The Trampled Rose (episode 8)
When the foundation of your relationsh¡p isn’t built on genuine love but rather on circ-mstantial basis such as the involvement of a baby, it’s hærd to tell if such love story will continue if anything unfortunate ever happened to the major reason it was created. When the love you have for someone is inspired by a particular situation or circ-mstances and not by genuine unconditional love, the foundation might not be strong enough to weather the storms life might throw at it. In Brandy and Mavin’s case, they were together because of the baby involved as a result of their affair. Despite the fact that they had a fling and were infatuated with each other, their love wasn’t founded on a solid ground but rather on shallow grounds. It’s safe to say that the love Tochi had for Brandy was the main deal, but we can’t say same for Mavin.
The news of the death of their baby was devastating enough to send Brandy to her early grave. The fact that she had lost almost everything because of that baby, only for the child to die at birth was heartbreaking indeed. She cried non-stop at the hospital and was consoled by Mavin and her mum who were present. It was such a sad day for them because it felt like the wh0le world was against them; even God.
As Brandy shed bitter tears, Mavin sat beside her bed and held her hands tightly without uttering a word. At that moment, he was drained of every strength in him and just wished he stayed backed at his house that fateful day he brought the cake to Brandy on her birthday. “All this won’t have happened if I sent that cake to be delivered to her doorstep without stepping my foot in that house” Mavin sadly thought to himself as he sat there holding Brandy’s hand. He tried to be strong but couldn’t help the tears that fell from his eyes. Everything just felt wrong in their relationsh¡p and the constant guilt they felt made them sad individuals with no atom of happiness in their lives. All this could have been prevented if they never betrayed Tochi. Too late now!
A week after the loss of the baby, Brandy was discharged from the hospital and Mavin paid all the hospital bills. The news of the death of their child got to the ears of everyone that knew about the infidelity. One good thing Brandy and Tochi’s family members did was to cover up the dirty secret of their family in such a way that no single soul from the outside world knew all the drama that was going on between Tochi, Marvin and Brandy. Not one single soul was aware of the infidelity and betrayal that happened in their family. Tochi’s parents didn’t necessarily need to cover the culprits but since they were good people, they kept their mouths shut and just wanted their son to divorce Brandy quietly and move on with his life with less stigma and drama.
Back in the hospital Brandy worked at, few nurses had suspected earlier that she was pregnant but they felt the baby belonged to her husband. No one knew the dirty secrets of Brandy infidelity; same with Tochi’s colleagues at the bank. No one suspected that Mavin’s transfer to another branch was linked to Tochi. They only felt he needed to be closer to where he lived; which was the reason he gave them for transferring. To be honest, everyone involved in this saga did well to keep it a secret because the more people you have in your personal business, the h-rder it would be to move on from a bad situation or live happily afterwards without having people detect to you how to live your life or handle the situation. Tochi didn’t want his personal life issues to be on the l-ips of strangers; that was one reason he chose to keep things on the low and be low-key with his divorce.
It’s been a month since Brandy lost her baby and things began to change between her and Mavin. He stopped calling to check up on her and also stopped visiting. Before Brandy could even figure out what was going on, Mavin had quietly removed himself from her life. Whenever she called, he would take forever to pick up and hærdly ever returned her missed calls. Everything that was happening began to get her even more depressed and stressed out.
In order not to be idle and bored waiting for Mavin to call everyday, Brandy quit her job at the old hospital and tried applying for another job in a new hospital for a fresh start and to avoid stirring gossips. She was drastically demoted from the high rank she held in her old place of work and felt as though she was starting life all over again from the scratch. Her new salary was nothing compared to her old one and this made her begin to regret quitting her old job.
For some sad reasons, it felt as though the wh0le world was against her. Her marriage was crashing, her relationsh¡p with Mavin was dying, she lost her once prestigious position as a senior nurse and her standard of living was now lower than before. She suddenly had less friends, less loved ones and less family members that loved her. It felt as if she was alone in this world with no one to run to for comfort or help. “Was it really worth it?” She usually asked herself whenever she thought of how a short-lived pleasure ruined her once beautiful life. It’s sad that it was now too late for her to make amends and get back her once beautiful life.
While Brandy was going through the toughest times, Tochi was living his best life as the new ‘Regional Manager’ of the bank he worked in. He was promoted to one of the highest ranks and his pay tripled. This new level came with lots of incentives such as a house, car, trips privileges etc. Tochi was living the life!
