Authoress’ pov 👠

Nicklaus steps into his office and… he’s surprised to see Marcus already waiting for him in,side.

“Why didn’t you tell me you’re already in my office when I called you?” He asked Marcus.

Marcus laughs lightly.

“Well, I wanted to give you a surprise!”

Nicklaus sits on his chair, he reaches for his coffee which Claudia has made before his arrival.

He takes a sip and drops it back.

“Did you get the info I sent you?” Nicklaus asked.

“Yeah but wait… I wanna know why you’re asking about Nina’s family’s accident?”

“Remember I told you about Anastasia having Nina’s picture?”

Marcus nods anxiously, like he can’t wait to hear what Nicklaus wanna say.

“Actually, she’s Nina!”

“What?!” Marcus yells.

But he tones his voice down when Nicklaus throws him a glare.

“How did that happen? Are you sure about what you’re saying?”

“Yeah, I questioned her, she said is the little girl in the picture.. but she seemed to have amnesia!”

Marcus just stares at Nicklaus with doubtful eyes.

“Are you sure she’s Nina.. are you sure she’s really.. truly her?”

“Yes! I’m very sure!” Nicklaus replied.

“Then tell me how you find out!”

Nicklaus eyes him but takes a deep breath and begin.

“What?! You asked her to be your contract girlfriend?!” Marcus exclaimed.

Nicklaus had just finished briefing him about Nina’s case.

“You just blew up your chance, Nick! You could have just told her the truth!”

Nicklaus leans back on his chair and raised an eyebrow at him.

“You should have told her that she and Nina are one and the same person…”

He stares at Nicklaus unbelievably.

“….You could have told her she’s your fiancee instead of making her your contract girlfriend!”

“No!” Nicklaus said.

“What do you mean no? Wasn’t sure your fiancee? You’ve been searching for her…to the extent you became allergic to women…and now that you’ve found her, you’re making her your contract girlfriend?!”

Nicklaus sighs and pushes himself a little off his chair.

“She is indeed my fiancee but I can’t tell her that.. she doesn’t remember anything!”

“Oh!”

“Besides, I don’t think she’s the reason I’m allergic to women!”

Marcus rolls his eyes.

“If she’s not the reason, then why is she the only one that can touch you?”

Nicklaus doesn’t say anything.

“You became allergic to women after that incident…after you lost contact with her!”

At this point Nicklaus knows Marcus is telling the truth..he nods slowly.

“Well…If I tell her about our engagement, she’ll think I’m lying… she will think I wanna force her into a relationsh¡p with me!”

Marcus nods as he finds Nicklaus’s explanation reasonable too.

“So what’s your plan by making her your contract girlfriend?”

“To make her fall in love with me again.. slowly.. naturally!” Nicklaus said and smiles.

Marcus gasp and points at him with a surprise expression.

“Did you just smile?”

Nicklaus quickly wipes off his smile and wears a blank expression.

“No!” Nicklaus denies.

“I saw it, you smiled”

“I didn’t!”

Just as Marcus is surprised, Nicklaus is also surprised.

He can’t remember when was the last time he smiled… he’s always keep a blank expression and became cold… since that incident!

The incident that took both Nina and his dad from him.

“Contract girlfriend… seriously?”

Nicklaus rolls his eyeballs, he knows Marcus won’t let go of this contract girlfriend stuff….until he’s had enough.

“Well…er…I was a little speechless after I found out she’s my Nina…I think straight..that was the only thing I could come up with to keep her by my side then!” Nicklaus defends himself.

Marcus laughs lightly.

“I can’t imagine you being in love at what…13?!” Marcus whisper yells.

Nicklaus gro-ns and facepalm himself…he begins to question himself how he manage to be friends with someone like Marcus.

“So…was she in love with you then too?”

Nicklaus stays silent for a brief moment.

“That is something I didn’t find out then…she was just 8years old then! But she loves playing with me a lot!”

Marcus’s eyes grows wide and his mouth hangs open too.

