“It’s OK Amy, everything is gonna be just fine ” Bryan consoled me.

“Yeah! That’s what y’all say but you don’t have the power to decide whether or not my Cody gets to die or live!” I yelled.

“Just calm down” He said.

The doctor came out of his ward and I rushed to him.

“How’s he? How’s my Cody? Is he alive? Is he dead? ” I asked the doctor.

“Why aren’t you talking! ” I snarled when he didn’t say anything.

“Cody is fine ” he blurted out and I felt my nerves relaxing.

I let out a deep breath and wiped my tears.

OK, he’s fine, my baby is fine.

“What happened to him? ” I asked the doctor.

“Well, his system didn’t actually take the morning treatment we gave him so it resulted to all these but don’t worry, everything is in control now ” he assured and I nodded.

“Can.. Can I see him? ” I stuttered a little.

“Yeah sure but don’t make any noise nor disturb him ” he said and I nodded.

I went into Cody’s ward and sat beside him.

I leaned forward and placed a soft k-ss on his forehead.

I knew my Cody would never leave me.

“Please stay alive for me Cody ” I whispered into his ear.

A nurse came in and told me its time for me to let him rest.

I wasn’t even disturbing him but OK.

I left the ward and Bryan and I went home.

I mean, to my house, Bryan followed me to my house.

“You have a beautiful house and it’s big ” he said as we walked in.

I plumped down on the couch and sighed.

Now I lost the competition.

“Can I make myself feel at home? ” Bryan asked but I just rolled my eyes at him and said nothing.

“I’ll take that as a yes ” he said and made his way to the kitchen.

I could hear him opening the fridge, carrying the cookie container.

“OMG! ” he scre-med and I sprung up and ran to the kitchen.

Did he see something scary?

“What? ” I asked him when I got to the kitchen.

“We didn’t loose! ” he said with so much bliss as he dropped the cookie in his hand on the table.

I raised an eyebrow at him, confused.

“We didn’t loose ” he repeated and I sighed.

“Yeah I heard that clearly…..we didn’t loose what ” I asked him.

“We didn’t loose the competition ” he blurted out.

“Wait what? We didn’t loose the competition? How? So we won? ” I asked and he laughed out.

“Dummy! How can we win when we haven’t participated yet? Duuuumbo ” He bluffed and I rolled my eyes.

“How do you know this? ” I asked him and he pointed his phone at my face.

I didn’t get him so he sighed and asked me to go check my phone.

I went back to the living room and took my phone from the couch where I had left it.

There was a new message from the company so I opened it.

Only group 1 and 2 participated today so group 3 and the rest are participating tomorrow.

OMG! But how? They were gonna do it all at once! Then how? Wow!

That means we still have time to prepare and win the competition.

My l-ips curved into a smile and Bryan chuckled with cookies in his mouth.

“You’re happy now huh?” he asked and I just smiled and said nothing.

Happiness will come if my Cody comes back to me.

“But how are you receiving messages from the company and not just me? ” I asked him with furrowed brows.

“I also dropped my contact info along with yours ” he said with shrugged shoulders.

“Don’t give me that look, we are both in this together ” he stated and I just did the usual : rolled my eyes.

“TBH, I never knew Luca can be so kind lol, when I saw him at the hospital earlier, he looked scary ” Bryan blurted out.

“Wait what? Luca Devon was at the hospital today? ” I asked him.

“Yep! You didn’t see him? ” he asked and I glared at him.

“Oh! You were busy crying with your eyes closed ” he teased and chuckled to himself.

Thank you Lord for this, everything is working in my favour.

Time flew, Bryan went home, Caden came back from school, we had our bath, ate and went to bed.

My alarm wouldn’t stop buzzing sound I switched it off and took my lazy ass off the bed.

PS : not lazy, I’m hærd working and that’s for sure.

I bathed Caden, got him ready for school and made him breakfast.

He went to school in the school bus while I went to do my own morning routine.

I was done bathing and was dressing up when the doorbell rang.

I hurriedly dressed up and went downstairs to open the door with my messy hair.

