I sit down on the living room chair, it’s been three good years since I came here,
one of the things I really enjoy doing here is looking at the picture album, I try to remember where it’s kept, on a shelf near the stereos, I cleaned off the dust and settled to feed my eyes, I already have an idea of what I’ll see, they’ll hurt but I just want to reminisce, to look at it once more, no matter how much it hurts, I need to see the happy moments.
I opened the first page, Keith’s graduation 🎓 party at nursery school, he looks so cute wearing his graduation gown, I try to find my own picture but I can’t see it, something is wrong, after Keith’s single picture, the next picture is the one that we took together, maybe it got misplaced, I’m sure I’ll still see my picture there if I keep viewing.
But to my amazement I can’t find my picture anywhere there, why did he remove all of my pictures from the family album!
Does keith really hate me that much 😩
Mrs Merrick comes out of the house and I drop the picture album
” Sasha you’re here ”
She said and I smiled, she looks frail but what pleased me immensely is that she still recognizes me even with her Alzheimer’s
Even after all these years, Mrs Merrick’s love for me hasn’t changed, she is my second momma
It shocked me that she would refer to Keith as Adam when he was about to walk into his room and she would ask him to get happy hour for me.
” ah, I feel like eating rice ” Mrs Merrick said
Oh I think it’s an opportunity to make myself useful here!
I just want to help my momma
Sasha you know you can’t cook!
A voice in,side my head whispered but I choose to ignore it
I waltzed into the kitchen
” I’ll go and get Daniel from school ”
Keith said to no one in particular

I smiled all the way home from school, even my little sister noticed it as she accosted me on the way
” sister Erica did you win lotto 🎫 ”
Juliet asks
” hmm Juliet what I won is more than lotto ”
” hmm tell me and before I forget, I have good news for you ”

” daddy got you a new phone but don’t do like I told you anything oh ”
I jumped up in giddy excitement, I high-five Juliet several times
” tell me how does this phone look like ”
” hmm it’s brand new, in,side big carton like this ehn ”

That means it’s a very big phone
” hmm, let me go and get what mom sent me, when I come back you must tell me what is making you smile ”
Juliet said before racing off happily

Immediately I entered the house, I met mom’s disapproving look, at least I’ve been good for the past days or haven’t I?
” I advised your father that he shouldn’t get it for you but he just wouldn’t listen to me, here this is it ( she hands me the phone ) if you like let thief steal it and come here and start forming lie that one girl in your school has supernatural powers did this and that ”
This is not a big carton na

Daniel said immediately we got to the front door
I was about to answer him when I noticed the smokes coming out from our house
I opened the door in a frantic rush and I saw mom sleeping peacefully on the three sitter chair
I went into the kitchen and I saw Sasha singing absent mindedly, there was a big pot on the gas cooker and it was filled to the brim with vegetable oil.
The oil was bringing out smokes and it was obvious that it was going to explode very soon, I tried to warn her to stop whatever nonsense she thinks she is doing
Before I could form a word, she carries a bowl of unwashed rice and dumps it into the hot oil and the pot went into flames
My anger was replaced with something else, alarm! Fright!! Panic!!!, I couldn’t see her face, what if she had gotten burnt by the fire
” Sasha!!!!!!!”
I scre-med at the top of my lungs, I looked blindly for the fire extinguisher and I succeeded in quenching the fire, then I saw her crouching down and shielding her face, the concern disappeared immediately and I lashed out angrily at her
” you idiot, what did you think you’re doing, wasting our oil like that, can’t you cook ordinary rice, what if I didn’t come here, would you have burned down the house ”
I was surprised when she flinched, her hands only shielded her face further and she said in a sad voice
” I’m sorry… I wanted …to cook fried rice ”
Who cooks fried rice like that!
I am really angry about the oil, it was ironic, a week ago, it wouldn’t have mattered to me if she used a wh0le yellow keg of oil but now, the five litre keg she used would affect us a lot
” you’re dumb Sasha, you’re just dumb!! You’re a girl for crying out loud, why are you just so useless!, if I had known you were going to do something as stupid as this, I wouldn’t have allowed you to come in at all ”
I begin to prepare a new rice
” I’m sorry Keith, I should go, I’m not helping matters and by the way, you shouldn’t have removed all my pictures from the family album, I had no idea that you hated me that much and I’ve always told you that what happened three years ago isn’t my fault but you never listen to me ”
She said and made for the door,
I was almost tempted to call her, to listen to her explanation about what happened three years ago but I refrained myself, I know she is only going to lie about it.
I was surprised to find her in the living room, laughing with mom, a huge grin was on mom’s face, something I haven’t seen on her face for a while
” I’m sorry I.. I… Wanted to leave but mom said I should stay and talk with her and…. ” Sasha said gloomily as I stepped into the living room with a tray of food in my hands for mom
” Adam, why are you such a monster, how can you send Sasha away, Sasha my dear, don’t listen to him, you must come and see me everyday my dear, Adam doesn’t let me go out, he is isolating me, he doesn’t let me cook, he doesn’t let me do anything, is it fair, tell me is it fair ”
” no ma! It isn’t fair ”
Sasha said, how can she try to interfere with our family issues, did she know what the doctor said!
” Adam, it’s only my food you brought, what about Sasha’s own ”
I flinch everytime she calls me Adam, it reminds me of my father and the gruelling horrors that we went through in his hands, then why couldn’t mom see me, why does she keep seeing the monster
Why should I get Sasha any food
” she is not hungry mom ”
I said swiftly
As if on cue, her stomach made a noise and she screwed up her face in discomfort
” Sasha eat my food, don’t mind Adam, mom carries the tray and places on Sasha’s laps, she hesitated for a second before dipping the spoon into the rice and eating with relish
Ah!
” Adam, what are you waiting for, make me another rice ”
Mom orders

I tossed and turned restlessly on my bed,

I jolted upright from the bed and blink several times to get my bearings, I saw two faces, at first it was a blur but it became clearer

I checked the time and I realize that I’ve overslept
Is that the reason why the two of them are looking so murderously angry
” Viktor I never knew you’re such a bastard! ”
Quinton said as his fist connects with my face, what the hell is that for
” Viktor you’re mad, I feel like killing you, how could you do such a thing ”
Quentin also said
” what did I do! ”
I said in annoyance, whatever they’re doing, I’m not finding it funny at all, it’s too early for jokes.
” I just came to tell you that you and I should go our separate ways, we’re no longer going to school together, in fact we’re no longer doing anything together ”
I can even presume that Quinton is high on something but Quentin too?
” you’re asking about what you did, were you blind when you were announcing to the wh0le world that you’re g-y, as I’m looking at you I feel like killing you I swear! ”
Quinton said and I gasped in shock

How can I announce that I’m g-y when I’m not mad
” Viktor, don’t you know what it means to be labelled as a g-y in the school, you’ll be a personal non grata, everyone will start looking at your friends as if they are some kind of boyf**ker, it would have been easier to disbelieve if someone else accused you of it but this one is coming right out of your own mouth ” Quentin said
“I didn’t do anything like that!!!!”

Quinton brings out his phone, wait who edited my picture like this, how come there’s a wig on my head, why am I even wearing makeup in this picture, which bastard did this
Anger overwhelmed me
I read the words underneath it
