The Changing Tides
Episode 27 – finale
“I need to get my woman back home grand Father, I am not giving away this opportunity again. My
family knows her and now you have known me.
Later on we can make some arrangements for an official wedding but please I ask that I take her
and she will be coming from my place and go to school,” Paul explained to Maria’s grand father a
day after their reconciliation.
“Well my son, am glad you settled your things out and I also appreciate the fact that you were
there for my grand daughter when she needed it the most. I just want to make this clear though.
This woman you are seeing here is my own blood and never think she’s alone. I want you to live a
happy life I know challenges will be there but learn to sort them as they come together. You are
her strenght and so she is yours too.
Whatever you do think of the consequences of your actions towards one another, people might
want to come between you two but everytime that happens remember where you have come from.
Remember to pray all the time so that God will help you overcome.” the grand father adviced.
“Well, am grateful and so happy I met you grand father with people like you we can never luck
wise advice” Paul smiled holding Maria’s hand as they sat in the sofa.
She looked at him and smiled. Her heart glad he was there with her. She thought of how much
they had fought to get back to that moment and she thanked God all things were getting in place.
Grace was forgiven by the family and she was too made to apologise to Maria. Who later on
begged Paul to help her get her job back at ZESCO. Unfortunately over the years Grace never
really found a man to trully love her, she had two kids from different men and none was willing to
marry her.
Tasha too was lucky she’s found a man and they got married a year later. According to some
rumors she married the guy she was dating at the same time she went back to Paul.
4 years later…
“Well my love, am glad the graduation went on well and now our wedding is days away. You have
no idea how happy I have been these past 4 years Maria, I discover so many wonderful things
about you and I can’t stop thanking God on how lucky I am.” Paul said holding his wife as she
was still in her graduation gown.
“You honey, are a blessing. am the one who is so happy because I have forgotten how painful my
past was. Because the joy and happiness I feel covers it all. By the way did I tell you Musonda
called me last week? .” he did?” Paul asked.
“Yeah he was telling me his wedding was set for next week. Am so happy that man found love
honey, he told me he met the girl he dated years back in high school. According to him she was
his first love and that she had gone away for studies. Their relationsh¡p was cut short over the
period but two years ago they somehow hooked up and you know, they decided to pick it up. ”
“Oh that’s great news my love, I really wished that great man to find love and be happy too. He’s
become a very good friend to us. And now that you have mentioned his wedding am gonna call
him so that we do a dual wedding. What do you think?” Paul asked excited. .
“What!” Maria asked.
” You mean like two weddings in one day?”
“Yeah my love, not only in one day but same venue and Church too since you said he joined
Catholic we can arrange something” he smiled.
“Oh God am so excited’ Maria exclaimed
“we are getting married and Musonda is too. What a wonderful God.
Call him now and let’s get this done. I can’t wait to be your wife my love” she smiled k-ssing him.
“What’s with the shouting!” the 8 year old Paul came to his parents.
“You guys are acting like kids” he teased.
“Paul, watch your mouth” , his father scolded.
“This woman here is mine and the house too I can do what I want at any time of the day shout or
scre-m with her and you my friend won’t stop that” .
“Well dad, I just came for my promise remember you told me when mum graduates. So please
give it already” he shrugged.
Paul shook his head.
“Spoiled boy it’s your mother’s graduation and not yours. Anyway since you made me proud by
passing number one I am keep my promise.
Here, go and open the garrage you will find your new bicycle there” Paul told his son, as Maria
watched in silence shaking her head.
The boy stormed outside.
“Now where were we?” Paul sighed looking at Maria.
She shook her head smiling,
” I don’t like where this is going, shall we take it to the bedroom” she laughed pulling him.
“Well I didn’t think of that, now that you have mentioned it, I think it’s a good idea that we continue
this celebration in style” he smiled holding Maria’s shoulders as she lead him to their bedroom.
A week later, Musonda and his fiance, Paul and Maria had a joint wedding. It was a colourful event
and every one wore smiles on their faces. A sign of happiness surrounding them as they danced.
The soft coctail music played as the couples danceed holding each other. . “can I have her last dance?” Musonda asked Paul smiling giving his own wife to dance with Paul..
“Well you deserve it my friend. Careful am watching though,” he teased as he moved to hold
Musonda’s beautiful wife.
