THEME: LISTEN TO ME SAI!

MUMBAI

REYANSH MANSION

Kyle POV

“Sir Kyle!Sir Kyle!”

I felt a soft tap on my th-gh and someone calling my name

“Get up sir Kyle or else you will be late for school”

I heard the familiar voice whisper into to my ears now.

School! School! I opened my eyes immediately then I saw Arjun staring at me. I looked at my bedside clock it read 7:25am beeping red on the small machine. My eyes w¡dened 7:25am! I jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom

“Ooh Arjun why didn’t you wake up earlier that this?!”

I said from the bathroom, picked up my toothbrush and brushed my teeth first

“You’ve never needed anyone to wake you up Sir”

(Oh yes that true! I get out of bed on time but today was different because I slept late last night. I was chatting with Lana so I slept around 3:30am this morning

“I was surprised when I didn’t see you at the breakfast table this morning”

“What about Reyansh?”

“He already left for school… I think you need to see him when you get to school cause he was very annoyed this morning when he didn’t see you at breakfast. I wonder what punishment he would give to you this time around for waking up late”

I stepped out of the bathroom after taking the quickest bathe on record

“What should I do? Or say to Mr Reyansh when I get to school?”

“You can tell him that you aren’t feeling too well…a headache would do”

“Good idea Arjun!”

“Well that if he won’t find out you are lying”

“He won’t”

(He passed my backpack to me)

“Thank you Arjun”

Then I disappeared to the Academy!

Arjun is a boy but older than I am. He is one of Mr Reyansh workers. Arjun was assigned to take care of me. I told Mr Reyansh I don’t need a nanny or babysitter but he insisted that I have an India Citizen to teach me some certain things about India and also show me around. It being one month since I moved to India, staying in Mr Reyansh Mansion. He is the Dean of Vidyalaya Khanapara Academy. He is a good man and he has been kind to me but one thing about him is that he is good at giving punishments. Anytime he is training me, Mr Reyansh was always too quick to scold me for making little mistakes and he also gives punishments according to Mistakes Or offences. Every students of Vidyalaya fears Mr Reyansh and some of my classmates gives me credit for training under him and living in the same house with him. I have been able to learn so many things about my powers and some times I do wish that Kira was also here to learn about her powers too. My first day in Mr Reyansh mansion wasn’t a nice day to me.

FLASHBACK

A car was sent to pick me up at the airport and I was welcomed by Mr Reyansh Workers. Arjun introduced himself as my nanny and I was forced to roll my eyes when he said that. Arjun carried my boxes to the room arranged for Me and he asked me to changed up before meeting the master. I showered and came out of the bathroom only to find Arjun holding a male Indian dress in his hands

“You are to wear this sir”

“Don’t worry I have enough clothes in my box”

‘I’m sorry sir,you can’t wear a western dress to meet master”

“Are you for real?”

“Yes..Mr Reyansh likes his students dressed in Native wears”

“What did you say is your name again?”

“Arjun”

“How many of Mr Reyansh student go about dressing in that?”

“A lot of them..but for now you are the only student leaving in mansion”

“Why?”

I collected the clothes from Arjun and eyed it disgustingly

“The other students couldn’t cope with him so they are at the school dormitory”

(I checked it out and hissed)

“This outfit is called Dhoti.. It is the national dress of India”

The Dhoti is a white strip of Cotton about for to six feet long

“There is no way I’m walking about in a dress like this”

“Well let me give you a piece of Advise Sir. It better you wear it now and act like you are comfortable in it for today or else Mr Reyansh will order you continue wearing it till the day you leave here”

I reluctantly collected the clothes from him

“Dhoti is a traditional attire,it is mainly worn by men in villages”

“Village? Not even in cities? Please just tell me how to put this in and let me meet the master once and for all”

“Wrap it around your wa-ist and you wear the white shirt on it. Mr Reyansh want you to wear a Pagri on your head too”

“What Pagri?”

“Indian turban”

I rolled my eyes. Arjun helped me after I failed on how to tie the Dhoti. I looked like a clown when I checked myself out in the mirror. Arjun let out a small laugh

“Arggggggg…I can’t believe I have to go through all this all in the name of training”

I grumbled

“It time to leave sir”

I followed Arjun out holding the wrapper in place so it won’t fall off. Arjun had given me a belt to hold it but it kept dropping. Some of Mr Reyansh workers stopped to laugh before passing by. I felt embarrassed when the maids stopped to stare and laughed at me…but they all drooled when I came in dressed in a western outfit and now they are making jest. Finally we got to Mr Reyansh study he ordered me to come in while he dismissed Arjun. Mr Reyansh was an old man in his 70’s with a gray hair on his head. His body was still physically fit and he doesn’t look like a man in his 70’s since he wasn’t using a walk stick

“Good morning sir”

I stretched my hands toward him. Mr Reyansh arched his brow – is it that he doesn’t understand English?

“Are you Kyle Hunter?”

Why is he asking when he already know that Kyle Hunter to coming to serve him

“Yes sir”

Mr Reyansh stood up from his chair,he picked up a small rod on his desk and came to me

“Aushsh!”

