💘 chapter 20 – 21💘

“Don’t act like you know the full story or her reason for what she did,” Tristan said.

“The story about you and your family using her for some kind of experiment, I know the story.”

“We just want her back,” I said hoping there was a nice person underneath the cold-blooded person staring at me.

“She is happy with us and we love her like our blood. You can’t just show up one day and take her away, it doesn’t work that way!”

“Will you just listen to what I have to say?”

“I don’t wanna know your reasons, you can tell the judges your reason for abandoning your daughter when we meet in court.”

“You don’t have to do this, Ciara.”

“We both know the truth little sister, Maddie is better off without you two. She deserves a safe home, you will never be a good mother, Chloe. Once the judges know who you truly are and psychopath you’re dating, you’re never gonna see her again.”

She threatened.

I balled my hands into a fist and refrained from hitting her.

“I feel so bad for the other twin, if you change your mind and decide to give him up for adoption too, you know where to find me.”

She said and smiled.

“Let’s go, honey,” she took Darren’s hand and walked away.

“Ciara!” I called but she ignored me.

“Well, this is not good,” I heard Andrew say.

“What?” I asked turning around for an explanation.

“If your sister takes this to court, you might never see your daughter again. There are a lot of things they can use against both of you in court to prove you can’t be a responsible parent and…you’ve both separated.”

He explained.

“They have the upper hand here, try and speak to your sister before it’s too late.”

He said to me.

“I will try and see if there is anything I can do to help, have a nice day.”

“Thanks, Andrew,” they shook hands before he left with his secretary.

“Just when I thought things were getting better,” Tristan muttered.

“I’m calling my parents, they’re my last hope right now.”

I said and reached for my phone.

I explained the whole situation to my parents throughout the ride home. We all agreed to meet in Seattle where Ciara stayed so we could all convince her to drop the case.

My feet were throbbing as we entered the hotel suite. I heard Tristan gr0×n in pain behind me, I turned around and found him clutching the place he was shot.

“Did your stitches open?”

I panicked.

“No, I have not taken my meds. I will be fine.”

He tried to walk past me but I stopped him.

“Let me have a look,” he was reluctant at first.

He took off his shirt and sat on the leather couch. I checked his stitches as I sat next to him.

“Why do you think she hates you?”

He asked me in the silence.

“I really don’t know, she was mad at me at first for ruining her relationsh¡p with Sofia’s cousin.”

“Maybe she’s not over her feelings for him.”

“She’s married, Tristan.”

I said and tried not to laugh.

“I never imagined you cutting your hair,” he whispered touching my hair like he was trying to figure out why I did it.

“Less stress,” I shrugged.

He smiled at me staring at my face like he had a lot on his mind to say to me.

“I need to take my meds,” he said and stood up.

“Okay, I will be in the bathroom.”

●○°•

We agreed to meet my parents at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport. We drove to Ciara’s house in separate cars. There was a weird feeling in my guts as the car in front of us pulled into the driveway.

The car stopped in front of a white Duplex. Kayla was here, she was ten feet away. Tristan and I exchanged a nervous smile.

“Everything is gonna be fine,” my mom assured me with a soft smile.

My Dad pressed the doorbell when we reached the fancy porch. We heard footsteps before the door opened.

“Mom? Dad?” Ciara called looking surprised. Anger replaced the look on her face when she saw Tristan and me.

“Great, you are here because of her. Why am I not surprised?”

“Ciara, please,” my mom said stepping forward.

“Why are you doing this?” my mom asked.

“It is always about Chloe, isn’t it? My happiness doesn’t matter, it never did. I have a great husband and a beautiful daughter and she wanna take that all away again and as usual, you all support her, the golden child.”

I stepped closer before my mom could say anything.

“The golden child?” I scoffed and laughed.

“You were always the golden child, Ciara, the perfect daughter mom and Dad always wanted not me.”

“Well, not to mom and Dad. You were always their precious daughter; after they kicked you out, it was like I was invisible. Mom didn’t even know when I left for Seattle. This isn’t just about you being their favourite, it’s also about you thinking you can come back for a child you gave up for adoption. I just wanna be happy and Maddie is part of that happiness. You can’t just take away, it’s not fair.”

She said with tears brimming at the edge of her eyes.

“I’m so sorry, I really wished things were different,” I said feeling the tears in my eyes.