“You are a lucky woman” he whispered to her.
“I know Musonda is the greatest of all men I have come to know. Keep him happy will you?” He
smiled at her.
Maria looked at Musonda for a minute without a word as they danced.
“I love your perfume” she whispered.
“I always did. You smell so good” she laughed.
“What? You are crazy?” Musonda chuckled.
“Admit it already am a charmer” he teased as they danced.
“Well, what can i say. Am very happy that my guardian angel found love again and I pray that
woman there will fill every gap that I couldn’t fill in your life Musonda. You amongst these other
great people here, Margret and her family, my grand father, that crazy woman Doro who I think
God has changed and she’s now full time house wife,” Maria added with a laugh.
“You made my life worthy while.
Thank you so much” she smiled.
Musonda sighed,
” you know what? I still love you and now I love you more that you have accomplished part of your
dreams.
Be happy Maria, live to the fullest and do the things that matters the most in your life. You have a
good man for a husband and am sure from now onwards you two will fly higher together because
you have passed through the harsh realities and that made you who you are today, a degree
holder and a wonderful wife and mother as well as friend” he smiled.
“I want you to know that whatever you do I will support you till the end.
And don’t tell my wife this, ” he teased leaning close to whisper in her ears,
” you are a better k-sser than she is.”
“What?” Maria let a laugh.
“Go on to your wife you jerk!” she teased letting go of his hand as she went back to her husband.
The celebrations ended well and the two couples flew out for some honeymoon.
4 years later.
Maria and Paul had 2 more children after her graduation. She was teaching at one of the high
schools in Lusaka and she and her husband put up a project together and built an ophanage.
With the help of some donars Maria was able to capture a lot of street kids and helped them with shelter and education facilities.
She one day stood to give a speech at one of the fundraising ventures for the ophanage. Her
husband Paul seated in the front row with their three children smiling.
She cleared her throat as she begun.
“You know, I really don’t know where to begin from. You people gathered here today have no idea
how over joyed I am to see this dream come true.
I was once like you,” she said looking at the direction of the street kids. Who somehow looked at
her appearances and from the way they saw her coming to the ophanage driving a very
expensive vehicle, wondered how possible a woman like her would say she was once like them.
“Oh yeah” Maria smiled at them,
” I also once slept under the bridge and in the street corridors of Lusaka, I spent 5 years of my life
on the streets, hungry, without proper clothing, feeling the harsh winter winds on my skin till my
body could not shake anymore. My hope lost. I as once insulted and spat at because some people
thought I was not worthy of anything.”
Maria spoke wiping a tear from her face.
“I want you today to know that everything is possible with God, no man can define who you
decide to become in life. God has seen me through the CHANGING TIDES of my life and he took
me through them all so that he can perfect what I have become today. I believe he can do the
same for you all.
I thank God he directed my life towards some great people,” she said looking at Margret and Jake
seated and smiling at her.
“Great friends” she looked at Musonda and Doro,
“Great family” she said looking at her grand father, Tasha and other members of the family that
were present.
“And above all my very own great husband who I call my superman” she smiled tears falling her
face.
“My children who are a blessing I would never cease to thank God for. Thank you all for being
there for me in the most strong and fierce tides and for making me see the light at the end of the
tunnel. I love you all so very much God knows I always pray for you to prosper and see his glory.”
“I wish to add special thanks to my husband Paul, honey, I would have not been here without you.
You are my inspiration and thank you for giving so much to help me realise this dream. I love you
so much you are my wh0le, I don’t know where I could be without you picking me out of all the
women in this world” maria cried as people stood to cheer her up.
“Thank you so much” she whispered..
Paul walked and held his crying wife.
“I love you more my love. That was great” he whispered k-ssing and wiping her tears of joy. “Thank you all for coming and may those that are giving towards helping these children give
generously and only God will reward you for having a heart for them…” Paul spoke in the Mic to
conclude the speech.
“Come on now my love, from now on let’s pray God will make us ready to enjoy the coming tides
for I can feel it and I know they are indeed packed with so many wonderful things to come …” Paul
told his wife.
“Yeah, I feel them too” Maria smiled at her husband and indicated her kids to go to them as the
family hugged smiling.
Maria looked up the sky and smiled widely
“thank you Jesus!” she whispered.