“8 years old?! You were engaged to an 8 years old girl?!”

“Bring your voice down, our families were close and they did it to merge our companies…but Nina’s family suddenly disappears after the engagement!” Nicklaus explained.

Marcus nods in understanding…he didn’t know about the details because he met Nicklaus when they’re both 14…Nicklaus had always talked about Nina to him then.

Nicklaus clears his throat.

“About the accident… What have you find out?” He asked.

Marcus shakes his head and shrugs.

“Nothing for now!”

“Nothing?” Nicklaus frowns. “I wanna know what happened… How did Nina end up becoming broke?”

There’s a short silence.

“Keep digging, until you find something!”

“Yes, Mr Statham!” Marcus said.

Nicklaus stands up with his hands in his pocket.

“You keep digging… while I think of ways to make my Nina.. no, my Anastasia fall in love with me.. again!”

Marcus starts hooting and wagging his brows at Nicklaus teasingly..

Nicklaus bites his inner cheek to stop him from blushing, he doesn’t understand why he’s suddenly feeling the need to blush.

“Carry on with your work, I’m leaving!”

“Are you leaving me alone in your office?” Marcus asked.

“I’m going for a meeting… See yourself out!”

Marcus gets up quickly and rushes to the door before Nicklaus.

“Ungrateful brat! Rude imp!” And he runs off.

Nicklaus shakes his head and head out.

Just outside the meeting room, Nicklaus phone rings.. it’s a Graham.

“Graham!” Nicklaus receives the call.

“Mr Statham, the private guards you arranged for Miss Lopez just called!”

Nicklaus withdraws his hand that was going for the door’s knob.

“What happened?”

“Miss Lopez left the shop in a hurry and…”

“Where did she go?” Nicklaus asked… A deep frown appears on his forehead.

“LA city hospital”

Nicklaus hangs up and turns to hurry off but Claudia stops him.

“Mr Statham.. every of the board members are here.. they are all waiting for you!”

Nicklaus closes his eyes and grits his teeth.

“Tell them the meeting is cancelled!”

“But Mr….” Nicklaus rushes off before she could find.

Anastasia’s pov 👠

I hurriedly paid the taxi driver without caring about the change… and breathlessly rush into the hospital.

My feet moving in a flashing speed as I approach doctor Hemsworth’s office.

I’m silently praying I shouldn’t hear any bad news.. Denzel should be alright… nothing should happen to him now that I’ve find solution!

“… don’t do it again, speaking ill of others is bad!”

I met doctor Hemsworth scolding a fat boy when I entered his office… the boy seems to be the same age as Denzel.

My eyes glance around until they find aunt bandaging Denzel’s knuckles.

I frown! What the heck happened?! I rushed towards them.

“Aunt!”

She stops and raise her head, she smiles when she sees me.

“Anna, what are you doing here? Who called you?” She asked in a whisper.

I guess she doesn’t wanna disturb doctor Hemsworth scolding the fat boy.

“Doctor Hemsworth did!” I whisper back.

She glares playfully at doctor Hemsworth and shakes her head.

“I told him not to disturb you, this man!”

I look back to the fat boy, a woman is standing behind him with her head bowed down.. in shame?

“…. it’s not good to teach your child such nonsense, if he continues like this.. you wouldn’t like what he’ll grow up to become!” Doctor Hemsworth scolds her.

Maybe she’s the fat boy’s mother.

“Thank you, doctor, I’ll caution him!” She said.

My gaze moves to the fat boy’s face, it’s has different colors.. blue.. black.. red…yellow.

I frown, then I turn back to Denzel’s wrapped knuckles.. and Denzel’s busy frowning and scowling.

“Aunt, did Denzel do that to him?” I asked aunt.

“Yes, Hemsworth called you because of the fight!”

Oh! I breath in relief, I thought something bad has happened to Denzel.

“Miss Lopez?” Doctor Hemsworth called me.

I step forward and give him my undivided attention.

