The cool weather of the night had some gentle breeze blowing at DeMar. One could see energy bulbs illuminating from Nelson’s house to the exterior part where Raina and Crucifix walked side by side like best friends, heading towards the street. The sixteen year old was still on her purple bumshort and crop-top. Reflection of light bulbs had the shape of her pant visible to the eyes through the bumshort. While Crucifix wore a knicker and a polo shirt. The sound of their sluggish footsteps could barely be heard by anyone.

“So, you now have a phone.” Raina broke the silence.

“Yes!” Crucifix replied joyfully. “And you’re the first person I stored her number.” he smiled to see the girl smiling too.

“I guess the next person will be Margret.” Raina looked at him to see his reaction.

“You’re probably right. She asked me of it today.”

Bemused, Raina stopped. “She did?” she w¡dened her eyes, holding the urge of jealousy.

“Yeah, though for our team Whatsapp group.” Crucifix sadly lowered his voice.

Both became quiet. The tranquility generated a new thought into their heads, therefore they were both thinking about the same thing; the interrupted mood when Raina wanted to k-s him in,side the room. However, the lingering of the tranquility had brought the sound of their footsteps to any nearby ear like Raina’s mother who watched the two from upstairs through a window. The woman couldn’t help but to think that her daughter was having an affair with Crucifix.

“Listen, Cross.” Raina began looking up at him. “I’m sorry about what wanted to happen in the room. That was stupid of me.” she concluded, lowering her head and waiting to hear his response, but she didn’t. So she stopped and looked up at him again. That also made Crucifix to stop and returned the gaze, though with a broad smile on his face. Raina joined him in smiling too even though she didn’t know why the young boy exposed his thirty-two. Suddenly, the air passages in her lungs became narrow due to inflammation and tightening of the muscles around the small airways. Therefore, breathing became difficult for her. Only then did she remember that she was asthmatic and wasn’t with her inhaler! It’s in,side her school bag. Oh, no, very embarrassing!!

The smile vanished from her face followed by Crucifix’. She was beginning to choke to death, trying to fall on the ground but Crucifix caught her in his arms like a mother about to br–stfeed her baby. Stunned, Raina saw him bringing out the inhaler from his pocket and placed it in her nose. What the hell?! How did he get the inhaler?? How did he even know she was asthmatic? These are questions that ran through Raina’s mind. Nevertheless, quickly, she supported the inhaler with her hands and began to take a deep breath from it.

“Take it easy, Raina. I got you.” Crucifix assured her. One of his hands rested behind her while the other wrapped across her abdomen.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nelson couldn’t believe the drama from the window! So she waited patiently to know the end of it.

Raina has regained her breath and strength so Crucifix gradually pulled her up in a way both stared at each other speechlessly. Meanwhile, Crucifix’ hand never left her back neither did the other hand left her w–st. Oh, what a r-mantic posture. As the gaze lingered, Raina began to shed tears.

“How did you know? I mean where did you…”

“Sshhh..” Crucifix placed a finger across her limbs.

It was not just an atmosphere of r-mance, but love too as their eyeballs fixed at each other’s at a close range. Crucifix’ attractive afro seemed to also participate on the staring contest, tempting Raina to touch them and eventually k-s the suddenly appeared handsome dude. Already her oestrogen had activated, rushing down to her s–xual organ. Her subsequent behaviour would be as a result of her body chemistry which had gotten to the peak for her to explode and explore it. So gradually, she began to bring her l-ips closer for a soft k-s as a result of the butterflies that had woken up in her stomach. Finally, she stretched up on her toes and k-sed him with her eyes closed thereby rolling down some tears from one of the eyes. Awww.. the poor girl was in love, but, should I say with the wrong person? Ah!

Nonetheless, that was Crucifix’ first k-s even though he didn’t reciprocate much, but wasn’t Raina’s first k-s. Whoa, this simply means she has a love-life story she hasn’t spoken to anymore about.

“I have to be on my way now, Raina.” Crucifix said after the k-s. He stepped a away from her immediately.

“Yes, of course.” She replied, stepping away too.