“Seriously?” I snapped and rolled my eyes at Bryan.

I opened the door wide for him and he walked in.

“Just because you now know my house doesn’t give you permission to come here anytime you like! ” I stated bluntly.

“Oh please chill, I’m just here cause of the competition we have ” he remarked.

“Whatever! ” I said mad went back upstairs to make my hair.

I was done styling my hair so I went back downstairs to meet Bryan eating cookies AGAIN.

I gave him a weird look but he just chuckled.

“The cookies are so nice and delicious ” he complimented.

“Yeah! Now drop them ” I seethed.

“Let’s go now so we’ll be there early ” I told him.

“Aren’t you forgetting something? ” he asked.

“What? ” I asked him.

“Food! Amy eat!” he blurted out.

Oh jeez! Since Cody’s been at the hospital, I’m so forgetful now and I can’t even take care of myself properly.

I went to the kitchen and ate from the breakfast I made for Caden.

I was done minutes later so Bryan and I boarded a taxi to the company.

We arrived there at 9:38am and went to the hall where the competition will be held.

Lots of cooks were already there and we are gonna be provided with the utensils we need.

They are gonna set up a timer, ask a group to make the same dish during that time limit and the best cook wins.

It’s gonna be repeated all through the groups and the winners from each group will have to compete against themselves.

At the end, only the best three would be picked out and the lead winner will get the most of everything of course.

I got my eyes fixed on the first position and I can already see that prize in my bank account.

All the cooks were ready and we all sat, watching the judges and Luca Devon take their seats on the high table.

Group 3 were called out and Bryan and I followed them up to the podium.

A very big red curtain was pulled aside on the right side of the stage and it revealed a very broad kitchen.

Everyone could fit in and there’s a table for each in the kitchen.

They asked us to take our places in the kitchen I.E : choose your table.

A cooking gas and everything you need is on your table except any food recipe of course.

“OK now, we are gonna tell y’all the dish you’re gonna make and set up the timer. Once the timer goes off, you stop cooking and serve the judges your food so they can have a taste. Mind y’all, the judges are all cooks from different countries including Italy, Korea and China” The speaker ( a lady ) said.

Bryan and I glanced at ourselves and swallowed up our saliva.

“OK so this is the dish y’all gonna make ” she started.

My heart was already beating but not to brag, I’m a good cook.

I could feel Bryan tense up as well as we waited to hear the dish.

“Y’all making ‘Consommé’ ” She blurted out and I felt my heart in my mouth.

What the hell? Consommé ? Consommé devilish dish? That’s like the hærdest dish ever!

Everyone started murmuring in the kitchen but the speaker ignored us and proceeded to the next part.

“So now, grab your basket and go pick up your ingredients over there, a timer is also set for this so be snappy with it ” she said and pointed at the small grocery store they made for us.

“Do you know all the recipes? ” I asked Bryan.

“All? You should be asking if I even know one recipe ” he blurted out.

OK we’re doomed big time!

Chapter 12..🌻

We made our way to the grocery store they made for us with a basket with us.

I held the basket while Bryan and I tried remembering the recipes.

“OK so we need eggs, black peppercorn, bay leaves, parsley, thyme sprigs, coarse salt, turnips, carrots, garlic, celery, parsnips and uhm…. ” I tried remembering more.

Bryan picked the recipes as I mentioned them.

“You don’t even know one? ” I asked Bryan.

“Well, you know making a consommé is hærd but the recipes are so simple, you just have to get the right taste and since we weren’t told the exact variety of consommé to make, we are making the general one of course ” he blurted out and I rolled my eyes.

“Recipes Bryan! Recipes are what I asked for ” I remarked.

“Oh yeah, added bay leaves yet? ” he asked and I nodded.

I did mention that and he added it to the basket already.

“OK eggs, peppercorn, parsley ”

“Bryan! ” I snarled at him.

“What”

“Stop seeing everything as a joke! Stop repeating the recipes I already mentioned and remind me the one I’m missing out ” I snapped at him.