“Miss Lopez, your Denzel is really stubborn.. look at what he did to Felix!” He gestures at the fat boy.

Felix’s nose looks broken which makes his face look funny, I almost laugh at his expression.

I really wanna know what happened that made Denzel have a fight with him.

As if Denzel read my mind, he speaks!

“Anna, he said you’re poor and I’ll soon die!”

He said what now?! How dare he wish my brother death?!

I turn to Felix with a soul draining glare.. and he flinches back.. hiding behind his mother.

“I’m sorry about my son’s behavior, Miss Lopez!” His mother apologise.

Doctor Hemsworth clears his throat.

“Why what Felix said was wrong but Denzel shouldn’t have fought him!”

Denzel didn’t fight him, Denzel beat him up! I said

Feeling proud of my brother inwardly…. Nobody should look down on him because he’s sick.

But I pretend to be mad at him outwardly, I send him a scolding glare and he looks down quickly.

“Sorry doctor Hemsworth.. I’ll caution Denzel and make sure he doesn’t disturb the peace of this hospital again!” I said.

Doctor Hemsworth nods and gestures us to leave, we all leave immediately.

“I’m sorry about Felix’s action, he’s just being spoiled too much… I will scold him!”

Felix’s mother apologise when we’re already outside doctor Hemsworth’s office.

“It’s fine, ma’am, my brother is at fault too!” I said.

“No, Anna, Denzel is not at fault.. my Denzel doesn’t fight unnecessarily!” Aunt said.

Well, you can see that my family is a no nonsense family… We all just can’t stand any oppression.

“Ma’am, it’s fine!” I told Felix’s mother.

She nods and leaves… Aunt and I continue leading Denzel’s to his ward.

Just a few meters to Denzel’s ward..I stopped abruptly as I hear an all too familiar voice speak behind me.

“As my fiancee, why did you come to the hospital without informing me?!”

I close my eyes, why is he here?! What is he doing here?! How did he even know I’m at the hospital?!

I can’t let aunt know about him, maybe I should pretend like I didn’t hear him.

I continue walking but I stop again as he comes in front of me.

“Are you avoiding your boyfriend?!” He asked.

“Boyfriend?!” Aunt exclaimed.

My eyes close on their own, I wish the ground would just open and swallow me.

What should I tell aunt now?

“Aunt Bell?” Klaus said in a surprise tone.

I open my eyes quickly, aunt is staring at him with a frown.. while he’s staring at aunt in surprise.

“Aunt Bell?!” He called again.

“How did you know my aunt’s name?” I asked him.

Did he investigate my family?! Did he really have to do that?! I glare at him.

“You’re….” Aunt trails off expecting him to continue.

“It’s me, Nicklaus!” He said.

Aunt look like she doesn’t recognize him.. but Klaus on the other hand look so sure that he knows aunt.

Which I’m quite surprised at, how did he know my poor aunt?

“Wilhelm Statham!” Klaus said.

Recognition flashes through aunt’s eyes… but she quickly wipes off the recognition when she notices I’m watching her.

“Nicklaus, huh?”

Klaus nods.

“So you’re my niece’s boyfriend…”

Aunt looks at me and I shake my head in denial.. then she looks back at Klaus.

“.. but she haven’t told me about you yet!”

Well, that’s because he’s not my boyfriend, we’re not in a real relationsh¡p.. I wanted to tell aunt.

“Nicklaus come with me!” Aunt said.

My eyes bulges out.

“Huh? Aunt.. w-what.. what do you wanna talk to him about.. you can ask me!” I stutter.

I don’t trust Klaus with aunt, who knows what she’s going to ask him.. and who knows what his answer will be!

“No! I wanna confirm something from Nicklaus!”

“But aunt, he….”

“Shh!” Aunt cuts me off. “Take Denzel to his ward, I. Want. To. Have. A. Word. With. Nicklaus!” She said in a firm tone.

Leaving no room for arguments, she walks off towards a direction.