I yelped in pain when the rod hit my forehead..I never imagined that

“Didn’t they teach you in Fountain Falls on how to greet an Indian Master?

I rubbed my head…and who the heck is this man to hit me with a rod?

“On your Kneels!”

He barked out and I obeyed

“Hands up!”

I raised my hands above my head

“You should greet your elderly ones properly!”

How come a man in his 70’s still have the baritone voice to snarl at me Like this?

“Now what do you say?”

“I am sorry sir”

He frowned deeply.. Guess am wrong again but that what we say in America ‘I am sorry ‘

“Apologize in India”

“What?! I have no idea of how to say that”

“Get up”

I stood straight

“Your hand holding your two ears”

I followed his instruction

“Apologised now!”

“I am sorry….”

His frown deepened – what should I say? Oh yes!

“Forgive me master Reyansh”

I said to him slowly, thinking I was wrong again but a small smile formed on his l-ips before he walked back to him desk

“Do you like India?”

“Yes master”

“You like your new mode of dressing?”

“Yes master”

I replied sharply following Arjun Advice

“Take a seat”

“No I am fine master”

I refused his offer to sit cause Arjun said Mr Reyansh might have placed sharp pin on it. He doesn’t like his student sitting on the chair meant for his important guests. The two chairs belong to high Social level guests not students

“You are a very smart boy Kyle..a young child shouldn’t sit facing an elder..he should remain standing and gaze fixed to the ground while the elder speaks”

He paused

“Now that you as here let me show you around the Mansion myself”

He got out of his chair again and motioned to me to follow him. The rest of the day didn’t go well,Mr Reyansh told me the history of the academy which was owned by his Family. He spent hours telling me about the academy, his mansion and stories of his childhood. I was tired and hungry but I dared not say that to him all I did was listen to Mr Reyansh repeating the same stories of old time. I collapsed on my bed after taking dinner that night only for Arjun to come into my room around 5’o clock am to dress me up for a wedding ceremony

“Mr Reyansh insist that you go with him to a wedding ceremony”

I grumbled for minutes almost deciding to move back to America but Mr Reyansh walked in causing me to jump out of bed quickly

“You are still sleeping?”

“No sir..I was only saying my morning prayers when Arjun came in”

I lied to him

“My friend child is getting married today…his second child. I want you to come with me so I can introduce you to him. He is a Master too”

“Okay Master”

“No just call me Mr Reyansh since you passed your test yesterday”

“Yesterday….”

“Yes you never complained to me while I was telling you my stories”

“Oh! I enjoyed it..every bit of it”

“Don’t worry I will tell you more on our way to the ceremony”

“Okay Mr Reyansh”

“Take this Achkan”

He gave me the clothes in his hands

“It used to be for my son SAI but am sure it going to fit you”

I noticed the sadness in his tone

“We will leave by 7:00”

7:00? And I am awake by 5:00! So annoying

“Thank you Mr Reyansh”

He tapped my shoulder before walking out

“Hey Arjun where is Sai?”

“He is dead”

“Dead?”

“Yes Mr Reyansh lost his son ten years ago in a car crash. Sai died when he was 17 years old…and his death actually changed his father’s attitude towards children. Mr Reyansh was never a strict man but he was only a well principled man who believed in caring for a child and giving that child whatever he/she needs. Sai took his father care for granted,he was a disobedient boy and never listened to his father’s instructions. He started going out with bad friends which his dad warned him to stay away from them but Sai felt his dad was trying to deprive him of his freedom. At times Mr Reyansh ordered his workers to lock up the doors and Sai room too but he was always sneaking out through the window. On February 26, like I was told..that day was on Friday, Sai prepared for club but Mr Reyansh told him about the Vision he had that morning – Mr Reyansh dreamt that Sai was involved in an accident. Sai refused to listen,he fought with his dad that night when Mr Reyansh seized his fast cards and phones. Mr Reyansh locked all the doors with his powers but that didn’t stop Sai from leaving home that night”

“How did he leave?”

“I was told that he disappeared using his powers while Mr Reyansh was in the toilet – Mr Reyansh was mad at his workers that night when he met an empty chair. He went in search of Sai in some clubs but he couldn’t find him. He gave up on the search and prayed to Buddha to protect his son but it seems Sai was destined to die that night because of disobedience. The first call Mr Reyansh received the next morning was the announcement of Sai Death”

“Which club did he go to?”

“He didn’t go clubbing close by but in the next town. Sai and three of his friends were involved in the car accident on their way back home drunk. The rest of his friends had fatal injuries and they survived but only Sai died in the crash. Mr Reyansh changed his ways in training a child because he felt Sai death was his fault. He had over pampered SAI because he was his only child”

“What about Sai mom?”

“She died when she wanted to give birth to Sai”

That was the story Arjun told me that morning about Mr Reyansh only child. If only Sai had listened to his father that morning then he would have escaped death that night. Sai would have been alive now”

FLASHFORWARD

I appeared in the crowded school hallway and made my way to Mr Reyansh office! I just hope I get a fair punishment this time around!
