A s–xual health intructor once hilariously said “If God had intended us not to masturbate, He would have made our arms shorter. Masturbation is a meditation on self-love and the primary s–xual activity of mankind”

Why am I talking about this? Lucy! The poor girl was way addicted to the act that she could not think straight for once. She flung her butt to the window of their living room in a short fairy spaghetti-hand gown. She slid aside the window curtain, watching her brother Kester, briskly entering into his car after giving him the information about the mind reader. Bemused, she left the window, standing beside a centre table where she began to think straight for once.

Lucy isn’t fair neither is she dark nor fat. She’s an ebony with an evidence of good living all over her. Oh, yes, thanks to her only brother, Kester who had been taking good care of her, of course, with drug money. She wears a noice ring and always weaved her hair boldly and neatly. As she stood woozy in the living room, one could see her n–ples well punctured through the gown. Suddenly, she saw the door opened. That was her brother, coming back.

“I thought you were going somewhere, Kester.” she placed one of her hands on her w–st.

“Just wanted to get something from the car.” Kester replied with a hand on the doorknob. “Come help me prepare something. I’m hungry.” He added, walking into the kitchen where Lucy joined him. “So you were talking about a mind reader at your school. What’s his name?”

Lucy glanced at him from the kitchen sink. “A mind reader? Did I say something about that?” she cleverly denied because she suspected something suspicious after giving the information earlier. That was a good move by Lucy.

“But you just said you have a classmate who’s a mind reader and was expelled which after the expulsion was lifted ” Kester stared at her sister who seemed absentminded, washing a plate thereby keeping her brother in suspense in the long stretched tranquility.

“It’s just a rumour, Kester. Moreover, I don’t know his name.” She broke the silence without looking at him.

Kester, being a smart bad boy understood the move taken by his sister. Therefore, he ignored her and averted his eyes.

“So when are you getting, married?” Lucy changed the topic and looked at him, but Kester never said a word.

The next day at school dismissal, students troop out from the main building with bags behind them. Some held a few books in their hands too. At the school gate was Kester in black hoody and a face cap, behaving like a ghost. He had his beard trimmed with a trace of gray colour in some of them. It wasn’t old age but a hereditary trait. in,side the pocket of the hoody was a gun. Suddenly, a student approached and he asked him, “Hey, boy, where is the mind reader?”

“You mean Crucifix?” the boy asked and turned, pointing his finger ninety degree. “That’s him over there with the three girls.” he added and walked away.

Kester narrowed his vision to see a boy smiling broadly in the midst of the girls. Of course, those were Margret, Alice and Rose. The way Crucifix became friends with them was nothing to write home about. The boy always finds his way through difficulties. Notwithstanding, Kester approached from the gate with a hand in,side his pocket. He covered his head with the hoody. Just as he wanted to bring out the gun, he saw Lucy, joining the three girls, so he retreated. The girl has unknowingly saved the mind reader who had no idea of the people after him.

“Hey, guys.” Lucy called their attention. “We’re going home without getting half of the math score. We should be having an extra lesson for that.”

“Not for me. My score is ninety-nine percent” Margret boastfully waved her hands in the air.

“But I still don’t get it!” Crucifix seemed confused. “What would x and y be doing in mathematics?” He complained bitterly.

“They are unknown variables.” Rose replied.

Alice mockingly looked at her. “Answered by someone who got thirty percent.” she said.

“Well, I’m still better than you.” she fired back.

“I’m the worst dude on Math. I got ten percent!” Crucifix lamented. “I guess Margret should do something about that?”

“No, with you, she can’t do anything. You’ll be all over her mind.” Lucy objected jokingly. They all laughed.

“Like seriously, my love, how do you do it?” Crucifix looked at Margret who had started blushing already.

“I don’t know how to answer that. ” she began, smiling sheepishly. “When solving a simple equation, think of the equation as a balance, with the equals sign being the fulcrum or center. Thus, if you do something to one side of the equation, you must do the same thing to the other side. If it’s a quadratic equation, put all terms on one side of the equal sign, leaving zero on the other side then factorize using factorization method.”

“I guess I have to always be in your mind in every math class for me to understand.” Crucifix suggested.