“Don’t you dare tell my aunt any nonsense.. better mind your words!” I growled at him.

“Darling, I give the orders… Not you!” He said and rushes after aunt too.

I stand there glaring at the direction they went.. I feel like running after them.. to eavesdrop on their conversation.

But….

“Anna let’s go!” Denzel said.

He’s the but… I should take him back to rest and also receive some scolding from me.

“Aunt Bell, I remembered Nina was an only child…how did she have a younger brother after that incident?” Nicklaus asked.

Aunt Bell sighs deeply.

“Nina is suffering a memory loss..she doesn’t remember that Denzel’s parents are not her real parents!”

Anastasia’s pov 👠

“You think you’re batman, right?” I asked Denzel.

We’re back in his ward, he sits on his hospital bed while I’m pouring him a glass of warm water.

“He was insulting you, Anna.. he said you’re poor!” He replies grumpily.

I slam the glass in his hands and sit on a couch in front of him.

“Denzel, you can’t fight everyone that insults me.. do you think fighting makes you cool?”

“But he said you’re poor… ”

“That doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter if I’m poor or not.. what matters is I always make you happy.. I provide you with all you need!”

He stayed silent, he takes the glass of water to his l-ips and takes a sip.

“Do you know how scared I was when doctor Hemsworth called me? Do you wanna know what I was thinking on my way here?!”

Denzel notices I’m angry, he carefully drops the glass in the small table and reach for my hands.

But I don’t let him hold them, I move my hands away from his and stand up from the chair… I walk closer to the window.

“Fighting is wrong, you did something wrong but you’re yet to admit it… Is that what I taught you?!”

I feel him wrapping his tiny arms around my wa-ist, since that’s where his arms could reach…I’m pretty tall.

He hides his face in my back.

“I’m sorry, Anna, i promise I won’t ever pick up a fight with anyone again!”

I scoff.

“I just couldn’t let him say bad things about you, I’m really sorry” he said.

“Say it like you mean it, Denzel”

He removes his arms from my wa-ist and kneels down, he raised his fingers and crosses three.

“I promise I won’t pick up a fight ever again, I’m sorry, Anna.. I won’t make you worry again!”

He’s staring at me with his big brown eyes, they look so cute right now.. just like those sad puppies.

“It’s fine.. don’t make me worry next time, ok?”

He nods. I smile at him and lifts him up, I lean down and k-sses his forehead.

“Come on, I’ll wash some apples for you!”

He smiles. “Thanks, Anna!”

I lead him back to his bed and makes him lay down. I walked towards some fruits on the table, I take an apple and washes it.

“Anna?” Denzel calls me.

“Yeah?”

“Is he really your boyfriend?” He asked.

I knew instantly that he’s referring to Klaus but I pretend like I don’t know.

“Who?”

“That handsome man…”

Handsome man? I smile to myself, there’s no denying it.. Klaus is a very handsome man.

I mean, he’s the most handsome and hottest man I have ever seen…

Now thinking about it, I guess I should take back what I said about Graham’s boss… surprisingly, his boss is not a fat belly, beard old man!

“….are you gonna get married to him soon?” Denzel’s question wakes me up from my daze.

“What?! Get married?!”

“Yeah…I watched a movie with aunt, the girl married her boyfriend!”

I smile sweetly at him and shake my head.

“Don’t listen to Klaus, he’s not my boyfriend and I’m not gonna get married to him!”

He frowns and sits up as I hands him the apple.

“Oh!” He exclaims quietly…in a little bit of a sad tone.

I wonder what aunt and Klaus are talking about.

Authoress’ pov 👠

Aunt Bell found a bench in a quiet corner, she sat down and pats the space next to her.

Nicklaus simply stares at it and shakes his head, Aunt Bell frowns.

She reaches out her hand to pull him down, but he quickly takes a step back.. creating a safe space between them.

Aunt Bell frowns in confusion.

“Nicklaus, why don’t you sit down?”

