IN THE KITCHEN
Kira POV
I was welcomed by the smell of bacon and egg in the air when I walked into the kitchen. Darius was in there with an apron on him
“Morning Darius” I greeted him cheerfully as I moved to the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water
“I like your look and mood this morning” Darius said as he wipe his hands clean on a napkin
“Tell me what’s behind this bright smile and happy look this morning”
“Come on Darius…stop making it sound as if I never smiled since I got here”
“Of course you smiled..but not as bright as this one you have on now”
“Silly” I giggled
I served myself some bacon and egg
“Seems like you’re accustomed to my cooking now”
“Yeah”
“So what do you plan to do today?”
“Read some books…what about you?”
“Gather woods for the fireplace… Winter is almost here…probably in a week time”
“But why gather wood when I can provide it?”
“No thanks Witch”
“Huh? Why?”
Darius leaned on the countertop,as he did, he leaned forward. Just slightly…His smile crooked and devilish.. He didn’t say anything and I just stared at him. Did he have to have those cute eyes they made it hærd for me to maintain my train of thought? Why is he looking at me this way? And why smiling a secret smile that seemed like he was in love..every minute that he leaned there made my mind want something entirely different. He searched my face while my gaze fell on his l-ips… Darius stared. Or was he actually going to k-ss me? No! I hiccupped at the thought of Darius l-ips on mine
“Sorry”
He said in a soft voice and I hiccupped again. I shouldn’t be having such thought but he caused it. Why stare at me that way..like he was flirting with his eyes
“Let me get you water”
“I..I..I have one here”
I pointed to the bottle on the countertop
“Oh drink up then” he said in a soft,husky voice.
“Don’t..don’t do this to me again, okay?” I said in a quiet voice
“Don’t do what to you?…I’m just standing here,enjoying the view…”
“That…you are not standing you were leaning to close like..you wanted to..”
“To what?” I looked up,my gaze attached itself to his l-ips..a smirk played on it
“Don’t flirt with me”
“Flirt?!” He chuckled
“I wasn’t flirting…I wanted to tell you that I do like to gather sticks myself without a witch help cause I wanna feel stressed”
Maybe I over reacted! I fixed my gaze on my plate
“You are the one trying to flirt… You actually think I was going to k-ss you like that… Look I know I’m handsome and I also know that I have s€×y l-ips…”
I definitely don’t want to talk about this..I’m so embarrassed! Especially now that the air around us seemed to have taken a shift to intimacy
“But your l-ips is also pretty and cute but not s€×y”
I glanced up at him. A devilish smile at the corner of his l-ips. He had been staring at mine too!
“That was the view I was talking about.. Your face and all”
“Hey Darius”
I raised my shoulder a little taller, a little straighter. Now the ball is in my court. So in a stronger voice I said
“How long have you noticed that I have a cute l-ips…how long have you been staring?”
“Just now…I look at it each time I look at your face..just like how am doing now”
He shrugged and pouted like a little child and I laughed
“Hey when are you going to call Kyle? Am sure your parents would have informed him that you called” He changed the topic
“I will do that when I finish eating”
“You’re done eating”
He nudged his head towards the plate in front of me. It was empty! I didn’t even notice my small meal was over
“Let’s go”
“Are you not going to eat?
“Am not hungry”
“You are never hungry Darius”
He dropped the plate into the sink. We both walked out of the kitchen.
“Do you remember where I dropped my cellphone?”
“Uhmmm..maybe you should check your room”
“Yeah”
Darius dashed into his room but came back with nothing
“I can’t find it”
I looked at him from head to toe
“Have I grown two heads?”
He asked
“No” i shook my head
“Your phone is in your pocket”
I pointed to his right Jean pocket
“Oh I didn’t even know it was in here!”
He brought out the phone from his pocket
“Here you go”
He dropped it on the couch beside me before he lay down on the couch opposite the one I sat on
“You want to sleep Darius?”
“I want to take a nap”
“Okay”
I swiped and clicked on the screen to connect with the Mumbai number Lana sent

IN KYLE BEDROOM
Kyle POV
I woke up to the loud pinging of my phone. I reached out for the device which was under the pillow next to the one I was resting on. I had left it there after having a long chat with Lana. She informed me that Kira called and I was glad to hear that Kira finally called home and I hoped that she reach out to me too since Lana sent my Mumbai number to her. I rubbed my sleepy eyes and I saw an unknown number displayed on the screen. It could be Kira! I switched on the lights at the snap of my fingers using my powers in the process. I swiped to accept the video call and then I scre-med when I saw Kira’s beautiful face on the screen
“Hello bad boy” she greeted with a bright smile on her face
“Hello My Red twin sister” she laughed
“It really nice to see you again…I mean.. I’m super excited to talk to you Kira!”
“Aww…do you miss me that much?”
“Yes of course! Zoe! Don’t you miss me too?”
“I do miss you…our arguments,your troubles…your sleep talks of love confessions” she giggled
“Do you always hear me confessing love in my sleep?”
“Yes..you do that almost every night”
“how do you manage to hear me?” I asked jokingly
“Oh! I forgot you are a witch! A red one at that!”
