CHAPTER TWO: COLD EYES 1
Her breathing, that’s what made me acknowledge that someone else is in my chamber, my gape slowly move to the book mona love reading, placed on the bed. If I remember accurately it was in the drawer.
Smiling at Mona, I merely nod then notice a dark piece of hair on my bed and that’s all I need to finalize my trepidation, someone is in my chamber and that too, hiding under my bed?
For what motive?
” Am pregnant” hearing those words, I stare at her blue eyes, she definitely look happy, oh yes…. This is the part where I smile and rejoice in being a father ” milord?” She call out my name and I flicker my eyes.
” You’re pregnant” reiterating her words, the smile came naturally to my face….for years now, I have been good at making these fake smiles real ” it’s definitely a good news ”
” Am glad you’re also delighted ” her voice calm, I watch how she move closer and relax on my body, her head on my chest ” am glad ” hearing her voice I nod but the whimpers coming from the bed is precautioning.
Mona has always been so slow and fragile to even keep up these clues, am pretty sure the other queens will try killing the baby if they hear of it ” I want you to keep it a private for now milady ” hearing that, she withdraw and look at me.
” But why? Aren’t you pleased to let the world know you will soon be a father ”
” Hmmm”
” You should be crammed with joy ”
I smile ” do as you gladden ” always dull, never think of anything, just like a doll and that’s why I prefer to spend most of my night with her, it’s peaceful and mostly quiet.
” I will take my leave now milord ”
” That’s fine ”
She move closer and hug me ” I should likely let the queen mother know about this” she smile, so eager to get the queen approval.
” You should”
She kissed my cheek before departing, the door closed shut and I look at the book on the bed, I could hear the sound of heart flashing, somewhat fast …..who ever this is, is probably scared to death.
Moving to my window, I throw the book out, exhaled then proceed to the bed before curving down, I stare at her face and she gasp, sweating ” a maid?” Watching her, she has this awkward smile ” come out ” mumbling, I withdraw back before standing to my feet.
” Forgive me milord ” she bow her head ” I was cleaning the room but your sudden arrival made me think quite oddly ”
” You speak quite good for a maid ” I watch her body tremble at that, she is concealing something ” are you a spy ?”
” Of course not milord ” no spy will say yes anyway.
I have always been someone who is good at reading people, find it really difficult to smile an actual smile, even if I do find you interest, a smile is hard to come freely for me.
All these things are just time wasting, fighting for power, being a ruler, matrimony and love. The love aspect is where Mona comes in, I do find her quite relaxing so am sure that’s what love mean.
I look at this maid face and furrow my brows, she has a nice skin, too nice for a maid ” arrange my bath ” I mumble and she lift her head with urgency, fright on her face ” if you’re here it means you’re my personal maid right?”
She quickly shake her head ” milord, you don’t have a personal maid ” this confirms it, she knows a lot about me, I move closer to her, she step back, heart still beating loudly.
” Then you will become one ” she huff at my words ” now set my bath ”
” as you wish milord ”
Jing stare at his bathroom, I have just one crisis here, how do one set a bath, where do they get water from? I move closer and notice that water is already there, someone must have set it ” rose petals, that’s what is missing ” shifting to the bucket close to the wall, side way, I frown. No rose, what if the king get mad?
Oh no, I have to hurry this and leave, have to leave fast. Bending down I frown ” do I poison Mona?” I mumble to myself ” do I want to do that?” The king didn’t seem so pleased with the child.
It’s the first time I got to talk with him and from what I could tell and the look in his eyes, he doesn’t care about anything, not even his unborn child.
the door to the bathroom open and I turn around to watch the king move into the bathroom room with only a towel, his long hair lose down.
I stare at those eyes, lips, nose, chest, his broad shoulders and his thighs. Nobody need tell me that my face is all red, is today a blessing to me? I get to see all these things?
He take off his towel to get in the water and out of intuition, I use my hands to cover my face, oh my god!!!!! Is this what the maids get to see everyday, lowering my hands a little I notice he is looking at me, with cold and suspicious eyes.
