ERIC POV

“ahaha, you want to kill me before my time, what have I not done for you?

Your mates are in the University, and you’ve written jamb 3 times now

without succeeding, now it resulted to drinking and getting beaten up,

haha, my enemies are at work ooh. My only son can never be useless. ”

My mum kept scolding me, I deserved it anyway. Thankfully one of the people

who was at the bar knew me very well so he ran to call her. She paid up the

bill and asked some guys to help her assist me home.

My wh0le body hurt by the next day, she had to m-ssage me with hot water

and aboniki.

“Your uncle has demanded that you join him in Ghana, so prepare, you are

leaving next week.” she said.

“seriously, Uncle Sam asked me to come to Ghana ” I asked again

.

” yes, he also said you’ll be schooling there too and he will also

introduce you to his business.

You must see this as a rare opportunity and you have to grab it with both

hands. It might be the last ohh. ” she said drawing her ear with her hands.

” I’ve heard you mum, I will try to make this work ”

“please my my son, you know you’re all I have left since your father left

us, and went to be with that woman”

“don’t worry mum, I promise you that things will change, I’ll make sure I

make you proud”

Maybe this was actually what I needed, to go far away and start my life

anew I thought, I’ve made many mistakes I’m not proud of but life is giving

me a second chance and this time if I failed, I had myself to blame.

I resolved to be a changed person, I needed to work hærd and be successful,

that way I would work my way back to her life. Yes!!, by the time I make

enough money and be very successful, she’ll be willing to take me back.

A smile curved my l-ips and I was happy with myself for the first time in months.

LEAH POV

As the day drew nearer that I will finally leave for the states, my

excitement began to die down.

For seven wh0le years, I’ll be away, in a totally strange land. The only

thing that made me somewhat happy was that Val will be coming with me, and

we’ll be staying in the same flat, of course his mom made that possible.

Anita was also back, she told me about how she they were robbed on their

way going, they were even beaten up, and she had to spend a wh0le week at

the hospital. Poor nita

We spent the few days together, shopping for her as she was also to resume

shortly, she had decided to stay in the hostel since I wasn’t going to be

around. We also went together to visit my grandma, Val include, he drove us

because my Dad claimed that he was too busy.

The old woman liked Val already and once we told her we were going to the

same University, she made Val promise to always look out for me.

She gave me her blessings and I could see tears in her eyes as she did so.

Finally we left but not without her usual delicious cakes always made for

me. I was really going to miss it I swear.

On the eve of my departure, Nita, stayed over at my place so as to esc-rt

me to the airport as I had an early flight.

“hmmmmmmmm, this one that you and Val will be staying in the same flat ”

she said

” wetin be your own sef, his mom that even got us the place is not even

complaining the way you are”

“well, abstinence is best and if you must ummmmmh, use protection ooh ” she

said pulling her ears.

” you silly girl, its only bad things you know ” I said throwing her a

pillow.

” Anyway, my bestie Is a very disciplined person” I fired back

“if I hear, have you ever seen where a man keeps his goal and yam in the

same storeroom and goes to bed without tieing the goat, the yam will be

gone by morning ” she said

” Anyway, be rest assured that nothing of such will happen and if it comes

to that, then your advice will be handy thank you ” I said pouting and

placing hands akimbo.

When we were done packing we lay on the bed exhausted.

” ooh Leah, I’m so going to miss you my friend ” Anita said

” I’m going to miss you more Nita, we’re Will I ever find such a crazy

friend like you, I wish we were going together ” I said as I turned to face

her, moist already wetting my eyes.

” no, this night is not for crying, we’ll have lots of that at the airport

tomorrow, its time for celebration girl, you’re so lucky, despite

everything you still made it, I’m so happy for you ” she said

” yeah, God is really wonderful, I had already lost hope, to even think I

even tried to take my own life ” I said as I remembered the ugly incident.

” I hope that fool pays for all his crime someday ” she said referring to

Eric.

” I hope so too, i should have listened to you guys earlier when you warned

me” I said regretfully

“I’m glad all that is in the past now, Val deserves your love 100%, the guy

is indeed a life saver ” she said

” yeah, you can say that again, I can’t imagine what would have happened

without him, i keep thanking God he never gave up on me despite how hærd I

pushed him” I shrugged,

“So you guys are officially dating now right ” she asked

” He hasn’t said the word, but what does it matter, I’m in love with him

and I won’t be surprised if we eventually end up together ” I said smiling

” I saw this coming a long time ago, but you didn’t believe, now you will

believe what I tell you from now on” she said

“prophet Anita, I see you”

“you are blessed my daughter ” she said and we both burst out in laughter.

