‘What was I doing at Eve’s wedding in the first place?’ Kate muttered to herself alone.

Whatever that b***h Matilda was doing there didn’t surprise her at all. She was just surprised her three girlfriends betrayed their friendsh¡p and still stuck together like glue.

Kate was deep in thought when her mom entered asking about the wedding and the fact that since she decided to keep the baby, she must as well start attending antenatal.

‘Mom is that necessary, you know I have to resume work and I might not have the time to go in and out of the hospital.’

‘Listen to yourself woman; you think this was how I brought you into this world.’

Kate looked at her confused. ‘But mom i ca……’

She was going to decline when her mom cut her off.

‘You had better get yourself out to the St Joseph hospital tomorrow; I booked an appointment for Sundays.’

‘Sundays?’ Kate queried. ‘Yes, because I know you would fight with me over the working days.’

‘Okay mom I will.’ Kate responded not so sure of herself.

‘So tell me who the father is and don’t lie.’

‘Mom, not you too.’

She smacked her daughter’s back lightly. Catherine knew her daughter wasn’t going to tell her who the father of the baby she’s carrying is until she was ready.

‘Mom.’ She called! ‘Can we talk about the other day?’

‘Ahuh!’ Catherine exclaimed weakly.

‘You said some things I want you to clarify.’

‘Kate, I would be very glad if we don’t discuss this.’

‘Mom why do you keep shutting me out?’

‘Kate I’m not, and whatever I said the other day has nothing to do with you. So I don’t see the reason why I should be discussing with you.’

‘But I thought we have no secrets mom.’ She raised her head to stare at her mom. ‘Why do you all keep breaking my heart one after the other?’ Kate lamented further.

‘Come here my dear.’ She pulled Kate into her arms for a while. ‘Look, I love you and whatever I have to do to stop those pictures from getting out there I will.’

Kate just nodded because she knew Catherine was trying to take her mind off the questions.

She called her triangle of friends and they spoke for a long time. Drake even volunteered to take her to the hospital but she declined.

Kate walked into the hospital as early as 9am, waited for a while and then she heard the nurse mention her name. Kate followed her in,side, and their eyes met.

‘Nurse, let me have the folder.’ Kate noticed he was acting professionally. He looked at the folder, glanced through and asked her to have a seat.

She hesitated for a while but the nurse was still standing there so Kate didn’t want to cause trouble. She pulled the chair and sat down. ‘Miss Santa, right?’ Nectar looked back on his file. ‘How far are you?’

Kate took another glance at him and nodded her head, not to anything in particular but the mere fact of seeing Nectar made her blood boil.

He then flashed his hand to the nurse and she left.

‘How do you feel Miss Santa and how far are you?’ Nectar asked again and Kate looked on.

‘Look drop the act, that folder should tell you all you need to know.’

‘Don’t use this opportunity to try mingling with me. You know I don’t like you. You don’t either so I think I need another doctor.’

‘Okay, I will ask my other colleagues if they are willing to work on Sundays, because I’m the only doctor on duty for Sundays.’

‘I don’t want you.’ Kate said silently.

‘You could opt for a weekday probably you could get another doctor fixed for you.’ Nectar didn’t want to show how pained he was when Kate mentioned she didn’t want him.

‘Good.’ She replied with a calm tone.

‘By the way, I met your Dad over lunch regarding the pictures.’

‘And?’ Kate asked curiously. ‘Your dad assured me he took care of whoever kept sending them and he was sure there were no copies out there.’

‘Except the ones he has right,’ she retorted back.

Nectar kept scratching his head. ‘With that I couldn’t convince him to destroy them.’

‘You couldn’t or you didn’t.’

‘Kate he was so adamant on keeping them, but I promise the worse is over.’

‘And why didn’t you tell him, you were the dude who took advantage of his daughter and was so childish to let it get to the open.’

‘Kate don’t talk like that and I’m sorry about what happened but I’m looking into the hotel where we slept at.’

‘You slept at not me.’ Kate said eyeing him.

‘Okay, the hotel i slept at.’ Nectar repeated just to avoid an argument.

‘You didn’t even have the decency to take me to a better hotel. Upon all the work you do here, are you that broke to settle for a mushroom hotel? You had better make this go away or else I will never forgive you.’

‘My sister is a lawyer; she also looked into it with her confidential Informant.’

‘Look I’m not here to discuss your family with you. I’m just glad you were man enough to get that sorted out and thank you.’ She said rudely and said her goodbyes.

‘In that case help me tell the nurse to bring in the next patient.’ Nectar asked to make a conversation.

‘Do I look like an errand girl?’ She asked and was about to walk out when his next question nearly sent her to an early grave.

‘Is that child mine?’ Nectar asked and she was mute. ‘Kate I’m asking you a question.’

He spoke for the fifth time before she regained her composure.

‘Who are you and what makes you think you are responsible.’ She tried to convince him.

‘The timing in the folder.’He responded with hope.

‘Look I slept with you once doesn’t mean you can father a child.’

She told nectar so sternly without blinking her eyes.

‘I know that Kate.’

‘Then leave me alone, I’m sure you have other innocent women you took advantage of, find them. One of them might be pregnant with your child, but certainly not me.’

