Alexandra continued walking stealthily in a slow pace with the short gun pointed forward. She stopped before the guards quarters to check if they were dead or had been taken away. The door had been ripped open by bullets which allowed her to walk in freely without having to open the door. The interior of the quarter was pitch black as the lights had been turned off earlier. Alexandra turned on the lights to see the remaining surviving guards sprawled on the floor gro-ning in pains. She quickly ran out of the quarter and entered the other building. She had kept some first aid box in the house which would be useful in times of emergency like this. She came out with four first aid boxes, two on each hand and proceeded back to the guards quarters. She dropped them on the floor and placed her hands on the wa-ist. She heaved a sigh. There were five guards she needed to attend to all at once. It would have been possible and easy had it been the hostage house had a lab like her main residence in Rainbow Town but its too late to move them there. All she could do now is to apply first aid within the space of thirty minutes.

“Yuchi! Yuchi!”.

Alexandra heard one of the guards shouting for help but his voice was dropping off which signifies that he was already loosing consciousness. She looked around, tracing where the voice was emanating from. She saw him, he was lying on his stomach in a bloodbath as blood continued flowing on either side consistently. She took one of the first aid box she had earlier dropped on the floor and rushed towards him. She bent down to open the box and brought out latex gloves which she wore hurriedly on her two hands. Then, she turned the guard over in a way that his back was now touching the floor but she couldn’t begin the work on a messy floor so she moved him to a table and removed his shirt that was soaked in blood. She took some white pieces of clothes and began cleaning the wound at the shoulder region. Then she took bandages from the box and began pressing directly against the wound. The bleeding subsided and she applied gauze to the wound, wrapping it around the wound to enable pressure on the wound. She heaved a sigh of relief as she checked his wrist to feel his pulse, the temperature was still consistent.

The guard slowly opened his eyes to see Alexandra.

“Gomennasai”, Alexandra said which means ‘Sorry’.

“Arigatou” the guard managed to say which means ‘Thank you’

Alexandra let out a brief smile and quickly stood up to do same to others who had a bullet in their arms.

••Thirty minutes later•••

Alexandra finished dressing the wound of the guards. She left them to rest before she would begin to ask them questions. She walked out of the quarter tiredly and proceeded into the other building with the first aid boxes in her hands. She dropped them on the floor as soon as she opened the door of the living room which had two couches and a three seater sofa with a small rounded table in the middle. She slouched heavily on the sofa, lying with her back on the three seater sofa.

She began ruminating deeply on the attackers and how they were able to infiltrate easily into the building. Though, the building was less secured by tech unlike her main residence which was highly secured.

She stood up, sitting uprightly and drew the small table to herself. There were buttons from 0-9 on the table which served as a pass code to the safe in the table. She punched the buttons and the table lid immediately flipped open. She brought out a laptop and a mouse in the safe and pressed the combination codes again, the table lid flipped back and closed. She dropped the laptop on the table and powered it on. The laptop gave a signal, truncating its booting as a passworded window popped on the screen. She punched in her password and the laptop continued to boot.

She connected the cable of the mouse to the laptop to facilitate her work. The laptop had finished booting and the home window shown on the screen. She took the mouse and started circling it on one s₱0t, moving the arrow on the screen diagonally. She navigated to a security camera app and double click on the mouse. The app began to load and after some minutes it opened, showing several footages playing on the screen. She clicked on a footage covering the outside part of the building. The video began showing from day time and she fast forwarded the streaming to 23:00. The footage showed no specific movement as everything was black so she fast forwarded to 23:30. Three black hilux vans were parked outside the gate and for some minutes nothing happened as everything remained still. She fast forwarded it again to 23:58. Black figures began to alight from the vans, spreading out into formation.

Alexandra sank into the sofa and folded her hands as she watched on. Two men began walking towards the gate; one brought out a gun from the wa-ist hostler while the other brought out tools from the backpack slung over his shoulder. He began working on the gate handle where the palm print scanner was positioned and within a minute, the gate gave way. He dipped his hand into his ears and said something before entering into the compound. She minimized the footage and scrolled down to the footage covering the in,side part of the compound and maximized it. The footage began, showing no specific movement and she fast forwarded it to a reasonable distance which showed the two men in the compound, walking stealthily towards the buildings. All of a sudden, two tiny red lights began to move towards them and they ran, heading to the gate to avoid the laser but the laser also started from the gate and it grazed them into pieces. Alexandra heaved a sigh, she had turned on the intruder alarm. If detected, the ground laser would be automatically activated.

The video showed no specific movements afterwards but not long after, her guards came out with gun in their hands but hooded figures suddenly rappel down from no where. It happened so fast that the guards didn’t see them not until when they began shooting at them, killing four of her men while others retreated into the quarters. The unknown men in black proceeded to the quarters where the guards were taking cover. Their heavy duty guns ripped off the door and was about entering into the quarter when two of them suddenly fell. A bullet had struck them from behind and others retreated and disappeared into the night. The head guard came into view, clutching his arm as blood bled from it. He was the one who shot the two unknown men. He was hobbling unsteadily when two men suddenly grabbed him from behind and took him away which he fought them with a blow on their face but he was overpowered and knocked out with the butt of their gun. Soon, they were out of sight and Alexandra paused the footage.

