Segment 7
Leila
Damn! I’ve never been so nervous in my entire life, so nervous I can’t stop playing with my pen which I didn’t know why I brought along in the first place. Weird, I must say. The driver was an elderly man, probably old enough to be Bernice’s father and have eaten a lot of money, either from his youth or Heartcode was taking good care of him.
‘Are you comfortable back there Miss?’ He asked glancing over at me.
‘Yes, I’m fine, thank you.’
‘Am I allowed to say you are beautiful?’ He asked grinningly, I could see his face from the rare view mirror, he had thick dark brown beard and eyes. Ugly, if I should be more specific.
‘Thank you sir,’ I smiled. ‘Say,’ I shifted closer to his seat and held the headrest. ‘Are you married?’
‘Not really,’
‘My instinct was right. Why if I may ask?’
‘I was once married with three beautiful daughters, back then when I had everything,’ aha! I was right, he does have money….did. ‘They were my everything until I found out my wife, my life have been cheating on me before we even got engaged. Two of my daughters weren’t mine, one was but that one died due to some circ-mstances I don’t want to talk about.’
‘I’m sorry if I brought back memories,’
‘It’s okay.’
‘So, am I allowed to ask how you lost your wealth?’
‘When I said I had everything, I wasn’t talking about money. There comes some times in a man’s life where is family becomes his everything, his pride and joy. It broke me then and that is how I ended up a driver, anger and frustrated made me lose my job.’
‘I’m sorry,’ I apologized again, he must have really loved her but wait, I don’t care. ‘How long have you been driving for Heartcode?’
‘Ten,’
‘Wow,’ I breathe. ‘That’s almost as long as he have been singing,’
‘Not quite dear, that’s nothing as long as he have been singing. He have been singing since he was fifteen and now he’s thirty seven.’
‘Sir,’ I called chucklingly. ‘He’s thirty three.’ I corrected
‘That can’t be right,’ he said unsurely, itching the back of his head confusedly.
‘It is, I I know that because I remember vividly the day I was in my room thinking of how to shave my dad’s head when my late friend ran into my room squealing. She plopped on my bed and kept waving his pretty picture in my face. “Oh me God! This guy is so cute!” I squealed too, snatching her phone to get a closer look. I asked her who he was and she filled me in on the info, that he was a young rising star, one who made his debut two months earlier and was already climbing to the top. I remember shrieking at the top of my voice and going crazy and since then I have been licking the floor after him all my life. I was thirteen then.’
‘Wow, that was clear,’ he said laughingly. I blushed and chuckled nervously.
‘Please don’t tell him anything I just said, okay?’ He nodded. ‘Thank you.’
‘So, your friend died?’
‘Highschool, died after doing her nineteenth abortion.’
‘Ah! I see,’ he said lowly. ‘How did you meet Eric?’
‘Who’s Eric?’
‘Heartcode,’
‘Oh, I forgot that was his real name. As for how I met him, I haven’t.’
‘Then how come?’
‘Business base, nothing more,’ I said with a fake smile. ‘Regrettably.’ I added in my head. The rest of the conversation was lame, in conclusion, the man needs to die than living so miserably.
‘Here we are Miss Leila,’ he said smilingly as he opened my door for me. ‘Hope I drop you off later?’
‘We’ll see,’
‘Have a nice night, you are better than most girls have picked up.’ I frowned at that, that was harsh.
‘I thought I strictly told you that we are just business based? What do you mean by other ladies? Do I look like a call girl to you.’ I snapped.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that….’ I walked out on him, no one should see me like a wh-re, that’s an insult. I walked to the door, anger seething through me, no one should see me as one, I’m Leila Wellington!
‘Welcome Miss Leila,’ the lady at the door greeted with a slight bow. I didn’t reply her, just glared dagger at her. She quietly opened the door and led me in, she’s short with neon blue dyed hair. ‘I’m Kate, it’s nice to meet you.’
‘Don’t expect a nice reply from me, I was happy few minutes ago but now I feel like murdering someone and that person can be you.’
‘Really?’ She chuckled. ‘What happened?’
‘I feel like a call girl,’ I whined poutingly. She laughed and shook her head.
‘A woman with such style and class shouldn’t feel like one, as long as you know what you are here to do.’
‘Why am I here if I may ask?’
‘It’s not my place to tell, I’m sorry.’
‘It’s okay,’ I smiled, she’s nice.
‘Look on the bright side,’ she chirped. ‘I made you happy again!’
‘Almost,’ I smirked. She opened a glass door, revealing a beautiful sky blue and burnt orange painted room. The furniture were white along with the electronic and marbled floor. The curtains and vases however were the same colours as the walls. It was beautiful it an outstanding way, especially the way he set the house. We head down a set of seven staircase before our feet touch the marbled floor, yes, feet. She made me take off my shoes at the beginning of the stairs. ‘I can’t walk with my barefoot,’
‘I know,’ she walked to a neatly lined up fluffy slippers of different colours and slipped on a red one. ‘Pick your size.’
