THE ONE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR

🌹CHAPTER 8🌹

MATILDA’S POV
He turned the car and followed him but made sure he wasn’t noticed by him. Good he said and I wondered why, I didn’t even know why I looked at the side mirror at that time, but I was surprised when I saw different cars following us and it dawned on me that the boss said the good because of them. He must’ve seen them already…I thought

How were they able to get here so fast? I asked him but he ignored me and focused on the driving instead. I wonder why you chose to be ignoramus in nature… I said inwardly

The cars overtook us and drove faster than the boss. “Make sure he get caught” he ordered
Thanks for doing all these for me though I keep wondering why he’s after me… I said to him and he ignored again. “He’s so annoying” I thought and continued watching them race.

He’s so smart to have noticed he’s been followed… the boss said but to himself I guess. He turned back and followed another direction, but one could easily tell he’s left the task to his workers. “stay in the car and don’t ever get down no matter how I am” he ordered before alighting and I nodded.

I woke up and was feeling hungry, I didn’t even know when I dozed off since he refused to ret-rn on time. I checked the time and it was almost 5pm, wow! So he’s been away for good five hours without even considering the fact that he left someone in the car, is that how rude he could be? Well! I dare not to blame him, at least he offered to help me. I said to myself

“I really need to eat something, I’m so hungry” I said to myself as I searched the car to see if I’ll find some cash to go get something to eat, but I didn’t. It seems I’ll have to go back to my old ways… I said and opened the door and thankfully, he didn’t lock me in,side.

I walked down the street hoping I’d find someone to give me something to eat. I saw a guy paying for snack he bought and decided to walk up to him to try my luck.

Excuse me sir, I need something to eat, could you buy s… I was saying but paused when the person faced me and he happened to be Desmond. Desmond! I called and hugged him forgetting the fact that I almost embarrassed myself in front of him.

Hey what’s up, what are you doing here and how have you been? He asked “I am fine” how’s my friend doing? Please can I talk to her with your phone? I lost mine a long time ago… I said

She’s been worried too, she tried searching for you by all means and even visited your previous home, but she couldn’t find you. There she comes though… he said and I looked back. Anita! I scre-med and ran to hug her. What’s wrong with you, where have you been and what happened to your phone, why have you chosen to kill me with heartache? She said. I just finished explaining to Desmond.

A lot happened when you were away, Elon came back for me and he was at the verge of killing me, but I was saved by the owner of the place I’m currently living in… I explained “you found a better place to live in? she asked and I nodded. “I’m actually living with him under the disguise of memory loss” I added and her eyes w¡dened. HIM? She asked

“Yes! Do you remember the guy I told you I went to his house by hiding myself in his car trunk? I asked and she nodded. Well! He’s the only person that came to my mind when I was being chased by Elon. I went to his house to seek for his help, though he refused at first, but I was surprised when I woke up in the hospital and saw him by my bed… I narrated.

“ Alright, so tell me how you were able to win him over with your fake memory loss” she said and I explained everything to her.
OMG! I said and gasp on remembering that I’m not supposed to be out of the car as it has been given to me as an order. What is wrong?

Desmond and Anita asked as they stopped eating.” The boss” I said and what’s wrong with the boss? They asked again and I told them why I suddenly stopped eating.

Take this, I’ll be calling you on it with the new number I get, but please don’t let it get lost… Anita said handling me the phone she’s using.

Thanks dear, I’ll get going now… I said and made to leave.

I’d have loved to go with you, but since you said he might wanna let go of you if he knows I have any related one. Just make sure you stay safe and avoid getting caught, okay? She said and I nodded.

I’m glad I ran into you two today, it really means a lot to me… I replied.

JOHN’S POV
I was so engrossed with the fun I was having with my friends that I had totally forgotten about the person i left in the car. I was reminded by the call I heard from my men to tell me the outcome of the task I have them earlier which happens to have turned out bad because they lost him, I was so dissapointed when they told me he’s working with someone who happens to be the one that came to his aid during the chase.

I stopped drinking immediately. “I have to get going” I said to my buddies and ran out ignoring their questions and calls.

