Chapter three
Ngozi’s pov
I woke up and looked at my bedside table, I saw the album, ‘ Zee and Cisco BFF ‘ the memories kept flooding back, my birthday party, six years ago, Francisco had been the first to wish me a happy birthday and we had vowed to each other ‘ as long as there is only one zee, only one Cisco, we will be best friends forever’ now everything’s changed, no one calls me Zee anymore, I try to take my mind off it but what Francis said on new year’s morning kept haunting me.
I came out of my room and met my five years old sister, Chioma, staring dreamily into space, when she saw me, she hugged me and showed me a big baby doll ” sister, see what brother Francis got for me, he saw me staring at it yesterday and guess what, he got it for me this morning, isn’t that sweet” ” yes it is” that was one thing I admire about Francis, he would never act differently to my siblings just because we aren’t on good terms and I wouldn’t do that to his brother either. Chioma saw me frowning and asked ” aren’t you okay with it because brother Francis gave it to me” ” no princess, I’m fine with it” ” sister, what is the matter, you look sad, I saw you crying early in the morning on new year’s day, are you ok” I was shocked, so Chioma saw me, I dey fear this girl o ” I just had some issues, I’ll sort it out” ” with Cisco right?” ” did anyone ever tell you, you’re too nosy, princess Chi” I tickled her and carried her on my shoulders, she started giggling, I love my sister, she is so cute ” alright princess Chi, let’s do our chores or we’ll get late to school”
Francis’s pov
The first thing I did when I got to school that morning was to locate my cliques, Jerry and Ahmed, we were like totally different in nature, Ahmed was more like a gang star, he had the physique and Jerry was like a super nerd, with his lean frame and spectacles, right now, I need to talk to Jerry ” my guy, shey na we send your gf make she break up with you, you just abandon us” Ahmed teased ” I have warned you several times, Ngozi isn’t my gf o” ” whatever” Ahmed said, the punched me in the arm and jogged to the training room, he always train thirty minutes before the assembly, I faced Jerry ” Jerry how things” ” I’m fine, I was just discovering some really cool stuffs, do you know that 99% of people cannot lick their elbows, do you know that the cells in your body react to everything your mind says, so negativity brings down your immune system and makes you feel sick, do you know ……” ” I know it already” I quickly cut him short or else he would go on with his ‘ do you know’ for hours ” Jerry, do you know Donald” ” oh you mean Donald Stevenson, he is my group mate, why are you asking?” ” I’m just curious” ” I would warn you not to cross paths with Jim cause his parents are really rich, I mean Porsche kind of rich although he is a freak” ” why do you say so, Jerry you don start again o” ” I’m serious, he has some mental problems, I did a check on him, he was expelled from boarding school, I’m astonished that he was accepted at Princeton, but I guess money covers multitude of crimes” ” what did he do” ” he killed a classmate, it was said that he really likes the girl, she was pretty, it was more like an infatuation, he kidnapped her, camped her in an isolated island for thirty days and killed her slowly, and the worst part is that he spent only a year in jail” ” my God! You mean there is a murderer in our midst” ” exactly, so I’m warning you, don’t cross paths with him, I know you can be hotheaded at times” my only thought was ‘ God please keep Ngozi safe’ , I need to warn Ngozi before it is too late, I head out and saw Amanda give me a slip of paper and walked away, ‘ We Could Talk You Know’ I read it aloud, wow!, so Amanda likes me, Amanda is the most popular girl in school, she is curvy and s€×y, guys crave her attention like crazy. I’m amazed that she likes me, well things are happening at Princeton college.
