Chapter Seventy Eight: UNEXPECTED DEATH
Betty hold her head as she sit up gently, it felt like someone is pounding on her head really hard, what even happened to me, I remember talking to Verdun about me meeting Lucifer and him forbidding me from going ” what is even wrong with him, I just wanted to help him” grunting I look around then remain shocked because this room is new and a place I have never been.
Where am I?
Standing to my feet I look around the whole place, a bed placed at the side and close to the window, a small and open window which look a little weird, my gaze move to my left. An cupboard placed there, it look really old if you ask me.
Moving towards the cupboard, I open it gently to see a pair of trouser and shirt then food, enough food to hold you for a week and if I know any better I will say Verdun lock me up in here, preventing me from meeting Lucifer which is absurd, he should know am doing this for him, this is the only solution to everything.
Taking off my dress I change to the black trouser and shirt I found in there ” am still getting out of here, he can’t stop me ” tying my hair in a high ponytail I run down the long stairs only to discover that the doors are heavily locked but then the window I saw earlier gave me hope.
Turning around I run back to the room then the window, looking down I discover am in a really high tower, falling from here will guarantee my death which means I need something long and strong.
Averting my gaze to the blanket on the bed I smile ” got it ” I rush to the cupboard, pick other clothes and blanket tying the end to each other but when I try throwing it out of the window it stop, like some barrier of some sort is in there.
I proceeded in tying the clothes round my waist then the bed before moving to the window, extending my hand it stop mid way, like am touching a soft rubber that won’t let me through ” magic? How ridiculous, he really plan on locking me in here ”
How dare he!
I am not his property for him to do as he wish with me, I have a saying in my life too ” curse him!!” But he forgot one thing, magic doesn’t work on me, I just need to concentrate then I will be out of this place.
Moving back I close my eyes, inhale then exhale before running, I run as fast as I could then jump through the window, my first thought was that I was going to die because am still falling ” oh my God! ” I scream the moment I open my eyes and thankfully I stop before smashing my head on the ground, my face is just an inch from it ” oh my!”
Untying myself I hold my head and try standing still to stop the dizziness that is over taking my body, the sun is bright which means this is a new day, I must have slept through out last night, Madeline should be here now.
Taking a step after another I move towards the mansion” have you seen a woman called Madeline today?” Asking a maid she bow her head immediately before answering.
” yes Luna, she is in the dining hall with the alpha ”
” okay ”
Without washing more time I move towards the dining hall then stop to peep and listen to their discussion, Verdun look really angry and pissed while Madeline fold her hands ” what the hell Madeline, do you wish for my mate death ”
” I do not understand alpha, she wishes to meet Lucifer, how is that so wrong ” Madeline growl ” besides you got to meet with him so why can’t she ”
” have you gone nuts ” he step closer while she retreat back ” meeting Lucifer means meeting her death, yes I have meet Lucifer before and trust me I am regretting that now….I do not want that for her ”
” what exactly are you protecting her from Verdun ” Madeline frown ” she said something about helping you to live, to ask Lucifer for help, to save you”
” no body can save me!” Verdun growl ” this is my fate and I don’t need you meddling in what is not your business, Lucifer does nothing for free, helping Betty will mean he has to take something in return….can’t you see that if she meet Lucifer I will lose her, I prefer to be the one going not her so I need you to stay away from Betty , far away from my issues ”
” this is not how you talk to an old friend Verdun ”
Verdun furrow his brows ” I have never regarded you as a friend Madeline, you seem to be a pest I want to get rid of and now ”
” do not ask for me Verdun ”
” noted ”
Madeline vanish out of sight and I watch Verdun Fall on one of the chairs, looking weak and coughing blood, his blue eyes seem to be losing life ” time is running out for you half breed ” a voice echo in the room, an unknown voice which made Verdun frown.
” Lucifer”
My first instinct is to run in and hold Verdun but that won’t help issues, I need to meet with Lucifer and fast, I already know Lucifer stays in the north empire. Turning around I move to the ranch to take a horse which I successfully did and out of the mansion ” you got this ”
Moving forward I frown when I stare at Brandon tying his horse at a tree and moving into the forest, what is he doing there, why will he go into a forest of all places, tying my horse I slowly follow him, making sure the noise emitting from my footsteps are really low, he look so confident walking, like he knows this place.
” well well well, you are still alive Elinor ” hiding behind a huge rock I stare at him, Elinor tied to a tree, her hair cut short, injures all over her body, how could he do this to Elinor.
” Betty will find out everything, she will know you are not who you say you are ”
” Betty, Betty, Betty ” Brandon chuckle ” she is so naive, she believe everything I tell her and very soon Verdun will be dead and you know why?? Let me tell you ” he cup her face with one hand tight ” she will stab him her self ”
” impossible, you won’t get away with this ”
” who will stop me, you??” I watch Brandon transform, his hair white, eyes green and he look even more huge ” before killing you, you should know my name, its zarin….zarin the enchanter ” he pull out his sword and at that moment I stand to my feet to stop him but he is really fast, so fast I couldn’t detect his movement.
He cut her head off, Elinor blood splashing all over my body, I remain shocked, couldn’t move nor could I think properly, only one thought that ring in my head at that moment was something surprising and unexpected.