‘So, everyone who comes in here just pick and wear?’
‘Until they leave, the one thing he hates is dirt in his living room.’
‘So,’ I said walking to the roll of slippers. ‘Dirt can be anywhere else,’ I said jokingly.
‘Dirty my house and I’ll cut your legs,’ my heart skipped, I’m really here! I held my breathe, put on my strict face and turned around. He was checking me out shamelessly, I smirked and waited until our gaze met before winking at him.
‘Done stripping me?’
‘Ahem,’ he coughed and grinned. ‘I’m a gentleman, gentlemen don’t do that without permission.’
‘Indeed,’ I said sarcastically and walked to a chair to seat down. He gave Kate a dismissive look as he joined me in the set of merged sofas. ‘Nice place you’ve got here.’
‘Thank you, I must say your hair is as black as the ace of spade, why?’
‘Surely my hair isn’t the blackest, don’t exaggerate, I glanced at Kate as she walked in,side. ‘Straight to business, what am I doing here?’ I asked as cold as I could.
‘Chill, refreshment first. What may I offer you?’
‘I’m fine, I just want to get this over and done with,’ I wanna k-ss him! Why Bloom! Why!
‘Maybe wine…’
‘Heartcode,’ I said with too much excitement than needed.
‘Eric,’ he corrected. ‘Please call me Eric instead.’
‘Okay, Eric, why am I here? Please tell me.’
‘You are very curious, aren’t you?’ He smirked. People, can you describe how possible it is to keep your hands away from the boy of your dreams when he’s just seven inches away from you! I’m going to die!
‘Are you going to tell me or should I walk?’ I gotta leave before I…. Dark appeared in his shadow opposite him, he wiggled his none brows at me teasingly. This is all their fault.
‘I will tell you but be patient with me,’ he whispered, why is he coming closer? Er….does he understand the meaning of social distance? ‘You’re just too beautiful Leila,’ I watched his hand pick my curl up with the tip of his fingers daintily, cold ran down my spine. ‘What is your secret?’
‘There are other beautiful girls, I am the least so why exaggerate?’ I said as boldly as I could.
‘True, but none is as enchanting as you are. There is just something about you Leila, something alluring, something mysterious….’ With every word he uttered, his face came closer. ‘What exactly keeps you going, keeps you so….’ He breath fanned my face as his finger slid down to my neck. I shuddered with pleasure, his eyes had me trapped, I couldn’t move which was a first. I’m f-cking trapped! ‘Breathtaking,’ he completed huskily.
‘Ahem! Cough cough,’ Dark coughed. ‘Doom glorious doom, death, magical dead girl!’ He sang loudly, snapping my senses back to reality. Knowing I would die. I mustered up enough courage and smirked slightly, his eyes flashed with confusion.
‘Are you done?’ I asked still smirking.
‘What?’
‘Good,’ I pushed him so hærd he crashed on the floor in a thud. I relaxed on the chair and crossed my legs like a queen. ‘Try something I haven’t already seen,’ he gro-ned in pain and dragged himself back to his formal position. I could hear Kate laughing from wherever she was. ‘Now really, why am I here?’
‘Okay, fine. I want you to be my girlfriend,’
‘Pardon?’
‘I want you to date me because I want to teach Droplet and my ex a lesson.’ Of course I knew what was up with him and that kid, I’m a fan but using me makes no sense.
‘Eric, retaliating to the folly of a growing jealous fowl is belittling, you are bigger than that both by brains, money, age and talent. You shouldn’t condescend to his level of childishness and complete immaturity. That girl is a bigger idiot, because you broke up with her, she went to date a guy who have been claiming self rivalry against you all his miserable life, someone she’s way older than. Ignore them.’ He stared at me with mouth opened a little.
‘I never thought of it that way,’ he finally spoke, looking everywhere but my eyes. ‘What about the me being a womanizer and woman beater? That I can not throwaway so easily because it is tarnishing my mother’s image, I don’t want people to see me that way.’ He said sadly
‘Apart from your mother’s reason, do you care?’
‘I respect women, I will never lay my hands on one so it hurts being seen as one, especially when I loved her.’
‘Aha! Now that’s the real reason why,’ I exclaimed bouncing on my seat. ‘You loved her.’
‘I was starting to, if she had behaved well a little longer, I would have completely fallen in love with her.’ I scoohed over to him, in a way my legs were partially between his since he was sitting sideway.
‘What did she do?’
‘Cheated, thrice and tried to sed-ce my friend, Alis who almost wring her neck.’
‘So, you still love her?’
‘Loved is consider past tense for a reason Leila, I don’t anymore, it has been months already.’
‘Years is not enough time to stop loving someone, it depends on your heart.’
‘Well, my heart have already forgotten her, I just want to prove a clear point and clear my name.’
