The miracle I need episode 99

#THE_MIRACLE_I_NEED

EPISODE 99 (FINAL)

Kathleen had a lot on her mind as she walked into her office, and just waved at Dave distractedly before sitting down. He was in love with her? Of course she knew he liked her, but it was like hearing those words from him had taken a lot of burden from her shoulders, and now she felt light. She felt at peace with herself after hearing that. What had been even more satisfying was the fact that he had also seemed surprised by his confession. A smile tugged at the corners of herl-ips as she thought of all he had said.

“This one you’re smiling like this, this kind of early morning.” Rosy said with a teasing smile as she stood in front of Kathleen’s desk, ma-king her wonder when they bec@m£ friends that had such conversations.

“What?” Kathleen asked, trying not to sound rude.

“Calm down na. Abi we dey quarel? (Are we quarrelling?)” Rosy asked, flashing her a smile.

“Na wa o! (Wonders shall never cease!)” Dave exclaimed from where he was seated as he watched Rosy. He had no doubt that she was trying to get on Kathleen’s good side now that she knew Kathleen was being open about d@t!ngthe boss.

Rosy turned to look at Dave and hissed at him, before turning to Kathleen once again, “Sorry for everything I said in the past. Abeg nuh vex.” She said apologetically.

“I’ve heard you. plea-se excuse me.” Kathleen said as she picked up her phone and left the office. It was time to give Chuka a call. She needed him to tell her the next step to take now that things had gotten to this level. She walked into the convenience room and entered one of the toilet stalls before dialing Chuka’s number.

“This one you’re calling me this early morning, today is going to be very good!” Chuka exclaimed the moment he received the call, ma-king Kathleen laugh.

“It’s been a while since we both talked. Good morning. How’re you?” She asked with a wi-de smile.

“I’m okay. And from the way you’re laughing I know you’re okay and things are going well with s£nior man, abi?” Chuka asked ma-king her smile wi-den even more.

“Yeah, can we see today? I need to talk to you,” she pleaded.

“Well, today is actually my birthday and I didn’t have much plans, how about we go out after you close from work to celebr@te my birthday, and then we can talk?”

“Wow! Happy birthday!”

“Thank you. You can bring a friend along if you have any fine friend like you.” Chuka added, ma-king her laugh.

“I can really bring a friend?” She asked, thinking of Sharon. It would be good to have them both hear her out, and also good for Sharon who she knew would probably still be feeling upset about her break up with her married man friend.

“Yes. But only on the condition that she is fine o. I have told you.” He repeated.

“Okay then. But can we meet at the Island? I don’t want to have to return home in the dark, and maybe you can come and greet my mother since she has been wanting to know you.” Kathleen suggested.

“That is even better since I stay on the Island too.” Chuka said.

“Okay then. See you after work.” Kathleen said before hanging up. At least with Sharon’s pres£nce there, Pete wouldn’t feel jealous about her meeting up with another guy. Or maybe she should inform him that she was going out with Chuka and Sharon to celebr@te his birthday? He would probably be in the middle of a seminar or something by now, so calling or s£nding a text would probably just distract him, she thought with a shake of her head as she returned to her office.
**********

He was in love with her? Pete kept asking himself over and over again as he sat on the conference table while the others deliberated on the t©pic being discussed. How come he hadn’t realized it earlier? A p@rt of him couldn’t believe he had fallen in love with her un-der such a short time, but then another p@rt of him wasn’t very surprised about it. Kathleen was a very unique person after all, and she made him happy even when she was being difficult and annoying, so it was un-derstandable that he had fallen in loving her.

The question now was how was he going to convince the stubborn lady that he loved her and wanted her for herself, and not as a replacement for Laura? Was he being too fast? Too forward? He was just a person who prefers to go for what he wants the moment he finds it. That was the same reason he had gotten married at a very early age. He had met Laura when he was just twenty-four going on twenty-five, and the moment he had realized he was in love with her, he had married her. He didn’t like to waste his time. He was the type who preferred getting to find out more about his p@rtner in marriage rather than waste so much time on courtsh!p, since he was very un-derstanding of people and believed in the ability of love to conquer every other thing.