“Fine, let me just bring out my phone and google it ” he said and it made me flushed.

Not flushed in a cute way though.

“Are you mad? Bryan the cameras here are bright enough to see into our future and you wanna make a mistake that will get our arses disqualified? ” I snapped at him.

“Aiit chill, lemme think, maybe I’d remember something. Not like we make consommé all the time ” he seethed.

“We need a pot ” he blurted out and I gave him a “are you serious ” look.

“Cold stock? ” He mentioned.

“Yeah! Cold stock ” I repeated and he smiled.

“See? I still know one or two things ” he bluffed.

“Tsk! Bruh, you only know one “I corrected him.

“Leek, onion ” he added and I smiled.

“OK three ” I told him and he chuckled.

“Beef, seasoning and a ladle ” I added with a smile, feeling on top of the world for knowing most of the recipes.

We got all we want and the timer went off but we were done.

Some cooks who still haven’t gotten all their recipes complained but everyone went back to their table in the kitchen.

Time to make wonders with my magic hands.

I rubbed my palms together and Bryan did the same making me scoff.

“And for your info Bryan, we aren’t making a general consommé but a basic consommé ” I corrected him and he just smirked.

“So do you know how to make it? ” he asked

“Yep! Twas just the recipes dribbling with my brains ” I told him.

“Funny, now start “he said like an order and I gave him a glare.

“This is how to make a basic consommé, listen, watch and learn ” I told him.

“•1 Take a long piece of kitchen twine and tie meat and bones. Place into a big stock pot and pour in the water, then bring to a boil over high heat.

2 Skim the coagulated albumen from the surface and add salt.

3 Now, add the vegetables and simmer over low heat for few minutes.

4 When the consommé is finished, remove the fat from the surface and strain through a very fine strainer or cloth.

5 Serve the consommé with various pasta, bread or other garnishings” I blabbed out like a parrot and heaved a sigh of relief when I was done.

” Where did you learn all that? ” He asked me.

“From my mom and my cooking book of course ” I told him.

“And you never forgot? Like you stored it in your head? ”

“That’s what cooks do Bryan, now stop questioning me and get to work ” I told him.

We started, going fast and smooth.

We noticed some cooks tryna take a peek but Bryan and I blocked them from seeing anything and threw them deadly glares.

“It’s almost time ” Bryan said as I strained the consommé.

“Damn it’s hot ” I hissed when a small quantity splashed on my right hand.

“Dishes ” I told Bryan and he hurriedly brought them.

We counted the judges and they were 4 plus Luca making 5.

The timer went off just in time of me serving the last dish.

We all raised up our hands and the speaker came to inspect if we were still doing anything.

We were asked to place the dishes we served in a tray, line up and drop a dish in front of every judge.

We did as we were asked to and soon it was our turn.

I gently placed a white dish with the soup (consommé) in,side in front of a judge with a spoon.

I did the same till I got to Luca.

Standing in front of him gave me chills but I had to comport myself, don’t wanna ruin this for me, no.

I dropped his in front of him and for some reason, I noticed he couldn’t stop staring at me.

Like Bruh, please taste the food and make your final decision.

Bryan and I stood at a corner and watched as they tasted the food.

They were done tasting it so we cleared the table and the others did theirs.

We didn’t miss the expression on the judges’ faces when they tasted our food though.

It was time to announce the winner in this group and trust me, my heart couldn’t stop pounding so hærd.

Bryan and I held our hands tight as we waited to hear the name of the winner.

Amy Caesar, Amy Caesar is gonna be the winner.

I have to win, they have to call me, Amy Caesar as the winner.

“And the winner in group 3 is… ” the speak started.

My eyes were shut and I was squeezing Bryan’s hand so tight.

If I don’t make this one, how am I gonna level up to the next round?

“The winner is Larissa Kai ” the speaker blurted out and my heart almost closed!

I tried! I did my best! How can this happen to me?

My eyes met that of Luca’s and I could see the shock on his face and judging from his facial expression, he was sad cause I lost.

No! I failed again!
