Undying love
Chapter nineteen
Francis pov
I woke up from school with a scre-m
” noooooooo! ”
My scre-m alerted my mom.
” Francisco, what is it!, why are you scre-ming! ”
” it’s Ngozi!”
“what happened to her!! ”
“I had a nightmare, it’s a warning mom!!!, Ngozi is going to die!!!!”
I said solemnly, I couldn’t really remember the details of the dream, it was all foggy, like a blur
My mom became deep in thought, I know she’s thinking the same thing I’m thinking, my dreams always come to pass.
I didn’t even know I was sweating until my mom touched my forehead
” I reject that for her, Francis, go and take a shower, everything’s going to be okay ”
I stood under the shower and continued thinking
I know the dream is a warning that danger is looming
But Ngozi is too stubborn
Even if I tell her about the dream, she’ll only reject it and warn me not to cast aspersions on her.
Kate’s pov
I woke up feeling refreshed
I could perceive the aroma of fried plantain
I trace the aroma to the kitchen and I met Ngozi, Mary, chioma and her mom there and they were already dressed
I wonder how long I slept
” good morning ma”
” good morning Kate”
” why didn’t you wake me up ”
“since you’re not going to school today, we want you to enjoy your sleep ”
” thanks ma ”
” come on, go have your bath and eat your breakfast while it’s still hot, beans and plantain is ready ”
They say you don’t know the value of what you have until you lose it
To Ngozi, this seemed like a normal way of life
But to me, it is so much more, it is a luxury
Moments later, I join them at the dining table
” so Katie, what dress have you picked up for Donal um I mean Jerry’s parent’s anniversary ”
” um, I really don’t have a proper dress, most of my clothes are Jean and top ”
” don’t worry about that, I’ll lend you one of the clothes that daddy bought for me that I haven’t worn ”
Minutes later, I was dressed in one of Ngozi’s gown
The gown was a flashy white sequinned material, it was slanted, it had a flowy arm on one side and a tiny strap at the other, it was body hugging from burst to h¡p but it flowed downwards
I stare at my reflection in the full-length mirror, my dark skin was glowing with health since I moved in with the Adams, the deep h0le I had in my neck had filled up completely, I owe a lot of it to mom’s good cooking, generosity and hospitality
” come on sit down let me do your makeup ”
Ngozi said with a wink
” don’t do rubbish make up for me oh! ”
“relax!, let me transform you, don’t you know I’m a professional makeup artist ”
I watch Ngozi bring out different brushes, powders, concealers,
My sisters use them a lot but I don’t really pay attention to it because after using makeup, they end up looking like clowns
“Ngozi, please don’t do heavy makeup for me oh! ”
” chill girl! Chill joh! Let me do the wonders ”
I listen to Ngozi’s nagging
” open your eyes well!, stop blinking!!, rub your l-ips together, oh oohhhhh! That’s not how I told you to do it!, keep your head straight!!!! ”
” are you not through since morning ”
“just one tiny bit remaining”
She brought out a lip liner and applied it on my l-ips
“you can now admire your gorgeous look ”
I look at my reflection in the mirror and was stunned by what I saw
I look amazingly gorgeous
“do you like it ”
” I love it Ngozi, it’s not too light, it’s not heavy, it’s perfect! ”
” I’m glad you like it, there’s just one more thing left ”
” what again! ”
She brought out a case
She opened it and I saw the most beautiful silver necklace, earrings and ring that I’ve ever seen
” wow Ngozi it’s beautiful ”
” yeah I’m only loaning you, I’m not loaning you the ring though, just the necklace and earrings ”
” OK thanks ”
” it was a gift from Cisco, you know he always buys me stuffs a lot, he called it our collection, the zee and Cisco collection ”
I notice that her eyes turned misty when she said the words and her voice became emotional
I squeeze her hand
” it’s alright, you really shouldn’t loan me this”
” no it’s alright, you can wear it, it goes with your dress ”
Ngozi dropped me off at Donald’s house
” Ngozi are you really sure you’re not coming in with me”
” I’m not dressed for the occasion and besides Jerry is not your average person, if he wanted me there, he’d have told me himself ”
” but why did he invite me ”
” I think that’s something you should ask him not me ”
I watch Ngozi leave
I pressed the door bell and the gate man opened the automatic gates
I stare at the storey building with awe!
This house was built in a simple way but at the same time it’s beautiful
It was painted lavender and white
” who are you looking for Miss ”
” um I’m Jerry’s classmate, he invited me over for his parents anniversary ”
” I’m sorry I can’t let you in until you make a call to him ”

