Part two
On sighting the unbelievable, I closed the door and opened it again to re check if I saw right. When I opened the door again, the tree was still there. The tree that was cut away from Precious’s compound.
I could remember vividly that the men even burnt the evil tree, how on earth will the tree appeared in my compound. ” Is it possible for a tree to grow overnight “, ” who planted it”, was it intentionally planted there to scare us” all these was the question fluctuating on my mind.
I closed the door with fear and ran back to my room. I closed the door of my room tightly and hid myself under the blanket like a kid.
I couldn’t get the imagery out of my head. The blossom leaf and the broad branches of the tree kept on reminding me of the tree’s evil abilities. From that moment, I regretted intervening into the matter that doesn’t concern me. I’ve invited the spirit next door to our home, now is the time to face the consequences.
I slept off amidst the fear. I didn’t know anything until the next morning when the sound of a knock woke me up. It was my younger brother.
“Daddy is calling you, he said you should meet him outside, something scary has happened”. Of course, I knew what happened already, but the way he was stressing the words shows that there’s more to what I saw.
I stood up curiously and dragged my sleeping feet to the parlour. I mumbled some protective prayer before opening the door to see what Dad want to show me.
When I opened the door, I was surprised and relieved to see my Dad, mum and other siblings chewing something with excitement.
“What, where is the tree”
The imagery of what I saw yesternight struck my mind again. What I saw was too real to be a dream. My fear was confirmed when my Dad called me to sit beside him.
“Your pig was found dead here this morning”, he said as he pointed to the exact place where I saw the tree yesternight. It was my pig they were actually eating.
I was enveloped with fear. I didn’t realise what I put myself into until that moment Dad broke the news to me. How will I explain to them that I saw a tree yesternight and now it has disappeared.
I stood up immediately and went in,side before everyone started noticing my countenance. My younger bro brought part of the pig to me in,side the room. “Dad said you should use this to console yourself for the death of your pig” he said jokingly and went out.
My mouth was too heavy to eat. I just collected the food and disposed it when my brother went out of the room.
I was moody throughout the day. It seems as if I’ve been giving a death sentence. But, I have actually brought one upon myself.
I sneak in,side my father’s room later in the day to take his anointing oil. Lest I forget, my father is a Pastor, that was what gingered me to poke nose into someone’s else problem.
When I realized that everyone has went to bed, I sneaked out and poured the anointing all over the s₱0t where I saw the tree. I went back in,side with the hope that the anointing oil will perform wonders.
I went to bed, buried myself under the blanket and slept off.
This night, I was really enjoying my sleep that I thought I won’t wake up even if I hear any scre-m. I was still enjoying in the dreamland when I heard this scary, loud and frightening scre-m. The scre-ming sound seems really close to me that I quickly checked my room if the person that scre-med is there with me. I started p-nting, I’ve never experienced something as scary as that before in my life.
The scre-m continue resounding in my head. I stood up from bed and started running to the parlour to see if I see the creature that scre-med. I couldn’t find anything when I got to the parlour.
I don’t know what possessed me, I started running towards the door that led outside.
Then I opened the door to see something far scary than any fear I’ve experienced or imagined. What I saw was far beyond the tree I saw last night. It was the spirit in,side the tree. It was starring directly into my eye, ready to devour.
