Chapter fourteen 💋💝💓💖💓
Ngozi’s pov
I pick up a pen and try to jot down some important points I would be needing in my debate
HOMEWORK SHOULD BE BANNED IN SCHOOLS
Would it be wise to oppose the motion
I decided against it
Almost everyone would be opposing the motion
I Ngozi ,the English guru will support the motion!
I start daydreaming about going to the University of my choice
Hmm! I would go somewhere far!
Like plateau or Nassarawa!
I have a deadline of four days to submit my debate to the school’s blog so that the winners could be announced on Monday and be prepared to defend their speeches on Wednesday .
I really hope I win
I hear my phone beep and I pick it up to find a message from Donald
A smile instantly lit up my face

As in, who writes poems at this age and time!
My mom walks into my room
” Ngozi my dear.. ”
Huh Huh! I don’t like the sound of this! Whenever my mom calls me like that it means I should get prepared for one big errand
” yes ma”
” I forgot to tell you since morning, mama chike asked me to bring her some liquors, I already told her you would be bringing it for her”

” yes, I already asked Francis to go with you, hurry up, don’t keep her waiting ”
Mama Chike’s house that is four streets away!,
I started grumbling
” oohhhhh ooooohhh, is it only me that is in this house ni”
I look at chioma, curled up on the bed in a catlike position, I know she has woken up, she was only pretending to be asleep
I carry the basket of liquor and I was a about to come out of the house when I bumped into Francis
” hey ”
“hey, ”
” your mom asked me to esc-rt you, let me have that ”
He took the basket from my hands
” thanks , Francis I’ve been really wanting to thank you for bringing me home that day that I got drunk, I….. ”
” it’s no biggie”
We got out of the house and we started the long walk to mama Chike’s house
Kate’s pov
I try writing my debate down in a book 📖
Then I remember that I don’t even have an Android phone
Is it this Nokia 3310 that I will use to submit my debate!
Then I remember Chukwudi!
I hurriedly change my clothes and head to Chukwudi’s shop
I don’t like him but he seems like my only option
I got to his shop and met him selling Rice and Garri for one of his customers
” Kate! Kate! Nwanyoma my Katie, this one that you came to visit me like this, I’m so happy o, Emeka!!! Oya go and get malt and egg roll for my girl”
I will kuku collect it!
Me that I’m hungry before!
” em brother Chukwudi, I want you to do a favor for me ”
He roamed his eyes greedily over my figure
He licked his l-ips and his eyes settled on my slightly peaking br-asts
” stop that thing, don’t call me brother, do I look like your brother, Abeg call me Chukwudi ”

” now you are talking, yes my omalicha, what do you want me to do for you ”
” brother….em Chukwudi I want you to please borrow me your phone, I want to use it for a class project ”
He instantly removed his two SIM cards from his android phone and gave it to me
” I will do anything for you omalicha, anytime you’re done with it you can return it ”
I was touched deeply
Perhaps it would be sensible to be Chukwudi’s wife
But I wished that thought away
I am worth much more than that

Emeka ( one of his boys) returns with the snacks and I collect it
” I would like to get going now Chukwudi ”
” Ehnn so soon, Emeka! Measure four dericas of rice for Kate ”
“You really don’t have to do that”
” I know you need the food Kate ”
I felt insulted
It was like a puncture to my pride
But what is pride compared to hunger
So I swallowed it

I collect the rice from him and Chukwudi esc-rts me home
We get to an enclosed place
” Kate, I would like a reply to what I requested from you ”
I feign ignorance
” what request ”
” you’re not a small girl na, don’t tell me guys have not started f-cking you, give me a chance too na”
My face colored with anger
” how dare you insult me like this ”
” Abeg drop English, all your sisters na ashawo them be, you come dey form holy holy for me”
He grabbed my ass
” get your stinking hands off me, you nauseating reptile ”
He brought his mouth closer to me and I was assaulted with the hot breath of alcohol
” I will take care of you Kate ”
I felt like throwing up
” you know what!, I don’t blame you, I blame myself for thinking that you are different, you know what, take your phone, take your rice, take everything you gave me ”
I drop everything on the ground and walk away
He picked them up and twitched his fingers at me
” Na ashawo you go do last last ”
One thing I can never lose in life is my pride
But my stomach didn’t agree with that theory
It rumbled and growled, reminding me that I haven’t had a proper meal
Francis pov
Everyone is crazy about being Princeton king and I’m no different
Twenty million naira isn’t a small money!
My mom and dad are average people
My dad is an electrician while my mom sells clothes
Winning the competition would be a dream come true for me, it would make going to college easier for me
Ngozi must be wondering why I was so lost in thought cause I could see her staring at me
It’s amazing how grown up Ngozi has become
As hærd as I tried I couldn’t picture her as the flat chested tomboyish girl I grew up with
She had bloomed
Or she is ripe for the plucking as my friend Ahmed would say
My eyes traveled from her curvy h¡ps to her slender wa-ist and her full br-asts, I couldn’t help staring at her mouth, those luscious l-ips with natural pink coloring
” why are you looking at me like that ”
She said with a smile
I wonder if she knows the kind of effect she has on me
I didn’t think I just planted my l-ips against hers
She muttered a curse under her breath
I was filled with different s-nsations
She tasted sweet, this was Zee!
Our tongues swirled against the other, like a tango
Her breathing became harsh and she pulled back
Her eyes were clouded
” Francis, please this craziness has to stop ”
Wait! So she thinks I would let go just like that
” Zee please don’t run away this time, I want you Zee, I’ve always loved you and I would like you to be mine, be my girlfriend Ngozi ”
She took a sharp intake of breath
I however wasn’t expecting her next words
” I can’t date you Francis, I already have a boyfriend and his name is Donald ”
The first thing I felt was anger
It will not be well with Donald!
” Ngozi you cant date Donald, he is a beast, a monster ”
She gave me a funny kind of look
And I knew it
There was nothing I could say that could actually change her mind
She was determined for destruction
” I’m sorry let’s just drop this, I hope you could stop saying awful things about Donald, the guy is a good guy, I really hope we can go back to being best friends, uh-huh Cisco ”
There was a look of pain in her eyes even as she said the words, her chocolate eyes darted imploringly
” uhnn Cisco?”
I pull her into a hug
” yeah I’m sorry, zee and Cisco! Best friends forever! ”
And I swore to myself
That I’ll protect Ngozi
Even if it’s from herself
We walked back home in silence
Ngozi’s pov
I entered the house with low spirits
Why did Francis ask me to be his girlfriend
That has always been my every childhood fantasy
My child hood crush
My bestie
It was my every dream to be Francis’s girlfriend
It was ironic that if he had asked me a week ago, even he even asked me three days ago, I would have said yes
I settled down in bed and feel the tears trickling down my face
And the craziest thing is that I don’t even know why I’m crying