“Exactly…I can hear things from far if I want to”
“Yeah I can do that also”
“Guess you’ve learnt a lot of things from your master”
“Yeah a lot than I expected”
“So how is India?” I sighed
“India agrees with me..and the people around me have been good to me”
“Good to hear that Zach”
“What about you?”
“Am good”
“Where are you exactly?”
“Somewhere safe Zach”
“Where? Which country? Which state? Or which continent?”
“I don’t know Zach”
“How come you don’t know where you are? That impossible! Zoe”
“I don’t know the country, state,area or continent… All I know is that I’m safe here… As you can see I’m in a house..a good one”
She turned the camera away from her face and showed me the neatly decorated house
“And I’m relaxing on a nice couch” then I heard a small laugh – it wasn’t from Kira cause she was looking at me. Someone is with her!
“Who is there with you?”
“My protector”
“Who is your protector?”
“Who else?”
“Oh! That strange guy that abducted you”
“Exactly”
“You are living alone with a stranger! He is a man! You shouldn’t be alone with him”
“Zach stop that idea in your head”
“No..no..no Zoe I’m a guy and I know how hærd it is to control oneself whenever I’m alone with a girl…it damn hærd if she is so beautiful”
Kira laughed out loud.. Now she thinks am joking
“Oh Kyle you’re so funny…but i understand what you are trying to say even if you twisted the wh0le thing”
“I’m saying the truth.. You shouldn’t trust a total stranger Zoe”
“Darius is not a stranger to me Kyle – I’ve been with him since the last two months”
“And he didn’t make any advances?”
“Kyle!”
“What?!”
“Darius is a nice guy -”
“Just like what you said when Jace came to our school..but what happened with Jace?”
She didn’t respond
“Well I will tell you…Jace turned out to be Max Torres, a deceiver,a user,a liar. And he even denied knowing you – someone who doesn’t care about your feelings or emotions. I don’t mean to hurt you with my words but all saying is that you shouldn’t be quick to trust people”
“I..I..I understand you…what you’re trying to say Kyle”
“Thank goodness you understand me”
“Okay…I only called to say hi. Bye”
“Thank -”
She hang up before I completed my intended words

Darius POV
“Are you okay?”
I asked Kira who was staring at the phone in her hand
“Yes I’m fine”
She gave the phone back to me and walked towards the direction of her room. Kira was sad because of what Kyle had said to her..he shouldn’t have said those words to her like that when he was aware that anything about Jace or Max would hurt Kira. I dialed Kyle’s number but as a call not a video call. Kyle picked on the second ring
“Hello Kira.. I’m sorry for what I said the other time..I don’t mean to hurt you with my words”
I listened to Kyle apologize
“You should be more than sorry for what you said to your sister”
“Where is Kira?”
He asked in a stern voice
“Why are you the one talking to me?”
“You have no idea of what she’s been through just in the name of protecting herself! You don’t know how worried she used to be about everyone of you each passing day”
“We never asked you to take her away from us..you only decided that on your own..you are wrong if you think you are protecting her! Bring her back home and let protect her ourselves”
A loud growl reverberated from the back of my throat
“I won’t do that..I intend to keep her for a long time” I grounded
“You must be joking” he spat
“I’m not in for jokes Kyle! I mean business whenever it comes to protecting someone important and useful to the universe. Call Her anytime you are ready to talk like a gentleman without hurting her with your words”
I hang up the call before making my way into Kira’s bedroom
“Can I come in?”
I asked after knocking but got no response. I twisted the knob and slide into her room. I heard soft sobs coming from her bed. Kira was crying under the bed cover. I cleared my throat
“Are you crying because of what Kyle said to you?”
She didn’t reply
“You don’t have to take his words serious Kira”
I pulled at the cover but she held on tightly
“Listen Kira – I want you to know that -”
I paused – what should I say to her?
“He shouldn’t have talked to me like that”
She said amidst tears
“I was so happy to see him,so happy to talk to him but he ended up slapping me in the face with the talks of Max….I was only trying to tell him you are a good guy..and that you never made any advances to me..but Kyle doesn’t understand me”
“Sh sh…I understand you”
I removed the bed cover. Kira sat up gently and wiped her tears
“I know you were only trying to defend me”
She nodded
“Just forget what Kyle said to you okay?”
“Yes”
“Promise me you won’t cry about it anymore”
She nodded slowly
“In words Kira”
“I promise”
“Fine..I’ll go ahead and gather some sticks for the fireplace”
“I wanna come along Darius”
“What about reading books?”
“I will do that Later…I don’t want to be alone”
“Okay let’s go”
She climbed out of bed and put on her slippers
“Someone needs a ride?”
“What ride?”
“A ride on my back”
“No I can walk!”
“Yes I know you can walk”
Kira laughed
“Should I get water Darius?”
She asked when we stepped out of her room
“Yes..yes grab two bottles”
Kira disappeared. I made my way to the sitting room to grab the phone. Kira appeared again with two bottles of water in her hand
“Ready?”
“Yes”
She spread out her arms…I know what that means. Kira doesn’t want to use the door,she want us to disappear instead.
“Come on Darius”
“Okay..Witch”
She giggled as I hugged her and we varnished