I got to the car but she isn’t in. I checked around but still couldn’t find her. What am I even thinking? Why would she still be in,side when she isn’t an abnormal being. I thought.

Where do I go to find her now, I mean she doesn’t even have a phone… I said to myself as I placed to and fro.

What’s up buddy, why do you look disturbed? Chris, a friend of mine said as he came out.

I left someone in the car and I’ve totally forgotten about her… I said

You mean her? Who is she by the way? He asked. “Just some random girl I decided to help for the mean time” I replied and kept looking around to catch a glimpse of her but I didn’t.

“I totally allowed fun to take over me” I said.

What does she look like? Tell me so we’ll know how to search for her… He said.

How am I supposed to know that, I don’t even look at her for a minute. I don’t know her physique or stature. She isn’t in my league at all, I just decided to assist her, so never would I have thought something like this will come up. I replied

At least you’d know what she looks like, take a look at the lady coming behind you, does she look any way like who you’re looking for? He said and I turned. I heaved a sigh of relief on sighting her walk towards us.

I almost ran to meet her but comported myself. “I don’t even know why I’m this worried about someone I hærdly know” I thought as I waited for her to get to us.

“Good evening sirs” she greeted. Evening pretty, how are you? Chris replied cheerfully.

And what is so good about the evening that made you disobey me by leaving the car without my consent!!! I half yelled.

I’m sorry about that, but I was so hungry and I couldn’t help but leave the car to go find something to eat… She replied and I felt guilt eating me up.

Oh! Sorry about that, I hope you’ve gotten something to eat now? Chris chirped in and I shot him a glare.

What? C’mon dude,I’m just trying to save your ass here. You’re at fault. You shouldn’t have left her alone in the car regardless of her personality… He said

I’m sorry once again, but I found myself begging for something to eat when I couldn’t find any money in the car… She said

Of course you would. A beggar, that’s who you are and it’s an indirect way of telling you about your lifestyle. Imagine someone telling me she found herself begging on the street, that’s absurd you know… Wait a sec, were you trying to steal from me with what you just said about searching the car for money? I said and her countenance changed immediately.

“John! C’mon that’s harsh man” Chris interrupted. Okay fine! Can I take her with me? At least she can start working for me if you find her unwanted… He added

“Suit yourself” I said and entered my car and drove away leaving them stunned. I don’t even know how I’m feeling right now… I thought as I hit the steering.

Welcome sir, but where’s Matilda? My gatekeeper asked as soon as I drove in as he kept checking to see if she’s in.

“She’s no longer coming here” I replied coldly

I entered the main house and that was the same question others asked me while I gave them the same answer, though it’s only one among my workers that seem happy that she’s gone, but I care less.

Days later, I found myself guilty of treating her in such way, so I took my car keys and drive straight to Chris’s apartment.

I didn’t even knock and I need to authorization to enter his house since his workers know who I am.

I got in and met them sitted facing each other with a smile on their faces.

“So tell me about yourself” was what I heard Chris say to her but was cut short when I interrupted.

“Let’s go home” I said facing her

Excuse me? They both said in unison

🌹CHAPTER 9🌹

MATILDA’S POV
Why would you just come into my house without knocking and tell the person you find to be burdensome so sudden to follow you home, is she some kind of toy to you? Chris replied to the words he uttered.

Chris I introduced he to you, remember? So I have the right to take her with me anytime I want. He replied. “because I’m some sort of toy right?” I chirped in. ”

Fine! I’m sorry I treated you that way” he apologized which made Chris and I look at each other before giving ourselves a high five. “it’s good you learnt your lessons, I’m glad I made you do that though. Treat her well bro, or I’ll be forced to take her from you forever… Chris warned and I saw John give him a middle finger.

Go wait for us outside, I need to help her pack up, we weren’t expecting you before… Chris added but he went to sit in one of the sofas instead and Chris and I laughed as we ran to my room upstairs.

“Make sure you call me if anything goes wrong in that house and I won’t hesitate to do as I’ve said” Chris said to me as we were about driving away and I nodded and thanked him for accommodating me so well… I replied.

