It’s funny how things happen in life, sometimes things doesn’t go the way you want, so when life hands us LIMES, why not change the letters and SMILE
Bukky’s pov
I was planning to enter the house unnoticed, I don’t want to listen to mom’s nagging, reminding me that I’m not good enough, I know I can never be good enough for them but hearing them say it, will hurt just the same, Tope’s vivaciousness and enthusiasm had cheered me up at school but as the house came into view, I am faced with the stark reality that I failed the mr/miss algebra competition.
For me, winning the competition has never been because of the money, it was just to have a feeling of self worth, I guess that’s why I love my boyfriend Tope so much, he always makes me feel special.
Adamu opens the high arched gate for me and I avoid passing the front entrance, I turned to the back and got to the kitchen door, I make a shuffling sound and hear no activity, I peep through the keyh0le just to be sure.

I open the door slowly to avoid any creaking sound
And I walk in stealthily to my room, I shut the door immediately.

My eyes popped out like saucers as I saw My mom, my dad and my little sister Timi sitting at the foot of my bed
” good afternoon everyone, I don’t know what you guys are up to but I know I failed, you don’t have to add insult to injury ”
” I’m very sorry dear, I didn’t see any congratulatory message that informed me that you qualified so I guess you didn’t, I know it’s just like you to sneak in like that and lock yourself up in the room so I decided to wait for you here ”
” I’m serious mom, I don’t want you guys insulting me, you’ll only make me feel bad ”
” we’re sorry, we baked you a cake ”
They brought out a heart shaped vanilla cake, and it was inscribed with ‘ YOU’RE NOT A FAILURE, WE’RE PROUD OF YOU ”
Are this people really my family

” won’t you give daddy a hug, my are aching so bad because of the hours I spent mixing flour, your mom insisted on home made cake ”
I didn’t know when tears sprang to my eyes
These people really surprised me
I hugged my dad
” seriously sis, mathematics is the hærdest subject ever, I’m sorry I said I wasn’t proud of you earlier ”
I almost didn’t believe everything that’s happening
It just seems too good to be true
It just feels like a soap opera family
But I could tell by their earnest faces that they mean every single word
” I love you all, thanks for not making me feel like a failure ”
We spent the rest of the afternoon bickering and laughing over mouthful of cakes
I feel happy, fulfilled that I have the one thing I have ever wanted the most in my family, TO FEEL AMONG
Tony’s pov
I saw the truck it her and drove off with speed , but the saddest part of it was that people didn’t even care to help her, some were taking pictures while others carried on with their business like nothing happened.
Today is a very sad day for me
But let me introduce myself and let you know why I feel sad
My name is Tony Adeyemo
And I deal with gas, as in I sell cylinders in wh0lesale and of course fill gas
But today is a terrible day for me
And I lost everything all because of the carelessness of one of my workers
Everything I struggled to gather up
Went in flames because one of my workers stuck the butt of a lit cigarette into the gas nozzle
Where do I start from!
Millions of naira, burnt in flames!
” Bashiru, as you ruined my life today, so will God ruin your life and everything you struggled to gather ”
And as I try to pass the gory s₱0t with my heart filled with sympathy and sorrow, but something held me back, there was something about the bleeding body of that girl that appealed to me.
I got out of the car and try to check her pulse
” no touch am she don die, if she never die sef, she no fit survive am ”
One of the onlookers yelled
But this girl seemed very much alive
And as for her chances of survival, that would be determined by a doctor.
She whispered something so faintly
” man… dy….
That further increased my will to help
i forgot about the fact that I have lost everything
I didn’t think about the ramifications
I know I just have to help this poor girl
I hoisted her up over my shoulder and carried her into the car
“all this small small boys that are doing yahoo plus, he wan go use the body for rituals be that ”
One of the women yelled as I drove off
It’s didn’t listen to her
I just pray it’s not too late to save her.
Ngozi’s pov
Things were finally falling into place between Francis and I, we sat down in the verandah and he was busy cracking one of his funny jokes.
I started laughing really hærd
” follow my advice Zee, just march to the school tomorrow and tell Mr Smith that his head is like Lagos /Ibadan express way, I swear you’ll qualify
immediately ”
” Cisco, I know you like me na, your advice is good ehn but it can’t be put into use, Cisco let’s be serious, what are we going to say at school tomorrow ”
” na cramming I go do oh, I go just find one textbook that has health topic in it and cramm it ”
Hmmm cramming!
That seems like a good idea!!
In the evening, Kate was busy reading one of her textbooks
” Ngozi, won’t you come and read this page, it talks about health ooo”
” Kate, I want to cramm ”
I switch on the television and start watching a popular TV show ‘ all about health ”
I will cramm everything that the presenter will say today
” I just pity your condition, Ngo you know you’re not good at cramming, better come and read now ”
But that my thick skull will not allow me to heed to her instructions
” better come and cramm with me, you don’t know what you’re missing ”
I continue cramming
I started meditating
” there are two major types of health, hmm yes, physical and mental health, financial, emotional and spiritual completes the overall types of health, yes…..
I continued singing it everywhere I went to, I couldn’t help saying it one more time before I sleep

