The close glare between Vicker and Benji in the silence voluminous living room was like the one between two fowls about to initiate a fight. Grace rolled her eyes again with a heavy exhalation.
“Arguing and fighting won’t solve our problems neither the one that has fallen the city.” She broke the silence.
“The city depends on us for cure. Let’s not do this.” Mrs Rose spoke like a mother.
Mark stood up. “The city sees us as the enemy now. So I object on that.”
Everywhere became quiet once again, while Cassandra resumed her locomotion through the staircase that had her footsteps fill the room once more. Vicker turned away from Benji that moment to speak to all.
“We must achieve what I want to be achieved in this house. No where else.”
“What is it that you want to achieve!? I believe this Alice knows how to use the coordinate. Why don’t we give it to her to produce the vaccine or better still hand it over to the government.” Benji retaliated.
He turned to him. “Over my dead body will i allow the formula get back to Alice or anyone else. Bringing her down and producing the cure to the disease is what I want to achieve.”
“And what follows after that?”
Vicker became mute.
“What you’re about to do is not possible. Nobody is a scientist here.” Benji substantiated.
“Then you must become one overnight!” Vicker looked at everyone. “I’m not forcing anybody to comply with me. If you think you’re not okay here, take a leave.”
There was a continuous eye contact among everyone. Constant electrical energy through a light bulb made it visible in the room. Apparently, Benji had turned to Ned who was sitting with his crush, Julianne. “Let’s leave, Ned. We don’t know this guy’s true intentions.” he whispered as all stared at them.
“Benji, it’s dangerous out there. We have no choice.” Ned replied.
The young man became weak. Truly he had no choice but to remain in that house. Hence he must comply with everything happening there. After a stretch of time, Vicker said, pointing at Julianne, Benji and Sandra, “Obsence of objection, four of us will make the journey now.”
“No.” Ned objected, standing up. “Julianne should stay let me go.” he glanced at her.
“I disagree.” Vicker insisted. “You need to stay and help Mark to protect others here.”
“I don’t want her…”
“Hey” Julianne interrupted him as she placed a hand on his stomach. “I’ll be fine.” she added calmly then looked at Vicker. “Let’s go.” she concluded, picking up her gun.
The four individuals set to leave that night. Before Vicker used the door, Grace did not only rush him but k-ssed him too. “Come back to me safe” she whispered to him.
Cassandra and Sandra couldn’t control the jealousy in their hearts. Nevertheless, Vicker went out without saying a word. He handled the steering wheel with Sandra sitting beside him. Benji and Julianne occupied the back seat. Aminu never hesitated to open the gate for them, so they drove out to the darkness.
He returned to the living room like one escaping from rain. He gazed at the remaining people in the house.
“Letting those people to the darkness is very dangerful oh!” he said, breathing hastily.
Grace smiled at his word even Mark who hilariously added, “Vicker alone is dangerful too, so when you put all of them together, they are dangerfulity.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Grace finally let out the laugh. “Don’t mind him, Aminu. It’s dangerous not dangerful.”
“Are we having dinner tonight or what?” Mark looked at the women in the house…..