“Look, I know how you feel. Your sister made the decision without letting the father of her child know and now he wants his daughter back, she also wants her back. Please, sweetheart, don’t take her away from her parents and her twin.”

My Dad said calmly.

“This is all my fault, I made you girls like this,” my mom cried.

“Don’t cry mom,” Ciara said and stepped out of the house. She wrapped her hands around her and hugged her, my Dad joined in the hug. They all turned to look at me when I didn’t make any move.

“Come here,” she said to me. I smiled and joined in the hug.

“I’m sorry,” she apologized.

“I won’t take the case to court,” she told me when we pulled away.

Darren appeared in the doorway holding a little girl, my little girl. Her blonde hair was covered with a small headwarmer, tears w-t her chubby cheeks and her blue eyes stared at us.

Tristan was already in front of me in a flash, he tried to walk past Ciara to Darren.

“Hold up, she is still my daughter,” Ciara stopped him.

Tristan’s patience was hanging on a thin thread, he just stared at Kayla but could not reach out to her.

“Can I just hold her?” he begged.

“She is all yours, man,” Darren said stepping out of the house and giving her to Tristan.

“Hey, Princess.”

Tristan whispered softly smiling at her, he placed a k×ss on her head and held her close to him. We all watched smiling, I stepped closer.

“Hey, Kay,” I whispered.

“Don’t worry, I got you.”

She placed her head on his chest.

“Hey, we have to let her go. Your sister didn’t give her away because she didn’t want her but because she couldn’t take care of her and her twin. It hurts too, we will get another one, triplets,” Darren said to her, she hugged him and cried.

“She is your niece, you can see her anytime you want,” I said.

“We’ll refund every money you paid for the Adoption,” Tristan told them.

“It’s okay, we don’t need the money. She is my niece.”

“Thanks so much, I know how hærd it must be for you right now,” Tristan said.

“So, do we have like some paperwork to do to terminate the adoption?”

“I will ask my lawyer.”

“I still hate you, Tristan, for everything.”

Ciara told him.

“I know, I deserve that,” he said in return.

“Can we at least say goodbye?”

“Sure,” Tristan and I replied.

They both walked to where Tristan was standing.

“Hey, Maddie.”

She whispered with a smile.

“We’ll miss you.”

Darren said touching her cheek.

“Your brother will be so glad to see you,” Ciara said.

“Take care,” they each gave her a k×ss and stepped back.

“I will be in the car,” Tristan told them and walked to the car.

I turned to look at my sister, Darren was cute in a weird way but he looked like a nice person. His caramel skin went with his dark curls and brown eyes.

“You’re going to have your own baby someday, Ciara.”

“I can’t, I can’t have kids.”

She told me and cried more, I didn’t know what to say to her. It broke my heart to hear that, I moved closer and hugged.

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

I whispered not sure about asking her what happened.

“I never meant to hurt you in any way. I’m so happy for you just know that and if he makes you happy then I’m happy. Please take good care of her.”

“I will,” I said.

She smiled at me when we pulled away, she looked at the car where Tristan was holding Kayla.

“She looks so much like him.”

She said with a light smile.

“Yeah, ” I nodded.

“I can’t wait to meet the other twin. Wait here,” She went back into the house, I turned to Darren.

“So, when did you guys get married?”

“Last year.”

Ciara returned before I could ask him any more questions.

“Here, you might need it on your way.”

I collected the hello kitty bag filled with diapers, baby wipes, a small blanket and warm milk.

“Wow, thanks.”

“I will be coming to Beverly Hills next month.”

“I will be waiting.”

We hugged one last time before I left. My parents decided to stay and leave the next day.

I waved at Darren before entering the car.

“I guess you’re both cool now.”

“Yeah,” I answered smiling at my sister as we drove off. It felt good to clear the steam between us.

I faced him with a wide smile, Kayla was already asleep.

“That was quick.”

I said car–sing her cheek with my thumb.

“She was so tiny the last time I saw her.”

I said with tears forcing their way to my eyes.

“I promise to be the best mom from now on.”

I whispered and placed a k×ss on her head.

Kayla slept the whole flight, she woke up during the ride home.

“Hi, Kay.”

I said to her with a soft smile but she looked away and snuggled closer to Tristan’s chest.

“She hates me,” I frowned.

“Relax, she is still trying to get used to the new faces around her.”