He slumped into his chair, as if he was expecting the child to be his.

Kate thought the things she said would offend him but he was not.

“Good day, Miss Santa, if you do change your mind, give me a call.”

She hissed and left.

Kate went home, feeling bad and blaming Catherine, because she realized her mom knew Nectar was the doctor at that hospital but she still sent her there.

‘Well I don’t have to blame her though she did this on purpose.’ She talked to herself for a while.

Kate was about to take a nap, when her phone beeped. It was a WhatsApp message from an unknown number.

“It was a pleasure meeting you today; I would like to be your doctor.” Kate read aloud.

‘What is wrong with this person?’ Kate asked silently.

She texted back with insults. They were at each other’s throat until she slept off finally. The next day, Kate was not so sure if she was ready for work but she had to go.

She figured she couldn’t sit around like a pregnant doll, though a few things were about to change especially when her baby starts growing but she realized she was so strong to overcome every obstacle.

Kate was driving to work, when her phone rang.

‘Hello Katie.’

Kate knew only one person calls her that name. Her best friend among her three girlfriends. She haven’t heard that name in four years. ‘What the hell does she want?’ Kate was ranting silently.

‘Katie are you there. I just want us to talk please.’

She quickly hanged up after hearing her voice. “I mean what is there to talk about”. Kate asked herself severally.

Matilda was the closest of her three friends, every little of Kate’s secrets; she gets to hear about them before the other two girls. Kate was broken when she betrayed her.

Getting to work, Kate learnt from her secretary, one Mr. Glover has been calling to make an appointment. Kate asked herself what Nectar wanted this time. Just then, her intercom rang and her secretary buzzed her in.

‘Mr. Glover is on line two for you Miss.’

Kate took a deep breath and answered.

‘Hello,’ before she could burst out with her insults, Nectars father spoke up.

‘I don’t know what my son sees in you but he is so sure he wants this marriage to happen. Can you meet me at 12pm for lunch at my house? I’m sure you can find your way.’

Kate was not able to object or say a word before he went off the line. She thought it was best to meet him and tell the family her mind.

Kate thought since he doesn’t agree to the wedding, he might help convince her dad. The problem now is how she would get his location. Kate knew she just have to call her dad who would definitely insult her.

Her Mom also has no idea where the Glovers live and her Dad wasn’t answering either.

‘I can’t call the devil himself.’ She said to herself. ‘Stacy, call Nectar Glover on this number.’ After calling out his number to her secretary she told her to let him know it was urgent so she needed the direction to his house.

Though Kate still haven’t been able to figure out how Nectar got her number the last time but she was glad now he did, which would help her sort out the cancellation of the marriage deal.

Kate didn’t know what happened but she got herself to the Glover residence after she got the direction from Stacy.

‘Hello sir, I want to apologize for my behavior the last time, I was in a bad place with my dad then.’ Kate said after she had settled down in the Glover house.

‘Well I still don’t agree to my son marrying you!’

‘That is what I want too!’ Kate quickly ch¡pped in.

‘However, my son won’t back down even after knowing he might be raising somebody else’s baby.’ Kate was embarrassed but she didn’t want to show her stubbornness again.

‘Moreover, he keeps ranting about the fact that you are carrying his baby.’

‘No sir, this child is mine alone.’ Kate quickly replied. ‘I’m sure he’s just paranoid.’

‘Maybe you are right.’ Mr Glover admitted.

‘Please speak to my dad so he cancels this wedding plan.’

‘I’m sorry Miss, I love my son, in as much as I don’t want him marrying you. I can’t decide for him, what makes him happy. He has been through a lot already so if he says you are the one, who am I to reject you?’

‘What about my own happiness then.’ Kate asked when she obviously wasn’t making any heads way with him.

‘Well work out your own salvation? Wedding is in a month, take it or leave it. Your dad wants it done soon.’

Kate just got so angry, confused and stormed out of there without a word. She drove straight home, walked in on her parents sitting on separate beds.

‘ Dad can we talk?’

He just looked sadly at her for a second. Kate was sure he saw the tears in her eyes.

‘Mom, can you please excuse us?’

Her mom made to say something but she closed her mouth and walked out.

‘Dad I know you would have wished mommy was alive but I understand I killed her.’

‘You have no idea what you are talking about.’ He responded.

Kate just ignored and continued.

‘It was a tough decision to make back then, the love of your life, or your child and I believe you loved me when you chose me. Why then are you so angry with me?’

‘Just stop talking.’ Wilson managed to say again.

‘You always forget I lost a mother too, so you are not the only one who lost someone.’

‘So? Would that bring her back?’ He asked angrily.

‘But I’m the innocent one here, I could just leave this house and never see you again, but I’m still here hoping you would change soon.’

‘You should leave. I don’t need you around here.’

‘I can’t leave mom behind, she wouldn’t leave with me because she loves you too much and can’t leave you attending to your own needs.’

‘Good for her.’ He hissed.

‘Cancel this wedding and I would do whatever you want.’

‘Get married rather, and I would treat that murderer of a mother right.’

‘Okay I will get married, but not to that man, I mean I do not even like the man.’ Kate finally gave up with a condition.