” remember our deal oh, Nick is going to graduate before me so I think the

wedding might happen right after I come out of school ” she said

” and how are you so sure it’s going to be Nick ” I asked her

” trust me darling, its going to happen ” she replied, excited.

” So you mean he hasn’t eaten the fruit yet” I asked

“no darling, we are waiting for the wedding night ”

I felt my heart skip as I remembered how I lost mine, I’ve always dreamt of

giving mine to someone I truly loved on the bed of our honeymoon,.

I shrugged, most times life doesn’t give us what we wished for. What’s the

saying that goes, if life throws lemon at you, you make lemonade.

And I was willing to make that out of my own life and with the right person

by my side, nothing seemed impossible.

The next morning, we departed for the airport, Val and his mom came to pick

Us up, she was also to travel along with us and ensure we were settled.

It was a bitter-sweet moment as I and Anita, cried in each other’s arm.

That was going to be the first time in seven years we will be apart for so

long.

“make sure you in touch Leah” she said amidst tears.

“I’ll keep in touch, I promise you” I replied her.

“Leah, I trust you darling, always remember who you are”

My dad said hugging me and patting me at my back. Then he turned to Val.

“Son, I leave her in your hands now, you’ve always proved to be worthy,

make sure you keep that up” He said

“I’ll do my best Dad” He replied.

Then Dad brought both our hands together

“remember, what you two are going there for, there will be plenty of time

for you two but what’s important is that you both secure a bright future.

We’ll keep praying for you and know that we support your relationsh¡p but

always do the right thing, I hope I’ve made my points clear”

“yes Dad, we both answered.

“Allright people, its time to leave or we’ll miss our flight ”

Val’s mom said and we said our final goodbyes and headed for the plane.

We arrived some hours later and we checked into a hotel first.

The next day we went to the school to submit necessary doc-ments and we got

settled in the house afterwards.

” your Dad has said it all children, I hope you don’t dissapoint us ” she

said as she was about leaving the next day.

” we won’t mom” we both said as we esc-rted her outside were a taxi was

waiting to take her to the airport. We hugged and she entered into the the

taxi and it zoomed of then Val turned to me

“I guess I’ve been automatically made your Guardian here so you must Accord

me as such from now, I’m I understood” He said making a serious face.

“yes Sir” I replied, as we both laughed as we went into the house.

It was a new world for both of us and it’s up to us to make the best out of

it. Like our parents said, we were here to build our future empire and by God, we sure will..

SEVEN YEARS LATER

VALENTINE POV

Looking over at were she sat amidst her fellow graduands, I winked at her

and she replied with a smile.

Over the years she’s transformed into a very beautiful and sophisticated

woman.

Looking back at the years we spent together here in London, I would say it

was a wonderful experience.

We played, we fought, and we made up. Sticking to each other to reach our

desired goal. Fighting to attain a successful career, Securing our future

together.

I had no iota of doubt in me that she was the one I’m willing to spend the

rest of my life with., the one whom which I was going to build my wh0le

world around. The one that I’ll wake up every morning to see her beautiful

face. The one to mother my unborn kids.

I was very sure of that, deep in,side me, I believed she would definitely

carry my seed in her.

A smile curved my face as I remembered all the drama that went on.

At first we led our colleagues and friends to believe that we were

siblings, but trouble set when the boys started to flock around her,

seeking desperately for her attention.

Initially, we laughed over it, but with time I couldn’t deal with it any

longer.

I became very jealous and increasingly paranoid. And she would remind me

that it was my idea that we pose as siblings in the first place.

Each time they came by the house, I would always scold her, even shout at

her some times.

She’ll just cry and run into her room, avoiding me for days afterwards.

Eventually, I will feel remorse about my actions and apologize to her.

But one thing I loved most about her was that no matter how much we fought,

she never deprived me of food, neither did she fail to load my clothes in

the washing machine.

She was so tidy and well org-nized, one would actually think we had a nanny.

My mom was always impressed each time she visited and she would often ask

what was keeping me from putting a ring on her finger.

Saying that she was not to be blamed if someone else was smarter than me to

do so.

She even went as far as getting the diamond ring herself. My mom is really

something else. However, I kept the ring safe, waiting for the right time,

I already had everything all planned out.

The there was another case when one girl in my department, a blonde from

South Africa. Arianna, became very close, the girl was dammn hot,

if I wasn’t so much in love with Leah already, I wouldn’t mind having her.

Plus the girl was a genius, she really liked me a lot and I understood

every pass she made at me but it was a pity that my heart was already taken.

At some point, I tried to use her to get back at Leah, but I passed the

wrong message across in the process and she actually started seeing herself

as my girlfriend.

Surprisingly, Leah did not even bulge, and when I confronted her, she

clearly told me that she had no reason to panic because she knew where my

heart belonged, and she trusted me.

