“I said this young handsome and rich man here wants to marry you.. Haa!”Nkiru said impatiently
“My daughter, my son here just came back from ala ndi ocha (the white man’s land) and it is your name he has been singing as a song”Obi said smiling
“Nwoke m.. Have you seen me before? Like have we met?”Kamsi asked piercing into the eyes of Felix.
“Actually Yes And No.. I have seen you once or twice a long time ago before I left the village for greener pastures. And when I came back, my brothers still recommended you to me”Felix said pointing at Kene and Ibeh who were smiling sheepishly.
“Chai.. I’ve suffered sha. So I am under recommendation eh kwa?”Kamsi said shaking her head
“Mama even you.. You are pushing me to marry someone I barely know abi?”She faced her mother
“What is this one even saying?”Nkiru asked confused
“I am engaged to be married! I have a Fiancé and we will be getting married very very soon unu anugo? I cannot marry this obodo oyibo whatever biko.. Excuse me all of you, I was with the love of my life before this anumanu came to call me”She pointed at Udoka angrily.
“biko kwa o.. Abughim anumanu(am not an animal)”Udoka said
Kamsi only hissed and left.

“Felix, I have no hand in this. Your brothers said the girl already knows about it and that was why I agreed to go there. Please don’t involve me in the matter, aka m adiro ya (my hand is not there)”Obi said and went in,side.

Kene turned to Ibeh with a scornful look
“ehee? Gini? Why are you looking at me like a lost sheep?”Ibeh asked
“Where you not the one that brought about this wh0le foolish idea? Did I not tell you that Kamsi will never accept Brother Felix? Yet you dragged us into such a shameful disgrace. What exactly is wrong with you?”Kene said angrily
“You are a fool. Do you think you can just woo a girl once and she’ll accept? She has to do small shakara before she accepts”Ibeh said

That evening, Kamsi came home a bit late. She knew she’d be having a confrontation with her Mother and she was ready for it.
“Bia nwa a..where are you coming from at this ungodly hour?”Nkiru asked blocking the main door
“Mama you talk as if you don’t know where I’ve always been these past months. At the shop of course!”
“Shop of course! Look at you Kamsi, beautiful girl like you.. Asa obodo oyibo. Why do you want to waste your beauty on a poor village bush man who sells palm wine and pieces of horrible meat for a living?”
“Haba mama! Ify m is not just an ordinary palm wine and bush meat seller o.. We have graduated to selling Nkwobi and Abacha.. mama eh, the business na e boom godu! Small time now, we will have branches all over the city and even abroad”Kamsi smiled
“ewwww chim o.. Chibuzor.. Chibuzor dim oo (Chibuzor my husband) Are you there watching? are you watching how your daughter is making me cry? Are you watching??”Nkiru bursted into tears.
Kamsi became sad
“Mama what did I do now?”
“Why would you throw away a diamond for a mere stone? Kamsiyochukwu can’t you see that God has sent us this man to wipe away our tears? Eh Kamsi.. Your brother in Portharcourt barely sends us enough to eat..”Nkiru was still crying
Kamsi went over to her “ngwa ozugo! It’s enough.. Stop crying”
“I will not stop crying o Kamsi.. I will not stop.. You have decided to disgrace me and cover my face with shame. Why don’t you marry this rich guy and better our lives?”She continued crying
“Mama I love Ify and he loves…”
“Anwuolam ooo.. Kamsi has killed me”Nkiru was rolling on the floor and crying hærd.
Kamsi watched in amazement. what a dramatic mother!
Udoka ran from in,side and saw his mother rolling on the ground
“Mama what is the problem?”He asked
“Kamsi what happened? Who died?”He asked Kamsi who stood speechlessly.
“Amaghim.. Maybe you should ask her..”Kamsi said and walked in,side
Nkiru continued rolling on the floor, crying and calling her late husband.

Lydia haven’t seen Ifeanyi since the day she left his shop. She needed to tell him a proper thank you for helping her the other day but she was scared of going there so as not to meet Kamsi again.
However, that morning as she carried her sachet water on her head, she promised herself to pass by Ifeanyi’s shop.
So she came there and peeped. Ifeanyi quickly saw her and beckoned on her to come in. She hesitantly did coolval stories.
“I hope Margaret Thatcher is not around o”Lydia said referring to Kamsi
“No jare”Ifeanyi laughed
“I’ve been hoping to see you.. you know I don’t know where you live..”
“Eh, I live just down the road, behind that new primary school opposite Kingsley Pharmacy”
“You mean that road that leads to Nwanyi Mma’s house?”
“Exactly! my house is just beside Nwanyi mma new boreh0le”
“Oh oh! I think I know there..”
“Well, I was going to the market to sell as you can see so I just said I should hop in and say a big thank you for helping me out the other day”
“Ah.. it’s nothing jor.. besides, why are you still hawking under this hot sun?”
“Hmm..There’s nothing else to do. I’m saving up so I can at least register for the upcoming WAEC and JAMB examinations”Lydia said
“That’s good. But, can’t you be supplying me with water? Say 10-12bags every Evening for my customers. I’ll pay you and you need not hawk around anymore.”
Lydia’s face beamed with happiness.
“Are you serious?”
“Of course I am! I don’t want you fainting anymore!!”
Lydia was so happy that she jumped on him and hugged him happily.
“What is going on here?”Kamsi said. She had just come in and met them hugging.
Lydia quickly disengaged from Ifeanyi.
“Uto’m this is..”
“Shut it!”Kamsi said stopping Ifeanyi with her hand raised up
“You..”She faced Lydia “The last time you were here, I told you never to come back right? So what are you doing hugging my man?”
“You misconcepted the wh0le thing”Lydia said
TAWAI!! A slap landed on Lydia’s right cheek
“Stay away from my man. If you do sell your body to men for money, Ifeanyi here should be an exception! do you understand?”Kamsi scre-med.
Ifeanyi was shocked. He had never seen this side of her before.
“I won’t warn you again”She said and went to the backyard.
“Lydia please can you forgive her on my behalf. I am so sorry”Ifeanyi said to Lydia who still held her cheek in pains.
“No, there’s nothing to be sorry about. I perfectly understand her. Who would have a fine guy like you and not feel insecure? She’s only trying to secure her property”Lydia smiled
Ifeanyi laughed. This girl could make a joke even after everything? d–n!
“So.. Remember our business right? It still holds, starting from this evening”Ifeanyi said
“Fine boy I don’t want..”
“Shhh.. leave Kamsi to me, I will handle her. Now go home and get my goods ready OK?”Ifeanyi interrupted her
She nodded in smiles “Thank you”She said
“See you this evening”He said. She nodded and left.

“Ifeanyi so after everything, you still allowed that pr-stitute to come here?”
“Uto’m you just have to take things easy. I’m only trying to help her. That girl has been through alot.. She’s an orphan!”
“I don’t just like her. She looks like she’s going to snatch you away from me!”
“And you believe I can do something to hurt you? after everything you’ve done for me? come on!”