I quickly stand to my feet, I messed up, the maids obviously don’t shy away from his naked body ” what are you waiting for?” He furrow his brows ” scrub my back ”
” Yes milord ”
Moving quietly to his back, I begin to scrub gently, the whole place quiet, just the sound of the sponge on his body, I have never felt such awkwardness in my life before but am happy.
Am touching him, that something to look back and smile about but I need to know, I want to know why he doesn’t talk or visit his other queens ” milord”
” Silence” his immediate shut down of my question made me quite angry which result in me using my nails to scratch his back, the movement he used on me was concerning.
Before I knew what was happening, his hands are around my neck ” who are you, no maids keep long nails, always trimmed”
Coughing, I place my hands on his ” milord ”
” Who are you?” He lessen his hold a little and I look at him, he isn’t happy, anyone could know that, but his eyes, they still look cold and lifeless.
” A maid, the maid that work in your first queen quarters, queen Jing?”
” Did she ask you to come here?” He didn’t frown and I realized it, only his voice got deeper, he lack facial expression.
I shake milord ” no milord, I was in the kitchen and the maids were few so I got asked to serve in your quarters today”
” Hmmm” he withdraw ” you may leave ”
” Milord ” he look at me and I swallow ” why don’t….. don’t you ever visit queen Jing quarters ” he didn’t reply, just relax in the water.
” You may leave ” he mumble again but I didn’t move a bit from him ” never appear in my quarters again and tell queen Jing or whoever you work for ” he open his eyes ” they should stay clear of me ” I flinch from the intense aura radiating from him.
It’s so strong and scary, this chance to talk to him might be my last words to him, I need to utilize this opportunity.
I clear my throat” she is your wife!”
Silent fall for a long time, my heart shivering and his gaze still on me.
” Interesting” he broke the silence “a maid dare to speak back at me ” I tremble at that, his eyes are even colder now ” what retribution will suit her?” He is talking to himself, I watch him nod ” death?’ at that his gaze met mine again and I swear it felt like someone is squeezing my neck.
Maybe it’s because am scared but I can’t speak, his intense gaze is something, I might have over step.
Will he truly kill me?

CHAPTER THREE: COLD EYES 2
Jing withdraw a little, looking sideways, only one thought came to my head and it’s to run, revealing my identity won’t do me any good, the king might end up hating me and I don’t wish for that to happen, not to me.
I try changing positions but I can’t and he isn’t doing much either, just staring at me with those eyes without blinking, the guards are outside his chamber and that mean only one thing.
” Forgive me milord ” I force the words out of my lips, which made me realize I can speak but that didn’t reverse the expression on his face, he look less bothered and quiet.
Few seconds pass and the moment I hear sound of footsteps outside his chamber, he part his lips to speak, I beat him to it, yelling at the top of my voice ” rape!!!!!” His eyes widened, he look shocked and I could finally move ” rape, someone help!!!!”
” What are you doing” he try thrusting closer but I dash out of the water, out of his bathroom and chamber, I have no idea how many people heard my scream , that didn’t concern me or whatsoever, all I need to do was to escape that situation.
Arriving in my quarters, I quickly get rid of the dress and move to my bathing chamber ” milady, were you caught ” fang rush to my side, worry evident in her eyes and voice.
” Yes ” I mumble while she scrub my back ” luckily he has no idea it was me, he probably don’t even remember how his first wife look like ”
” Milady ” fang mumble after minutes pass, I nod and she continue ” rumor has it that queen Mona has conceived” oh yes, I totally forgot about that part, she will birth the crown prince ” what do you suppose we do?”
” Kill the baby ”
” Milady ”
I chuckle at her worried tone, of course, I have never been the kind and wishful person, if one was reading a novel, I will certainly be the second or third wife that will wish for death to the protagonist or heroin ” fang, she should never be given the chance to birth the next king ” turning around I asked her to move closer then whisper the plan I have ” make sure it’s well done ” she nod and I close my eyes.
” Queen mother ask for your presence earlier ” why didn’t fang tell me this sooner.
” Arrange my dress, I should meet her now ”
It only took thirty minutes for me to get ready, in a long red dress, styled my hair differently, lose down with some tiny flower at the side ” how do I look fang?”
” Beautiful milady ”
“Let’s move then”
Stepping out of my quarters, fang and twenty other maids walk behind me while fang hold the umbrella above my head to shade me from the harsh ray of sun.
