CHAPTER 6

Landon smirked staring at Kimberly as she stormed back towards him in anger.

“You think I would stoop so low to be your maid? Do I look like a maid to you?” Kim roared in anger.

“No, you don’t. But it looks like you don’t have a choice, considering your credentials and…” He started looking at her from head to toe.

“There Is always a choice! And none of it involves being your maid!” She smacked rushing back to the door when she remembered her cash was still with him.

She stopped biting her lower l-ips in regret before turning to look at him again.

“My money.” She said stretching forth her hand and walking to his table.

“Is that how to talk to someone that saved your an*s from trekking all the way home?” Landon asked standing up and walking to her with the USD 25 In his hands.

“Haven’t you done enough! Why are you frustrating me!” Kim yelled and before she knew it tears rolled down her face and Landon arched his brows.

“Woah. Didn’t see that coming.” He said with a smirk and Kim looked away feeling so ashamed of herself.

“Give me the money, and let me go.” She muttered with her palm stretched towards him.

Landon getting irritated about the wh0le thing already, dipped his hand in his pocket and pulled out some money, added it to the USD 25, and placed it on her palm.

“There you go. Get yourself dinner with it. I think I am generous enough.” He said and walked back to his seat with a grin.

Kim looked at her palm and saw there was more than her money there. She looked up at Landon and saw he was enjoying himself.

She picked up her own USD 25 and threw the rest back at him, making it scatter all over the tiled floor.

“I am not begging for your filthy money a*sh0le!” She smacked finally storming out of the office leaving Landon dumbstruck.

“Did she just return that huge amount of money she certainly needs because of her ego?” Landon asked himself unbelievably.

Kimberly walked out of the company fuming in anger, everyone that passed by her noticed this and they couldn’t help but murmur things to themselves.

A side of Kimberly wanted that money because she needed it. But the order side, which is Kimberly Johnson’s real side would never take sh*t from anyone.

The last thing she wanted was for her to owe that b**ch. She preferred to go to bed without food than make Landon feel she needed his help.

She got to the Garage before she knew it, and took a cab going into Golden City. Right there in the cab, she pulled out her phone and began to check out her messages. She needed something to get her mind off the bad day she had.

She got just two messages, it wasn’t that surprising though. She wasn’t the social type.

The first was from her ‘way too busy to visit’ friend, and the other from her mother.

She decided to check the one from her friend first. She opened it and saw she was just asking about her and that was all.

“I am not so good Danielle, can you please call me? I am yet to recharge my line, and I don’t think I would be doing that soon.” She replied saying out the words as she typed them.

She went ahead to check her mum’s own and read to herself.

“Kimberly you need to send some money to the house, your father is in the hospital and he needs a kidney transplant. I have sent all I have on his bills, and there is still a lot more to pay. We need money to save your father’s life!” She read inwardly and tears rolled down her eyes, some teardrops dropping on the screen of her phone.

“Oh God, why is my life so miserable? Where do I get money for father’s bills.” She mumbled drawing the attention of the driver.

“Ma’am, are you ok?” He asked looking at her through the mirror of his car.

“Yeah. I am fine.” She replied in haste cleaning her eyes, but the tears won’t just stop dropping.

She threw her phone in her bag in frustration, not knowing what to do. All she could think of was if she didn’t return that money, she would have sent it to mother.

And she couldn’t even think of going back to him, that would be a slap on her face and she would never let that happen.

“Sir, can I use your cellphone for some minutes please?” She asked the driver who nodded drawing out his phone from his pockets.

“Thanks.” Kim said. She dialed her mother’s number on his phone and put a call across to her.

“Hey, Mom. I got your text.” She said as soon as her mother picked up.

“Hey, do you have the money now? I am in the hospital presently.” She replied staring into the ward through the door, looking at her helpless husband.

“Not yet mother. I went out to search for a job today, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get one. I am so sorry, but I have nothing on me right now.” Kim replied and her mother got frustrated.

“Why are you doing this to us! Why do you want to be useless to us and yourself? Kim you are not making us happy! You are making us regret all we have done for you, to make you a better person Kimberly.” Her mother said out of pain and anger and Kimberly burst into more tears, covering her mouth with her palm and shutting her eyes as she wept.

“I am sorry Mom.” She replied weeping seriously.

“Be sorry for yourself, for been useless to yourself. You know your grades can’t secure a job for you, yet you still waste time carrying it all around!” Mrs. Johnson said and Kimberly got exactly where she was going.

“Mother, I am not getting married to Alexander. I don’t love him.” Kim said.

“You don’t have to love him! We need his money! And you can help us for once in your life if you say yes to him! Think about it, and don’t call if you want to be helpful.” She smacked and cut off the call.
Kimberly was so down and cried like it was her last.

“Ma’am, please take it easy okay?” The driver said and she nodded stretching his phone to him.

“Thank you so much.” Kim said and he nodded.

“Instead of crying, I would advise you do something to solve your problems. Crying isn’t the best thing to do now.” He said and Kim raised her head to look at him.

“Thank you.” She said and he nodded.

After some minutes of silent sobbing for Kimberly, the car stopped and she looked up.

“We are here.” The driver said to Kim and she smiled faintly.

“Thank you.” She said dipping her hand in her bag to give him his money but then he stopped her.

“It’s fine Ma’am. I would be a monster to accept that from you after hearing all that.” He said and this made Kimberly cry even more.

“Thank you so much. I never thought I would eat tonight.” She said happily and sad at the same time.

“Get yourself something to eat. You can’t think with an empty stomach.” He said and she nodded smiling.

“Thank you so much.” She said highlighting and he nodded. As soon as she was out, she waved him goodbye and he waved her too before finally driving off.

The smile on her face faded as she stood in front of her house and stared at it.