Which stupid protocol is this one
I bring out my phone and made a call to Jerry
” Jerry I’m at the front of your gate ”
“OK, give me a second ”
Jerry came out dressed in a football jersey
Wait! what! I thought there was a party going on here
” Kate is an acquaintance, you can let her in”
I enter into the house and Jerry took me to the second parlor
I don’t see any guests, I see a man dressed in a suit and I presume him to be Jerry’s dad
” good afternoon sir”
” good afternoon, you must be Kate ”
” yes sir ”
” honey, Kate is here ”
Honestly I was expecting Jerry’s mom to look a lot older, I wasn’t expecting a woman that looks like she’s in her mid twenties, she looked nothing like the forty something year old woman that she actually is.
She was dressed in a very s€×y black gown, and she had a diamond necklace on her neck
She stretched forth her hand and shake me
” nice to meet you Kate ”
” it’s nice to meet you too ma”
” I’ve heard so much about you ”
I couldn’t help but raise my brows
” I know it doesn’t ring true right!, yeah! Jerry has a quiet personality ”
I look at my back and saw that Jerry has disappeared!
” happy anniversary ma”
” thank you my dear, you look absolutely beautiful ”
“thanks ma”
” come on, it’s time to cut the cake, Jerry! Jerry!!, come out of your room this instant!!! ”
I watch Jerry climb down the stairs with a grumpy look
“Come on smile for the camera ”
We all arranged ourselves at the back of the cake and took pictures
I and Jerry’s mom sit on the dining table, eating cake and drinking wine
” honestly Kate, I’ve been dying to know about you ”
Honestly I couldn’t help rolling my eyes, it’s my bad habit and I know I have to stop it
” I think the person you should be dying to know is Ngozi, she’s the first runner up of the mr/miss debate competition ”
” I know about all about the debate competition, but I’m surprised that Jerry was the first runner up because he has stage fright, but ever since I started bugging him to get an esc-rt and he told me he had gotten one, I noticed he’s been different, better, more humane and I can’t help but feel that you’re the reason why ”

” no ma!, Jerry has always been intelligent ”
” it’s fine if you don’t agree with me, so tell me about your parents ”
No matter how many times I’ll hear that word, I’ll always feel uneasy

It was a simple question

She picked up a phone and made a call
” hello Sharon, tell Titi to bring the blue cloth on the middle row in the 12th shop now, there’s a buyer with me at home ”

I was almost close to tears

That statement made me remember Mr Smith’s evil intentions

I say with smiles
While deep down I know Jerry is that bad

Titi came in with the clothe and I admire the soft and silky texture of the blouse and wrapper

I wanted to open my mouth to object

I was really touched
How can a stranger do so much for me
Titi braided my hair into a traditional shukwu ologede
I naturally don’t like shukwu
But this one was braided in such a unique way that I couldn’t help but fall in love with it
Titi also helped me make the Aso oke into an auto gele
I stood up and was ready to leave

” it’s nothing my dear, please feel free to come and visit me, I would appreciate it very much, Jerry you’re the worst host I’ve ever seen!, won’t you see Kate off ”
” you really shouldn’t bother him ma”

I open my mouth in shock
” but ma, I’m not dating Jerry ”
” I didn’t say you’re dating him, I meant as a friend ”

I got home and met Ngozi’s mom braiding Ngozi’s hair
I flaunt my hair and show them my beautiful traditional attire
Ngozi was wowed by it
” wow I’m so so jealous, this cloth is stunning ”
” wop1w, Kate it’s beautiful ”
” thanks so much MA ”
” by the way Kate, Cisco asked of you ”
” okay I’ll go and check on him at home ”
I went to Cisco’s house and met him watching TV
” Francis, I’m sorry I haven’t been here to congratulate you, you were amazing ”
” thanks Kate, you also performed wonderfully ”
I noticed his face looks serious
” Kate, there’s something I need to tell you ”

” please tell Ngozi to stay away from Donald ”

I look at Francis’s face and saw that he was damn serious
But Francis has never lied to me
I believe him

I kept thinking about what Francis said, I always have this feeling that once everything is going well for me, something bad is about to happen
I have a feeling that culture day tomorrow isn’t going to be as simple as it sounds.