Ngozi’s pov
I pick up my bag and was about to leave when my phone beeped, it was a message from Kate ‘ if you’re bored, just come to the third hall on the first floor, there is a crazy game of Dare or pay going on, come if you’re up to it’ I debated over it, I decided to go, what more can Iose, it was only when I saw Francis there that it finally sunk in that the wh0le class is present, there was only one seat left and it was next to Francis, I took it, you were asked to pick from a big box on the table, you would do whatever the paper says or pay the fine, it was really crazy, I saw Bobby lick dust from everyone’s shoes just because he couldn’t pay the fine of two hundred naira, I was having fun until it was Francis’s turn to pick, he opened the paper and looked at me solemnly, I read the paper ‘ k-ss the girl next to you or pay the fine of ten thousand naira’ I was aghast!, k-ss Francis in front of the wh0le class,
suddenly I heard someone speak up ” I’ll pay the fine, k-ss me instead” Amanda again!, how I dislike this girl, shameless, slut, arrogant, spoilt, name it. I saw her count ten crisp thousand naira notes and placed it on the table, I saw Francis look at me and back at Amanda, and he k-ssed her, he actually k-ssed her, I felt like crying, I stumbled blindly as I stormed out of the hall , I felt someone run after me ” Ngozi wait” it was Kate ” hey Kate” ” Ngozi what’s the matter, you’ve been acting strange, especially with Francis, you are just trying out make him notice you” “was I doing that” ” yes and that’s what he’s doing too” ” Kate it’s a long story” ” you know you can tell me anything” ” I and Cisco k-ssed on new year” ” wow I knew your friendsh¡p was bound to lead into a relationsh¡p, what now happened” ” it was wonderful but Francis said it was the greatest mistake of his life that he regretted every moment of it, I felt terrible and maybe that’s why I’ve been trying to make him notice me, just to tell me that I wasn’t the only one affected by our k-ss, that it wasn’t horrible k-ssing me ” ” that’s complicated, I’m not sure he meant that, what was your first reaction when he k-ssed you” ” it was shock, more like stunned” ” I think he just said she to make you feel comfortable and you took it the wrong way” ” maybe, Kate do you know I’ve always had a crush on Francis” ” really! I had no idea” ” since we were kids, but he didn’t feel the same way, not that I told him o, but when he said he regretted our k-ss, I felt really depressed, I wish I could have my best friend back” ” aaaawn come on everything will be okay, just tell Francis what you’re feeling” ” what! And get humiliated” ” no just do it, and if he hasn’t any feelings for you, you would still be friends” ” okay I know he like Amanda anyway” ” you have started again, everything will be alright “” ” thanks Katie, you’re a darling” ” you’re welcome, sugar pie” Kate said and hugged me, she headed to her home and I headed to mine
I walked to the bus station and I saw Donald, what is he doing here? ” hi, I’m Donald Stevenson and you are” I roll my eyes ‘ like I don’t already know’ ” Ngozi, Ngozi Adams” ” it’s a pleasure talking to you, you’re so beautiful, do you know that” he gripped my hand a little too tightly ” he doesn’t deserve you, you know, sometimes the people we love are the ones who hate us the most” ” what do you mean by that” he didn’t answer, he stopped a taxi and zoomed off

Chapter four
Amanda’s pov
I guess you’ve heard about me, but I’ll introduce myself anyway, I’m Amanda Smith, the s€×iest girl in this goddamned school, I’m seventeen, jeez! Most people don’t believe that, and even me too at times, I have a very curvy and damn! s€×y body, guys drool over me and I’m absolutely f-cking proud of my figure

That’s Tife, and she is my closest friend, “don’t tell me you want to be Princeton queen ” Tife said rolling her eyes at my Knee length skirt and buttoned up shirt while on a normal day, I’ll have three buttons open and my skirt would be th-gh length, no one dares to question me, I’m sorry did I mention the fact that my father owns this school, pardon me if I didn’t, Princeton college is my father’s school.
“let’s just say the crown is mine already ”
Then I saw Francis approaching me, I don’t know why I’m attracted to him, he has this virile masculine body and a super handsome face, and he has this lazy grin that could charm most ladies and it worries me that I am not immune to his charms.
I can still remember the way he k-ssed me, no one had ever k-ssed me that way, I get bored with guys easily but I have a feeling that it’s gonna be different with Francis.
” wake up Mandy, you’ve been staring at that guy for minutes ” “I want to date him” I blurt out before realizing what I just said ” whoa! We’re bitches Mandy and bitches don’t date” I gave Tife two thunderous slaps, her eyes were swimming with tears and her l-ips were wobbling ” how dare you question what I do, who made you a bitch” I watched the hurt look on her face but I know she can’t dare to defy me “I’m sorry Mandy ” “sorry for yourself, worthless piece of trash ” that was one thing about me, I have a quick temper.
Francis winked at me before walking past, wow! He actually winked at me, wait oh! Am I mad?, is something wrong with my sense?, he should be the one feeling happy that I, Amanda Smith, has an interest in him and not the other way round, I thought as I and Tife entered the classroom.
