Episode Seven
Tiwa narrating her story ………………
After my final exams in school, I was at home that evening with my sister watching a programme when mummy came to join us, she chat with us for awhile before she threw the bomb
“Tiwatope I’m beginning to suspect you”
Suspect me? How?

L£sb!an? My sister asked and bursted into laughter
To me it wasn’t funny at all because I understand where my mummy is going
I have never seen a man with you or hear you mentioning a man’s name before unlike your sister who changes them like clothes
Mummyyyyy, I don’t like that, sis Tope cautioned her
I’m sorry, but it is the truth, Tiwa, kilosele? Kilode, what happened ?
Nothing mum, I was only trying to face my studies

No mum, i bursted into tears, I don’t just understand, no man has ever asked me out, they prefer to send me to my friends and my sister, I don’t know why I don’t look attractive to them

I nodded my head and told them what I have been experiencing since I was in secondary school, how they prefer my friends and my sister to me, despite my beauty and my nice shape
My mother became restless that instant, she stood up and went into her room
“Tiwa, you are very wicked, is this what you have been keeping to yourself? My sister queried
I did not see this as a problem until a guy walked up to me recently and told me how beautiful I am but I should please help him talk to Funke, my friend, I explained to my sister
That ugly thing? She queried
Big sis, can’t explained how I felt that day, that moment I knew I was in trouble, I added

Very early the next morning it was my mother that woke me up, “Get up Tiwa, we are going out, quickly get dressed and meet me in the sitting room, I will be waiting for you” she quietly said
Where are we going mum? Is it not too early?

Get up my friend and meet me in the sitting room, she yelled
I quickly got up and took my bath, I knew if I delay any further, she will come and shout on me, I asked her again when I got to the sitting room, “mum where are we going?”
Church, she answered
Our church?
No, I want you to see one of my pastors, she answered as we stepped out of the house
On getting there, we met the pastor praying in the church, after the prayer he told us to come nearer, my mother narrated my story and told the pastor my age
You mean you have not been wooed by anyone in your life? The pastor asked
Yes sir, I answered
This man of God was not surprised, he told us he had seen a lot of cases like that and to God be the glory, the Lord had used him to deliver them, he told us the story of man who was delivered in the church at the age of forty five, ladies always run from him because of the odour that comes out of his body, he doesn’t smell until he ask them out
I was shocked when I heard that, he prayed that God that delivered the man will deliver me too, he asked us to knee down as he prayed for us, he prayed for few minutes before he asked us to sit down, after that he told us I have a spiritual husband but he believes I will receive my deliverance if I can fast and pray
If she cannot fast, what will she do then? she can fast very well daddy, my mother assured him
The man of God asked me to fast for seven days without food and water
I told my mother I cannot do it but she encouraged me to do it, she stayed with me and we did it together
Few weeks later, I heard they have pasted the graduating list in our school, I travelled to school and I was very happy to see my name, on my way back home, I was looking for a free ride because I have spent my tfare, a friend brought some bags which I couldn’t take my eyes off, thank God I knew where to get a free ride or cheaper one

I was there for more than thirty minutes before a car parked

“Hello pretty” a voice said from the car
Hi, I replied
What are you doing under this scorching sun? Can I please give you a ride?
“Oh my God, I almost scre-med, this guy is a soul saver, I said in my mind as he opened the car door for me.

Episode Eight
“God took time in creating you babe, you are beautiful, I wouldn’t mind taking you home to my mama” he muttered as I sat beside him in the car

He asked some few questions and to my surprise we were heading the same way, we got talking and he introduced himself as Richærd Bello, he told me so many things about himself and I also did, I told him what I went to do in school, he wished he could help me “runs” my NYSC posting but unfortunately he did not know anyone, he wanted to take me home but he received a call which made him changed his mind, he gave me five thousand naira to take a cab home, we also exchanged numbers
We started talking on phone from that day and he won’t stop professing love to me, there was no social media that time but his text messages woke me up every morning, when my mother noticed I was always talking to someone on phone, she asked who the person was
” Aunty Tiwa, e wa a, e ja wa si now, ta le n ba soro lori phone lenu ojo meta yi? ” meaning………… Tiwa, let me know now, who have you been speaking with on the phone lately?
A friend, I answered
Our prayer has been answered, I am grateful
Mummyyyyy, grateful for what? I asked
For what the Lord has done, my mother said
I could no longer hide it from her again, she was very happy when I told her about Richærd
She advised me not to play too hærd to get
Mommmm!
Okay ooo, just grab your copy asap, she excused me when my phone rang and whispered “That must be him”
My mummmm, she can tease for Africa, I love her so much and I know she loves me too, even more than my sister
We met again two weeks later, he told me about his plans to settle down very soon because of his mother’s pressure on him
“My mother is presently sick and she has vowed never to forgive me if she dies without seen my children” he explained
That is serious, I added
He asked if I could marry him
Marry you? We met just……….
Two weeks ago and my instincts told me you would make a good wife, he interrupted
I told him how much I like him as a friend but to me it is too early, let’s continue being friends and who knows, something good can come out of it
I pray so, Tiwa I love you, he said while holding my hands
Can he be serious? Marriage? Just like that? Is that how people get married? He might be trying to play me, I can’t trust him

