WHEN I FALL 🍂 🌊
BY RUTHIE LEE 🌸 🌸
That morning while preparing breakfast, Kathleen stood beside me, watched me and helped me with everything I needed.
While cooking, I realised almost have of everything had run out of the house and I would have to go to the grocery store to get some more food stuffs.
Kathleen helped set the table while the food was still far from getting ready. She just gets hungry all the time.
Kathleen and I were both standing in the kitchen quietly, well she was just standing and I was busy with the dirty dishes under the sink.
Mary’s voice was suddenly heard and before I could even take action, Kathleen ran out of the room like her life depended on it.
Few minutes later I heard the water running, and I guess she must be giving Mary her bath.
So nice of her.
If she’s still planning to go on about her repay stuff. This is more than enough.
While eating breakfast, I didn’t argue with Kathleen about letting her feed Mary, i just let her do what she had to do.
Like a pro, Kathleen ate and fed Mary to her satisfaction, she seemed pretty used and comfortable to it.
When I eat and try to look up at Kathleen, all I see is my dream, and at that moment I wanted to the same for real but no, I just held myself back and didn’t try anything stupid or funny.
“Sir, Joseph…? Is there something on my face?” Kathleen asked looking at me.
I snapped out of my thoughts and sighed.
God I’ve been staring without realising.
“No, you have nothing on your face!” I stated nervously suddenly gulping down my glass of water.
Kathleen laughed, “well you’ve been looking at me and I was getting kind of creeped out, you looked like you wanted to roast me to death!”.
Maybe I do. Both ways of thinking if I really do think about it.
“Sorry for that!” I apologized.
“It’s okay, I like it when you look at me!” she smiled.
“And you hate it when I look at other ladies, am I correct?” I narrowed my eyes at her and she nodded.
“Okay have you figured out what those feelings you explained to me yesterday means?” I asked.
She shook her head Negatively. “Not a clue, I just know that I want you!”.
She wants me. She shouldn’t dare say that again.
“Anyways, I’ll be going to the grocery store this afternoon!” I quickly changed the subject.
What is wrong with me.
I need help. Just by her saying that, she wants me, I feel aroused. Like what is wrong with me. Right now I’m seriously screaming at the top of my voice.
“Can I come wi–
“No, just stay home with Mary!” I stated.
“oh” she suddenly wore a frown.
“You should be happy, anyways I’m done eating” I said standing up and grabbing my plates.
“Okay, well I’m not done!” she announced.
“You’re not done till there’s not a single grain from our breakfast!” I gave her an eye roll and walked away.
“Come back home early, we can’t stay too long by ourselves!” Kathleen smiled at me standing beside the front door and holding Mary.
“I’m just heading to a grocery store, not traveling to space.” I scoffed.
“Still, come home early!” Kathleen smiled.
“Will do so!” I replied, grabbing my car keys and walked out of the house.
Mary suddenly made a whine and her hands reached for me.
I sighed and walked up to them.
“I’ll be home very soon okay, Mary!” I smiled and kissed her plumpy cheeks while Kathleen giggled.
Mary seemed to enjoy my kiss on the cheek, cause she suddenly smiled and pulled my nose.
I smiled at her and put her hands down.
“Aren’t you forgetting mine sir, Joseph!” Kathleen gave an adorable smile and tapped her cheek with her index finger.
“You’re not a baby Kathleen!” I stated.
“But still…” she pouted like a child. “It’s not fair.!”
She is indeed a child.
“How old are you Kathleen?” I smirked.
She laughed. “How am I supposed to know that?”
“You don’t know your age? Your birthday?” I blinked rapidly.
“Are people supposed to know their age? Aren’t supposed to keep living, is it a must to know your age?” she asked.
“I guess you must be clueless, judging by your look and everything, you must be around twenty two or three!” I stated.
“Oh okay,” she shrugged.
“But still yet, you act like a four year old!” I added.
“I don’t see anything hard in kissing me on the cheek just like you did to Mary!” she blurted.
I don’t get how she can say these things with such a straight face.
“Fine!” I sighed and leaned down a little bit to kiss her cheek.
She giggled and I fought the urge not to kiss her for real on her lips.
I stood straight and smiled at them. “Okay, then, I’ll be back within a blink of an eye!” I stated and walked to my car.
Kathleen waved once again and Mary tried to imitate the move but her hand didn’t go up too high.
I laughed and got into the car.
I got to the grocery store, since I already made a list of what I was getting, it was easy and before I knew it I was almost done with what I was buying. I headed for raw meats and as the seller wrapped them up for me.
Behind me, I heard the most familiar voice ever.
“Seriously what is wrong with you!” The voice said angrily and I gasped.
I turned immediately and hell it was Suzanne. Her stomach was huge.
I saw her arguing with a man and I didn’t even know when I called her. “Suzanne?”
She paused and turned to me. She was pregnant, she looked skinny and her stomach was the only fleshy thing in her body.
“Joseph! Oh… Hi…” she looked a little flushed.
