Chapter 8:

He returned back to the dinning, saying nothing to anyone. Max and Ruby ate their food hurriedly, while they went to the kitchen to drop their empty plates, they took mine too.

They left to their rooms, leaving the three of us alone.
” I’m sorry for what Queen told you, I hope she’ll learn her lesson from this. ” He apologized on her behalf.

” It’s okay, uncle Kelvin, I don’t why she had to say those. Maybe, I haven’t been a good sister to her. ”

” Don’t say that, you’ve been more than enough to her, she’s only being ungrateful. ”

” Please, don’t get too angry with her. She’s just a kid. ”

” A kid who has to respect her elders. ” Aunty Tracy took his plates away, ” I can see how effortlessly you’re working for your company, your pictures are becoming the talk of the town. ” He praised.

I chuckled softly, ” We haven’t had an open advert until today, why would my picture be all over New York all of a sudden? ”

” Guess today’s advert just got you trending. ”

” Why do you say so? ” Aunty Tracy asked.

” It’s all over the media already. Miss Diana Craig of Sparrow’s Boutique Enterprise. ”

I gasped loud. ” You f-cking serious?! ”

” You can check it out if you want? ” He was about to log into the internet when his phone started ringing.

” Who’s that? ” She asked.

” I don’t know. ” He picked to call, ” Hello, who am I speaking to? ” He asked.

” Hey Kel, it’s me, Marco. ” Said the voice from the other side of the call.

” Oh, Marco, I wasn’t expecting you to call. ”

” I got access to the telephone at the neighbouring village. How is Diana and Tracy? ” He asked.

Kelvin looked at her, nodding his head. ” She’s doing great over here. ”

” That’s a relief then. ”

” How is Jenny? ” He asked, referring to Diana’s mother.

” She’s doing great too. ” He let out a heavy sigh, ” Are you alone now? ” He asked.

” No, Tracy and Diana are with me. Is there a problem? ” Kelvin asked with concern.

” Can you go somewhere else, I wanna tell you something. ”

” Okay, ” he stood up, leaving to his room.

” What do you think they’re up to? ” Tracy asked.

Diana shrugged, ” I have no idea. ”

” What? ” Kelvin exclaimed.

” Yes, and I think there’s something Diana has that belongs to him. ”

” Something like what? ”

” I don’t know, can you ask her yourself? She might not talk to me if I ask her myself. ”

” I will do that. Is everyone safe? ”

” He promise to kill everyone in Acanda if he finds out that she isn’t in New York. ” He sighed again, ” I don’t know what to do now. Jenny is freaking out here and she hærdly sleeps at night. Do you think he’s going to kill her? ”

” I don’t think so. But, let me ask you this. ”

” Sure. ”

” Did you ever suspected anything about your daughter before she left Acanda to New York? Like something weird to suspect? ”

” No. ” He answered, ” It was only the time when she had to leave home and never came back with Micky. ”

” Micky? ”

” That’s her puppy. ” He explained. ” But we never took that to be so important. Everyone looses a pet, right? ”

” I’ll see what I can do about this. ”

” I will be waiting for your response. Bye. ”

” Bye. ” He hung the call.

After a thoughtful while, he returned back to the sitting room.

Diana ✓

His face wore no expression, and I could hærdly tell if he was angry or not.

Tracy looked at me, then at him saying nothing. He heaved a heavy sigh, ” It’s your father. He called to check on you. ”

” How his he? ” I asked, sounding concerned.

” He’s fine, as well as your mother. Don’t be troubled about them. ” I nodded.

” What did he say? ” Aunty Tracy anxiously asked.

” He… ” He paused, ” he said there’s someone after you. ” Referring to me.

” Who? Why would someone be after me? ”

” He said he isn’t sure but, he thinks you have something that belongs to them. ”

Aunty Tracy threw her gaze at me, ” Do you have anything that belongs to them? ”

I shook my head, ” I don’t. ”

” Then why are they after her? ”

” The mark. ” He simply said after a moment of thoughtful silence. ” It’s been twelve years and they’ve come back for it. ”

” What mark? ” Mrs Tracy’s eyes grew wide.