“It’s fine, aunt Bell, I’d rather stand” he replied.

“But there’s enough room for both of us”

Nicklaus stares at the little space left on the short bench.. he shakes his head again.

“I.. I.. can’t sit near you…”

He trails off and gulps.

“I’m allergic to women!” He said.

Aunt Bell finds it strange and hærd to believe but didn’t push it further.. after all, her niece is also suffering from amnesia.

“Nicklaus, so how did you find Nina.. even with her name changed?” Aunt Bell ask him.

Nicklaus dips his hand in his jacket pocket and pulls out a photo, he hands it to aunt Bell.

Aunt Bell stares at it.

“I asked about the little girl and she told me she’s her!” Nicklaus said.

Aunt Bell sighs deeply as she stares at the photo, she runs her fingers through it.

“Nicklaus, my niece has passed through too many hærdsh¡ps.. it hasn’t being easy for her!”

“What do you mean, Aunt Bell? What exactly happened to her?”

Aunt Bell shakes her head miserably.

“Her father’s company was already having issues, that’s why he decides to engage Nina to you and make her your wife… ”

Nicklaus tucks his hands in his pocket and listens carefully.

“… but her parents were assassinated few days after the engagement.. they were killed in their own home, luckily Nina was well hidden by her mom before the attack!”

Aunt Bell paused and frowns as if she’s recalling something, while Nicklaus waits for her patiently to continue.

“She was already passed out when rescue came.. the doctor treating her said she had too much gas in her system.. and she had a hærd fall which affected her head.. he concluded that she’s gonna die… ”

She laughs.

“.. but Nina, my stubborn niece miraculously woke up.. unfortunately, she lost all her memories.. Denzel’s mom.. which is her father’s younger sister and also mine too… she was sitting by her bedside… ”

Aunt Bell gets up and hands the photo back to Nicklaus.

“… She thought Denzel’s mom was her mother, she doesn’t remember her parents.. she completely forgot everything, sue couldn’t even remember her name.. the doctor told us it’s Nina’s will to forget everything..”

“Her will to forget?” Nicklaus asked feeling a bit confused.

“Yes, the doctor said.. maybe she witness something very tragic, so she forced herself to forget everything she witnessed!”

“Is there no way to make her remember?”

Aunt Bell shakes her head sadly.

“No, the doctor said she’ll remember when her mind is free.. he said we shouldn’t force her to remember anything, else we’ll do more damage!”

Nicklaus relates aunt Bell’s story to his father’s death.

Could it be his father was killed the same day Nina’s family were assassinated? He wonders.

*Our home weren’t far from each other’s.. maybe Nina had tried to run over to our for help.. but saw something bigger instead* Nicklaus thinks within.

“Where have you being all these while, Aunt Bell? Where are Denzel’s parents now?”

“I left to do some underground investigation after the incident.. but I always hit a rock end.. I couldn’t find anything…”

Nicklaus frowns, he’s also experiencing the same thing now.. the clues all lead to nothing!

“… I came back last year when I got the news that Denzel’s parents died in a car accident.. it was said that they were coming back from a picnic, but….”

“But what?”

“I don’t think it’s a normal accident.. I’m thinking, whoever was it that killed Nina’s parents must have found out she’s alive.. I think it’s her they were aiming for!”

Nicklaus nods thoughtfully.

“I thought changing her identity could hide her from them but it didn’t.. they still found her!”

“Whoever killed her parents must be close to them.. I think it’s the same person that killed her parents and my dad.. ”

Aunt Bell nods.

“I thought as much!”

Silence falls on them as they are both in their own thoughts.

“Right, don’t try to force Nina to remember.. if possible, I don’t want her to remember those sad memories… I just want her to be happy, she’s too young for all this!”

“But she’s the key to solving this puzzle.. she must have something important locked up in her memory!”

“I know, but let’s leave her to remember naturally… Until then we’re gonna investigate this secretly!”

Nicklaus pause and thinks about aunt Bell’s suggestion, he nods slowly.