“Bye.” Both said at the same time.

Raina flung her butt back into the house. Just at the door of the sitting room, she saw her mother staring at her beside a cushion. The look on her eyes let Raina understand that she saw everything that happened outside. So she swallowed hærd, twisting her finger fearfully.

“I thought you said both of you aren’t dating, Raina.” Mrs. Nelson said.

Raina kept quiet.

“Raina?” The mother took a step forward.

“We’re not, mum.” she found her voice “I think I’m just beginning to.. to..”

“Love him?” the mother completed the sentence.

Raina remain quiet. Tears had already engulfed her eyes. To her surprise, the mother hugged her warmly, rubbing her back gently too.

“Is okay, sweetheart. I think he’s a good boy. But how did he know about your sickness?” the mother asked softly.

“I don’t know, mother. Sometimes, I just feel like he’s in my head.” Raina responded, letting the tears out once more..

The next day at school, just before school would dismiss, one could see Alice and Rose seated on a love-garden with an ornamental tree at the centre. Both wore jeans with white canvases, looking classic. Transparent eyeglasses on Rose’s eyes could tell. Just then, Ken bounced around like a big boy. He wore a bogus old-school jean and shirt with large chain on his neck.

“Kenny!” Rose rejoiced when she saw him. She practically stood up and k-ses him.

“What’s up, babe.” Ken car–sed her cheek. “I sighted you from over there, so I came over here to get it over with, baby.” he added hilariously.

Rose laughed!

“See you later, baby girl.” Ken bounced out again as Rose admired him lustfully.

“Girl!” Alice brought her mind back to herself.

Ken was Rose’s boyfriend and best friend to Caleb. Now you can tell that he’s the one who told Caleb about the unknown person dropping packages at Margret’s doorstep. But who told Ken about it? You know the answer. Rose did! Oh, no, this kind of thing can break people’s friendsh¡p. Notwithstanding, Margret arrived to the midst of the two girls who were still upset with her. In her hands were two textbooks. She stood before them.

“Come on, girls. You can’t keep ignoring me because I chose an option suitable to me. For crying out loud, this is school. We’re here to learn.” Margret lamented.

“Bet we shall beat your team hands down.” Alice challenged.

“Fair enough. Are we good now?”

“We’re always good, Margret.” A voice came from behind.

She turned to see Crucifix, so she rolled her eyes exhaustively. “What do you want?” she asked offensively too.

“You Margret. I want you. You’re my complete, my half and my ribs.”

She hissed and turned to her friends. “Please, can we go in,side.” she requested. They headed out but Crucifix voice stopped Margret.

“I came to give you my number to add me on Whatsapp group.” he had said.

She exhaled. “Call it.” She requested as she was bringing out her phone. Crucifix approached closer. As he was calling the number, he stared at the girl’s snickers only to be caught by her.

“Why are staring at my shoes?!” Margret fired.

Why? Oh, she didn’t know why. Crucifix bought the shoes and dropped it at her doorsteps too with a r-mantic note. How could she know about that when she believed the boy was worthless and useless?

“I’m sorry.” Crucifix politely apologized and walked away sadly. Yet, Margret couldn’t take his eyes off him. Of course there was something about him she couldn’t write home about. At the same time, she sighted Lucy stopping Crucifix on his way. Their posture seemed suspicious, so she needed to hear their conversation. She took a few steps closer with her eyes on her phone but her ears got their frequency.

“Listen to one of my points about the mind being better than the brain.” Lucy began, grinning happily.

Crucifix smiled as he listened.

“Brain is only the central organ of the human nervous system. But mind? It is a faculty that manifests itself in mental phenomena such as perception, thinking, sænsati0n, reasonings, memory, etc. If mind can manifest all this, then what is life without the mind?” she presented.

“Good job, Lucy.” Crucifix complimented her.

“Thank you.” Suddenly, the girl’s mood changed. She swallowed hærd and looked straight into Crucifix’ eyes. “Cross, I wouldn’t want you to lie to me. You’re defending the mind against the brain for a reason. Thinking about how you quoted exactly what was in my mind the first day you came to school still baffles me. Yes, i admit it shamelessly; I’m crushing on Mr Henry and I was planning to masturbate that day. So tell me, how did you know? Are you a mind reader?”