” The mark on my wrist. ” I openly told her.

” Is… Is that why you always have the bracelet on? ”

I nodded my head.

I took off the bracelet, exposing the mark to her. She held my hand, as if staring at it wasn’t enough.

She rubbed her fingers on it, gasping in fright. ” What did this to you? ” She asked.

” I got bitten by a wolf… that was twelve years ago. ”

” But what’s so special about this? It’s just a bite from an animal. ”

” It might not be so special to us, but it is to the one who has given that mark to you. It doesn’t sound like it’s just an animal who’s after you, it’s more like a human being. ”

” Those are just nonsense uncle, maybe they’re only being too curious on who their wolf bit. Look, since that night, I waited for a change, I thought that one day I will be like them but here I am, just the same as always. ”

” They threatened to hurt your village if they don’t find the blonde haired girl with a puppy. ”

” Micky, ” came the word out of my mouth.

” This is more serious than we think, Diana. ”

” Does he knows I’m here? ” If he doesn’t know my whereabout, then there’s nothing to bother about.

But if he does…

He nodded, ” Your mother had no choice. He threatened to kill her and the entire villagers. ”

Then I am doomed for good.

I won’t blame mom for doing what she did, everyone would have done the same. What matters now is how to escape from this creatures.

” What are we going to do? ” I asked.

I was so scared, my career my dreams will all be shattered if they take me away. I don’t wanna leave, I don’t wanna go anywhere.

” I wish I know, but for now I say we do nothing. No matter where we run to, he won’t stop finding you. You’re his prey, Diana and he’s your predator. ”

Guess I just have to take it that way…

Chapter 9:

” You can’t believe this, Diana. ” Emma said from the other side of the call.

” Believe what? ” Curioused, I asked.

” Are you watching the media now? ”

” No, I’m in my room. Is there a problem? ” She was still keeping me in suspense and I hated the fact that she wasn’t hitting straight to the point.

” Not at all. Your name is all over the media now. ”

” I know, my uncle told me that. ” I said reluctantly, not able to see that as a surprise.

” I’m damn serious about this, since your photoshoot went viral, your name has become the talk of the town. Everyone wishes to see you, the wh0le world are. Oh, Diana I wish I were you, I would be yelling in happiness right now. ”

The news sounded like a blast, I mean, the part where she said the wh0le world wishes to see me. I’m still a hundred percent surprised about this, it’s not even close to a day and I’m already viral like a popstar.

It’s really surprising, yet I find it hærd to believe. I slept in jubilation, forgetting my discussion with uncle Kelvin. I looked troubled while returning to my room but not anymore.

Now, I’m f-cking excited right now!!!

The night passed out just as I have wished. I don’t know what got over me this morning, I did everything hurriedly to go to work.

Uncle Kelvin had to go to work so early for an urgent matter, and Mrs Tracy was called for an emergency incident.

It’s me again with the three kids…

I was preparing while they were having breakfast. I first drove Max and Ruby to school, and it was Queeneth and I alone.

I wasn’t expecting either of us to talk, I know she hates me, and after what happened last night, there’s every chance for her to hate me the more.

We got to her school, I was expecting her to slam the door hærd and walk away like she never noticed me. Guess I’m always wrong about things.

She was staring at her hands as she pinched her fingers. ” I’m sorry. ” Came the soft words out of her mouth.

I didn’t say anything, but I was ready to listen to whatever she was about to say.

” I’m very sorry for yelling at you. I know you didn’t do anything and you didn’t worth any of that either. I thought that was the only way to make you leave. ”

” Why would you want me to leave? ” I remember back in those days when Queeneth and I spent together not just as sisters but as best friends too.

We always shared this girls little secret and most times we had great fun together especially when Max and Ruby were playing video games.

It’s still surprising you know, to have such great times together and now, we look completely like sworn enemies.