Tony’s pov
I started pacing back and forth in the receiving room
I just continued asking any nurse that passed
” please how is the condition of the lady in ward 22″
” I’m sorry sir, you will be notified after she receives proper treatment ”
I hope I don’t get implicated because of my kind action
” Mr Adeyemo , the doctor needs your add attention ”
I raced to ward 22
” Mr Adeyemo , what’s your relationsh¡p with this lady”
” um, we’re not actually acquainted, I just did her a favor ”
” that’s very noble of you sir, but the problem Is that, her condition is a very delicate one, she is stabilized and I’m sure she’ll wake up very soon but the problem is that the accident made a lot of impact on her head and it’s likely that she’ll have temporary memory loss, we couldn’t find any Personal belongings on her so there’s no way we can contact her family, I know it sounds hærd Mr Tony but of you really want to help this girl, you need to put her in a very safe environment, what I mean is that you have to accommodate her and take care of her until she recovers ”
My head started ringing

” I’m very sorry, but paying the hospital bill was very difficult for me to do, how do you expect me to take care of her ”
” Mr Tony, her life is in your hands, it’s your decision to make, it’s either you help this girl or ignore her ”
I became lost in thought

I listen to the conversation
I close my eyes in order to avoid being noticed
All my body hurts
But my head hurts the most
they were different tubes attached to my veins
From the conversation I could easily guess that the young man was my helper
I was caught dilating my pupils
The doctor came to my side
” how are you feeling Miss ”
” it hurts, body, head, all over..…
” sorry dear
I opened my eyes to the source of that voice and I saw the most handsome guy I’ve ever seen, he has a set of dark cobalt eye balls, and a milky white teeth that makes me wonder if I haven’t seen him in a toothpaste commercial, his dark skin was literally shining, and his mouth curved sensually, oh my God, what’s happening to me!
” miss, do you remember anything about the accident ”
” which accident, um, where am I, what am I doing here ”
” Haaaaaaaaaa! ”
The guy scre-med and placed his hands on his head like someone in trouble
I smiled inwardly
But do I really have memory loss?
Ngozi’s pov
I enter the school gate with swagger
Donald was calling me but I snub him
Doesn’t he understand the meaning of give me space?
We assembled immediately in the grand hall and everyone was asked to talk about the way to improve the health aspect in the school
” I’m sure you guys are well prepared, at the end of today’s competition, only three of you will be selected ”
” yess sir ”
” miss Kate oladipupo… ”
Kate walked up to the stage and began a long speech on how a healthy environment can be maintained in school
I was amazed by the things she was saying
Kate finished her speech and the remaining people actually had the nerve to deliver long speeches
