โœ๏ธCHAPTER TITLE โœ๏ธ: MISSING HER.

An hour passed since she had returned, with she having all sorts of conversations with her parents who were busy showing their daughter whom they hadn’t seen in months some love.

“How was England? Did you meet with Grace and Anthony?” Her mother asked, the queen smiling sheepishly at her daughter while saying that she had fun hanging out with her cousins in England.

Vera cracked her brain, faking a smile while thinking of what lie to tell. If she says that she visits them, her mother would want to find out other details of the meeting. If she denies meeting with them, the queen would question her and render her helpless because she’s not good at telling lies.

“Grace was away most times, and I was enjoying my space alone. But sometimes, we say or extend cousins’ love by chatting,” Vera replied, wishing for her mother to believe just that and shouldn’t question her further.

Afterward, the queen just smiled and decided to gist her daughter about everything that happened when she was away. Sometimes Vera returns the favor by telling what did and didn’t take place because she never went to England. Well, anything to stop the moment from being awkward.

“You should go freshen up and have something to eat, dear. You’re looking skinny and only your skin shows that you went to another country because it’s still fresh,” The queen teased, playing with Vera’s cheeks and patting her hair which had grown longer than they used to see it on her, and since it wasn’t looking unkept, she accepted that Vera changed her hairstyle by herself.

Agreeing with what her mother said, although she had prayed for it to happen, Vera excused herself from there, heading to her room and waving at a worker, who bowed her head to greet her.

Vera strolled back and fro in amazement as the breathtaking sight of her room caught up with her big time and put her in wonder.

Oh, wow! Andromeda had done more than Vera expected for her to do. She had done a lot in the past to make Vera happy and ensure that a smile appeared on her face, Vera also never failed to do that.

What Andromeda had done this time around to transform her room didn’t just render her in shock for minutes, it made her glad to have such a loving twin sister. How did she pull up all of this without telling anything to her?

Excitedly, Vera moved to the right side of the room where a dressing mirror had always been there but now, it wasn’t there anymore as it was replaced with furniture where new shoes were neatly arranged

Turning around to revise the room again and realizing that it was little to less of the things she left behind that she could see, Andromeda got everything replaced by a new one.

One of her things that Andromeda never replaced with a new one was Damien’s pictures that were pasted on the wall. It stayed intact and the sight of it made her smile.

Vera went forward to touch Damien’s face on the wallpaper. A lot of thoughts go across her mind and she constantly remembers her memories with him.

Vera had left three months back, hoping that what she trailed after would be worth it at the end of everything.

Vera predicted different things about the future, without realizing that no one can make a correct decision ahead of what the future planned for itself because what it holds can’t be revealed to anyone.

Damien had appeared scary in the beginning, and after being close to him she couldn’t judge him for being that way.

Vera prays that the stepmother’s whereabouts get found out soon and she should be rewarded with a potion of her evil, and realize how she had toyed with others’ emotion.

The sound of the door made her realize that she had lost herself in thoughts without planning to do so, and before seeing who was entering, Andromeda appeared in her presence.

“Meda!” Vera exclaimed happily. Her parents had called for Andromeda to return home since Vera had arrived.

It had taken too long for her to be back and Vera had lost all hope on her returning soon. Bothering about the reason why she wasn’t back yet, she decided to stop feeling anxious and just awaited her.

“You silly, I miss you so mu—- ouch!!!” Vera suddenly shouted in pain, halting on her steps towards her while raising a hand to touch her face which hurt because Andromeda had just through her bag at her.

“Why did you do—–” she wanted to complain, kicking the handbag with her leg while wincing in pain, but before she could finish speaking, Andromeda beat her to speak.

“That was your punishment for making me look crazy at the airport because I was searching for you there,” she started speaking, her eyes cold and her sight was fierce.

Andromeda crutched and removed one of her shoes from her leg, grabbing and throwing it right at Vera’s hand that was holding her head in place,

“That was for you acting like you’re smarter than me when you aren’t even close to it,” speaking the last words frustratedly and abruptly left the room.

“What did I do?” Surprised Vera asked, dropping the hand from her head and going after her angry twin sister. Why was she upset with her?

“Why does she resemble her a lot? I felt happy for a minute because I thought I was seeing her again,” Damien discussed, raising his shoulder and peeping through the window.

“Are you missing her already? Don’t lie,” Caleb whined comfortably. He placed his full concentration on Damien’s expression.