Maybe it was too early to decide, but he knew without doubt that he wanted to marry her. She was beautiful, intelligent, witty, funny, stubborn, possessive, annoying, god-fearing, crazy, razz, judgemental, S-xy, empathetic, and every other thing he needed to keep him sane and insane at the same time. He wanted to build a family with her. He wanted to come home to her in the evenings, and see her standing over his pot in the morning. He wanted to make her speechless Everytime he k!$$£d her, and he…

“Mr Howells?” The chairman interrupted his thought again..

“Yes?”

“If you’re going to keep zoning out like this every day during the meetings, I wonder why you are here for the conference in the first place.” The chairman said in disapproval.

“I’m sorry. I just have a lot going on at the moment, so it’s h@rd to focus.” Pete said honestly, while the others at the table looked at him.

“It’s a woman problem, isn’t it?” One of the men asked, while the others looked at him in interest, including Clara who was seated at one end of the hall with other secretaries taking note.

“It is obvious it is a relationsh!pproblem.” The only lady amongst them observed with a chuckle.

“If it’s serious you can just leave so you can sort it out instead of just staying here and doing nothing.” The vice chairman said.

“I can?” Pete asked a little too eagerly, ma-king everyone in the conference hall laugh.

“Yes you can. Your secretary will have to remain though, so she can take notes on your behalf and relate everything to you.” The Chairman said, ma-king Pete turn to look at Clara who was looking at him with a blank expression.

“plea-se excuse us for a moment.” Pete said, and signaled for Clara to step outside with him.

“I know you’re really good at your job, and I’ve been planning to fire you after the stunts you’ve pu-ll-ed lately. But I’m willing to let it go if you stay back and repres£nt me. I will give you a raise,” He added.

Clara was wise enough to know when she has lost a battle, and this time it was clear to her that she had used her own hand to give the man she wanted for herself, a wife. It wasn’t like she had much of a choice anyway. It was either accept his offer or lose her job. And God knows she wasn’t looking forward to moving around Lagos with her CV at this point in her life.

“I will stay.” She accepted and Pete smiled at her in gratitude before returning in,side the conference hall.

“She will stay back and repres£nt me.” Pete announced.

“Alright. Go and take care of your business. Just make sure you s£nd us a wedding invitation when it is time.” The lady amongst them said, and the rest nodded in agreement while giving Pete a knowing smile as he hurried out of the hall. He couldn’t wait to meet her and talk some s-en-se into her thick skull, and then maybe he could look into her eyes and tell her how much he loved her.
************

Although Kimberly was still feeling very excited about Eric’s confession of love to her, but right now she felt very nervous as she pu-ll-ed up in front of Tunde’s house and blared the horn for the security man to open the gate.

She had no idea why the while thing was ma-king her feel very uncomfortable and uneasy, but she only prayed that she wouldn’t embarr@ss herself. In fact, as a matter of fact, that was the reason she had chos£n to wear a pin down b©dysuit t©p on her jeans. She was trying to be extra careful in case of anything. At least before she finished taking off her jeans, and the pins of the b©dysuit, she should have returned to her s-en-ses.

She couldn’t help admiring the beauty of the estate and the mansion which she could clearly see throu-gh the gate. Tunde Obasan was obviously a very wealthy person and on an entirely different level from her. There was rich, and then there was stupidly rich. And that was what his mansion and the exotic cars parked in the compound scre-med as she drove in throu-gh the gate which had now been opened.

For someone who liked to live a low-key life, he seemed to like his cars, she thought and tried to imagine Eric driving one of those. She smiled at the thought. It would really suit him since he seemed to be of a very high taste. Perhaps she could get him a car? If the deal with Tunde pu-ll-ed throu-gh, she would use p@rt of the money to get him a befitting car of his choice. Kimberly decided as she stepped out of the car and headed for the front door.