So you adapted to his environment that easily when you find it hærd to adapt to mine? He said to me as we drove home. “well that’s because no one ever liked my presence there, I’m sure they’d be happier that I’m out of the picture” I replied

If only you knew they all missed your presence in the house” he said and my eyes w¡dened. “are you for real?” I asked and he nodded so let me so you that question I heard him ask when I entered. Tell me about about yourself… he said

I am Matilda and that’s what I can remember… I replied
I am john Thomas, a business man with a sad past I hate to be reminded of and talked about. I have a little brother whom you will be meeting soon.

I don’t think it’d be nice if you just remain in the house without having anything tangible you’re doing, so you’ll be working as my personal assistant at home, I have one that works for me at the office already… he said and my heart leaped in joy
Alright! I would appreciate that… I replied.

“Wow! Matilda is back, i don’t know why I’m suddenly happy by your presence.” The gatekeeper said as soon as I alighted and that put a slight smile on my face. At least I have someone who now appreciate my presence.

I got in and was only welcomed by a blazing eyes but I ignored that and greeted others that gave me welcome back smiles. I took another glance at her and still find her glaring at me, but all I could do was to saunter away.

What on earth is wrong with you, can’t you just stop being clumsy in your life? Do I have to keep teaching you how to do things‼️! All the time? John yelled at me angrily at the mistake I made on not remembering to microwave hid meal before taking it to him. “I’m sorry sir” I apologized and ran out of the room to go correct my mistakes.

Is this what Anita is also going through? I asked myself as I got to the kitchen. “you haven’t seen anything yet” the stupid lady said as she entered the kitchen but I ignored her to avoid trouble.

I went back to my room after serving him. Isn’t it better being a beggar than working under someone receiving different insult everyday? I asked myself as I pondered over the issues I’ve been having. It’s still better than begging though, at least I have a roof over my head. All I have to do is just keep enduring… I said again and picked my phone to place a call across Anita

Days Later
“Bring those in,side” The boss said to me as he rushed out of the car as soon as we got to the compound after returning from the place we went.

“He must’ve really missed his brother” I said to the gatekeeper as he helped me offload the things in the car.

You can take them in yourself, I need to return to my duty post so he won’t get angry at me… He said

Thanks, I can help myself now… I replied

I got in,side and met two people I almost mistook for twins sitting beside each other chatting with joy written all over their faces.

“Good day” I greeted, by his brother only gave me a weird look which left me confused. “Wait! I think I’ve seen him somewhere” I thought as I stared at him for a while.

Who is she? He asked his brother.

That’s the lady I told you about. I’ve hired her as my personal assistant here at home since she’s got nothing to do… He replied

C’mon, I’ve told you to be more classy when choosing your workers. This lady right here shouldn’t be working with you, she’s not worth it… The boss’s brother replied

Excuse me, have we met before? Why the sudden hatred? And why did you judge me by my appearance? I said getting angry but trying my possible best to comport myself.

Wow! Is this who you call your worker? She has the gut to talk back at the boss’s brother, oh! Bro c’mon you don’t deserve this… He said to his brother but I left their presence before he could reply.

I was sitting in the living room watching a movie one day when the boss’s brother came to interrupt by obstructing my view. The boss isn’t around, so I know he has the authority to do anything with me since no one will stop him.

Excuse me sir, how may I help you? I asked after adjusting my sitting posture.

Take this, he said handling me an envelope filled with money. Leave here before my brother returns and never come back. I’m sure the money in the there would be sufficient enough for you if you spend it wisely… He said

And why would you tell me to leave when you’re not the one that employed me here, I’ll leave only if the boss returns and he support you… I replied

Hey Mia come over here… He called and she came running over.

“Go pack her things and bring them here this instant” he ordered her. Of course he knows she’s the only one that hates my gut and who would do anything to get rid of me.

“Alright sir, I’ll be right back” she replied with a slight bow and made to leave.

“Move an inch over there and get yourself paralyzed forever” I said coldly and she paused.

Me? She asked.
