✍️CHAPTER TITLE✍️: I’LL TELL THE TRUTH____ Part 1.

Aside from the tightness that he was feeling in his chest, where it felt like something was drawing his heart together, another pain that he had to endure was the loss of courage he had in himself.

When Tony resigned and never told him, Damien didn’t care. A week after his resignation he got a butler instead of a house assistant. The close relationship between him and Vera started forming without him realizing it when she would always help him out after a stressful day.

Damien always worries about Annabel’s safety, but with Vera around, he doesn’t have to bother. How could he console Annabel when he also needs the consolation to stay happy?

No matter what pain comes tonight, he would have to bear everything alone while keeping it in his mind that he needs to get rid of every one of his problems very soon.

There would be many articles written already and more would still be written about him in the morning. He would take advantage of many being busy with his matter and he would probably source for Smith himself tomorrow.

Crystal may be hiding but if he gets to meet Smith, she will be found. Then again… What if Crystal had returned to the country without him knowing? What if she has started keeping track of him?

“If that is how to carry out the plan which I’ve checked thoroughly before handing it to you yet, you didn’t get it right, then I might need to present you a gift,” Crystal gritted her teeth as she spoke, grabbing a gun from under her pillow and pointing it at the phone that was placed against her ear.

“No madam, I’m sorry for ruining the plan,” The man pleaded, hearing her speaking from a place of anger and knowing that arguing with her would not fix anything aside from inviting his death.

“That isn’t what I wanted you to say,” she fumed with her hand dropping the gun back on her lap furiously, the light makeup on her face had started getting ruined because she was sweating.

“I’ll do it right this time around. Once I get the chance to be alone with her, I’ll fix everything,” he promised. He kept on looking towards the door as he spoke, hoping no one would enter and realize his true color. The color which he had hidden for years.

“Damien got all of his shots done today aside one and I don’t think he would consider it soon. Since you’re claiming that his Butler already left, I’m sure he would be needing one soon,” Crystal placed a palm on her temple, rubbing it because frustration brought sudden aches.

“Yes madam, he should be getting one soon, he came back looking sad earlier,” He confessed, not opening his mouth to share that the butler who left was a woman because a part of him didn’t want to think of hurting her.

After all, the princess only came here to fulfill her heart’s wants. She passed through stress just to get it all done, even though, at the end of it all, he doesn’t think that she won his heart. Crystal won’t leave any stone unturned if she finds out that something like that took place, as she keeps tabs on everything she hears.

“As you’ve ruined the first plan, I’ll be submitting you to another one. Please fail and let me give your head to my favorite dog to nourish after separating it from your body alive,” Crystal spoke in an intimidating tone, creating fear in him even when she hadn’t opened her mouth to say what the plan was.

“I don’t know if Damien already realized that I’m in the country now. You were the only friend the butler had when he was there, right?” She left a space for him to reply and he immediately did so.

“Right. Befriend my stepdaughter and make her trust you. I’ll tell you what next to do afterward, and yes, you have just a week to make that possible,” Crystal straightened her toes as she instructed.

“I’ll try my best madam,” he answered briefly and got her to hiss in resentment.

“Never say such words to me again. If all you’ll do is to try and not just do it, then I’m sure you know that even Damien won’t be the one to stop me from coming over there and costing you your life,” she snarled and dropped the phone on the bed, just before he could speak about a word that would piss her off totally.

Closing his eyes that had been gazing around the room, he opened them to see the emptiness in the room which rhymed with the one he was feeling.

Damien turned around to exit the room, but he was surprised to see Caleb standing by the door and watching every one of his reactions.

“Since when have you been standing there?” He asked after sighing, his pain could be noticed through his voice, and it was easy for Caleb to detect as he had been standing there all this while while observing him.

“I went to check on Annabel. She’s sleeping now, but I met her crying,” Caleb informed instead of answering the question that Damien had asked, he stepped away from the door so Damien could get the space to leave the room.

“Honestly, I don’t know what to think or how to handle everything,” Damien after closing the butler’s door behind him confessed.

“You’ll be fine. I think you should let her sleep tonight, then tomorrow you both can discuss,” Caleb suggested, and when he saw the resistance in Damien’s expression, he added,

“If you are dying to see her a peep from the door is enough so she would not wake up and start crying again.” Caleb completed, and they both stood closer to the butler’s room.

“That… I can’t bear seeing her in such a bad state. I would lose everything and probably join her in crying, because I am equally as drained as her,” Damien let out, he breathed heavily and pulled his lips together in tiredness.

“That also won’t be bad. Crying helps to express your pain, so, of course, you can always join my little lizard to cry,” Caleb joked, chuckling after saying and wanting Damien to do the same but instead, Damien frowned.

“Do something about you being silly over something serious,” Damien advised when Caleb was done being childish.

“I’ll leave her to sleep today and tomorrow I’ll speak with her myself,” He stated, nodding his head pointlessly at Caleb who was causally staring at him, and when he saw that there was nothing else to do there, Damien left.

