Second-to-last episode
A contrite and broken spirit is the fastest gateway to the heart of God and also one of the surest ways to receive forgiveness from both God and man. Until a person realises their wrongs and genuinely ask for forgiveness, they never gets forgiven. In Chelsea’s case, she had come to the point of total brokenness and was worthy of forgiveness because her past mistakes had dawned on her and she wasn’t proud of the person she used to be several years back. Words are extremely powerful because it has the power to build or scatter a person’s destiny, so let’s be mindful of how we used them no matter what. It was quite relieving that Chelsea was able to remember the curse her father laid on her head many years back; at least it’s safe to say that her deliverance and liberation was close.
Immediately after the trip down memory lane, Chelsea’s heart dropped as she vividly recalled that fateful day her dad cursed her. Everything he said began to ring a bell in her head as she stood in the hospital hallway looking lost. That very moment, it dawned on her where majority of her problems were coming from and without hesitating, she finished up with what she had to do at the hospital and headed straight home afterwards.
On the ride home, Chelsea couldn’t get her mind off her new found revelation. She was sober all through and kept praying within that her dad forgives and eventually lifts the curse.
Immediately Chelsea arrived home, she first went to see her step mum and narrated everything to her. “Yes I remember that day, I even thought you apologised to him before you packed out?” Her step mum inquired and she said ‘No’. Both of them planned on how to approach her dad and after going back and forth on their decision, the long awaited confrontation came.
Chelsea’s dad was in his room when he heard a knock on the door. “Who’s that?” he asked, “It’s me sir” Chelsea replied and opened the door. Her step mum was there with her too so as to make the confrontation less difficult for Chelsea. “My husband, we have come for something very important. My love I know you always mean well for your children and would never intentionally hurt them or anyone. However, we are here because you said something out of anger some years ago and we want to ask for your forgiveness” Her step mum said.
At that moment, Chelsea’s dad was a bit confused because he didn’t know why his wife and daughter were in his room talking about forgiveness for a crime that was unknown to him. Well, he was bound on finding out what was going on. “Forgiveness for what?” he curiously inquired and before everyone knew it, Chelsea started shedding tears. As she sobbed, her step mother was moved and a few tear drops fell off her eyes too.
The confusion was becoming unbearable for the old man that he had to sit up to have a proper view of what was going on. “I asked a question earlier but non of you want to talk. What is the problem?” he shockingly asked and that was when Chelsea began to talk. “Daddy, I did something wrong to you few years ago and you cursed me in the process by saying it will never be well with me, and also that people will begin to see me for the rotten person that I am. It took me till today to remember that very day and also realise that the curse you laid on my head could be the reason for every misfortune I’m presently facing. I have totally lost everything and don’t look one bit of what I used to be. My baby is battling for his life, Robert hates me with passion and doesn’t want me in his life again, all my friends are far gone in life while I’m still behind, my job is at stake and my reputation has been ruined beyond my imagination. It’s clear that something isn’t right with me and if I continue this way, I might totally lose my mind and go crazy one day” She soberly said and knelt down in front of her dad afterwards; “Daddy I’m so sorry from the button of my heart for not being the best daughter to you and my step mum. I was foolish, stupid and without a good character. I’m so sorry sir, please forgive me. Daddy I am tired! I’m so tired of everything that’s happening to me even though I know I deserve it because I brought it upon myself. I’m a changed person now and know better, please don’t judge me by my past mistakes anymore. I’m so sorry daddy, please forgive me I beg you” she added as she sobbed.
The atmosphere was filled with so much emotions that Chelsea’s father and step mum didn’t know when they started tearing up too. A sincere apology has the power to weaken and soften the toughest hearts. At that moment, Chelsea’s dad felt broken to have partly contributed to his daughter’s misery.
No matter how much a child misbehaves, severely punishing that child is much more better that laying a curse on them or using negative words on them because you might just be the reason your child would become a total failure in the near future. There’s no need to suffer and train a child only for them to become useless to you in the future because of the negative words you said to them or the curse you laid on their head. Also, remember that your child is half you and half the person you love, so before you curse your child, ask yourself if you would wish that same fate for yourself. No matter how bad a child misbehaves, never lose yourself in the process and say things that has the ability to jeopardise their future. Severe punishment would always be a better option than laying curses!
Thanks to God, Chelsea’s father had realised the part he played in the recent misfortune that had befell his daughter. Despite the fact that he said what he said out of anger, the broken state of his daughter at that moment made any reason for his actions unjustifiable. On seeing that Chelsea was genuinely repentant, her dad stretched out his arms and beckoned on her to come forward. She soberly got up from where she knelt down and ran into his arms and burst into uncontrollable tears afterwards.
Everyone was overly emotional and couldn’t hold back the tears that fell off their eyes. Chelsea’s dad hugged her tightly and gently said “I forgive you and revoke any curse or negative word I ever said to you out of anger. I’m sorry too my child”. Immediately her dad said that, it felt like a thick cloud cleared from her eyes and goose bumps filled her wh0le body. It honestly felt like Chelsea was starting life all over again and her past life was totally gone. There were so many unfamiliar feelings she experienced at that moment and it was due to the fact that a hindering obstacle in her life has just been shifted.
What a blessed day indeed, as it was the beginning of a new healthy relationsh¡p in that family. From that day henceforth, life began to give a new meaning to Chelsea and also began to look differently. She suddenly became less concerned about what people said behind her back; unlike before. She genuinely worked on herself and changed her character for the better. Every atom of desperation and hunger for the vain things of life totally vanished without leaving any trace. Chelsea started living for the right purpose and began to drop every irrelevant thing that bothered her in the past.
Nine months finally completed and Chelsea’s baby boy was out of the hospital. She gave her all to her child and didn’t bother herself with anything that didn’t concern her child. Strangely, it felt as though Chelsea started life all over again and her new life revolved around her child only.
After a little while, Robert started noticing the drastic change in Chelsea’s life. She totally stopped calling him for anything and wasn’t on his face every now and then. Matter of fact, he usually sent money to her every month whether she asked or not because the baby was his utmost responsibility too. It bothered Robert on what could have changed Chelsea’s character overnight. Whenever he went to visit his baby, she would do the needful and leave both of them in the living room. Afterwards, she’ll enter her room to attend to work concerning the bank or other important things.
As time went by, the baby started walking and Chelsea went back to school to further her education; while still working at the bank. The new level Chelsea was giving Robert made him begin to fall in love with her again. For some strange reasons, he started getting attracted to her and indirectly used through the baby to see her every now and then.
Unfortunately, Chelsea was too busy to notice that Robert was gradually falling in love with her again. She loved him to a fault but felt that he would never find her attractive again; not after all she did in the past. Since after Robert, no man had touched Chelsea because she just hadn’t given any new relationsh¡p a try. Her child was her utmost priority and nothing else.
Robert’s feelings were concealed for a long time, till one fateful day. On that day, Chelsea was supposed to drop the baby off with him before heading for evening class in her school. When she arrived, he was already waiting in the living room for her and hurriedly collected the baby she was carrying.
Immediately Chelsea handed the baby over to Robert, she was about to turn and walk away when he grabbed her wa-ist from behind. Confused on what was going on, she turned towards his direction and before Chelsea knew it; Robert who was still holding their baby with one hand gently said “I want you back” and planted a soft k-ss of her l-ips.
She looked into his shiny eyes and stammered; “How? Why?”.