The headlight of the car shone at victims with the disease. They were roaming around the road like zombies. Immediately they saw the car coming, they began to run towards it. They followed it till it stopped at the gate of the city university. They were actually heading to the school laboratory for the elements. But now they’ve been clustered at the gate by the victims, what would they do? Julianne could see them through the car glass, gro-ning hungrily for blood. Her heart skipped. Benji noticed it.
“Calm down.” he whispered to her. “Ned must see you again.”
She didn’t say anything, wondering what he meant by that.
“What are we gonna do now?” Sandra asked.
“On no account must you allow any of them to come in contact with your body.” Vicker began. “I’ll drive into the school premises with a high speed in order to give them some distance then we come out and hurry to the laboratory. Understood?”
Nobody said a word which he took as their ‘yes’ then sped into the premises, giving the victims a distance. He stopped at the entrance of the lab.
“Out now!’ he commanded.
They hurriedly came out, running towards the entrance. Unfortunately, Julianne fell down, watching as the vampires were trooping towards her. She tried to stand up but fell down again out of tension.
“Benji, help me!” she cried out loud.
Ben turned back to help her while Vicker and Sandra had passed through the door, urging them to hurry up!
Benji opened fire on the vampires before they could come closer, using a hand to drag Julianne up. “Run!” he commanded her, still shooting at them. He targeted their foreheads where blood splashed continuously.
“Hurry!” Julianne also helped from the door. Speedily, Benji met them and they locked the door instantly before the vampires arrived, banging on the door.
All stood behind the door, roaming their eyes at every corner of the lab. They could see bursen burner, burrette, rhesus-stand and many other chemicals. Vicker stepped in,side with the list to read their items aloud. Surprisingly, Sandra met him. “Hey” she tapped him. Immediately Vicker raised his head up, she slapped him hærdly.
“Whoa!” Benji exclaimed, while Julianne held her cheek as if she could feel the pains.
Vicker glared. “Sandra, what was that for?”
“For that girl, Grace, k-ssing you in front of me.”
“Are you out of your mind?!”
“You took my V-rginity and you are asking if I’m out of my mind?!”
“Listen Sandra,” Vicker stepped closer to her, while the two other persons enjoyed the show. “I did what I did to get what I wanted. It wasn’t done out of feelings.”
Bemused, Sandra stepped back and aimed her gun at Vicker. “You leave me no choice then.” She placed her finger on the trigger……

Back home, Grace and Cassandra could be seen in the kitchen, preparing dinner. They had the same height and complexion. As Grace was cutting a garbage, she said, “I learnt that you saved his life.”
“You mean Vicker?” Cassandra wanted to know without looking at her.
“Yes”
“Yes, I did.”
Grace suspended the activity, looking at her. That prompted Cassandra to also return the look, feeling her heartbeat.
“What?” she broke the silence.
“I just want to thank you. Vicker and I have come a long way…” Grace elaborated but was cut off by Cassandra.
‘It’s fine.” she resumed washing her plates trying to withstand the jealousy.
On the other hand, Ned and Mark kept vigilant. Both were at a window with their guns while Mrs Rose mourned her husband at a corner. At another window was the gatekeeper too.
“Tell me the truth, man” Ned beckoned on Mark’s attention. “There is an interior motive why Vicker is doing this. He doesn’t want to tell us. True or false?”
Mark glanced at him. “I wouldn’t say true neither would I say false. But bear in mind that whatever interior motive he has is for good.”
Ned suspected him and Vicker…..

“Hey, hey, hey” Benji shouted walking towards Sandra and Vicker.
“Don’t f-cking come closer to me.” Sandra also aimed the gun at him which pinned him at a s₱0t before she directed it back to Vicker.
“Sandra, you’re acting stupid” Julianne began calmly. “Whatever he has done to you, it doesn’t worth taking his life. We, women have passed through a lot and has the strength not only to withstand it but also to move on. So please, bring down the gun.”
Sandra never knew when the lady came to her, taking down her hand slowly. In the process, Julianne saw tears rolling from her eyes. The lab experienced an absolute silence except the gro-ning of the vampires outside.
After letting down the gun, Sandra said with bitterness, “If I see Grace around you again, I’ll kill her.”
Vicker said nothing rather resumed picking up the items with a bag. Anyone he picked up, he’d read out the tag aloud.
“Scandium, palladium, Rihodium, cadmium…”
They were set to leave the lab only to discover that the vampires had surrounded not only their car but also the entrance.
“What do we do now?” Benji asked.
“We move.” Vicker replied.
“Are you okay? Alright, you first.” he stepped away for him but fear never let Vicker move.
“We’re obviously trapped.” Julianne concluded…..
