It was a calm and yet-to-mature night,
Steve sat quietly on a couch in the parlor. His eyes were seemly glued to the TV, Even Though an interesting program was being shown, his mind was not even there at all.
He was lost in deep thoughts which drove him to a faraway land where he could not even hear anything that happened in the parlor.
Gentle and repetitive footsteps were being heard till Joy climbed down the stairs and found her husband in the parlor, she’d waited for him for so long to join her in the bed but he wasn’t showing up so she actually came down to check on him.
Even though the room slippers she was wearing made some distractive and noticeable sounds; Steve still didn’t react like he knew someone entered the parlor. After observing him for minutes, Joy concluded that he was just carried away by the live news broadcast but no, it was so,
She walked closer to the Television stand and made sure she completely obstructed his view of the TV.
She expected him to notice her presence but he never did. That was when she finally believed that something was wrong.
She slowly advanced closer to him and tapped him for getting to 5 times before he finally responded like someone that had been in deep slumber.

“Oh, my love, you’re here .” He said and held her wrist drawing her closer to sit beside him. He wrapped his arm across her neck and drew her closer to rest her head on his chest.
He enjoyed her warm breath while she also enjoyed his calm and gentle heartbeats.

“What’s the matter?.” Joy’s low and calm voice sounded.

“Don’t worry dear, I’m Ok. “Steve assured in a cold voice.

“My love!” Joy called and adjusted to gaze into his blue eyes.
“I have lived with you for years and with that, I can assure you that I have been able to learn certain things about you: I Know when you’re ok and when you’re not. Right now, I’m 100% sure that you’re not ok, please, let me bear some of the worries. Y’know there’s a saying that “A pot of hot soup in the hands of two is best safer than the one in just a single hand.

“hmmm, ‘Steve heaved and his cool refreshing breath fluttered joy’s vellus hair causing a gentle sænsati0n to move around her body.
“It’s your Ex,” Steve muttered.

With the look on joy’s face, one would vividly see she didn’t quite get what her husband said.

“My Ex! Who is my Ex?” She inquired obliviously.

“I’m referring to Chris, “Steve Clarified.

” Chris? What about him? “Joy asked still with a calm voice and raised brows.

“Y’know he showed up some days back.”

“Yes, and you said he came for his twins, isn’t it?

“Yes that’s it but…..

“That shouldn’t bother you, my love, just like I said, he’s not getting them, never, not when I’m still alive, The twins belong to us, we labored for them.

“You should say yours and not mine.” Steve corrected in a sad tone.

“It’s a popular saying that “whatever belongs to the husband is likewise the wife’s and whatever belongs to the Wife is also the husband’s” So my love, the only thing that will deny you the ownersh¡p of those kids Is if you say they aren’t yours.

“Thank you, my love,” Steve uttered and smiled broadly.

“You don’t need to thank me. “Joy corrected and returned the smile.

They were smiling and gazing into each other’s eyes when Steve suddenly stopped and his said mood returned.

“There’s a problem,” he announced with a worried look.

“What’s that? “Joy asked worriedly.

“He has taken the case to the court and also requested 50 million Naira damages”.

“Hehe, you’re joking, right? “Joy asked still in an unrealistic state.

“I mean it, he did it, here’s the document.” Steve showed Joy the document and her face changed immediately after going through it.
She disengaged from Steve’s chest and stood vigorously,
“No! that’s not happening, if he sues you, we will also sue him for 1 billion Naira for molestation and child abuse, in fact, that’s what we’re going to do, so after all that he made me go through, he still summed the courage to near my territory again. Steve after seeing how upset his wife was got up and stood in front of her, gave her a soft peck on the forehead, drew her closer, and put her in a warm embrace.
Joy sobbed silently on his shoulder.

they quickly disengaged from each other and feigned a smile pretending as if nothing was wrong.

“What’s going on my children?” Mrs. Mary asked with a concerned look.

“Erhm, mama, actually…” Steve stammered cause he didn’t want Mrs. Mary to know what was going on.

“Mom, can you believe that the so-called governor has taken us to court demanding the kids and also 50 million Naira damages.”Joy uttered sharply.

Mrs. Mary wasn’t getting what Joy was talking about,

“Who is governor? “She asked.

” Mum, it’s the same guy that made me go through hell on this planet earth, it’s the same guy that took away my pride, (joy’s eyes were turning gloomy and ready to pour as she spoke) mum, it’s the same guy that tampered with my future… ”

“Wait, are you talking about the man that took advantage of you? “Mrs. Mary asked,

” Yes mom, “Joy replied with a teary tone,

” What! So after everything he did, he still has the mind to drag you to court,

“Yes mama, “Joy retorted as tears gushed down her eyes.

“He must be a very heartl*ss man,” Mrs. Mary said and sighed disdainfully.
“Don’t worry my children, our God is a God of justice, he’ll surely see us through” Mrs. Mary assured.