The question did not only surprise Crucifix,it also sent Margret to the mad-land; she totally went crazy hearing it. “Lucy might be correct.” she began to think. “Could it be Crucifix has been reading my mind? Could it be he’s the one that… oh, no, it can’t be him. He can’t afford those things. It’s not possible.” She concluded, waiting to hear Crucifix’ reply. That would give her the conclusive answer she anticipated.

Crucifix, on the other hand, remained mute. Judging from Lucy’s sincerely, he wanted to tell her the truth. So he said, “Lucy, I…”

“Hey, Cross” Emmanuel, who just arrived, interrupted him. “There’s a girl looking for you?” he said.

“A girl?” Crucifix wondered who that might be. Already, Lucy had excused herself while Crucifix and Emmanuel headed away. Relentlessly, Margret followed them from behind unnoticed. She hid behind a tree when Crucifix got to a Lexus. In her two eyes, the back door opened and he entered. She could see a blur image of a young girl smiling sheepishly at Crucifix until the car drove off. Jeez! Her heart accelerated! She didn’t know how she was feeling anymore. Her emotion changed to what she couldn’t understand. “God, what’s going on? Am I actually feeling Jealous?” she thought and thought.

Yes, girl! You’re falling in love with the least person you expected.

“Oh no!” She hurried out from the tree.

in,side the Lexus, one could see Raina seated at the back seat with Crucifix.

“I can’t believe you came to pick me.” Crucifix told her.

“Are you complaining?” she asked him.

“No, not at all. I really appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome.”

Both went silent, grinning from ear to ear. Suddenly, Raina looked at him and said, “Cross, can I stop by at your place this weekend to grab dinner with you and Papa Geb?”

Oh, no, Crucifix didn’t like the direction where both of them were heading. But he was forced to say, “Of course, Raina.”

The girl smiled and held his hand…

Margret boarded a cab home. She didn’t know what to think. Her mind and her emotion played the same song but were wiggling it differently.

She barged into their house frustrated but couldn’t believe who she saw; her foster parents! Mr and Mrs. Adams.

“Mummy! Daddy!!” she ran to them at the cushion and hugged them happily. Mama Eda could be seen at a corner grinning amusingly too.

“Look at my girl! She’s all grown up!” Mrs. Adams weighed her daughter physically.

Margret seated in between them. “Why didn’t you guys tell me you were coming back?”

“Who are you calling guys, Maggie?” The father looked at her.

“You guys of course.” She stood up, standing before the father. “You’re my G, Dad” she grabbed his hand to shake it forcefully. The father couldn’t help but to laugh. He stood up.

“Where are you going Dad?” Margret asked.

“To see a business partner. Will be back.” he took his car keys.

“I’m following you.” Margret followed him immediately, ignoring her mother’s objections. She was really happy, forgetting her emotions and thoughts.

Both drove straight to DeMar. You wouldn’t believe the compound they pulled over; Mr Nelson’s!! When they came down from the infinity, Margret first saw the Lexus that carried Crucifix from school but didn’t read much meaning into it because any person can have such a car.

Notwithstanding, they entered into the living room where Mr Nelson and Adams hugged each other happily.

“Welcome, Mr Adams” Mrs. Nelson greeted from a corner.

“Thank you, chairlady.” he replied while they laughed.

“This must be your daughter.” she pointed at Margret who had also greeted.

“Yes”

“Raina!” Mrs Nelson called.

The girl ran down from a staircase and greeted the visitors immediately. Her eyes caught with Margaret’s.

“This is Mr. Adams daughter. They are family friends. You can take her upstairs.” Mrs Nelson instructed Raina.

“Okay, Mum?” she replied. “Come on, let’s go up.” she gestured at Margret. She took her to her room. Unfortunately, Margret saw the drawing of the red gown on her wall. She stared at it thinking critically. Oh, no, this isn’t gonna go well…..