” look who we got here, isn’t it the naive Betty ” zarin chuckle, his eyes glitter with mischief ” I was hoping to use you and let you be but now my form is ruined, you know the truth now so I have to move to plan B”
” plan B?” Looking at him my anger seem to be boiling ” you really think I will let you leave here alive? Do you really think you will live after killing my sister”
” that’s true” zarin place his hand under his chin like he is thinking of something, he said he was an enchanter which means he is a warlock, a wizard and that’s the only way he could change his form to something else but if he isn’t my brother where is Brandon, is he dead? ” well master Knox will be happy to see you darling ”
” Knox?” I mumble shocked
” do you really believe he was dead?” Zarin chuckle moving forward ” he did send me to get you, to give you the cursed dagger and that reminds me….where is it ”
” that doesn’t concern you anymore ” clenching my hands I stare at him, he doesn’t look scared, at least magic doesn’t work on me but he looks really strong, he didn’t use magic on Elinor but a sword instead.
it means he has more under his sleeves ” okay, we have talked enough, let’s end this right now ” normally I will lounge at him but I can’t do that now, I don’t know his powers, what if I run towards him then get stab at the chest, why is he just standing there and smiling ” what are you waiting for Betty, ladies first ”
” what nonsense, if you want this to end come at me ”
” okay ” within a blink of an eye he vanish from sight and what is happen next take me to the ground, he use the back of his sword to hit me from behind ” you are just a dream walker Betty” he bend to my level while I growl in pain ” yes your inner energy increase, magic doesn’t work on you, you are fast but not as fast as a warlock…. dream walkers are only stronger than humans “holding my hair he pull me closer ” I will not kill you, not because I like you but because Knox is interested in a thing like you ”
” where is my brother ”
” oh yes, I had to kill him in order to use his body ” a smile form in his lips ” you have to forgive me Betty, Brandon was also naive”
Shoving him away I fight the tears dropping from my eyes, if only I had that cursed dagger, looking at my right I was shocked to see it next to me, how did the dagger get here? ” you little pest” zarin growl, I refuse thinking further as I grab the dagger, hiding it then standing up, if I can stab his chest I will win.
I didn’t give him the chance to breath anymore, I run towards him, he pull out his sword and it started, he was fast but thankfully am really good at dodging, turning around I use my feet to hit his hand, the sword falling far from him.
” impressive Betty, what are you hiding behind you ”
” come and see it for yourself ”
He swiftly move towards my direction, his fist even faster than the sword, I barely Dodge some while my face receive the rest, the last punch land on my stomach throwing me far away as my head hit the tree ” I have to say you tried earlier Betty but you can’t defeat me” coughing blood I could feel my face swollen from all the beating I have receive.
He bend to my level and lean close, his face one inch from mine ” Verdun will be so sad for your death ”
” not if I have a say in it ” I swiftly stab him right on his chest, I watch that smiling face turn to a frown ” see you in hell ”
” the curser dagger? ” he look down to my hand then my face ” I will not go alone” his both hand move to my neck, adding pressures making it hard for me to breath, his legs to his waist already fading away, into ashes ” I curse you!” Was his last word before dying, his body already ash on the ground, the dagger fall down on my lap, shining bright, no single sigh of blood on it.
Is Brandon really dead?
Elinor is gone?
Am all alone now, Verdun is also leaving soon, I have no one else to call my own? Why is this all happening, why did Elinor leave me, is all my fault, if only I had kill zarin when he was talking to Elinor, if only I had been faster but then if only will not bring her back.
The more I cry the more the injury on my face hurt but I can’t stay here forever, I have to meet with Lucifer, have to beg him, have to stop him from taking the last person I have away from me.
Gathering energy I stand to my feet while my right hand rest on the tree and my left holding the dagger, slowly I start to walk out of the forest, my whole body shaking but I didn’t stop, I couldn’t I have to go to the north empire
Missing a step I fall to the ground ” I have to meet…” crawling on the ground I could feel myself losing my consciousness ” have to meet Lucifer ” that was my last sentence before passing out in a forest
Verdun remain still, Lucifer voice echo in the room but that was it, not his presence but just his voice, of course I know that he won’t come to see me, how can I wish for such a silly thing, he will remind me that am dying slowly and very soon he will smile with pleasure due to my death ” I have news alpha” looking at the door I stare at Nolan
” what is it ”
” I found Brandon dead body ” Nolan rush his words ” I know it seems absurd but I went back to that old lady house in jalir and with few investigation I discovered that she was a witch, a witch that need a dream walker life force so she made a deal with Knox and they captured Brandon, tie him up and drain all his life force leaving his skeleton there ”
” then who was the man who attend Betty marriage ceremony ”
” zarin alpha, loyal assistant to Knox ”
” so Knox is alive ” frowning I run my hands through my hair, of course I didn’t kill him, I only killed deccan
” I have terrible news alpha” Edward run inside the dining hall ” Elinor is dead, her body was found in the forest, someone must have killed her”
” did you see any other thing”
” aside her body and ashes no other thing alpha ” Edward mumble and am left to think, what will the ash be doing in the forest ” was they any sigh of fire?” Edward shake his head, only the cursed dagger could do that and I set the dagger to always be with Betty with a single ritual performed last night.
This only means, Betty is out of the…..not bothering to finish with my thought I run out of the mansion towards the tower, I stare at clothes tied together from the window, the magic didn’t work on her ” Edward, you didn’t see Betty over there ”
” no alpha, they were trace of blood but when I try following, it ended in a snow area”
” snow in this time, how absurd is that” clenching my hand I frown ” Betty is not in good hands, arrange my horse, we are going for hunting ”
