β™‘πŸ’žCHAPTER 11πŸ–€πŸ’

Mira just sat down in her cell looking so depressed and defeated. Never in her wildest dreams did she think this would happen to her. She has never felt so helpless in her entire life. Now, she cursed the day she met Jayden. She regretted the day she fell for him and accepted to be with him.

She regretted ever knowing. She was not only cheated on , but he also framed her. He gave false accusations against her.

She wiped her tears from her cheeks when she saw a particular figure coming towards her. The person she hated most now.

“Mira” he called out to her in a soft tone. She didn’t even answer him. She brought her knees up to herself and hugged her knees trying to hide her red eyes that were evident because of her tears.

“Am sorry” he whispered so that no one would hear what he had to say.
“I promise you I was helpless . You have to believe me. I didn’t do this on my own will” …. Jayden pleaded trying to understand why he did what he did. His hands were tied in this situation and he wished he could tell her but he can’t..he just can’t.

“You were helpless?” Mira asked with rage slowly rising in her. She looked at his face. Yes, he looked helpless but Mira would never believe him.
“Do you know what you have cost me?…huh…do you?'” she asked half yelling. “What about my mother? Can you Imagine the kind of pain she could be going through seeing her daughter behind bars for something she didn’t do?”….she yelled even louder attracting attention.

“Mira , calm down and listen to me…”

“I don’t want to listen to you. Just get out” she reduced her voice as she didn’t like the attention she had gotten herself . “You disgust me. I don’t want to see your face. You will never be happy Jayden. Never!”…she cursed and went back to sit on the cold floor.

“Mira, am really sorry. I have one day , you’ll understand why I did what I did” …he knew she would never forgive him again but he did this to protect her. He could only hope she would understand him better if she ever found out about it. But this was something he didn’t want her to know about.

“Leave Jayden”… Giving up….he sighed…

“Am leaving the country Mira…am going to Finland and….” Before he could complete his statement, she scoffed….”I don’t care” she growled at him without looking at his face.

Defeated he left….
“I love you mira…”

“Mrs Levenson, for the last time, if you can’t afford my fees then I can’t fight you daughter case” he yelled louder this time at the poor woman in front of him.

“Pls Mr Lewis…I promise….” Before she could complete her pleading, he shouted attracting attention from his fellow lawyers in the office.

“Pls leave my office” ….

With teary eyes, she stood up and left the office. She had gone to about 5 lawyers and all refused helping her cause she didn’t have the money to pay their fees. Their fees ranged between $200 to $350 but she didn’t have such money. Besides, her daughter’s case wasn’t a serious one. Why should they charge high?.
They were simply being wicked and inhumane.

She went home and took the money from her saving box and also withdrew all the money from her bank. Yet it still wasn’t enough to pay the fees. They all added up to $85. She had only one option and that was to borrow money… But who would borrow money to her?

She went to her next door neighbor, aunty Midge who could only give her $15… making it $100. She tried to negotiate with the lawyers but none was willing to take lower than their normal fees .

People began to avoid her all for no reason. It’s not like her daughter was a criminal. They were so stereotypical….and none even cared to lend them a helping hand.

Then a thought struck her. She managed and carry herself to the her house. She has to put her pride away to help her child.

As soon as the cab stopped in front of the small house, she looked at it confused. This wasn’t how she expected the house to look.

“Are you sure this is the house?” She asked the cab driver uncertain. He nodded.

“Everyone knows lady Ri house ma’am” she sighed and gave him his money and proceeded to enter.

She gave a soft knock on the closed door and the door opened on it own. She summoned courage and entered.

“Welcome” lady Ri voice resounded in the house..

(Pls note:-..lady Ri name is actually Rita…lady Ri is a nickname given to her by the neighborhood)

“I’ve actually been expecting you” she took a sip from the bottle of wine in her hand. Mira’s mom could only see her from side view as she sat on the couch. Her little puppy Patty was on her laps as she stroked her fur.

Slowly, Mira’s mom walked towards her direction.
“Stop” Mira’s mom immediately halted as she heard the command
“The mother of a thief doesn’t deserve to walk into my home” her words struck Mira’s mom in the heart to hear her daughter be called names such as a thief.

