πŸ’˜ Part 2 prologue πŸ’˜
Chloe’s POV

Everyone had a secret, I had mine too and I was planning on taking it to my grave.

My snow white tennis shoe made
my legs look smaller, my uniform from the housekeeping job at the grand hotel clung to my body.
My brown hair was pushed up in a messy ponytail.

I felt giddy as I got closer, Mrs. Porter was going to be mad at me, I knew that already.

I adjusted the grey shoulder bag on my peach uniform.
I walked up the front lawn to the door.

My secret, my secret was here, it was behind this wooden door, my secret no one knew about.

I pressed the doorbell and looked around the beautiful neighbourhood as I waited. I heard the locks.

I smiled at Mrs. Porter when she opened the door.

“Took you forever.”

“Sorry, our Manager called for a meeti…”

“Mom!!!”
Mrs. Porter stepped aside.
I went on my knees as he ran toward me, I almost lost my balance from the force he used.

This was my secret.

πŸ’˜ chapter 1πŸ’˜

Three years later.

I struggled with the apron around my w–st trying not to be late for the meeting Mrs. Carter announced a few minutes ago.

I was the only one left in the girl’s locker room. I sighed in relief when I finally untied it, too late to change into my clothes, I grabbed my bag and left.

I ran almost bumping into Mr. Frederick the Facility Manager, he smiled at me and told me to be careful.
At twenty-three I still wasn’t punctual at anything no matter how much I tried.

I didn’t want to give Mrs. Carter more reasons to fire me. I had bad records already, the non-stop complaints about me from my co-workers and the owners of the rooms I cleaned.

I once broke a guy’s nose for groping my ass while I was cleaning his room and there was also this time a lady told me to bath her dog and dress him up.

I left the dog in the bathtub and stayed on the phone with Mrs. Porter, I totally forgot about the dog. The little puppy was dead when I returned, I tried CPR but it was fruitless.

I didn’t know what to do so I dried his body with the hairdryer on the dresser, dressed him up and left him in his pen like he was asleep, I finished quickly and left.

The lady still reported and told Mrs. Carter I killed her dog, but luckily for me, no one believed her.

I only met once with the owner of the hotel, he told me I reminded him of his daughter, maybe that was the reason I still had my job.

I didn’t get along with my co-workers, not all of them. I had three friends here, they cover up for any time I was running late.

I pushed the double doors to the room making a loud noise, everyone turned back to look at me. I flashed them a grin and stepped in.

Mrs. Carter didn’t look surprised, she looked away from me and continued with her talk.

I joined Jane and Hope, they laughed at me. I frowned at them and tried to listen to what Mrs. Carter was saying.

“….we can’t have our guests complaining about our staff…”

Like they didn’t enjoy doing it, no matter how you try to make them feel at home they still had something to complain about.

“The lady whose room I cleaned today told me my perfume was choking her.”
Hope whispered and scoffed, I could tell how offended she was.

“Mine complained that my uniform was too short, she went to the extent of telling me I wanted to s-duce her husband and went on about young girls stealing peoples’ husbands.”
Jane said and gagged when she was done talking, I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Silence!”
Mrs. Carter snapped, I looked up and found her staring at me, was my laugher that loud?

She looked annoyed, I noticed she wasn’t the only one staring at me.

“Sorry.”
I said forcing a smile.

She looked away after giving me a dark look. I eyed her blue suit that didn’t go with the makeup on her face.

Mrs. Carter was a strict person, no one messed with her. She started in this hotel as a waitress, from what I heard she’s been here for twelve years, the pay must be good for her to stay that long.

I had only been here for eight months and I hated the job, but I needed the money.
For the student loan that was hanging above my head and crushing me.

My other job at the Diner didn’t pay as high as the hotel, but I still had my night shifts Fridays and Saturdays.

Being an independent new adult was so hærd, no kidding.

I sighed in relief when Mrs. Carter dismissed us. I took a glance at my old wristwatch, shit! I was late.

I said a quick goodbye to Hope and Jane and headed for the exit.
I hoped I won’t miss the bus, I quit walking and jogged instead, few people made way for me to avoid bumping into them.

“Chloe!”
Someone called from behind immediately I entered the parking lot, I knew that voice.

“Hey, Daniel.”
I turned to him with a smile, he was in a dark jean and blue shirt that brought out his dark eyes.
His dark afro was neatly combed and looked good on him.

He was the first friend I made here, even with the attitude I gave him he still wanted to be friends. He was very sweet and never missed a chance to check on me.

“Where are you rushing too?”
He asked, stopping in front of me.

“Home,” I lied.

“Great, I will drop you off.”

“I have to stop at the store for groceries, don’t worry about it.”

“That’s fine, I can take you there.”

“No, I’m sure you have other plans. Bye.”
I said quickly and walked away before he could convince me.

I got to the bus stop just when the bus arrived, I entered and sat next to the window.

I tapped my feet on the floor wishing the bus would quit stopping for other people and just take me to my destination.

I took out my phone and texted Mrs. Porter. I rushed out of the bus immediately we got to the familiar Street.

I threw a dirty look at the teenage boys that stared at my exposed thighs and legs due to my short uniform.