Almost every day, Brandy would stalk all Tochi’s social media accounts to see what he was up to. His achievements were rubbed on her face by the informants she had in the bank that gave her updates about her husband. Everyday, Brandy would cry herself to sleep whenever it dawned on her that Tochi was once her husband but she threw everything down the drains by herself. “How did I ever let such a good man with great potentials slip right through my fingers? Was I mad or stupid? How on earth did this happen?” She usually asked herself whenever she cried herself to sleep. The thought of another woman in Tochi’s life killed her within. “I will get my husband back. I believe he still loves me and would forgive me eventually” she thought to herself and began to plot on how to locate his new house. After series of investigations, she got his new house address and planned an unexpected visit one fateful day.
While Brandy was busy planning of how she would visit Tochi to ask for his forgiveness, she had no idea that the divorce papers were ready to be served to her. She was not aware that he filed for a divorce immediately he got back from the resort. She was still in the dark till the bomb was dropped on her one fateful day; actually, she was in for two surprises.
It happened one beautiful weekend that Ashley was in town and Tochi went to pick her up from the airport. They kept in touch almost every day since he returned from the resort and their friendsh¡p greatly evolved into something very strong. Tochi cherished Ashley and could do just anything to make her happy because she had proven herself to be a good person and friend to him. He was gradually falling for her but was extremely careful not to let her know because he didn’t want to rush things too soon between them.
On the other hand, Ashley had grown very fond of Tochi and actually liked him. They were both aware of how they felt for each other but kept their feelings to themselves to first build their friendsh¡p before any ‘lovey dovey’ kinda things. When she arrived that afternoon, he was happy to pick her up from the airport. Immediately they saw each other, they smiled and hugged themselves. “You have grown taller from the last time I stood this close to you” Tochi jokingly said and Ashley laughed out loud. They hugged each other again and began to walk towards the airport parking lot. Ashley brought gifts for Tochi and he was happy to receive them. “You didn’t have to bother but thank you, I appreciate” he said as he collected a box that contained beautiful shiny healing crystals and meditation candles. It was so refreshing for him to see how much she pays attention to details and also how thoughtful she was. “What a rare spec!” He thought to himself as the drove all the way to his house.
When they arrived, Tochi made sure Ashley was comfortable before rushing down to the office because he left some unfinished work to go pick her up from the airport. “Make yourself feel at home, I will be back in the evening. There’s a lot of snacks and food to eat in the fridge. Here’s some cash to buy whatever you need but can’t find in the house. See you soon!” he said and zoomed out. With Tochi gone, Ashley went into the kitchen and found out that his fridge was mostly stocked with snacks, treats and drinks. There was no healthy food there so she instantly knew she had to go to the market to get some groceries. She went to his p-ntry and took records of the food items there, then ordered an Uber and headed to the market afterwards.
When Tochi came back home that evening, he was greeted with lots of delicious delicacies in the dining table. He was mesmerized and dumbfounded that Ashley could do such a beautiful thing like that when she was supposed to be resting from her trip. “Wow!! Don’t tell me you went to the market, got back and cooked all these meals when you were supposed to be resting?” He surprisingly asked and she nodded ‘yes’ with a beautiful smile on her face. It was at that moment he knew that he was never letting Ashley slip from his hands. “What more could I ask for in a partner than all these charming qualities this woman has?” He thought to himself as he sat in the dinning table to feast on the meals she prepared. Just as they sat down to eat, there was a knock on the door. Tochi went to open the door and his gateman walked into the livingroom. “Sir, a woman is here to see you” he said, “who’s she and what’s her name” Tochi inquired and the gateman replied “I don’t know sir”. After giving it less thought, he told the gateman to let the person in.
Few minutes afterwards, there was another knock on the door and this time, Ashley got up to open it. Immediately the door opened, she saw a beautifully dressed lady standing outside; “Come in” she said with a smile on her face. As the lady walked in,side the house, she gave Ashley a piercing stare. She looked at Ashley from head to toe with a disgusted countenance and that was when Ashley knew that something was up.
When the lady entered fully into the house, Tochi turned towards the door to see who it was and his heart instantly dropped when he saw Brandy. Without hesitating, he scre-med “What are you doing here? How did you get my address?”.
As the atmosphere began to get heated, Brandy briefly looked at Ashley and then looked back at Tochi. With full confidence, she dropped a shocker; “I am here to get my Man and Husband back”