“My daughter is not a thief” Mira’s mom said boldly.

“Still bold for a woman who is in need of help” lady Ri sounded amused..
She dropped Patty on the floor and then with her empty glass of wine and a bottle of wine in her hands, she walked over to wear Mira’s mom stood.

“Wine?” She offered and Mira’s mom shook her head indicating no.

“So tell me why are you here?” She took a sit on a fancy stool and poured herself another glass of wine.

“Pls I have to request that you take back your complaint to filed” Mira’s mom immediately went straight to the point not wanting to be here any longer .
“You and I know she’s innocent and is probably being framed….” Before she could finish her statement, lady Ri laughed.

She laughed for so long that she had teary eyes.

“And why would I do that? Your daughter deserves to suffer. Innocent you say….she is not innocent. She killed cutie” she pointed at the photo of her cat on the wall.
“I’ll ensure she’s rots in jail for a very long time. She repay what she did to my pet” she laughed like a Maniac and continued her drink.

Mira’s mom stared at her wide eyed. She realized now …what really happened. It was lady Ri that had her daughter framed just because of the death of an ordinary animal.
But she tried to control herself and pull herself together. Maybe she could reason with her to forgive her daughter Even though she was clearly revenging for a crazy reason.

“I promise you….I’ll get you a new pet…”

“I don’t want a new one …I want your daughter to remain behind bars” she growled and stared at her with bloodlust.

“I’ll do anything you want but pls….take back the complaint”…Mira’s mom once more pleaded.

“Fine….then…” Mira’s mom sighed relieved that she relented so quickly.

“I’ll take back the case I filed if you lick my shoe” Mira’s mom looked at her again surprised.

How could see stoop so long to do such.
Yes, right now she was helpless but this woman was trying to hurt her pride and ego.

Her eyes were filled with tears but she had to do it. Slowly going down on her knees she bent and stuck out her tongue to lick her shoes…the moment she did it….lady Ri kicked her hΓ¦rd in the stomach and Mira’s mom laid down flat on the floor…her head having a great impact on the floor as she gr–ned in pains.

The woman cackled evilly…she was happy in seeing the pain Mira’s mom was in.

“Do you feel the pain? That’s exactly how I felt when I saw my cutie on the floor lying dead” she pointed to the place she found cutie dead.

Mira’s mom gr–ned in pains but managed to get up.

“You……you….need help. You are not mentally stable” she managed to say with the unbearable pain.

“Ha!..I need help. Your the one that clearly needs help. Your daughter is in prison while you are in pains. So tell me now who needs help?” She asked sarcastically and watched Mira’s mom struggle to breath and balance herself herself.

“You ought to be in a mental asylum. Your clearly out of your mind. Your a mad woman” Mira’s mom continued to curse her and lady Ri grabbed her chin.

“Watch what you say woman or else you would soon be joining your daughter”.

“You can do nothing. And I’ll get my daughter out of prison. But do something for yourself and visit the asylum. It will do you some good” angry at this last statement, lady Ri grabbed Mira’s mom hands and dragged her outside throwing her on the pouch.

“You just watch as I deal with you . You will regret those words”….

Chapter 12…😣

Lady Ri gritted her teeth hærd. She was filled with anger and hatred.
“Arggggggg” she grabbed the glass of wine and broke it on the ground. Patty, the dog, ran and took cover away from the glasses that shattered everywhere.

“How dare how speak to me like that?” She yelled and grabbed her hair with both her hands.

“I’ll make her regret this” … she began pacing up and down the sitting room… thinking of ways to get back at Mira’s mom…soon….an idea clicked in her head.

Her l-ips curved into an evil smile as she thought of her wicked plans. Picking up her cellphone, she dialed a number.

“Pick up the damn call Zaki” she said in frustration after the fifth ring.
Dialing the number again, he finally picked.

“Hello” his thick voice sounded from the other side of the phone.