Ngozi’s pov
It is a free period
And the wh0le class is like a market square
Everything is just chaos
“vote for me as your Princeton queen ” someone yelled from behind
” thunder fire you! Ordinary carpenter’s daughter like you wants to be queen ” a male voice replied, shutting her up
“free zobo everyday, vote for tosin as your Princeton king”
“please go and sit down, I’ll rather vote for the one with the free vests ”
” you guys are still arguing over zobo and vests, haven’t you checked your whatsapp Chris is already giving out 1k airtime to all students ”
” 1k what! Abeg, I need to check my phone ”
” if everyone wants to be king and queen, who will vote for who” I said to my friends, Kate and Bukky
” the junior students will vote for them ” Bukky said
“I’m loving every moment of this wh0le king and queen thing, I mean, free drinks, free snacks, customized vests and even free airtime ” Kate said enthusiastically
” Ngozi my love, my heartbeat, the queen of my heart, will you please be my esc-rt to the gala ”
I turned to the direction of that voice and I smiled when I realized that it was Tope
“no oooo! Do you want Bukky to kill me ni”
I said as I watched Tope give Bukky a peck, Tope and Bukky have been dating for two years now and I sometimes feel a pang of envy when looking at the genuine affection and the pure love that existed between them, but nevertheless I am happy for them
” Tope, aren’t you contesting for Princeton king” Kate asked him
He smiled and winked at Bukky “with Bukky as my queen, I am already a king ”
He said before he left our class.
” so it’s obvious that Bukky already has an esc-rt, what about us, Ngozi? ”
I rolled my eyes in an helpless gesture
” Ngozi, I know that look and whatever you’re thinking, I’m not buying it, we’re going to the gala and we’re going with esc-rts ” Kate said
“wow! Look who’s coming to our class ”
I don’t even have to look before I know who it is, I could tell by the astonished faces of my classmates and the deafening silence that welcomed his arrival
He didn’t say anything, he just walked to the marker board and wrote in block letters
TUTORIALS IN MY HOUSE TOMORROW

FOUR PM.
“wow! I can’t even say anything, this is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard, a chance to enter the house of the billionaire heir, Donald Stevenson, immediately, all the give-aways by the other students felt like trash compared to this simple invitation by Donald.
He started to walk towards me and I found myself inhaling his cologne, he smells great, he touched my hand and whispers something incoherent into my ear
“you can ask Ngozi about the details of my house ”
He said before walking out of the class.
“I want to faint oh”
“please, someone should pour water on my head ”
“Donald invited us to his house, am I dreaming ”
“Ngozi knows Donald house, after God, fear girls oh”
I just listened to the dialogue of different students, I see a message pop up on the screen of my phone
3, primrose road, Ajifowowe street’
I would be glad if you could come
Ngozi.
Different thoughts came to my mind
How did Donald get my number?
I had no idea he lives close by!
Wait! Could it be that Donald is trying to boost my popularity and make me Princeton queen?
Is he interested in me?
My popularity was already skyrocketing because it was obvious from the friendly and patronising looks I was getting from my class mates
” Ngozi you need to tell us what’s going on, the wh0le class are already calling you Donald’s girlfriend, we are confused ”
Bukky brought me out of my reverie with her questions.
In order to avoid being pestered, I picked up the black marker and wrote Donald’s address on the board.
“come on, Kate, Bukky, let’s get out of here ”
I step out of the class and bumped into Francis
” hey! Watch where you’re going ”
I say in an angry tone, I’ve been feeling angry ever since he k-ssed Amanda during the dare or pay game
I turn my face into a mask of absolute disgust
“yes? What is it ”
” Ngozi, why the attitude? ”
“if that’s all what you have to say, kindly excuse me ”
I start to walk away but I feel his fingers close over my hand and he pulled me back , and in that moment, my body betrayed me, I want to wrap up my arms around him and have him k-ss me senseless but I remember what he said on new year’s morning ‘I’m very sorry zee, k-ssing you was the greatest mistake of my life ‘
And that was what brought me back to reality
“Ngozi please stay away from Donald, he is a dangerous person ”
I saw him dip his hand in his hair and sighed
“and why are you telling me this ”
I say in an acid voice.
I wish he could just say that he cared about me.
” I don’t just like that guy, he is bad for you, believe me that guy is a psycho ”
“OK, I have heard, so excuse me ”
I walked out on him and Kate and Bukky ran to catch up with me
” Ngozi, why are you being so hærd on Francis ”
Kate queries me
“I miss him ”
I say with tears swimming in my eyes
“who” Kate and Bukky shout at the same time
” Francis ”
They shook their heads
” Ngozi I swear I don’t understand you ”
Francis pov
I don’t understand Ngozi
Why is she acting so cold to me
What did I do wrong
But whatever it is, I won’t let that crazy psycho get her
I love her
Well, it’s true, I have always loved her
And I’ll be dammed if I let Donald hurt her.
