Sam didn’t mean to freak her out but he knows how sensitive she is and he regretted calling her right then, he should have waited till daybreak before calling.

He has no choice now but to tell her and pray she gets Sandra to help her come to the hospital to avoid her dying even before seeing their daughter know if she’s surviving or not.

“Rose is sick, we are at the City’s Central Hospital, she’s fine, I promise you” He tried coolly as he swiped sweat off his forehead.

“Oh, God” Eva’s heart leaped just the same way as her as she flew across the room to get herself out of the suddenly hot room, she forgot how to draw in air.

“Eva! Don’t act rash, okay? I promise she’s doing fine, trust me” He assured her though he doesn’t know if she’s still listening.

“I will be there right away!” She smashed the phone to a corner and ran outside into the cool night air.

December nights are always cold, as her feet hit the sand, she thought of running back in,side for slippers at least but Sandra will have to help her with that.

In seconds, she’s already banging at her friend’s door with all her might, “Sandra! Oh, God, please” she wept bitterly.

Why would those dreams haunt her now? Why should have to be Rose? She is used to bad omen but not to her children! She could just die to keep them safe from her dark life.

She had the worst childhood, faced discrimination and neglect as a teenager, endured heartbreak, and know that someone is mending her heart, it’s taking a U-turn.

Everything that happened these few days, she underwent it for them, to give them a good life of love and harmony from her and their father.

“Jesus Christ! Eva, is being chased by a ghost?” Sandra cried when she saw her friend’s terrific look.

“Am sorry to disturb you, please, Sandra, take me to Central hospital” Eva sobbed.

“Hospital? What for? What happened? Are you hurt? Did…”

“Please! Let’s just go, Rose is dying, I saw it in my dreams and Sam just called to tell me”

“Okay, fine. Let me get the car key and…good God, you are going to freeze to death without footwear” Sandra was saying as she went about looking for her car keys and footwear.

“Thank you, I know I can trust you,” Eva said slipping her foot into the sandals she offered her and running falling into step behind her as she went to where she parked her car.

Sandra drove off immediately they got into the car and Eva couldn’t feel more grateful. They got to the hospital at four minutes past four in the early morning.

Eva hurried into the reception before Sandra found a space to park her car.

“Oh, Sam. Where’s Rose?” She ran into his arms and allowed him to hug her.

“Babe, she will be fine, I just spoke with the doctor” Sam assured her.

“Can… Can I see her at least?” She asked looking around as if she must be somewhere around the reception.

“We will, the doctor said we should let her rest first”

“I won’t disturb her, I just want to know if…”

“She’s fine, okay, let’s go see her, I will talk to the doctor first,” Sam said and led her into the doctor’s office.

“Mr. Samuel? Thank God you are here, I was about calling for you” the doctor said at the sight of them and replaced the receiver.

“Did something come up, doc?” Sam inquired as they sat down.

“Not…really, I want to talk with you in private” the doctor informed and Eva’s grip on his wrist tightened.

“You can talk to us, she’s…my wife, Doctor,” Sam told him and squeezed Eva’s hand in the assurance that everything is going to be alright.

“Okay, if you say so…”

“Oh yes we are one and we got no secret,” He said proudly k-ssing her knuckles, which set her at ease.

“Well, it’s not much of a problem, Mr. Samuel, it’s just that your daughter has a heart disease, it’s very uncommon considering her age for it not to have been discovered earlier and that led to her fainting,” the doctor said.

Eva looked at Sam’s face in surprise, “what could have caused it? What sort of heart disease or is anonymous?” She queried impulsively.

“Very smart of you to ask, Mrs. Samuel, I’m glad you are stronger than you look and very good at directing questions” The doctor praised with a smile.

“That doesn’t answer the question. Please, doctor, talk to us, and in an understandable language, who knows if it’s critical?” Sam jumped in trying hærd to look patient enough.

“Tetralogy of Fallot is the name” He went straight to the point and gave them a supervising look to know if they are following.

“A rare condition caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth. These defects cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart and into the rest of the body.

Risk factors include a viral illness such as rubella (German measles) during pregnancy, maternal alcoholism, or a family history of the condition.

It is rare to find or discover it among teens of your daughter’s age because it’s very discoverable at infancy.

Anyway, the good news is that she will live a normal life and have healthy growth like every other child out there,” The doctor explained while they listened with rapt attention.

“That’s a lot of… Well, you know better, what can be done to help her, I hope she’s not at risk of early death” Sam stated, he noticed Eva was about to say something too and stopped when he spoke up.

“TOF, like I said before, is a group of four congenital heart defects and so she would have to undergo open-heart surgery for it to be repaired to enable an improvement in her health and quality of life” The doctor explained patiently.

“Surgery? God, I hope she won’t die? I don’t want anything to happen to my daughter, how can this be possible? Eva broke down.

“Calm down, from reports, research, and experience as a personnel in the field, I know there’s 70% assurance of her survival, you don’t have to worry though, she’s in safe hands”

“How come it wasn’t found out all this while?” She looked at Sam thoughtfully.

“Sometimes, it happens. And the early symptoms too didn’t give a notice, she is a strong girl” The doctor confirmed.

“Doctor, resume treatment on her immediately and don’t worry about the bill, I will meet your Secretary soon to make all required payments, please, just let my daughter live” Sam prompted.

“Alright, then I should get prepared for surgery as soon as possible,” The doctor said standing up.

“Can I see her before then?” Eva followed the doctor when he moved out, Sam was a bit slow and down all of a sudden.

“You can, you are free to,” the doctor replied wearing eyeglasses.

Eva noticed Sam’s sudden withdrawal and went to him, he took his hand and assured him that he had given her so far.

“Why now?” He murmured.

“Who are we to question God? It’s enough that her problem is curable and she will be fine, okay?” She confided hugging him.

“I pray so”