I was amazed at her confidence in me, and it actually propelled me never to

try anything funny.

Finally, we cleared the air about being siblings, insisting it was their

assumption, so we played along. We told them that we were betrothed to each

other by our parents, A culture in our tradition hence was why we lived

together.

That seemed to do the magic for us as we were now being referred to as “the

lovely black couple from Nigeria”

“once again, congratulations to you all”

The last speaker gave the final speech, as we all stood up to applaud and

also allow the graduating students leave the hall.

“congrats hunie, I’m so proud of you ” I said as I rushed to give her a hug

immediately she came out of the hall.

” baby I can’t believe I made it, gosh I’m so excited” she said, hugging me

tightly.

I saw our parents coming towards us, and Leah ran fort to hug her dad.

His eyes were moist and they pull in a tight hug. Right were I stood, I

could feel the emotion going on between father and daughter.

My mom had to reach for me too.

Eventually, they came to where we stood

“Congratulations dear, we are extremely proud of you ”

I heard my mom say, as she hugged Leah too.

The wh0le scenario, reminded me of my own graduation two years before, both

our parents were present too, and I and Leah couldn’t get enough of each

other as we k-ssed at every opportunity we could. It was even a miracle we

didn’t get intimate that day.

We had so much to drink and we kept k-ssing and cuddling each other, till

we fell asleep. We woke up the next morning to find ourselves on the bed,

half unclad still holding each other.

We were to return back to Nigeria the next month and I had already put

forward my resignation letter at a firm I was working at.

I had also gotten various job offers too in Nigeria , that’s the benefit of

being the best at what you do, you’ll be surely sorted out for.

That evening, after the little get together our family put in place to

celebrate our success, i took her for a walk at London Bridge.

She looked like a sea goddess as the breeze blowed her hair, making it fly

at her back.

I put my arms around her wa-ist as I drew her very close to me, while she

placed her arms around my neck.

We stayed like that for some time, staring into each other’s eyes,

absorbing the moment.

“You’re so beautiful hunie” I said as I planted a k-ss on her fore head”

“what did I ever do to deserve you baby” she said as she rested her head on

my chest.

“I’m the one who’s lucky to have you hunie, so d–n lucky, and I swear to

you, I’ll never let you go ” I said as I brushed my face against hers

” awwwwwn baby, I love you so much, so very much” she replied and our l-ips

locked, stealing our breaths away, hungry flames running through our

bloodstream, series of long k-sses, deep and elemental,

Her mouth roamed my face, my throat, hærd and wild, hunger rising fast and

furiously, spreading like a wild fire out of control, so that I could only

think of her, her scent, her taste, her touch her………..

LEAH POV

Finally, I’ll be leaving London in a few days. I really missed home and all

its goodness.

No doubt life here in the western world was more comfortable but like the

saying goes, No place is better than home.

These past few years has made me better, molding me into this woman I was.

So confident, strong and fearless, yet humble and subtle.

My dreams would never had come through without a special someone.

My love for him grew stronger by each second and I’ve never stopped

thanking God that our paths crossed.

I couldn’t wait to see Anita, God knows how much I’ve missed her these

years.

Although we always communicated, but I really needed to feel her, hug her,

fight with her.

She had also been through her own hærd days and those times I really wished

I could just reach out to her and hold her, saying those comforting words

to her.

Nick her boyfriend from way back actually proposed to her after his

graduation from law school.

Immediately she graduated from medical school, they both started to prepare

for the wedding.

But everything went sour when they went for medical check up and discovered

they both had AS genotype.

It really broke them and Nita cried for days, shutting herself up, even to

me.

I felt her pain even though we were several miles apart .

After much deliberation and counseling, they finally accepted to let go for

the sake of the innocent children who were bound to suffer the consequence

if they insisted to go ahead with the marriage.

Nick eventually got married six months later due to much pressure from his

mother. Insisting he was and only child and she desperately needed to carry

her grandchildren before she become too old.

Anita shocked me when she informed me that she’ll be attending the wedding,

and she did.

She said it was the only way she could finally convince herself it was

actually over, watching him say “I do” to another.

She told me she had moved on and has even started another relationsh¡p with

someone else. But I don’t believe her.

The Anita I know really loved Nick, and it will take the grace of God

himself that she’ll finally fall in love with another.

Thankfully, I was AA , so I wouldn’t have to go through that ordeal at all

because Val was also AA.

I wondered if I was ever going to cope if I were in her shoes.

Although he hadn’t proposed yet, I thought he would have done it on that

evening at the bridge.

I expect it to happen very soon, and if he doesn’t, I guess I would just

have to break the record and do that first.

It wasn’t really a bad idea though.
