filled with pure hatred, the angry way she was looking at me only scares Tori the more.
Shanaya squeezes one of the dolls, one scary doll that looks like Chucky and the doll sqeaks in a scary voice ‘no!!!!’
I almost jump back in fright but my mind registers Sasha’s words
” Lagos Market! When we’re not having a wedding, we’re only getting some beakers and some chemicals if I’m right! ”
Sasha laughed heartily and I became pissed
“you’re a poor sc-m bag that’s why you don’t understand how things are done in this school, everything is about presentation, as much as I hate to wear matching outfits with you guys, ugh it even makes my skin crawl, but we’re gonna have to get customized lab coats, gloves and all that, and we’re going to get it at Lagos market ”
Shanaya squeezes another doll, this one looks like Barbie, with its long blonde hair and pretty face and the doll squeaks ‘yes! ‘
In a chirpy doll voice.
Is Shanaya dumb?
Is that the reason why she always have her dolls with her.
My brain calculated all what Sasha listed, it’s going to cost me a lot of money and we need to submit our practicals on Monday
” um….. do I need to come with you guys…. I.. Mean what if we.. Um… Give the money to one of us the money to buy it for us.. ..
Sasha’s angry brown eyes made Tori falter on her words
” I’m no ones slave, if we can’t go together then forget it, you fat pumpkin ”
It was a reflex action, I slap Sasha on the face and she stares at me in shock
” call her a fat pumpkin one more time and I’ll beat you up, cut up your hair and strangle you with it ”
She blinked rapidly and I can see a red welt forming on her tender cheek, her eyes were filled with anger
Perfect!
She raised her hand to slap me but I dodged the slap, we lunged at each other.
Glaring angrily, the two of us trying to bring ourselves down but I’m damn stronger than her, I push her down and I watch with smug satisfaction as she falls down flat on the floor.
I roll my eyes at her,
” I’m going to make you pay… For.. This ”
She gritted out between her teeth, her voice trembling with anger
Duh! I’m only waiting for the opportunity for us to meet outside, I’ll disfigure her face.
Tori kneels down on the floor in tears
” please don’t fight because of me…, it’s all my fault, I’m sorry Sasha…
Tori says and drags Sasha to her feet, Sasha glares at her coldly and dusts her hands as if Tori infected her hands with some kind of virus.
This girl is falling my hand
Why is she apologizing to her !
Shanaya continues to make weird faces at me
If I must confess Shanaya is really scary.

We managed to get into an agreement without any more fights, I know Sasha is planning something with the way she suddenly became quiet, but the look in her eyes told me everything I need to know.
We concluded to meet at ôshódi( instead of Lagos market ) tommorow which happens to be a Saturday, well meet at the nearest bus-stop to the school.
” stay away from him ”
Sasha murmurs softly that I have to strain my ears to hear
” who ”
” Keith Merrick, he is mine and I don’t joke with what is mine, I’m not a vagabond that fights like you but I have several ways of dealing with people like you, just because you pushed me to the ground doesn’t mean you have won, I’ll ruin your life Erica and I mean it! ”
She said angrily
” I’ll love to see you try”
I said with an angry look of my own.

I scan everywhere but I can’t find my shoes
My mom is going to kill me!
How am I going to explain the loss of my shoes to her!
I sit down on the floor dejectedly!
I raised my head and guess who I saw walking towards me with a pair of shoes?