I hate to say that it really hurts a lot. The least thing I’ve ever wanted in my life is to have a quarrel with someone so close to me. Not to talk of my sister.

She’s only ten, we shouldn’t be having such annoying hatred for each other.

” To pay you back for what you did yesterday morning. ”

” But Queen, you knew I was running late for work and I had something important to do at the company. If you had gone, all this wouldn’t have happened. ”

” I know. ” She said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

” Look, I don’t hate you for anything, Queen but if there’s anything wrong I’ve done to you, please forgive me. ” I apologized.

Feeling more embarrassed, she looked away. ” I should be the one apologising. It’s me who started the quarrel not you. ”

” It doesn’t matter who is at fault or not, none of us deserve to hate the other. We’re the only girls around and we’re supposed to have each other’s back and not hating ourselves. ” I explained, sighing.

I never knew I had to use all the strength I’ve got to say that. But at least, it really was helpful.

” You’re right, we should have each other’s back. Do you hate me? ” She took her gaze off the window, now staring at me with eyes pleading for a sincere reply.

I don’t hate her.. for any reason. But I still want to know how she came to know about Acanda. It’s almost ten years ago since I came here which is likewise the same year they had given birth to her.

How does she know about Acanda. Has she been over hearing uncle Kelvin and I talking about it? Or did someone tell her?

I know aunty Tracy will never do such and uncle Kelvin can never have such discussion with his daughter.

I have a friend who has been very close to me since I graduated from college and I haven’t told him about my background.

How the hell then did she know about this? There’s someone who might have told her… Someone close to us.

” I don’t hate you for any reason, Queen. But I want to know something, who told you about Acanda and my family? ”

She looked outside again, and for a second, she stared at her fingers. ” No one. But… ” She paused, like she was scared to continue.

” But who? ”

” I once overheard Mom discuss with her friends about it. ”

Shocked, I asked. ” When was that? ”

She was counting her fingers, and when she got to the seventh finger, she stopped counting. ” Last weekend. ”

I didn’t want to believe what she had just said, aunty Tracy would never do such. I mean, what was so interesting to say about it?

” You were out for a walk with Jake, Max and Ruby were out to meet their friends and I was the only one at home, in my room. She might think I was sleeping but I wasn’t. Tom was tired, ” referring to her taddy toy, ” I didn’t want to disturb him. I could hear mom discussing with her friends, that was how I got to know about Acanda. ”

” What did you hear last night? ”

” Nothing, I was crying so, I couldn’t hear anything. ”

I sighed heavily, and it felt like I was bearing a heavy borden in me. The joy I had used to drive to work disappeared from me.

I felt the pains to be betrayed, to be talked about. And the questions kept poundering in my head… Why would aunty Tracy do that to me? Why would she be do willing to tell her friends about my family?

And last night I had explained to her what Queeneth had said to me, she didn’t much react the way Uncle Kelvin did.

Why do I feel much hurt for what she did than learning about the wolves threat on Acanda? Why do I look bothered than being wanted by a wolf?

I didn’t want her to notice my sudden feeling, she doesn’t have to.

The school bell rang, ” aunty Diana? ” She called for the nth time, I guess.

” Yes? ”

” I have to go, bye. ”

“Bye, ” She waved at me, leaving to school.

I drove out of the school premises, I couldn’t think straight, my joy was gone completely.

I wasn’t bothered about Queeneth knowing about my family background and the rest of them. But I am when it has to do with some group of persons involved too.

And I can’t stop imagining it looking like a Saturday class about me. Who knows what she has told to the others, and what those people has said about me?

Why is my brain being so calculative over this? I should be heading to work, acting like I heard shit about anything.

I got to the parking lot of the company, first taking a deep breath.

Now I’ve got two people who doesn’t want the good out of my life. One who desperately wants me, and the other who condemns me.

And I really don’t know who I’m to run away from…

I knew it… I suspected Aunty Tracy’s action towards when Diana told her everything. She didn’t react…
