🙆WHO KILLED ATIM🤷
Story by Miriam Edem.

On that fateful day I picked up my phone to remind Atim of our d@t£.

We’ve been friends for over 3 months now and I felt like seeing her again after she promised to make out time for us to meet.

“Hey Ayi I’ll be so busy today and I almost forgot, Atim said.
“Every time? Just tell me you don’t want to see me and that will be fine, I said to her.

“Hiannn don’t sound that way na. Okay I’ll….. I’ll come over to your place okay, she said.
“Sure about that? And when should I expect you? I asked.

“Uhmmmm in the afternoon, Atim replied and I smiled.
“Don’t forget o because I won’t call to remind you so it won’t be like I’m disturbing you, I said.

“I hear, who you dey do shakara for now? Nduk siripum epos! She said and I bur-st out laughing.
That’s just one unique thing I love about Atim, the way she makes me laugh with the tone of her voice.
“Uwa fo do, see you later then, I said and dropped the call……….

I left for my shop that morning and left it to the care of the small boy who do help me out when Atim called that she’s on her way to my place.
I had to put the house in order even though its her second time to visit me. As an Efik guy I believe in cleanliness and didn’t want to give Atim that feeling that I’m dirty knowing she’s a neat girl.

It wasn’t up to 20 minutes i got home when I heard a knock on the door,
“Who’s there come in! Atim shouted and entered the room before i could even respond. I just looked at her and shook my head when I saw the time, it was alre-ady 5pm.

“Sorry na i kept you waiting, I was attending to something then i had to go home to change up, She said knowing why i shook my head.
“Thank God i didn’t rush from the shop when you called you were almost here, no be you again? I asked and she laughed taking a sachet water that was there.

It wasn’t up to 30 minutes we were together when the cloud changed like it was about to rain. I quic-kly picked up my phone to call my Neighbour to help me tell the boy in the shop to quic-kly pick the provisions in,side and lock up the store. And before i knew it, it was raining heavily.

“oworo I’ll be sleeping here tonight, I heard Atim jokily said which i pretended not to hear and ran out to pick my clothes outside.
I returned and turned on the rechargeable lamp to give light to the room, as the power went off because of the rain.

“Won’t you fetch water? Atim asked and i shook my head even though i wanted fetching the rain water, but silly me, i wanted impressing Atim.
She only sighed taking off her wig and went out to fill the buckets with water while i smiled knowing I just can’t hide or pretend where Atim is.

That was how the rain continued to fall and everywhere was dark, then i looked at Atim.
“How will you go home now? I asked her.
“Go home? What if i sleep here what will happen? She asked back.

“Serious? Mbok st©p putting joke in everything, i replied her.
“Mbok who is joking? See me o! Atim said and i saw she meant it.

“Atim you mean you are sleeping here? You no dey fear? I asked and she only laughed h@rd cl@pping her hands.
“See you better warn yourself o, no tou-ching. You sleep in South and I’ll sleep in north, un-derstand? She asked but i only heaved.

tou-ching her didn’t cross my head at all but i was so surprised with the trust she had in me to sleep over that night and i cleared my throat.
“Let me prepare garri for you to eat na, I said standing up.
“Ye nsuto efere? Atim asked.

“Efere abak o, i replied.
“okay sharp sharp na, she said and laid on the be-d while i left to get dinner re-ady…………

While we were talking after eating, she coughed and cleared her throat. Then she coughed again and again and i stood up to get her water to drink.
“Are you okay? I asked and she nodded.
“I think its time to sleep, she replied.

“Okay have the be-d while I’ll take over here, i said referring to the floor.
“Says who? She asked and coughed again.
“We can share the be-d, don’t worry about that, she continued and i nodded looking at her.

“Are you sure you’re okay? I asked.
“Maybe I’m just tired, esiere, she replied and laid down while i weakly laid down too.

At exactly 2a.m i thought i heard struggles on the be-d and i woke up to see Atim hitting herself in be-d.
“Atim! Nsitibe? I asked holding her but she was g@sping for breath with her eyes almost out of the socket.
“Abasi mmi! Atim! I shouted turning on the lights and before i knew it, i saw foams coming out from her mouth and my eyes bulged out.