“Back to where I started.” She thought walking into the house.

CHAPTER 7

Landon took a warm shower feeling so tired after his stressful but amazing day. He fell on his bed with his shorts on staring at the ceiling.

A smile crept on his face as soon as he remembered the wh0le drama of the day. His day has never is so fun.

He loved the way he frustrated Kimberly, though he had never had anyone’s time the way he had Kimberly’s.

He sprang to his feet filled with the desire to know about her. He walked to his table where his PC laid.

He switched it on and went online in search of about her. Luckily for him, he caught a glimpse of her names so he used the search engine.
“Kimberly Johnson.” He typed and it brought out almost everything about her. Her Facebook handle also came on the screen.

He clicked on her Facebook account and it brought out her profile. The school she graduated from, and her location. Her pictures and her phone number.

He clicked on her profile photo and smiled as soon as he got a clearer look at her face. She had some slight makeup on and had red lΒ‘pstick.
She was a beauty with a lot of Ego.

He checked her location and it brought it out. It was a street in Golden City. He then copied her phone number on his phone and dialed it.
He just wanted to know if it was still working or not.

Kimberly who was busy eating the pizza she ordered in sadness heard her phone ring. She picked up the phone and checked the caller to see it was an unknown number.

She didn’t want to pick up because she wasn’t in the mood, then she remembered it could be one of the companies she has been to that promised to call her.

“But why would they call at past ten in the night?” She asked herself before finally picking up.

“Hello.” She said calmly and as soon as Landon heard her voice he hung up smiling.

“So this is her number.” He said to himself saving the number with ‘Egocentric Kimberly Johnson.’

He smiled after saving it and walked back to his bed to sleep.
Kimberly tossed her phone to the other side of the table in frustration.

“Whosoever is joking with me should better stop because I ain’t in the mood for shit right now.” She mumbled as she began to play with her pizza.

Her phone rang again and she hit the table in anger.

“What the hell!” She yelled reaching for her phone. She planned on yelling at the person Immediately she picked up but she was calm when she was it was Danielle Calling.

She sighed and picked up sitting on her chair again.

“Hey Babe, you asked me to call. What’s up?” Danielle said sounding very tired.

“Danielle. I am not good at all.” Kim replied in a shaky tone.

“What’s wrong? You sound sad.” Danielle replied worriedly.

“I came back the same Danielle. Even outside Golden City, they don’t want me. I spent all the money I had on me, and if not for the generous taxi driver, I wouldn’t have dinner this night.” Kim said and Danielle sighed.

“Kimberly, don’t you think you have done enough of going around with your credentials? Why not start something by yourself without the use of your certificate.” She suggested and Kim sighed.

“It’s not that easy. Before I can do that I need capital, and I have nothing on me. I have only USD 10 on my presentation, which implies I can’t go out tomorrow, and I can’t send anything home for my sick father’s bills.” Kim lamented in tears.

“I am so sorry Kim, I should be there with you now.” Danielle said sadly.

“No, it’s fine. I know you are too busy with work and you can’t jeopardize that.” Kim said making Danielle feel bad.

“I can help you with some money but you will have to refund because I don’t have much on me too. I should not be asking you but things are also tight for me. I am so sorry.” She said and Kim’s eyes wΒ‘dened in happiness.

“No, it’s fine! I will refund it. But it may take some time, I would have to find something to do.” Kim said.

“You need to be fast about finding a job, Kim. I hate the way things are with you, babe. I will send the money to your bank account now.” Danielle said and Kim smiled widely.

“Thank you so much, Danielle. I love you so much, thanks for always been there.” Kim stated and Danielle smiled.

“Talk to you soo,.” Dan said and she hung up.

Kim looked up with a smile on her face.

“Thank you, God. At least, I would send something to Mother.” She thought happily. Her phone beeped and she quickly reached for it and checked her screen to see it was a notification from Google.

She hissed and was about to ignore it when she saw it was from Landon Hernandez’s news. The one she read earlier at the restaurant.
She clicked on it and she saw the headline.

“A HOUSEHELP NEEDED”

She read aloud and scoffed.

She scrolled down and saw that more than 2,000 people were interested, both female and male.

“Woah, why are many people so interested in this kind of job?” She asked herself reading through the news and then her eyes caught with the pay.

“OMG!! USD 600!! Just to be a maid?? That’s f**king huge!” She exclaimed.

No wonder there are so many people interested.

“Should I apply?” She asked herself knowing she may not even see up to that in a company due to her grades.

“No! I can’t! Landon Hernandez would feel so full of himself when he learns I applied.” She thought shaking the thoughts of enrolling again.

Then she remembered her father’s state in the hospital and she knew she had to do something. She bit her fingers anxiously and then made a decision.

She would keep her pride aside for her father and enroll. And after a month, she would leave after collecting her salary. Then she can start her own mini business with that.

“Okay. You should do this Kim. Your Father needs this more than you, and you can’t get married to Alexander because of money. So this is the only choice you get.” She said breathing in and out before clicking on the button with had interested in it.

It brought out a form for her to fill and she filled every space without hesitation. She got to the last part of the doc-ments without even reading the terms and conditions.

She was too desperate to start reading two pages of what to do and what not to do. She believed it would be normal so she got to space for her signature and she signed on it.

She scrolled down and then saw the two more spaces which were meant to be signed by an unknown man to her and Landon Hernandez.

“So much stress for an anticipating House help.” She mumbled switching off her phone. She threw the rest of the pizza in the fridge and walked to her room.

“Oh Lord let me be picked as the maid! I need this more than any of them. And please don’t let Landon Hernandez act like a d**k when Iget therer cos I won’t be able to take it.” She prayed before finally slamming into the bed.

She breathed out loud placing her two hands on her belly before finally shutting her eyes to sleep.
