Chapter 8.

Eva 💘

Jason….

He’s alive.. wait, maybe I’m imagining things.

I take slow steps closer to him, I reach out and touch his cheeks to confirm if I’m really seeing him.

It’s him, he is really alive. He is standing in front of me, I’m not dreaming.

The flowers fall from my hand as I throw myself into his arms, he wrap his arms around me and hug me to himself.

I bury my face in his shoulder and begin to cry.

“Jason… it’s you… it’s really you!”

“Yes, il mio cuore, it’s me. I’m alive”

I cried on his shoulder for some minutes, I move away from him but didn’t stop shedding tears and whimpering.

I look at him all round, he has bandages wrap around his head, his right arm seems to be in a cast before.

In fact he has bandages all over him.

I turn back to Aubrey with a smile, but she didn’t smile back.

She is just looking at Jason with a surprise expression, her mouth hanging open as if she’s finding it difficult to speak.

“How?” She finally speaks. “I-I.. I saw them bury your body? How come you’re standing in front of me, alive?”

Jason smiles.

“That wasn’t my body, that was a show my saviour put up to deceive my killer”

“No, you are lying, you are not Jason. I watch that building burn to the ground with Jason’s body in,side. You must be an imposter, you better tell me who you are now or I swear to God, I’ll kill you!!” Aubrey threatened him, glaring daggers at him.

Jason furrows his eyebrows.
He released a long sigh.

“Uncle Lee is straight but he often tell people he is g-y. An imposter wouldn’t know this right?” he said.

Aubrey stopped glaring at him and breaks into a smile, she jumps into his arms and hug him tight.

Jason winces and Aubrey instantly let him go. I rushed to him with concern.

“Are you alright? You shouldn’t have left the hospital in this condition?” I nag him.

“Well, I thought someone would be here crying their eyes out over my supposed death, and look, I’m right”

“This is no time for jokes” I look around and see a big tree “Come on, let’s sit over there”

Aubrey and I led him to the tree, we helped him sit and sat next to him.

“I really thought you are dead, I wouldn’t have been able to forgive myself, you know” I said.

“Don’t say that, I’m also at fault. I was just angry that the two ladies I’ve ever loved didn’t love me back, so I pinned the blame on Fred”

“Jason?” Aubrey called him in a soft voice.

“Yeah?”

“I’m sorry… I.. I.. stabbed you, I’m sorry”

Jason chuckles.

“Don’t worry it’s fine, I kinda deserve that”

Then there was silence, none of us utter a word.

We just breathe in the fresh air and look at the birds flying in the sky.

A question suddenly strike my mind and I turn to Jason.

“Jason”

He looks down at me.

“How did you escape the fire, it was fierce”

“Hmm, well after Grayson shot me many times, I gave up hope. I thought I was gonna die, so I started saying my last prayer, begging God to forgive me and accept my soul” he pause.

Aubrey and I exchange looks and roll our eyes, of course Jason will say it in an overly dramatic way.

He continues.

“But I guess God was willing to give me a second chance, at the last minute someone came in and carried me out, I couldn’t recognize the face before I passed out. But today while I was still in the hospital, I heard the doctor talking to someone on phone”

He turns to me.

“Your husband, Eva”

I frown.

“My husband?”

“Yes, it was Fred. He sent his men to rescue me” he smiles. “I guess I owe him my life”

Fred saved him? Is that the reason he doesn’t want to take me here? Because he knows that Jason is alive…..

But why did he keep it from me? Why did he let me believe Jason died?

“Jason, I’m just happy you’re alive” Bree said.

“Yeah, me too!” He replies.

He looks at me and his smile falters, he starts looking at me intensely.

Aubrey notice it, she clears her throat and stands up.

“I guess you two need to talk, I’m gonna excuse you for some minutes”

She turns to Jason.

“I trust you won’t do anything stupid, cause I’ll be watching you!”

Jason nods. She turns and walk away. When she’s few meters away from us, I faced Jason.

“So…. Are you still gonna hurt me?”

“No, I owe your husband my life.” He pause.
“Listen, Eva. I know I don’t have a chance with you, I know you only have Fred in your heart and I’m fine with. But I need a closure, I need something to hold onto”

What does he mean……

“A closure? Something to hold onto?”

He nods.

“How?”

He didn’t say another word, he just leans forward and crash his l-ips on mine.

I’m shocked. I didn’t know what to do…. I just stayed stilled as he moves his l-ips softly and slowly against mine.

He tilt my head and delves in nipping, I don’t know what happened or what came over me, but I feel myself k-ssing him back.

I k-ssed him for some minutes before I came back to my senses, what am I doing?

I’m a married woman, so why am I k-ssing another man?.

I push him away from me and slaps him across his face.

“Jason!!”

“I’m sorry, I’m really sorry…. We shouldn’t have done that but.. I just needed a closure… ”

“Jason, you…. ”

“I don’t think I can get over you Eva. But I’m willing to try to move on… but you have to help me move on”

“Help you move on? How can I help you move on?”

“Be my fake girlfriend”

“What??!”

