Audrey ran out of the class to the school’s bookshop; it was time for her next class and she needed a pen. “Please ma I need a pen” Audrey said to the woman who sat at the bookshop. She was trying to catch her breath from the race she did. Without wasting time, the woman quickly attended to her and she ran back to class. Thanks to God, the teacher wasn’t back yet. She walked straight to the back of the class; every eye was on her as she approached a group of girls. Stretching out the pen to one of them who seemed to be the leader of the group “Senior Dora, I got the pen” she said. “Oops! my bad! I have my pen with me already. I shouldn’t have send you” Dora said while they all burst into laughter. “O….Ok, so can I go to my class please, I have my class now” Audrey said in a pleading voice. “No! Not yet! you still have to get us snacks” Dora said. “Bu…But I told you I’m hav….” before she could finish, one of Dora’s girl slapped her lightly. “Oh common girl! I was expecting you to sound her twice” Dora said. “Audrey, I don’t want to raise my voice this morning, go to that shop and get each one of us snacks and if you come back late, you know what I’m capable of right?” Dora said firmly. “Mo…..Money for the snacks” Audrey stammered with tears dropping rapidly on her cheek. “Money, Money! are you sick or what…you know that’s your job; take money from you and get out of my class, Idiot! Dora shouted and Audrey walked out of the class sluggishly; everyone burst into laughter.
Audrey came back with the snacks, but there was a teacher in the class already. As she was about to turn back and leave, Dora made signal to her to come in which she hesitated but later took the courage to enter the class. “What do want in my class?” the teacher asked. “I………I came here to give Senior Dora her snacks” she replied. “What nonsense is that……Is it break yet? Dora how dare you to send someone snacks when you know you’re not on break yet? The teacher said angrily. Dora quickly stood up and said “I swear Ma’am, I didn’t send her anything; I don’t even eat snacks”. Audrey was shocked and terrified. “But you a…..” she tried to talk but she couldn’t find her voice. Audrey your classmates are in the class right now and you are here delivering snacks, besides she didn’t send you the snack; so tell me what exactly are you doing in my class?” The teacher asked, but Audrey was unable to defend herself. “You know what? Go and stand in front of my office until I finish!” the teacher commanded. Audrey was left with no option than to walked out of the class, looking behind at Dora and her friends giggling. On her way to the office, she saw a trash bin and threw the snacks in it angrily; she had missed her class and was going to receive another punishment.
Later that day, she was asked to clean the teacher’s office and staff’s toilet. Lecture was over for the day, while other students were at home, Audrey was still busy receiving her punishment. While cleaning the toilets, Dora and her friends walked in, “Who do we have here? Wow! I can’t believe my puppet is here working alone and I couldn’t help her”” Dora said mockingly while her friends burst into laughter. Anyways you know what? take this two books Audrey hesitated to collect them from her, just as she was about to take them from her, Dora dropped them on the floor for her to pick up. Without telling her what to do, she bent down to pickup the books “Wh. . . .what’s this for?” she stuttered. “You know that’s a rhetorical question. Anyways, I just fixed my nails; you know I couldn’t write anything down today. It’s just six pages; make sure you complete them before tomorrow morning” Dora said as tears filled Audrey’s eyes. “Oh! Oh! She is crying, my puppet is crying; please don’t make me cry” Dora teased while her friends couldn’t stop laughing. She moved closer to Audrey slowly, Audrey moved back from her quickly. “If you take one more step Audrey……” Dora said as she moved closer to her with bold steps. She placed her hand on Audrey’s cheek, trying to wipe her tears slowly, suddenly she grabbed her cheek so hærd which made Audrey to wince out of pain. “You dummy! What were you trying to do this morning? You want to tell the teacher that I sent you snacks, don’t you think before you act? Oh I forgot you are so dumb and stupid!” She released her cheek and pushed her backward.
Audrey fell down to the floor, unknown to her that she was sitting in the water that was on the floor, her uniform got soaked immediately. “Eww! You stink right now, I think you really got some luck, look at my books!” Audrey saw the books near the water; she quickly picked them up before they could get w-t. “You know I will kill you if anything happens to my books; first thing tomorrow morning, submit them to me, do you get it?” Audrey nodded “Idiot! Can’t you open your mouth” Dora scre-med at her. “Yes I will” Audrey replied with tears. “Good girl” Dora said with an evil smile, both her and her friends walked out of the toilet. Tears streaming down her face rapidly, Audrey looked at her w-t uniform, she recalled that she still had other works to do before going home. She scre-med out as tears dropped down her face. She forced herself up to continue working. As she tried to stand up from the water, Dora’s notebooks fell from her into the water. Her eyes almost popped out from shock, she quickly grabbed the books, but twas already too late and they were all soaked. She stared at the books as more tears engulfed her. . . .