The door was opened before she could ring the doorbell and Aunty Martha stood there with a polite smile on her face, “Welcome.” She said as she ushered her in.

“Oga said I should ask you to make yourself comfortable before he joins you. What can I offer you?” Aunty Martha asked as she led her to the living room where she sat down.

“Thank you. I’m okay.” Kimberly said with a polite smile.

“No na. It’s your first time here. Just tell me anything you want. Even if it’s food I will make it quic-kly.” Aunty Martha promised, ma-king Kimberly give her a genuine smile now.

“I’m really okay. Thank you.” Aunty Martha looked like she was going to argue, but at the last moment decided to let her be, so she nodded and excused herself, leaving Kimberly by herself.

If Kimberly had thought the exterior of the mansion spoke of wealth, then she had been kidding herself, Kimberly thought as she looked around the house. She couldn’t help falling in love with the cl@ssy but simple interior decor. There were few things she could t©uçh here and there, but overall she liked the sugar white background painting, but what drew her in the most was the 3D forest walkway wallpaper at one end of the living room. The green forest was made of trees with pink flowers and green shrubs. And the interior designer had set every other furniture and item in the house with those colors. It made the house seem like something out of a fairytale. It didn’t look all that masculine.

“You love it, don’t you?” Chuka asked from the staircase as he stared at her admiring the wallpaper. de-ep down he prayed she would p@ss this stupid test Eric had set for her. He couldn’t blame Eric though, seeing how heartbroken he had been after the wh0le Amaka saga. He was only trying to look out for himself, and that was un-derstandable.

Kimberly managed to drag her eyes away from the wallpaper as she turned to look at Chuka who was dressed in a matching designer bu-tton down shi-t and three quarter short, “Yes I do. Good morning.” She greeted with a polite smile.

“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for too long?” Chuka asked as he walked towards her.

“Not at all. I’m a bit early.” Kimberly said, c0cking her head toward the large wall clock which was hanging directly above the large Samsung TV set.

“Early is good. So tell me what you think about the house.” He said as he waved a hand for her to sit down, and then sat down on one of the green sofas.

“It’s lovely. I think whoever designed it is brilliant.” She said ma-king Chuka chuckle.

“I actually designed it myself.” He said ma-king her mouth drop in surprise.

“You’re joking, right?”

“No I’m not. I and my sister. We both fixed the place.” He said with a grin.

“Wow! Maybe you both should be interior designers.” She said ma-king him chuckle.

“And take your job from you? I don’t think so. Besides it’s easy to do anything these days when we have pictures and videos all over the internet.” Chuka pointed out.

“Yeah. I suppose you have a point. I can only hope not everyone pays attention to the internet else I would be out of job.” She said, ma-king Chuka smile again.

“Tell me something though, is there something you would love to fix around here?” He asked, trying to get her to relax and let down her guard, while at the same time wondering how much she would change if she eventually moves in here as Eric’s wife.

“Maybe a couple of things here and there. But overall the interior is really impressive. I actually thought a professional did this.” She said ma-king him chuckle again.

“Well, I’m sure my wife would want to make some changes when I eventually get married.” He said looking around the house fondly.

“What about Mimi? How come I don’t see her around?” Kimberly asked, trying to change the subject.

“Oh! She doesn’t live here with me. She is in the family house. I need my privacy, you know?” He asked as he stood up from where he was seated and walked closer to where Kimberly was.

“I feel like I’m straining my voice talking to you from the distance.” He explained as he sat down beside her and moved closer to her, while Kimberly adjusted uncomfortably. What did he want? Why was he coming so close? He knew she was married to his friend Eric, right? Eric! She thought and quic-kly stood up. He had said he loved her, and the last thing she wanted was letting her weakness get the best of her today. She wasn’t going to embarr@ss herself or Eric by doing something shameful with someone he called his boss and friend. Or I should just take a quic-ky with him? He’s not bad anyway…