“I can’t afford to let Nina be in danger.. not now that she’s living happily.. even though she’s poor now, at least, she’s happy!”

“Don’t worry aunt Bell, now that I have found her again.. I’ll protect her, I won’t let any harm come to her!”

Aunt Bell nods with a smile. Nicklaus wanted to speak but someone runs into him, he looks down and….

“Bill?!” He called.

“Uncle Nicky!” Bill exclaimed.

He quickly hugs Nicklaus’s legs tightly, Nicklaus raffles his hair.

“Bill, what are you doing here?”

“I came to visit mom!” Bill replies.

“Huh? Rhoda lets you run about in the hospital?”

Bill shakes his head, grinning mischievously.

“Nope! I snuck out to buy some sweets!”

“Ok, I have other things to do… don’t tell your mom you saw me!”

Bill frowns.

“Why?”

“Because if you tell her, there’ll be no birthday present for you this year!”

Bill thinks about it, he looks up at Nicklaus to see if he’s being serious…but when has his uncle not being serious?

“So do we have a deal?!” Nicklaus asked him.

“Deal” Bill said and shake hands with Nicklaus to seal their deal.

Bill waves Nicklaus and rushes off… Aunt Bell smiles at Nicklaus.

“Is that Rhoda’s son?”

“Yes, aunt!”

“Wait… Rhoda is in this hospital?” She asked surprisingly.

Nicklaus nods.

“I haven’t bump into her once!”

“Aunt, let’s head back… Nina and I have something to do back home!”

Aunt Bell’s eyes grows wide.

“You both live together?”

“No, no, aunt!” Nicklaus replies quickly.

He sounds a little bit nervous, which he finds odd.. he’s always confident.. why is he being nervous now?

“Remember our deal, don’t try to force Nina!” Aunt Bell warns him seriously.

“I remember, Aunt Bell”

Anastasia’s pov 👠

Denzel’s already asleep when aunt and Klaus came back.. they seem to be quite acquainted with each other.

I guess Klaus won aunt over..

Arms wrap around my wa-ist, that’s when I realized Klaus is already standing beside me.. when did he get close to me.

“Aunt Bell, Anastasia and I are leaving now!” Klaus said.

Aunt sits next to Denzel car-ssing his hair.. without raising her head, she replies.

“Alright!”

What?! I can’t go with Klaus, I’m practically his slave now..who knows what he’ll do to me if I go with him.

“Aunt, don’t you think I should stay and…”

“No, don’t bother about Denzel Anna.. I’m here with him!”

Klaus turns to me, his grip on my wa-ist tightens.

“Darling, I’m starving, didn’t you promised to cook dinner for me?”

What?! When did I promise him that?! I don’t even know how to cook!

Aunt paused and turns to us, blinking her eyes rapidly.

“Anna promised to cook dinner for you?”

“Yes, Aunt!” Nicklaus replies.

Aunt looks at me questioningly and I shake my head.. aunt suddenly breaks into a huge smile.

A mischievous glint in her eyes, I know she’s plotting something evil in her heart now.

“Since Anna promised to cook you dinner, I won’t hold you here… ”

Aunt rushes to the door and opens it very wide.

“… you can take her with you!” She tells Klaus.

“Thank you, aunt!” He said.

I look at my aunt, does she knows who she’s sending me away with?

Besides, why didn’t she tell him I don’t know how to cook even the simplest meal?

“Aunt… ”

“Bye bye!” She said waving me.

Klaus is busy pulling away, I reach out to catch my aunt’s hand but couldn’t… Because Klaus snatches my hand.

“But Aunt, I… You…. ”

“Byeeee!” Aunt yells after me.

Klaus looks down at me a smirk.

“I’m gonna taste your special delicacy today!” He said.

I humphed inwardly… He doesn’t know I don’t know how to cook.

Well, I don’t care.. I just feel pity for stomach. He’s so gonna make the toilet his home today.