“I’m not ashamed of admitting to that, because you can’t hit me. But then again, that can’t be your answer to my question.” He replied in a stressed tone. He wants to get over the stressful day by talking to Caleb, as it would at least help him think less of Gregory’s betrayal.

“I don’t know the right answer to your question because it is foolish. Asking me the reason why identical twins resemble!? Okay, it’s because they are identical,” Caleb taunted with his sharp choice of words.

“I’ve been through a lot today alone. You could have found something sensible to say,” Damien hissed, getting angered by Caleb’s reply.

“For a moment, I was feeling great with her excitement for bumping into me. Until I remembered that you and Vera might be a thing someday,” Caleb shared, tapping his foot while observing things.

“We would definitely, not might be possible. And yes, how often do you heal from previous heartbreak? A year after being served heartbreak and you’ve started thinking of being with someone,” Damien snarled.

“A point of correction, mister. I broke up with her. And again, I wasn’t planning on being with the princess, I just like her vibe and it’s purely because of friendship, not love as you thought.” Caleb defended, tired with the conversation, and was planning to leave the car.

“Well, with the look of things, it doesn’t seem like she was happy seeing you, as a friend. She returned my smile even though I was harsh to her then,” Damien replied, purposely sharing just to get on Caleb’s nerves.

“You know, I was thinking of how someone who hates women could understand their emotions just by looking at them,” Caleb said and stepped down from the car.

“When you’re done ranting and nagging like a woman, Annabel is there for you to pamper,” Caleb told to him bluntly, waving at a guard who bowed at him.

“You’re the one who rants like a woman, coward!” Damien yelled and he heard but instead of replying Caleb slammed the door in his face.

There was no need to reply, the words he had used on him would teach him a few lessons of not hurting others by flaunting the pain that looms around a painful experience right on their faces, all for the sake of revenge.

Damien climbed the stairs, his chest tightening against his body as he took each step. He pulled one of his hands from his trousers pocket and placed it on his chest, where he could feel his heart rising.

“Scott,” Damien murmured the name of the head of his workers. The latter bowed his head respectfully, where he stood by the stairs waiting for him.

“Where’s Annabel?” Damien asked, he didn’t stop to speak, rather he kept on walking and Scott expectedly trailed behind him while giving answers to his question.

“Ms. Annabel is in her room,” Damien narrowed his eyes, walking through the corridor and leading the way to Annabel’s room.

“She had dinner?” He asked, knowing it was late already even if the brightness from the chandelier didn’t let it show as it never allowed darkness to prevail over it.

“I took the food to her but she didn’t eat it in my presence, Master Damien.” Scott fastened his steps, walking appropriately so he wouldn’t be far from Damien or neither walk ahead of him.

There was no need for Damien to ask if the butler left or not because Annabel wouldn’t refuse to eat her food immediately if Vera was the one who gave it to her.

“Thank you. You can go back to your work.” Damien dismissed Scott and heard his steps getting far from his hearing until he couldn’t hear it anymore.

It was only a few steps remaining to get to Annabel’s room, but when Damien got to the front of the butler’s room that was opposite his, Damien halted his steps.

With his hands crossed on one another behind him, Damien turned properly to face the door. Glancing at the interval between his room and their butler’s room, he wondered if it was a coincidence that he allowed a butler to live opposite him for months.

Damien was thinking, thinking if he had been observant enough he would have found out about her earlier and the story would have been different. They would have at least spent weeks or a month together before she left.

He had blamed himself for being less observant as he remembered when he had seen Vera naked at Smith’s apartment, but due to ignorance, he had mistaken the butler’s breast to be a big lump.

No matter how much he did, glancing alone couldn’t take the emptiness that he was feeling around him away, and so was the instinct that was encouraging him to open the butler’s door.

If he keeps on glancing, he will continue wallowing in pain. But if he took the step and entered the room, there would be a series of memories that would make his chest tighten more than it had done.

Nevertheless, a curious mind always gets the best of its owner. The effect of the curiosity in him assured him peace if he took a look, and he obediently did so.

Damien took a step forward, twisted the doorknob without knowing, and then stepped into the room without closing the door which he left open behind him.

His eyes roamed fast around the room, staring towards the wardrobe where he had met Vera standing two days back, but now she wasn’t there.

The room screamed emptiness and the tension in the air made it worse. Damien can’t describe how he was feeling inside of him with a furrowed face and a fused mouth.

Damien found himself in the position he hated being in his whole life, and he could feel the helpless side of him shattering the stubborn part of him. If he isn’t strong by himself, how would he be strong around Annabel?