The next morning came and Vera was back to her duty of seeking Andromeda’s attention.

Last night, she had locked the door while keeping herself inside. Even though Vera banged on it severally and pleaded for her to open and let her in, Andromeda never answered.

“I just got back, Meda. Aren’t we supposed to be ranting over my journey? Especially when you’re aware that I returned for you,” Vera sadly said, all dressed up in her pajamas and having only come back to check if Andromeda changed her mind, but she didn’t.

Her being persistent could not dispute the truth that she was worried about Andromeda. If she had found out something about her, she should share it. Why drop sensitive words to keep Vera tensed and later go ahead to lock herself in the room without another word? That’s not fair.

All through the night, Vera could not get a satisfying sleep. She was made to worry about Damien and Annabel’s well-being, while also thinking about Andromeda.

“If you won’t open the door to speak with me, then I’ll have to tell Mother what you’ve been doing since I-” Her words were cut short by Andromeda opening the door and then dragging Vera into the room with her, and she immediately locked the door behind them.

“Scream and let her also come to ask you where you went to instead of England,” Andromeda who let go of Vera’s wrist and was going to sit on her bed.

“Where— where I want to?” Vera stammered and her eyes were blinking against her wish.

“Yes, where you went to. I don’t have much evidence against you aside from going to stay at the airport all through the day and ending up finding out that you were home already,” Andromeda shared, standing up from the bed and moving to the Terrace in her room, the one which allowed her to glimpse the country brightly from there.

When she got there, she squatted and tapped the puppy which was smaller than the one Vera had known her with.

Andromeda rubbed the creature’s head smoothly, and went she saw that it would not stop wincing its eyes Andromeda picked it up from the cage and started going back to the room with it.

“It’s still early in the morning, you aren’t supposed to touch it, yet,” Vera advised, seeing the puppy being cared for by Andromeda, she remembered Annabel’s bird. The bird lessened the fear she had of pets. And by the way, how’s Annabel feeling this morning?

“Why don’t you leave the consequences that come with that and answer my question? Otherwise, I would probably need to call Mother on your behalf,” Andromeda simply mumbled.

Walking over to the couch and sitting on it, she placed the little puppy which was trying to hide its eyes from the brightness in the room on her lap.

Vera was confused and worried at the same time. It was where she was gazing around that her eyes fell on the puppy that was on Andromeda’s lap again, She stared at it deeply and realized that it wasn’t the same as the one she left with her. Did Andromeda replace it again?

Truly, Andromeda likes having pets around her. But particularly, she prefers having them as a puppy. She loves pets when they’re small and cute, and not when it’s wide and scary. But Vera on the other hand never liked any, at least, not after her parrot died.

“What do you want me to say then? I went to England,” Vera controlled her eyes not to look at Andromeda, she didn’t want to be in her emotions. It wasn’t in her plan, to tell the truth to her son, and neither did she want to deceive her again.

“The truth, the truth is what I want you to say. And stop lying that you went to England because you didn’t, I’m sure of it,” Andromeda’s palm on the puppy stopped moving and she used the opportunity to glare at Vera.

If Vera is the same sister she had always known before she went away, it would be difficult for her to lie again. There was no evidence she had been lying, but with what she observed yesterday, Vera didn’t travel to England and if she did, she had returned to the country a long time ago.

“Should I ask Mother to come and find out the truth? Her tears and pleads will probably work better than my kind words,” Andromeda blackmailed, ready to stand up after picking the puppy from her lap but Vera screamed,

“Okay, I’ll tell you the truth.”

When Damien woke up in the morning he felt better but not entirely doing well. In his dream, there was nothing related to his reality happening, but the moment he opened his eyes, all the pain of late night didn’t fail to visit him again.

Lifting his tired body from the bed and hissing when he remembered Gregory’s betrayal yesterday. Why has that grumpy human never called him to apologize, yet?

In a tired expression, Damien placed his legs in his footwear, and without having anything else in mind, he headed to Annabel’s room.

It’s morning already and he needs to check how she’s doing this morning. Even if he needs to assure her of Vera coming back soon Damien doesn’t mind.

When he got to Annabel’s room he knocked, at the same time speaking to let her know that he was the one coming in to see her.

Damien opened the door for himself and entered the room to meet Annabel standing closer to her window, all dressed but appearing moody.

“Annabel?” he called calmly, surprised to meet her there because he thought she would probably be lying down on her bed.

“Good morning, Damien,” Annabel greeted, then she turned around to speak with him. The last time they were able to speak was yesterday in the morning when Vera was still around.

“Did you sleep well?” Damien asked and raised his arms for her to come closer to him. Annabel saw that and didn’t hesitate.

Annabel fused her lips and walked towards him, diving into his arms and letting them wrap around her slender body, making sure he didn’t make it tight to the extent of making her feel uncomfortable.

“I couldn’t sleep well. I miss Vera so much,” she started while bursting into tears immediately.