Later that night, Audrey lay down on her bed; she was having her menstrual pain. She stared at Dora’s w-t books on the table; she knew there was nothing to be done anymore, all she had to do was to get ready for Dora’s punishment tomorrow but her menstrual period was not helping her. She was just rolling all over her bed in pains when she suddenly heard her mum scre-ming. She forced herself up and went out of the room holding her stomach. Getting to the living room, there was her Dad beating her mum up with belt. “Dad….” she called out of pains with tears already dripping. “Audrey, go in,side please…..go back to yo…..” Her mum was interrupted with another stroke of belt landing on her. Audrey forced herself to move closer to her Dad in order to stop him from beating her mum, but too late; her dad hit her also with the belt. Audrey gro-ned out in pain as the belt landed on her back. Seeing this, her mum scre-med, grabbing Audrey’s Dad she bite him hærd on his abs without letting go. Her Dad scre-med as he flogged her more to release him from the bitting but she wasn’t ready to release him. The more he hit her, the more she bit him. Audrey couldn’t help but pass out as everything went black on her . . . .”
Audrey sat alone in her room trying to complete Dora’s work which was to be submitted to her the next day. She was in the middle of this when she suddenly heard her mum’s voice. “You are so evil, you’re so evil to me; I don’t care about myself but don’t you think about our daughter? Don’t you think about Audrey; I know you don’t love me, but at least show love to our daughter” Her mum pleaded. “I should show love to whom? You mean that bastard you call daughter?” Her father lashed out. “How dare you call my daughter a bastard, she is your blood for goodness sake; how can you call her that?” Her mum’s voice was so high. “You know I’m late for work, you this woman, stay away from me” Her Dad warned. “No I won’t until you get to that room and apologize on how you treated our daughter yesterday” her pmum said. “You must be sick in your brain! I’m warning you woman; allow me to go to my work” Her Dad warned again. Audrey quickly stood up from her reading table, she threw herself on her bed. Before she could hid herself under her blanket and pillows to cover her ears, her mum had started scre-ming from her Dad’s beating. She tried to cover her ears from the scre-ming but the more she tried, the louder the scre-ming increased. She couldn’t help but to break down in tears under her pillow.
Audrey was unable to make it to school the next day; she rested for a day. Getting to school the next day, she alighted from the taxi. Staring at the school building and the burden waiting for her already, she took a deep breath and summoned courage to walk in. Just as she expected, there was Dora and her friends waiting for her. Walking slowly towards them she quickly looked around to see if there was any teacher for rescue, but no one was around them. She took another deep breath and moved closer to them. Dora stared at her in rage, “Why were you not in school yesterday?” she asked. Audrey was about replying her when some students suddenly passed in between them. “I was not feeling well yesterday” she quickly replied before Dora would slap her.” So you also get sick? Interesting! . . . .and where are my books?” she asked with her hands stretched forward to collect them. Without wasting any minute, Audrey gave her the books which were looking so rough because of the water. The books looked different from the ones she gave her. Dora’s mouth was wide open for a while “Audrey, don’t let me lose my morals, are these my books. . . I mean are you sure these were the books I gave you two days ago?” she asked firmly. “Move closer to me, I say move closer” Dora commanded holding Audrey by her uniform, she dragged her closer. Audrey began to shed tears. “Now tell me are these the books I gave you? what happened to my books?” Dora demanded angrily. I. . . I. . . I . . fell in,side the water that day, I’m sorry Senior Do. . .” She couldn’t finish her statement before Dora slapped her twice on her cheek. Pulling her by her hair, she dragged her to the back of the building to avoid getting caught by their teachers. Her friends followed behind with their evil smiles on them.
Getting to the back of the building, Dora made her kneel down with her hands up above her head; hitting her with a piece of stick on her two arms, Audrey winced out in pain. “If you dare scre-m I will kill you right here, you are so stupid for not looking after my books. Oh! you could look after your health but you couldn’t look after my books” Dora lashed out as she kept hitting her hærd till Audrey’s arm turned reddish. After about fifteen minutes of satisfying herself she finally let her go. “You can stand up and go to your class, when the school is over come back to this place you’ll meet me here, let’s go girls” she said and walked away with her friends. Audrey tried hærd to fight back her tears but they were just too heavy for her as she broke down crying bitterly. She just sat on the floor and covered her face with her palms, weeping bitterly.

Standing at the front of the cab starring at her nightmare Dora, she was just terrified. She was about entering her cab when she heard her name. “Audrey” It was Dora who had seen her and called out. “Is that you Audrey?” she asked with a smile walking towards Audrey. Audrey wanted to get into the car but she couldn’t move her legs as Dora approached her slowly. She started feeling so cold and she was unable to move. She forced herself h-rder to enter the car but as she did Dora stopped her. She grabbed Audrey’s hands, and pulled her making her stand facing her. “Are you running from me or what? People might think something different if they see you acting like this; . . . . don’t you miss me, cause I do sweety. . .”