She remembered that she had seen four of her men dead and she treated only five which means the head guard had been taken away by the unknown men. She clenched her fist and gritted her teeth in annoyance, eyes blazing with fury. She dithered over who the unknown men were, she had only taken down Governor Martin and someone is after her already?. Maybe it’s time to show who she really was. She cracked her knuckles as she stood up with bloodshot eyes, shutting down the system. She needed to take down all the people in her list before going after the attackers. The least she needed now is a distraction.

@ 1am

Alexandra drove slowly towards the club, shifted in park before parking at an acute angle. She stepped out of the car after putting off the engine and proceeded into the club.

The beats of the music playing over the sound system hit her eardrum so loud that she reeled back. She began trotting around looking for Adam in the crowded club bumping into different men; some winked at her while one or two who were brave enough smacked her butt. She looked back at them with a bloodshot eyes letting out a sigh in a bid to calm herself down. She doesn’t like to show off and wouldn’t want to create a scene. She could have dealt with them but hesitated, and turned around to see Adam standing with a broad smile on his face.

“Cassandra you’re late”, Amidu said grinning widely.

She gave him a forlorn look and handed him his car key.

“What’s wrong?”, Amidu asked as he collected the key.

“I lost her”, she said in a croaky voice which sounded real.

“Who?”

“My patient”, she said, forcing out a tear which slid down her eyes.

“What happened?”

“I was too late. She gave up the ghost on getting there”.

“Aww! So painful”, Amidu said with a sympathetic look.

“Thank you for the car anyway”

“Its nothing Cassandra”, Amidu said with a light smile. “I’m sorry for your loss”, he engaged her in a tight embrace which got Alexandra dazed.

Episode 18

Time: 10:00am

Location: Rainbow Town.

Amidu woke up lazily to the sound of his sonorous appalling alarm. He rolled to the other side of the bed and shoved it off. Though, his eyes were still blurred and not fully dilated from sleep, wanting to go for another round but suddenly jumped out of bed when his eyes caught a glimpse of the time. He blinked his eyes to be sure of what he was seeing, yet it remained static. Oops! He was damn too late!. He took his phone on the bedside table beside the reading lamp. A frown appeared on his face as his phone was buzzed with several missed calls, he checked the calls; 5 missed calls from Cole, 2 missed calls from agent Dave, 2 missed calls from an unknown number and lastly 1 missed call from the DG. His heart started to thump loud, louder than a locomotive train as he dithered over the reason why he had called him. He was unable to think as his head pounded with an headache. He dialed Cole’s number and he pressed the phone against his ear as it rang. The call was answered after it rang a couple of times.

“Hey boy”, Amidu said as soon as the call was picked.

“Where have you been?”, Cole asked over the phone, ignoring the pleasantries aspect.

“Oh! I’m sorry for that boy. Had a long night”

“Oh really?”, Cole chuckled.

“What’s wrong?”, Amidu asked.

“The DG and two top FBI agent came looking for you but you were not on seat. More worse with no record of you being here today. Now, the DG is very furious and the FBI agent is not helping matters either. I guess, you got your ass spooked already.”

Amidu blanched as his mouth flew open and a wrinkle formed on his forehead. His heart skipped several beats and for a moment, he was lost in a maze.

“Hello?”, Cole called as the other end of the call was silent.

Amidu was jerked back to reality as Cole’s voice sounded in his ears.

“What__ what does the FBI agents want?”, he stuttered out of fear.

“I don’t know yet but i heard the DG called and you didn’t pick up just like you did to mine but anyway just get here fast, they are about to start a conference meeting”, Cole said and the call ended.

Amidu stood petrified for a moment before the last two words materialized in his brain. He had called Cole to put him off his misery but only got aggravated. He quickly ran into the bathroom, brushed his teeth hurriedly and had a very short bath which he was done within minutes.

••Twenty minutes later•••

He stepped out of the car, merely locking the doors as he walked in fast strides towards the DSS tall

building. He pressed a button situated beside the elevator door and it slid open which he stepped in, clutching his suitcase and adjusted his tie. The elevator door dinged open and he hurriedly stepped out to meet his worst fears. Two FBI agents, following closely by the DG and Cole who both had a case file in their hands.

Amidu stopped in his tracks as he stood still, transfixed and legs rooted to the ground.

“Why are you just coming now?”, the DG asked, stepping out of the three.

“I__i__I’m sorry sir”, Amidu replied, stuttering.

“You don’t have to be sorry”, one of the FBI agents said. “The case has been handled by someone capable, just be thankful that you are not deprived of your rank or suspended”.

•••••••••••••
Amidu paced around in his office, running his hair with his fingers and muttering incoherent words to himself. He was devastated by the ooutcome of the wh0le thing. The most sensitive case that has the tendency of promoting him has been taken away from him, not just taken away but his career was at stake too. The door suddenly flung open and the DG entered unannounced which Amidu was unaware of.