Chapter fifteen
🙍Kate’s pov 🙍
I was back to square one
I woke up the next day with a grumbling stomach
My sisters didn’t come back from the party last night
I kneel down and say a brief prayer
‘ Father Lord , I thank you for keeping me safe
My dad I’m tired of this life
I haven’t paid my school fees daddy
Not to talk of WAEC fees
It’s am starving daaaa..aaaad ‘
My voice broke and tears blurred my vision
‘ God you told me you have a plan for my life
Is this the plan !!
I’m dying dad
Dad if you truly love me
Just give me a sign
That everything will be okay

I wipe my tears away with the back of my hands
This has been my daily routine for as long as I could remember
I had made God my Heavenly and earthly father
There was this agony in my heart
This unspoken pain
Only people that grew up without parents can understand this pain
The pain of having no one to show up for you on PTA’S
I began searching my sister’s clothes, jackets, handbags, purses, to see if I can find any money at all
I finally found a crumpled hundred naira note in one of sister Lara’s Jean trouser
I then went to have my bath and i. prepare for school I inspect my face in the mirror
I pinch my cheeks and smile
And it was with that smile that I start the long walk to school
💀Donald’s pov 💀
Patience !
Hmm patience!!
They say patience is a virtue
I have decided to be patient
That way I’ll be able to hurt her more
She has become so trusting
So ignorant of the evil that lies within
I’ll help her grow wings
She’ll soar higher
The tip of her fingers touching the crown
And that’s when I will begin to hurt her
That’s when I’ll clip off her wings and show her wickedness
That’s when I’ll send her to heaven!!
On the day of the nominations!!!!
” Donald, most people are wearing couple hoodies ”
She pointed at the two people wearing sweaters
I read the inscriptions at the back of it
The guys own was ‘I’m a fisherman ‘
While the girls own said ‘am I a fish’
I couldn’t help chuckling
I swear Princeton students are mad!

She smiled and revealing her dimples
” I’ve got to go and speak with Kate ”

I was walking around the courtyard when I saw Jerry
” hey Kate ”

I’m surprised he even knows my name
Cause he hasn’t even spoken two words to me in his entire life

I begin to walk away

My ears instantly pricked up

” if you’re serious add six thousand naira to it and make it my school fees ”

It didn’t seem real
And in that moment
I know it is a sign from God
That everything will be okay
He stretched out his hand
” deal? ”
I shake him immediately
Dreading the fact that it could be a dream
” deal!!! ”
“but Jerry you could have asked any other girl to be your esc-rt without actually paying a dime, why did you choose me”
He became deep in thought

She raised her brows in that typical Ngozi way
I know she could smell something fishy
” Katie is everything okay ”
” why are you asking ”
she touched my face and checked underneath my eyelids
” seriously! You’re doing a pregnancy test on me? ”
” of course not, why would you think that? ”
” because my sisters do that to each other all the time ”
” what!, I just noticed you’ve lost weight Katie, is everything actually ok”
I blink really fast

” OK, have you written your debate”
” no I haven’t ”
She brought out her phone
” here, use mine, you can return it after the weekend ”
” but have you written yours”
“I’ll use my moms phone ”
I pull her into a teddy bear hug
She patted my back
” you know I’m your best friend Katie, if there’s actually anything wrong you can tell me about it, I’m worried about you Katie ”
I started to talk and then I choked on it, perhaps I had gotten used to keeping a straight face
” thanks Ngozi but everything is fine ”
” so you girls are leaving me out abi”
Bukky shouts at us
” you’re not serious Bukky, how far about your debate ”
” I’ve submitted mine already ”
” wow, kudos to you o”
” kudos kini, I just wrote anything I could think of and submitted it before I lost courage ”
” aahhhhhh Bukky! ”
” stay there”
“OK so we’ll see each other on Monday right ”
” yeah Monday thinz!”