This was my life now, two jobs, student loans and secrets. After everything I had been through, I decided to keep to myself, I couldn’t trust anyone, myself included.

People kept wondering why someone from a rich family was working her ass off, the constant reminder of the huge amount of money my family got from suing the Sanchesters, no one knew I rejected the money, well except my family or should I say ex-family.

πŸ’˜ chapter 2πŸ’˜

My family tried everything possible to make me come back home but I refused. I cut them off from my life after seeing that their reputation was far more important to them than their daughter.

I hadn’t spoken to any of them, my sister called once but I ended the call immediately I heard her voice.

Everyone had a secret, I had mine too and I was planning on taking it to my grave.

My snow white tennis shoes made my legs look smaller, my uniform from the housekeeping job at the grand hotel clung to my body. My short brown hair was pushed up in a small ponytail.

I felt giddy as I got closer, Mrs. Porter was going to be mad at me, I knew that already.

I adjusted my grey shoulder bag on my peach uniform. I walked up to the front lawn decorated with fresh flowers.

My secret, my secret was here, it was behind this wooden door, my secret no one knew about.

I pressed the doorbell and looked around the beautiful neighbourhood as I waited. I turned around when I heard the locks.

I smiled at Mrs. Porter when she opened the door.

“Took you forever.”

“Sorry, our manager called for a meeti….”

“Mom!”
Mrs. Porter stepped aside.

I went on my knees as he ran toward me, I almost lost my balance from the force he used.

This was my secret.

“Hey, baby.”
I whispered stroking his hair softly, I kΓ—ssed his head and cheek. He caged my neck with his tiny hands not pulling away.

I put my arms around him and stood up.

“I’m so sorry, Mrs. Porter. How much time do I have?”

“An hour.”

“Thanks.”
I said with a big smile.

Kayden pulled away from me a little to look at my face, his blue eyes glimmered under the light above us, his baby pink l-ips pushed out in a pout. He touched my hair and my cheeks.

“How is my favourite person in the world doing?”
I asked and poked his nose, he giggled and bounced in my arms.

“Did you miss me?”

“Yess.”
He mumbled nodding his head frantically, I smiled and brushed his brown hair back, good thing he took my hair colour.

“Coco.”
He said pointing at the big living room, I followed the direction he was pointing.
His little finger pointed to the large screen tv where his favourite Nursery rhymes were playing.

He moved his head side-to-side to the song, I laughed softly and dropped him in the middle of the toys scattered around the living room.

I kΓ—ssed his head and left to see Mrs. Porter, she was a widow and she’s been super nice to me and my baby.

After I found out I was pregnant, I freaked out especially with the media interested in everything going on in my life after the incident with the Sanchesters. They made up different stories to put in their lame gossip magazine.

I didn’t want anyone to know about the baby, I found out I was pregnant two weeks after I left Adrian’s place.

I called Vina immediately I got my things, she was mad at me at first for shutting her out.
We both agreed to rent an apartment, I stayed in a hotel for a couple of days before we found the perfect apartment.

I couldn’t tell Vina about the pregnancy, so I decided to leave California. I told Vina I was going on vacation, a long vacation. She didn’t question me, she only told me it was a good idea; that I needed it to clear my head, so I found myself in Cuba.

I stayed with a family in their two-bedroom apartment and agreed to pay them. I returned a few months later after having the baby.

I didn’t want to move away from Beverly Hills, I grew up here and had so many memories here. It was my home, I won’t move away because of a lunatic.

I didn’t know exactly what to do after returning to Beverly Hills with Kayden. I stayed in a hotel for a few days and that was where I met Mrs. Porter, she took a sudden liking to Kayden when she first saw him.

I told her everything that happened when she asked about the father, she offered to help hide him in her house, but she had rules.
I couldn’t visit once it was 9 pm.

I smiled at her as I took the seat next to her, she returned the smile.

“How was work?”

“Annoying as always.”
I said with a sigh.

“Hope Kayden didn’t cause so much trouble?”

“You know him already honey, he kicked me in the eye today when I tried to change his diaper.”
She said and laughed.

She was like a mother to me, it was nice to have Kayden here to keep her company. She didn’t have any child and sometimes I could feel her loneliness.

“Isn’t that your bag?”
I looked behind me at where Mrs. Porter was pointing, Kayden was removing everything in my bag, he stopped when he found my phone, I knew what he was about to do.

“Kayden, drop that.”
He stared at me for a long time not doing anything, he stood up and started running toward the kitchen.

“Kayden.”
I went after him, he looked back and giggled as he saw me coming after him.

“Don’t do that.”
I said as he stopped in front of the trash can, he took a glance at me and threw the phone into the trash can.

“Kayden”
I gr0Γ—ned, he giggled and ran away.

I got my phone and wiped it with a paper towel. I went back to the living room where Kayden was hiding behind Mrs. Porter’s seat.

I pretended not to see him, he peeped from behind the seat to look at me.

“Mommy?”
He called, I turned to look at him. He started running again giggling non-stop.

I went after him and scooped him in my arms, I dropped him gently on the couch.

“Gotcha!”
I tickled him making him giggle h-rder.