Moving closer to the queen mother quarter, I notice queen Mona stepping out of there with a smile, her gaze met mine and her smile increase ” queen jing” she bow her head for few seconds before lifting them back up ” you must have heard the good news”
” Good news?” I asked, playing dumb ” am not good at gossip queen Mona ”
” Oh yes, you always curve in your quarters all day ” she said it with a smile ” am pregnant, will soon give birth to the royal blood ”
” That’s wonderful Mona ” moving closer, I smile ” I hope it remain alive ” smiling, I didn’t spare her any of my time, curse her…..she always have that smiling face on, that bastard.
Stepping into the queen chamber, I bow down ” your highness”
” Stop with the formality and sit my child” hearing the calmness in her voice, I lift my head and sit down ” have the news gotten to you ”
” Yes your highness” I clench my teeth ” forgive me for not being able to bear your grandchild”
” Nonsense Jing ” I stare at the queen mother, I still have no idea why she choose to show her kindness to me alone, Mona might have the king love but I have his mother approval.” My son barely goes to your chambers, am aware of all these ”
” Your highness”
” I called you here concerning Mona child ” her tone suddenly got serious ” I will advise you do nothing to it, he or she will be my grandchild after all.”
So mona finally got the queen mother on her, clenching my hands, I smile” your highness, am not capable of killing”
She chuckle then ” sure thing, have your tea”
” Yes your highness” we talk about few other things before I could successfully leave her quarters, all I feel is defeat, anger and suddenly fear. One thing could make me scared and that’s only because lord Muchen is moving towards my quarters for another direction.
On any normal day, I will be happy and hasten myself to catch up with him but I know why he is going there, to get hold of the maid that almost tarnish his reputation and God forbid he realize, am the maid.
” Milady ” one of my quarters maid rush towards my direction ” milady, the king is waiting for you, in your chambers ”
” Tell him of my absence ”
” I did that milady but he concluded on waiting upon you ”
” Shit ” it was the first time such vulgar words left my lips and yes, it’s definitely a time that demanded it. My gaze move to fang ” what do I do?”
” Milady ” fang smile ” a makeup could do some good ”
” A makeup to make me look hideous?”
” Yes milady ” she whisper back and I shake my head
” I don’t want the king to think me being hideous ” I completely forgot I was standing right outside my chamber until lord Muchen personal assistant move towards my direction
” Your highness, forgive my interruption but the king is awaiting your arrival ”
” Of course” breathing in and out, fang hand me my hankie and I use that to clean my face before stepping in, I stare at lord Muchen, his dark hair placed in a high ponytail.
” Milord ” mumbling, my heart won’t stop beating fast, he turn around and stare at me, they is no way of knowing if he realize it’s me or not, his expression and eyes remain same, cold and dead
” Your maid ” he finally spoke ” I wish to see all your maids line up ”
” Milord?”
” You were attentive”
His words made me snap ” you haven’t visited me for years and when you finally do, you’re asking about my maid?” Okay, I shouldn’t have said all that.
” Hmmm” he look at me ” forgive me milady ” he smile ” how have you been ” I clench my hands at that, it’s all fake, his eyes still have the not caring attitude.
” Milord ” I move closer to him ” please forgive my words but kindly leave my quarters ” I mumble with anger ” I see no use of you in my chamber ” the only reaction I got from him was the glimmer in his eyes.
” Hmmm”
What am I doing, I have waited for years for him to give me some of his time and now, and now am sending him away because of anger. Most nights I move to his camber to stare at him sleeping and now that I can change things, am pushing him away?
I watch him step out of my room and I sit on the bed, hating my actions.
Lord Muchen frown, after she scream the word rape and ran, many rumors have gone out and very fast, the king trying to rape a maid is not something that is funny.
After the council meeting, I decided to visit queen jing quarters, the same experience I had five years ago, came back to me….. rendering me quite speechless.
Stepping out of her chambers I stare at li-mu ” your highness, the queen has no right to speak to you in such manners ”
” Indeed ”
” You confuse me milord, why remain quiet ” looking at li-mu I remain expressionless, I hate expressing myself
” It’s simple ” I mumble ” she frightens me ”