Margret grabbed his shirt violently with a trace of smile on her face. “You dare not for any reason read my mind or I’ll crush you.” she warned

“You mean like right now that your mind is telling you to k-s me?”

“Damn! Did you just read my mi…”

Crucifix put the remaining words back to her mouth by k-sing her. Of course she reciprocated. The evidence could be seen in her hands which she gently rubbed on the side of his head down to his ear. Meanwhile, the remaining girls smiled especially Lucy. Margret quit the k-s. Her voice came curly like a sour throat patient. “Get the hell out from my mind.”

Just then, Kenny bounced around. All watched him as he disdainfully glanced at Crucifix. He was always on a bogus jean polo shirt with a handkerchief tied round his head. He is tall, handsome and full of swag. He pointed at Crucifix. “You nigga think you can influence people anyhow and get away with it.”

“What did I do?” Crucifix asked sincerely.

“You’re trying to come between my Rose and I. Nigga, she’s been acting weird because of you.”

“Kenny, you caused it!” Rose interfered. “Why did you and Caleb selfishly use the information I secretly gave you? Disguise is a big crime!”

Kenny reached her hand to pulled her way from her friends, but Rose restrained. “You choose these niggas over me, babe?” he placed a hand on his chest as tension increased among them. At that moment, Caleb drove around and pulled over in from of them.

“Let’s go, Kenny!” he said from the driver’s seat.

Kenny looked at Crucifix. “Tighten up your shoes, motherf–ker.” he joined Caleb before they drove away.

Margret began to look down at Crucifix’ shoes who noticed and asked immediately, “Are you checking if my shoes aren’t well tightened as he said?”

She nodded her head with a smile.

Crucifix chuckled. “Baby girl, his statement it’s a metaphor! It literally means I should get ready. You see, I may not be good in math but I’m the best in English.”

“Don’t go there, Mr wood chopper.” Alice interfered. “I’m better than you in English.”she challenged as all began to walk again.

Crucifix looked at her. “You came up with the brain being better than the mind, I won you even though I wasn’t there.”

“Whoooaaa!” Lucy rejoiced, remembering the moment.

“Alice, okay, tell me..” Crucifix began. “What figure of speech is ‘i have a million things to do this weekend’?”

“You can’t possibly have a million things to do so the figure of speech is hyperbole.” she answered correctly. “Stop challenging me, young man.” she added while they all laughed.

However, Kester followed Crucifix in his car until the boy got home. He parked at a distance, watching the boy enter into his house. Just as he monitored, another car pulled over in front of the local building. He saw three men coming out of the car. One of them wore a suit with a stick of weed in his hands.

Seeing the men, Geb looked up at them from a bench outside where he was reading a newspaper.

“Hi, good evening. My name is Ero.” The one on suit said.

“Welcome, and who do you want?” Geb asked him.

“A boy.” he turned to see Crucifix standing at the door. “Oh, there he is.”

“What are you doing here?!” Crucifix frowned.

“To make me more money tonight.”

“I won’t do that. We had a deal and it’s over. I’m done with you ”

Ero smiled, blew off a smoke as he walked towards the poor boy. His voice was fierce and dangerous. “You do not decide when to be done with me. I do. I know everything about you; this is your only Grandpa and there’s this girl you’re dying for. What’s her name? Oh, Margret. You see, if you want peace, and when I say peace, I mean no blood shed, just come at the casino tonight to make me more money.” He turned and walked back to his car.

Holy shit! Crucifix has entered into a big problem and he has extended it to Margret. Just as the boy stared at the vanished car, the grandfather stood up with his staff which he held wrongly like a teacher holding a cane. Seeing that, Crucifix distance himself from him.

“You went to a Casino?” Geb began. “I wanted to ask you where you go money you used to buy phone and expensive clothes. Now I know. You use your ability to gamble and get money. How dare you, Crucifix! A stubborn mind conduces as little to wisdom or even to knowledge, as a stubborn temper to happiness. Stubbornness is like setting yourself on a path with your eyes closed. In other words, you are not seeing and listening for information that is available to help you make right decisions. The primary information you are missing is information from others and information from your own internal voice.” The man walked back to the bench. “If you feel you’ve become a man, you will do it somewhere else, not under my roof. Follow your path” he concluded and opened the newspaper.