I was so engrossed in my thought until he whispered into my ears “What are you thinking babe?
Oh! Nothinggggg, nothingggg, I stuttered
He smiled and said ” I know exactly what you are thinking but you have to trust me, I am for real
I couldn’t stop thinking about him on my way home, a man proposed to me? Tiwatope, are you sure you are not dreaming? I asked myself

On getting home, I started scre-ming from the gate, “Mummyyyyyyy, big sis where are you?

They both rushed outside and asked ” Tiwa kilosele? What happened?
Mummmyyyy, a man did not only ask me out today, he also proposed to me
What? My mother shouted
Yes, yes mummyyyyy, I scre-med
Is that why you are scre-ming? My sister inquired
Is it not worth it? For the very first time in 25years, it is worth celebrating
Do you know how many times men have proposed to me? My sister asked
We know you now, you are a fisher of men, my mum said teasingly
But this upset my sister and she angrily left us
What did you now tell him? My mother asked
I told him it is too early that we should take things easy, you know I can’t just jump at him like that
You are right, I’m happy for you dear, very soon I will become a grandmother
By God’s grace, I said as I hugged my mother, thanks for being there always mama, I love you so much

Episode Nine
A friend of mine called me weeks later from school that I have been posted to Adamawa

Adamawa ? I scre-med when I heard that

I cried my eyes out before I got to school, I didn’t believe until I saw it with my eyes, I called Richærd immediately, he told me to stop crying that it is just one year, my mother also encouraged me

Few days before I went to camp I went to visit Richærd at home, I almost spent the wh0le day in his house, we watched different movies and talked about his family, we later k-ssed each other and we ended up on the bed but I didn’t trust him enough to have s€× with him so I told him to stop
Why? Don’t you love me? He asked
I told him how much I love him but it is still early for us to have s€× besides I’m a V-rgin and I don’t intend losing my V-rginity just like that
At the mention of that, he became so calm and promised to wait till I’m ready, he also promised me so many things if I can keep myself for him

I promised to keep myself for only him

He k-ssed me passionately and I could read from his eyes that the love he has for me is genuine
He promised to take me to the motor park the day I would be leaving for camp and used the opportunity to know our house, he would have come to our house but he was always busy coupled with his mother’s sickness

The day I was to travel, I waited for him to call me but when I didn’t see his call, I had to call him, I called severally but he didn’t pick, I kept calling until the phone was switched off , I went to check him at home unfortunately I didn’t meet him

I became so restless, my sister asked if I was okay, I told her Richærd was to drop me at the park but i have called him severally he did not pick and now his phone has been switched off
Maybe he doesn’t want to take you, my sister said
Why? What will be his reason?
That is men for you, all those his promises for you might be lies, my sister added
It is because you don’t know Richærd, he’s not someone like that, he even said he has a surprise for me
I’m sure this is the surprise, once a man sees what they want, the rest is history, my sister concluded
I shook my head and told her Richærd had not seen anything, do you think I’ll lose my V-rginity just like that, when I’m not like you
You must be very stupid for saying that, she yelled
I went in,side to pack my remaining things, I brought my bags to the sitting room, then I thought of calling him again, that was when I realised that my phone is missing
Big sis, where is my phone?
Your phone? Where did you put it?
On this table, if this is a prank, you have to stop it, I’m traveling this night Mummmyyyyyy, Daddyyyyyyyy,I scre-med
They came out of their room and asked what the problems was
I told them I cannot find my phone, “Daddy, the new phone you just bought for me” I cried, I cannot imagine myself without my Nokia 3310, one of the most expensive phones then

We all looked everywhere but we couldn’t find it
My mother said maybe it is a warning that I shouldn’t travel that night
The camp will be closing a day after tomorrow, mum, you know how far the journey is, I’m traveling this night, nothing can stop me
My sister insisted I didn’t bring the phone home, I was a bit confused but I was sure I brought it because I didn’t stop dailing Richærd’s number until I entered the gate

My dad wanted to give me his own phone but mum insisted on giving me hers because of dad’s customers
I traveled that night but before I did, I told my sister and my mum to help me give Richærd that number incase he comes to check on me, they both don’t know him but I’m very sure he would introduce himself
Did he know our house? My sister asked
I am not sure, but I’m very sure he’l try to look for me, I answered
But you know mummy and I are not always at home, my sister said
Just in case sis, please be positive for once, I yelled at her
My mind was with him as I travel that night and I pray that everything would be fine with him.