“Amidu”, the DG called as he tapped him on the shoulder which snapped him out of his reverie.

“Its all your fault”, the DG began, he drew out one of the visitor’s chair and sat facing Amidu.

“I’m sorry sir”, Amidu apologized, bending down his head a little.

“I guess i already told you that the f****** sorry would get you no where because you caused this sh*t yourself and all you need to do is take care of it”

“Alright sir”.

“I had to beg him on your behalf because his ulterior motive was to deprive you of your rank”, the DG said.

“Thank you sir”

“The Deputy Governor also wanted you off the case, I guess that was why FBI agents came”, the DG said thoughtfully.

Amidu nodded. “That could be true”.

“But you’ve been drinking”, the DG looked up at Amidu who was surprised. “It makes you a sane man and a very good agent, I guess”.

“I. . .I . . .I”, he quieted down when he couldn’t find any words to defend himself with.

Time: 1:pm
Location: Not detected.

A lady wearing a mask could be seen circling a man who was seated in a chair with hands and legs tied. Two huge men stood at either side of the door holding a gun which looked like a glock but with added telescope for shooting accuracy. The lady stopped midway at the front of her victim; the victim was the head guard. He had an indifferent look on his face and wasn’t intimidated by the lady or the men watching with gun.

“Where is your boss?”, the masked lady asked, putting her right leg on the chair in front of her and rested her elbow on the knee which supported her chin as she gazed at the head guard.

There was no response from the head guard as he kept mute with a confused look on his face. He doesn’t understand English and couldn’t comprehend what the masked lady was saying.

“I ain’t joking man!, you gotta open your godamn mouth and tell me where the hell your boss is!”, the lady yelled in an american accent, bringing out a gun from her wa-ist hostler.

She waited to see his expression but he wasn’t moved by her threat so she pointed the gun to his head and c*cked the gun.

“You f***** talk now or ama pull the trigger straight to ya head”, the lady threatened with a furious look. She was getting infuriated by the confidence the guard showcased.

After waiting for about a minute, she pulled the trigger and blood spilled away from his head.

•••••••••••
Time: 4pm

Cole stepped out of the car and hurriedly ran over to the other side of the car and opened the door. A fair skinned, ski-ny lady stepped out of the car. She was wearing a blue jean trouser and a black round necked top, her eye glasses perching on her nose and a glamorous smile emitted from her face.

“This way milady”, Cole said half bending and stretching out his hands which the lady laughed at.

The clumping sounds of her high heels shoe sounded as they walked hand in hand into the eatery with the lady laughing heartily.

They settled down on the chairs, facing each other. Cole wore a button down white shirt that hugged his body like a second skin. He gazed at her for a moment, lost in her beauty.

“You’re beautiful Funmi”, Cole muttered under his breath but audible enough for her to hear.

Funmi grinned, revealing her white sparkling teeth.

“How many times will you tell me that huh?”, She said, still with a wide grin.

“Its the truth Funmi, your beauty slays that i could have apprehended you as a murderer”

She bursted out laughing so hærd that people around casted her a glance, checking if she was alright.

“C’mon Funmi, you’re attracting too much stares”, Cole said looking around.

“Oh! Forget about them. They are just D***-heads who wouldn’t mind their business”

Cole gave a short laugh.

“You’re funny”, he said.

“And you’re funnier”. She replied laughing again.

“Let’s get something to eat joor”, Cole said waving a waitress over.

The waitress came by and they placed their orders.

Cole’s phone suddenly began to ring in his trouser pocket. He stood up and brought out his phone, checking the caller; it was agent Dave.

“Sorry, I need to pick this”, He said and excused himself, walking away to a reasonable distance where the noise was subdued.

“Hello”, he said as soon as he dragged the green icon.

“Hey Cole we’ve gotten a lead from the DSS forensic”, Dave shouted over the phone.

“Are you serious?”, Cole asked exhilarated.

“Does it sounds like am joking?”, Dave snapped.

“F*** you, would be there soon”, Cole replied and hung up the call. He proceeded back to Funmi who was already eating.

“Baby I’m sorry, I need to go now”, Cole said with an apologetic look.

Her jaws dropped dejectedly.

“Why now?”

“Work calls baby but I promise am gonna visit you as soon as am done with work”, Cole said and k-ssed her on the cheek which she reciprocrated by k-ssing him full on the l-ips which got people looking at them.

“Lemme drop you off”, Cole said as they walked out of the eatery after she had footed the bills.

She shook her head sideways.

“No, I’ll call my driver to pick me up here”.

“Alright then, see you later”, Cole said and briefly embraced her before he left and drove out of the park.

She brought out her phone and pulled a call across to her driver.

“Hello meet me at the LA Victory’s eatery now”. She immediately hung up without waiting for the receiver to reply.

Few minutes later, a highlander jeep slowly pulled up beside her. She hopped in to the backseat without saying a word to the driver and the driver took off, speeding away. She didn’t notice there was a lady seated in the front seat beside the driver. It was Alexandra; she was rolling a gun with her fingers.