“I have a job for you”..
********************

Dusting herself, she got up from the ground in so much pain . But she didn’t have time to think about the pain she was in, just her daughter. She looked at the sky. She was losing daylight and fast too. It was already in the time of evening and she had to hurry up . She couldn’t let her only child sleep in the cell. She wiped her tears and began walking again. Thinking of solution to her problems now.

By the time, she had gotten to her destination, the sky was already dark and she was quite sure he would be here.

Finally she had arrived at his bar. Mr Davis was her last and only option. They used to be close but that was all in the past. Mira’s mom didn’t like remembering her past . It only brought her painful memories and mr Davis was one of them. He ought to around by this time of the night.

Walking slowly into the bar as all eyes turned to her. There…he was sitted in the mist of his fellow men drinking themselves to stupor.

It has always been a wonder why men so much love drinking yet when you ask them, they give no specific answer.

She remembered when she used to ask Mr Davis when they were still together. He had always been a drunk right from when she first met him and it seems like he was never going to change. He’s still the same man she met 25 years back and he would forever remain like that. Mira’s mom also wondered how his wife coped with his drinking habits but that wasn’t her business anyways.

She had long removed herself from anything concerning Mr Davis…well until the day he offered Mira job..
She thought he was just being kind but he had other reasons .

His only luck was that he didn’t touch Mira else …this man would probably be castrated by now…

Finally, she had arrived at his sit.
Mr Davis whistled…”look who’s here” he said and let out a hearty laughter which his friends around him joined.

“Erm….. Mr Davis,..I will like to speak to you in private” she said with her head down not wanting to look at any of men staring at her lustfully.

“Ahhh, Davis . Is she the one you said would be starting work soon. She’s rather too old for this and she doesn’t look pure either” one of them teased as he continued examining Mira’s mom..

“Yes Davis. I was expecting a young, beautiful and fresh flower tonight. Not fairly used” another one chΒ‘pped in and they all bursted into laughter.

“Who knows, she might have come to see if they was any job vacancy for her daughter”… they continue to tease her and laugh at her.

“That’s enough everyone. She ain’t the girl. She’s rather too fragile to handle is don’t you think?” Mr Davis said with a smirk and looked at Mira’s mom satisfied that she was embrassed by their words.
“Maria, what do you have to say that can’t be said in public?..or do you plan to rape me?” He said and another round of laughter came. A man attempted to touch Mira’s mom but she slapped his hand away.

“Whatever you have to say, say it here” he then took a sip at the beer in front of him and waited to hear what she had to say .

“I …..I….need …your help” she stammered…and waited with her head still looking at the floor.

“I didn’t know she’s a stammering” ..one said amused.

Mr Davis just smiled but didn’t answer him…”what for hmmm….?”

“I just….need you to….lend me some money”

“How much?”….

“$100” the moment she stated the amount, all of them jerked in laughter.
The laughter continued for a while before stopping.

“See how she’s saying it as if she can ever repay it”

“Even after a year, you won’t still be able to pay it”.

“Do you think money grows on trees?”..

They continued making fun of her while tears began flowing from her cheeks. All waited to hear Mr Davis answer.

“I don’t have such money with me Maria” he finally spoke.

“Pls…. I’ll repay you back . I promise….”

“Why should I lend you such amount of money?…oh right…your daughter is in the cell…that little thief. Thank God she didn’t work for me …who knows how much she could have stolen from me!!”… He laughed out…

“My daughter is not a thief” she raised her head and shouted at him.

“Don’t you dare raise your voice at me woman” he was already angry …from the look on his face.

“You disgust me Davis” she spat..

He got up and held Mira’s mom by the neck.

“Really!!..” she was slowly suffocating..
“You chose that loser of a husband over me twenty five years ago and look…where is he now?…in the grave…and me, look ….am alive and well. You said I will die Young from drinking but am alive” he cackled but didn’t release his grip on her neck.

Mira’s mom didn’t know which was worst….the foul stench of his mouth or the fact that she was slowly dieing..

“Let her go Davis. You don’t want to kill her”

“Remember the police are looking for you.”

” If you kill her , you will attract attention to yourself”…

Listening to his friends, he let go of her neck and threw her on the floor..

“Get out before I do something I’ll regret”..

With tears…Mira’s mom slowly got up and ran..