🙆WHO KILLED ATIM🤷
Episode 2.
Story by Miriam Edem

“A….A…Ayi! Atim struggled to call out while I rushed my phone searching throu-gh my contacts but I saw no one reasonable to call who can help me that moment.
“Atim what are you doing to me! I scre-med frustrated holding her but she kept shaking in my arms.
Her eyes were alre-ady clothed with tears and fears written in it.

“No! I shouted and ran to the door opening it scre-ming at my neighbors for help.
Fortunately for me my closest neighbor was just awake and called my name when he heard my voice,
“Ayi is that you? Ekpenyong asked.

“Mbok di wam mi o! plea-se plea-se everyone wake up, mbok come help me o, o Jesus! I shouted jumping like I’ve lost my mind while Ekpenyong struggled to open his door and met me.
“What happened? Ekpenyong asked and I quic-kly held his hand to my room and the sight I saw weakened me.

There was Atim laid still on the floor with her eyes opened.
Ekpenyong looked at me which I looked at him too without moving a step.
My breathing pattern changed and I felt goose bu-mps all over me as i slowly went down to my knees and watched Ekpenyong gently t©uçhed Atim on her chin and looked at me with a face that said it all.

“Ayi! Ayi what happened? A neighbor walked in almost immediately and saw the wh0le drama and she looked speechless.
“How did this happened? Ayi say something! Ekpenyong shouted on me as I sat on the floor ru-bbing my head.

“What do you want me to say? I don’t un-derstand how I got to this point, how did this happen! I shouted back at him.
“Do you know what you’re saying? Someone just died in your room and with all indication this is poisoning and you don’t know how? You better figure it out before you’ll find yourself in jail! Ekpenyong shouted.

“Is she your girlfriend? The woman who c@m£ in asked.
“Just a friend o…. Oh abasi who did i offend? Help me oh God! I replied pacing round the room as Ekpenyong slowly sat down on the be-d and the woman quic-kly locked the door with a serious look.

“Look Ayi, I can swear you’re a good guy and its so sad this happened to you. But is all good its just us who knows about this and this is a very serious case that can take you to jail, the woman said.
“Aunty i didn’t poison her, I can’t do that. She only sle-pt over at my place because of the rain and then this happened, Ayi said.

“Who will believe this statement of yours? Her family or the police? Does anyb©dy know she was here? She asked.
“Do i know? I asked her back.

“But why are you asking this? Do you have a plan? Ekpenyong asked her and she nodded.
“I don’t know if it sounds okay but you should take your hands off this matter. Clear this b©dy so you won’t be in more trouble, the woman replied and i angrily looked at her.

“Are you serious aunty? The lady lying there was my good friend, and she doesn’t deserve what you just suggested now, she’s no wh-re I picked from the street! I shouted and Ekpenyong held me.
“Guy calm down, I won’t buy into her idea either but i think she’s only worried about you, Ekpenyong said and i covered my palms on my face crying as Ekpenyong hvgged me.

Minutes later I was calm and looked at Atim as she still laid where she fell and it was just left with Ekpenyong as the woman alre-ady left to her house.
“What now? Should we clean and cover her up while we wait for dawn? I weakly asked and Ekpenyong cleaned his face.

“Ete! I’m so confused here, I’ve never seen such a situation before and i don’t know how to help. But I’ll suggest we leave her this way then contact the police in the morning, What do you think? Ekpenyong asked and i sniffed shaking my head.
“I can’t get into her phone, its locked, Ekpenyong continued and i nodded.

“I know where she stays, i said.
“If that is so we’ll go there in the morning, Ekpenyong said.

“Before contacting the police? I asked and Ekpenyong rubbe-d his head.
“Nsi woro fi ntem? What kind of problem is this na? Just this one time a lady sle-pt over at your place it turned to a terrible nightmare, guy I’m so sad for you, Ekpenyong replied and i stood up from where i sat and squatted over Atim lifeless b©dy fighting back my own tears.

“I don’t un-derstand Atim, we ate the same food together, we drank the same water, what happened? Why you and why me? It shouldn’t be you, this is just too much for me, I said feeling so much anger as i felt so useless for the first time in my life.
“I don’t deserve this! I scre-med out.

“this won’t help Ayi, think guy think! Ayi shouted scratching his head and looked as if he just remembered something.
“I have an uncle, he works at civil defense maybe he can help, Ekpenyong said.

“Mbok kod oo, call him na no waste time, o Jehovah! I shouted and Ekpenyong left to get his phone……..