Stunned, Crucifix took a step forward. “Are you in any way saying I should leave your house?” he asked.

Geb remained mute. Of course that was what he said and he meant it.

“My ability isn’t a curse! I’ve kept it secret for years, used it properly like a good boy, yet it has brought nothing to me but frustration and embarrassment!!! What’s my ability if I can’t use it to get what I want even if I’m not proud of it!! You’re making it look as if I’ve done the worst thing ever!!” Crucifix swallowed hærd, breathing hastily with trace of tears engulfing his eyes. He entered into the house and came out with a package. He took his bicycle and rode away, followed by Kester again. The boy’s life was gradually changing. Ero was on him, the drug lords were on him too and his grandfather just relieved him from his shelter.

Frustratingly, he dumbed his bicycle in front of Nelson’s residence to Kester’s amazement. He walked to the door and didn’t knock twice before it opened. That was Raina at the door staring at Crucifix again after many days of not hearing or seeing him. Both remained quiet at the door because they seemed to be communicating more with their eyes than their mouths.

“Hi, Raina?” Crucifix broke the silence.

“Hi, look at who remembered me today.” She left the door open. “Come in. My parents aren’t around.” she added, going back to the cushion where she sat before the unexpected visitor came. She was on a bomshort.

“I brought this for you.” Crucifix handed the package to her and sat down on a different cushion.

Raina kept glancing at him with a smile as she was opening the package. “Wow! Snickers!” she exclaimed. “Thank you, Cruusss…” She paused when she really took a very good look at him. Quickly, she dropped the snickers on the floor and went to him in a way she sat very close to him, still staring into his eyes. “What’s the problem, Crucifix?” she asked calmly.

The boy chuckled. “What are you talking about, Raina?” he returned the question.

“Come on” she held his arm. “I may not be a mind reader, but I know when you’re bothered. You can’t hide it around me ”

Crucifix exhaled and his mood changed immediately. He bent his head down, raised it up, bent it again then stood up. Quickly, Raina stood up with him too, still waiting for him to talk. Finally, Crucifix turned to her saying, “I’ll be fine, Raina. I just came by to apologise to you for not reciprocating your love…”

“f–k your love! Tell me what’s bothering you, Cross!” the girl interrupted.

Crucifix swallowed hærd. “Raina, you’re a good person. No amount of gift will be enough to show you how grateful I am for your care, kindness, even love. I will never forget that. I even thought you’ll slap me or ignore me when I came here, but you welcome me with a smile.” He gently grabbed Raina’s two cheeks and k-sed her forehead. Already, the poor girl had started shedding tears uncontrollably as Crucifix began to walk away.

“Cross, please, don’t go.” she cried, stretching her hand forward. “Please, I beg you, Cross, don’t leave me. I have the feeling I’m not gonna see you again. Please, just stay with me. I do not need your love anymore. Just tell me what’s bothering you and I’ll help.”

Regardless, Crucifix opened the door with tears too. Oh, the boy didn’t even know why he was shedding those tears. So many things in his head! Stepping outside the house, he heard Raina’s voice crying seriously. Nevertheless, he adjusted his shirt, dried his tears and hurried to his bicycle. Speedy, he rode to the casino…..

On the other hand, Kester, Nelsen and Adams assembled in the warehouse. All were in a standing position as Kester narrated thus, “…i followed the kid to his house and to your house!” he pointed at Mr. Nelson.

“My house? The mind reader went to my house?” The man fearfully asked.

“What’s his name?” Mr. Adams asked.

“Uhm…” Kester looked at the roof to remember. “Yeah, Crucifix.”

“Crucifix?” The two men repeated at once to Kester’s surprise.

“You both know him?”

“He’s a friend to my daughter” Mr. Nelson replied.

“He’s my daughter’s boyfriend.” Mr. Adams also said.

“Holy shit!!” Kester chuckled. “You mean the small boy is f–king your daughters! Motherf–ker!! I guess both of you are being played here. That kid may be from the police. He might be a secret agent of the police who gives them Intel about you. And you know he’s a mind reader. How can he know both of your daughter at once? It’s not a coincidence!”

“That kid needs to go down now! Kester, handle that tonight.” Mr. Nelsen concluded and walked out with a hand in one of his pockets…..