Tristan said giving my hand a soft squeeze.

I s×¢ked in a breath as we walked up the steps to the Sanchesters’ Mansion. I didn’t how everyone was going to react about this. I pressed the doorbell and a maid opened it in a second. She gave us a broad smile as she welcomed us in.

“Surprise!!!” We heard immediately we entered the living room.

“Welcome home, Kayla!!!” Tristan’s family s¢ræmed looking so excited. Adrian and Vina were holding balloons with different images of Disney princesses. I looked around at the other decorations in the room.

“How did…”

“Your parents called and told us everything, we are so excited to see her,” Mrs. Sanchester said walking to where we were.

“She is so adorable,” Nana said. Kayla clung to Tristan as all eyes were on her.

“New faces, huh?” Tristan whispered to her.

Nora walked in with Kayden who wriggled out of her arm immediately he saw us.

“Mommy!”

He s¢ræmed running toward us, he ran toward me when he saw Tristan holding Kayla.

“Hey, sweety.”

I k×ssed his cheek when I picked him from the ground, he giggled and put his small arms around my neck.

“She needs a little time to adjust to the new faces and it has been a long flight.”

He explained to everyone.

I turned to look at Kayden and found him staring at his sister, I smiled when I noticed she was staring back at him.

“Say hi to your sister.”

“Hi,” he said and giggled and for the first time since we got Kayla back, I saw her smile.

It’s been a week since we returned, Kayla was still getting familiar with everyone except Kayden and Tristan, she was very noisy around them especially Kayden.

They bonded so quickly, I spent much time with her when I had the chance and so far it’s been good.

It was Wednesday night and almost 10 pm, I finished preparing the twins’ milk in case they wake up in the middle of the night crying.

I yawned as I climbed the stairs. I could hear the twins noise from Tristan’s room, I thought they were already sleeping.

I opened the door and found them jumping on the bed and s¢ræming, Tristan was asleep next to them. I guessed he slept off, I walked in and closed the door behind me.

“Okay, it’s time for bed.”

I tried to grab Kayden’s arm but he ran to the other side giggling, Kayla followed him giggling louder.

They ran to Tristan when they saw me coming their way, they were really enjoying this. Tristan woke up when Kayden fell on him.

“Come here, you muffins.”

Tristan grabbed both of them.

“Let’s go to sleep, Mommy is tired.”

He pulled them closer, they stayed quiet and laid next to him.

I sighed in relief and turned to leave.

“Cassie, ” Tristan called stopping me.

“Yes?”

“Come here.”

He tapped the space next to the twins.

I climbed the bed and laid next to the twins. They were still awake but stayed silent.

Tristan placed a k×ss on their head and a quick k×ss on my l-ips.

“Goodnight, I love you all,” he said and turned off the lights.

We went to see Morris the next day, he was getting better. I really missed him and I couldn’t wait for him to recover fully.

I went to the police station to ask about Mrs. Porter if anyone came to claim the body but I was surprised no one came.

I knew she didn’t have anyone. I went straight to speak to Tristan about giving Mrs. Porter a nice funeral.

Saturday morning, I invited a few people from the neighbourhood and my family and we gathered for Mrs. Porter’s funeral.

I gave a speech directly from the heart and I couldn’t hold the tears back when I finished my speech.

The following week went smoothly, I felt like my life was complete, like I was on the right track. Spending time with the kids and Tristan had healed all my wounds from the past and to be honest, it felt like my new beginning.

Kayla was comfortable around everyone now but she always wanted to be with Kayden. I cried the first time she called me, mom.

Tristan’s been going out a lot, he told me he was checking for a new house.

Tuesday evening he picked me up and took me with him to check the new house, he wanted to know what I thought of the house before he could buy it.

It was a few minute’s drive from the Sanchesters’ Mansion.

“We’re here.”

He parked in front of a three-story glasshouse.

“Wow, it’s…big”

I said gaping at the size.

“You’ll love the in,side, let’s go.”

I kept looking around as I walked to the door, I opened it and stepped in.

“Oh my God!”

I gasped at the sight of my friends and families, they all smiled at me.

I read the letters they were all holding SAY YES. The roses and balloons and the decorations were lovely.

I turned around to look at Tristan, he was on one knee and holding out a diamond ring.

“Will you marry me, Cassandra?”