I move away from him.

“Eva… ”

“No, Jason. I’m married and I love my husband”

“I know, I know how much you love Fred and I’m not gonna fight him or kidnap you or even force myself on you.

I’ll just be happy if you agree to be my fake girlfriend, we won’t do anything intimate, I won’t k-ss you or touch you inappropriately.

I know I couldn’t get you in this lifetime, but I want to have you in my imaginary world. I will be happy just thinking you are my girlfriend, can you allow that?”

I shake my head.

“I can’t allow that, it will make me feel as if I’m cheating on Fred”

“Eva, please. I’m not gonna bother you, I’ll be happy just texting you good morning and good night, I won’t ask of you what boyfriends ask of their girlfriends. Please just do this for me, say yes, please”

I stare at his face, his eyes has lost all hope of finding love. And I feel nothing but pity for him, I feel my heart break for him.

“Yes, but it should be as you said. No intimacy, no feelings attached”

He nods with a smile.

“Thank you, Eva” he embrace me.

I’m smiling but deep in my heart I feel as if I’m cheating Fred.

I’m just trying to help a friend… that shouldn’t be consider as cheating… right?.

Just then Aubrey comes back.

“Well, I guess you two have talk things through”

I pull away from Jason and stand up abruptly.

“Bree, let’s go”

Jason stands up too.

“I should head back to the hospital too, I know Fred has his boys looking for me now”

“Ok, take care” Bree told him.

“Eva?” He called me.

“T-take care. Bree, let’s go”

I don’t know why, but my heart is beating too fast, as if I’m doing something wrong.

I enter the penthouse, I see Bianca and Roy sitting in the living room.

Bianca is trying to get Roy to do his homework but he’s taking sneak glances at the TV, trying so hærd to keep up with his movie.

“Ok, that’s it I’m turning off the TV”

Bianca turns off the TV and Roy starts making his face like he’s gonna cry.

I rush to Bianca and embrace her from behind.

“Bianca, Jason is alive!!” I scre-med in her ear.

She winces a little and burst into a smile, she turns to me instantly.

She forgets about Roy, Roy uses this opportunity to take the remote control and runs away from that sofa.

He looks at me and gives me thumbs up.

“Really?!” She asked me.

“Yes, he’s alive. I went to visit his grave but he appears in front of me, he’s alive, he didn’t die!”

“Wow! That’s great news” she stops and looks at me. “But I hope he didn’t try to hurt you”

“No, he didn’t. In fact, he was so sorry and he said he’s not gonna fight with Fred anymore, he said he’s over me and to prove that he k-ssed me for a closure and ask me to be his fake girlfriend!” I gushed out excitedly.

Bianca frowns.

“Wait… Hold up, he k-ssed you?! And asked you to be his fake girlfriend?”

Oh my God! I guess I poured out everything because of over excitement.

Just then we hear heavy footsteps coming towards us, I turn around and see a furious Fred.

He stops in front of me, his jaw clenched and eyes coated with pure anger.

“You went to Jason’s grave even though I asked you not to! And you also k-ssed him! And agreed to be his girlfriend! WHAT THE f-ck WERE YOU THINKING, EVA!!”

O boi… I’ve caused trouble for myself. Why did I talk so much.

“Have you forgotten that you are married? You are my wife, Eva! How can you forget that?!”

“No, t-the k-ss… It was a mistake..we.. ”

“A mistake?! You think saying it’s a mistake will make it any better?! Huh!”

“Fred… ”

“Don’t f-cking say my name!!!” He said in a thunderous voice.

“He even has the guts to ask you to be his girlfriend! I shouldn’t have saved him, I should have let him die when I had the opportunity!!”

“Fred, don’t say that… the k-ss doesn’t mean anything to me”

“Shut the f-ck up, eva! Maybe I should go k-ss some random girl and tell you it doesn’t mean anything to me too!!

You disobeyed me and cheated on me too, don’t you think that is too much, Eva?”

“I’m sorry, but please don’t say I cheated on you”

“Oh? If that isn’t cheating, then I don’t know what it is!”

“I’m sorry, I… ”

“I don’t wanna hear sorry from you Eva!”

He close his eyes and takes in deep breaths.

He opens his eyes and they are red. Very red.

“I’m angry, I’m so damn angry. I need blood, I need to kill someone, someone must die today!”

“Fred.. please don’t kill him, it’s my fault, kill me if you want but spare him”

He released a dry laugh.

“All the more reason for me to kill him”

“Please…. ”

He sent me a very harsh glare and I shut up at once.

“Stay here and don’t leave this house or else…. I won’t kill only Jason, I’ll kill Aubrey too!”

He leaves and slams the door loudly.

I turn to Bianca, she’s just looking at me with disappointment.

“Bianca, please help me save Jason”.

She shakes her.

“Eva, I’m honestly disappointed in you. How could you let another man k-ss you?”

“I know I’m wrong, but please help me save Jason”

She stares at me for some minutes, she sighs heavily.

“Don’t worry, I know what will make Fred calm down”

I’m such a trouble.