‘You still love her,’
‘Leila,’ he called frowningly. ‘What do you know about love?’ I opened my mouth but shut it back, nothing. ‘There, now will you help me? I was going to make it known by shooting my new music video with you, I wrote a pretty cool love song that will surely raise brows.’
‘But you didn’t write it for me,’
‘I wrote it for my mother’s blueberry pancake and extra cheesed coney and cheese crisps.’ He said sheepishly, a light shade of pink appearing on his cheeks. I burst into laughter, seriously?
‘Seriously?!’
‘Whaaat,’ he enunciated shyly. ‘They are delicious. I was heartbroken so I fell in love with them, you can’t blame a man for falling in love.’
‘But of course,’ I chuckled. ‘I seriously don’t see what I’m going to gain from this arrangement but okay, I’ll help you.’
‘Really!’ He squealed.
‘Yes, only if you promise not to try any fast move on me,’
‘I can’t promise that, I will definitely try to get you laid. All you gotta do is resist me until I give up,’ I shrugged.
‘Worth a try,’
‘There you see her,’ Dark began singing into his ear in whispers, I chuckled nervously. What the f-ck is he doing!
‘Sitting there across the way
She don’t got a lot to say
But there’s something about her….’ Who let him watch TV again! Oh no!
‘And you don’t know why
But you are dying to try
You wanna, k-ss the girl….’ Eric wiggled his ears and knocked his own head.
‘That’s odd,’ he muttered.
‘So, what do we do from here?’ I asked sharply.
‘We get to know each other, how about a date? Tomorrow evening?’
‘I’ll skip, dad need me back home for something important.’ True, we were going home for the weekend because my stupid brother reported me, I was going to get the scolding of my life.
‘How about next week Wednesday?’
‘Why Wednesday?’
‘I’ll be preparing for the shoot. Your job is to arrive on Wednesday then after the first shoot, we’ll go on a date. The concept of the video is simple, it won’t take long.’
‘What is it like?’
‘You, me, in a ballroom, dancing as I sing to you. That’s for the first half, the second half will be us dancing in water and later me playing a piano at a flowery gazebo. Is it okay?’ Me! In a rom-ntic video meant for me! Oh my God!
‘Point of correction,’ Dark invaded my head. ‘A video meant for his mother’s more delicious delicacy than you. Know the difference.’
‘Imma gonna shave you bald!’ I yelled out venomously.
‘Is it bad?’
‘No, of course not,’ I said with a nervous laugh. ‘I said I will shave you bald if you change that, it’s perfect.’
‘Thank you,’ he blushed again. ‘Do you want to hear the song?’ He asked standing up slowly.
‘I will love to,’ I said blushingly. He stretched his hand to me, oh I wanna die!
‘Drink zinc,’ Dark said again. I huffed mentally and took Eric’s hand. He helped me up and gently laced our fingers together. The fireworks was like nothing I had ever felt. My heart was beating faster than it ever had all my life, it was weird.
‘Here goes the bride
With her very long head
She’s got her h¡ps
With her small ugly l-ips.
She’s gonna die
After humping all-night
I’ll attend her funeral
And hey! Maybe there’ll be food….’ Dark sang again, matching ahead of us. Gosh! I hate him right now. (Note that Eric can’t see him)
Bloom
I sat in my room reading a book, I was all alone at home. I prepared lasagna for dinner with pineapple upsidedown cake for dess**t. I went as far as making smoothie, just to make Leila happy so she will give me the full gist, just in case she tries to hide it to punish me for tricking her. What I did was good, it will help her self worth.
‘Bloom!!!!!!!’ Her voice made the building trembled, my heart skipped, did he hurt her? ‘Bloom!!!!’ She shrieked again, that was an excited scre-m. She barged into my room and in a flash, was bouncing on my bed.
‘I’ll conclude it went well,’
‘Perfect! He wrote a song for me Bloom, me!’
‘To be more precise,’ Dark who was hanging down the bed lazily said calmly with his beautiful slight British accent. ‘He wrote it for food, not you.’
‘Kill joy,’ she hissed.
‘How was my day if you will ask, it was fine thank you very much. I had a wonderful time making her miserable, you can thank me later, because for now, I have a date with this bed and do not wish to be disturbed. So, take your shrieking else way.’
‘You know this is my room, right?’
‘You know I don’t care, scram.’ Tons of smoke pushed us outside, by outside, I meant out of our apartment. The door locked, he locked us out of our own house!
‘Dark, open this door!’ Leila shouted hammering on the door. ‘This is our house! Ours!’
‘Stay out!’ He shouted. Astra came out with a big book, she looked at us confusedly.
‘Just keep walking bitch,’ Leila snarled. Astra quickly walked off to the elevator. She growled at the door and kicked it open, don’t try her, she went to kungfu school. ‘I’ma gonna kill you stupid cat!’ She yelled stomping into the house with body leaking off her dark energy. They are going to end up wrestling and she will win because when it comes to strength, Dark has nothing on her.
Yes! I have cheese puff in my microwave!