“And who is he?” the man standing beside her asked with demand and my head turned to him.
We were the same height, he was just muscly and kind of fat.
“This is Joseph!” Suzanne stated and gave him a look.
The man smirked and brought his hand forward for a shake. “Hello, Joseph, I am Henry!”.
So she didn’t get to tell him I’m her ex husband and yet the so called ‘henry’ knew me right away.
I shook his hand and turned back to Suzanne.
“You’re pregnant!” I said.
“Yeah!” she smiled.
She broke up with me just a month ago and how come her stomach’s already like this.
Or was she even pregnant before breaking up with me??
“How is that possible?” I found my voice asking.
Henry suddenly chimed in. “How do you mean, how is that possible, we did it and I managed to get her pregnant, there. Did that quench your curiosity?” Henry smirked and I almost smacked his face.
“So you were already pregnant while you were with me, all those months!” I scoffed.
I felt like crying at that moment.
“Come on Joseph, we’re already passed that, you’re not going to cry like a baby seeing that I’m pregnant for Henry now!” I rolled my eyes.
“Suzanne!” my voice was low.
“Suzanne what?, now if you excuse me, my wife and I need to get home as soon as possible!” Henry said holding Suzanne’s waist and they both walked away from me.
I stood there and watch them go. I was pained. So she was cheating on me, and there she was acting like everything was my fault. Leaving Mary behind like it’s our fault, when it’s her fault, getting pregnant for another man still living with me. She knew sooner or later that her stomach would be visible and she made it out of my life in no time.
“Excuse me sir!” I heard someone say behind me and I turned to see the seller staring at me.
“There is your meat, all ready!” she said and I nodded and picked up the meat which has been wrapped and set in a plastic bag.
I paid for all and left the grocery store in no time.
My mood changed even more when I saw Henry and Suzanne outside the grocery store talking to an older man and holding hands. Suzanne was so skinny she looked like she would break any moment.
I sighed and got into my car angrily.
I got home and got everything out from the car and straight into the house.
The house seemed surprisingly empty and quiet for two talkatives.
I head straight to the kitchen, to place everything in their respective place. And after that, I head to my room.
There on my bed was Kathleen and Mary fast asleep. I breathed out a sigh of relief. At least after a long day with Suzanne and her so called husband. Seeing Kathleen and Mary’s faces brought a sweet warmth to my chest.
I walked out of the room and head to prepare dinner before they’d both wake up.
And it was like the evening was on my side at that moment, cause immediately I was done with preparing dinner and has set the table,
Kathleen and Mary woke up like they had planned it in their dreams.
Well we ate dinner that evening like always. It was one of the moments I would never wish to lose. Kathleen with her questions and Mary with her own questions that no one could understand.
It was eleven fifty two p.m, the house was now quiet cause she and Kathleen had been singing at the top of their lungs.
I was making a phone call with Martins in the living room when Kathleen came up to me and sat opposite me.
I ended the call and turned to her. “Not sleepy yet?” I asked.
“Yes!” she nodded.
“looks like the sleep you had during the day is paying off!” I said.
“But how come Mary’s already asleep!” Kathleen asked.
“Cause she’s a baby, all she does is sleep!” I stated.
We both remained quiet and I suddenly recalled my event today with Suzanne, I sighed heavily.
It hurts though, but what can I do.
“Is there something wrong sir, Joseph, you’ve been acting pretty strange you know!” Kathleen stated and I looked at her.
“I haven’t, a lot of things are just jammed in my head.” I stated, including her part.
“Things like what?” she asked.
Is she supposed to ask that, when you tell people you have a lot of things in your head, they give you word of encouragement so you’ll just get through them. But no with Kathleen. She’s always a curious cat.
“things like work and all” I Lied and she nodded.
“So, sir, Joseph do you want to go out again tonight,” Kathleen asked and I looked at her.
So we’ll get to kiss again.
Not happening, still not over Suzanne and yet look at me kissing Kathleen who… Gosh this is not okay!
“No, I’m already going to bed.” I said standing up. I don’t want anything to happen between us anymore.
“Remember to turn off the lights!” I stated.
I was heading to my room when Kathleen called me.
“Sir, Joseph!” the usual.
“Yeah?” I turned.
She hesitated for a while and held the hem of her shirt very tightly.
“What is it? Kathleen?” I asked.
What is she so nervous to talk about.
She walked closer to me.
What does she want?
“You?” I asked.
“I…?” she sighed. “it’s nothing!”
“Good night sir, Joseph!” she said and hurried to her room.
I laid on my bed and sighed heavily. I was feeling odd but I couldn’t tell what it was, I suddenly remembered Suzanne and I sighed. And just like that, I fell asleep.
“Sir, Joseph can we kiss?” Kathleen asked me while we both stood in the living room.
But I’m asleep, how come I’m still seeing what just happened moments ago. It’s like Kathleen and I both continued from where we stopped at the living room.
And what she wanted to say was ask for a kiss.?
I wasted no time, in fulfilling her wishes and we were all over each other, kissing like it’s the end of our lives.
